I had one job, changing or securing some lines, cost $400. That seemed quite excessive to me for some cheap lines, but they did it and it fixed the problem. They also helped diagnose another issue that was a problem caused by another mechanic. So I don't have enough experience with them to say how good their service is, but I can say they are very expensive. I called to ask about putting in a new drive belt. I told the guy my exact vehicle and he said $100-500. That's a huge difference. Imagine you go to the store and on a box of Wheaties it says $1-10. And you don't know the cost until after you ring up your items! The belt itself is $16. So they would charge $484 in labor....to put on a drive belt. Even if it took 5 hours, which would be insanity for a trained mechanic, that's nearly $100/hour!!! Imagine if it's just 2 hours, $250/hour??? Are these guys mechanics or heart surgeons?? There are videos on YouTube on how to replace a belt. And I'm going to do it myself. $100 is ridiculous as it is...but you know if you bring the car in, they will charge you $500 because they warned you! And by bringing it in, you're admitting you're a sucker that will pay $500....to do one of the easiest jobs on a vehicle. Now I know the $400 I paid before was outrageous. Also, I asked them to price out a fix on my transmission and some kid told me $4000. The car isn't even worth $4000. I called around and the average I was finding was $1000. The kid, had to be like early 20s, mocked me for paying so little. It made me wonder who trained him? He sounded like a con man. Later I talked to an older representative at Interstate who said "$4000?? Naw that's not right, that's too much". So does the front desk have scammers trying to shake down customers? I'm glad I know enough about autos that I can do things myself and can smell a shake down when it's happening. I feel bad for people that rely on mechanics at their word and to be honest. I'd give them 1 star for basic theft. But it's their prerogative to charge what they want and if people are pathetic enough to pay it, why shouldn't they charge it?? EDIT in Response to Bill N: I'll admit before this review I had little experience with Interstate. I had one service done and it was done to my satisfaction. My biggest issue was cost. Then I tried to get quotes for other jobs and felt like I was being shaken down, that the prices were too high. At that point I had no idea the inter-workings of Interstate or anything about management. Thanks to you, now I do. I've worked customer service for 10+ years. Even as an engineer I was doing customer service. I can tell by your responses, you have no idea how to do customer service. You take everything personal, you use personal attacks, you're never wrong, you never apologize and you never LISTEN. You are the head of this establishment. Now I know if I had a problem with your business, I'd eventually have to deal with you. And based on your personal attacks and juvenile responses, I'd never want that to happen. I'd never want to have to deal with you. I took my vehicle here and they first diagnosed my vehicle problems as caused by exposed wires under the floor trim. The solution they offered would get my vehicle running after taping the wires. Price for this service= $500 Wires they want to fix=speaker audio wires.... Diagnosis #2 Loose wires under my vehicle transmission. Suggested solution, tape the wires and reinstall plastic wire harness bracket. Cost=$1500 with no guarantees! When I tell the shop that I had lost confidence in their ability to properly and accurately diagnose my problems, they immediately treat me like scum and demand $400 in "cash only" to retrieve my vehicle. Although I initially went to Interstate because my lease company referred me to go there, I was thoroughly impressed. I called them up, as I was on my way to their establishment hoping they could get me in for an oil change and tire rotation. They didn't disappoint me. The shop is extremely clean, inviting place with comfortable seating and knowledgable, polite staff. During my stay, I took advantage of their free wi-fi to get a little work completed. They feature free water and sodas for customers. Owner Bill Nalu and his son, Nick are incredibly gracious service providers who are willing to explain any questions which you may have. Bill the owner is so unprofessional and clearly cannot control his emotions as a GROWN MAN !!! I witnessed through the phone on FaceTime how he yelled at my boyfriend and refused to drive and look at OUR vehicle after he did the wheel alignment and replaced the left control arm. My bf noticed the wheel was going all the way to left as soon as he drove off , returned to tell them it was worse then when we brought it and the traction light was ( which is was driving normal n no lights were on), and bill was going to drive it then decided not to just because my bf wasn't happy with the work . Then refused to even look at the vehicle , refused service and proceeded to call the police. Bill do better and please don't reply to comment and please find a customer service program for your business and a new mechanic license because why would you do a partial wheel alignment , which was not authorized by us and leave our vehicle in that condition. I moved to Michigan about two years ago and as anyone who has ever moved to another state knows, some of the most daunting tasks can be finding businesses you trust. Shortly after I moved out here my Mazda needed to go in for a complete engine overhaul-not exactly the thing you want to hear right after moving, let alone at any point. The people at Interstate were absolutely INCREDIBLE. Although car servicing can be a really horrible experience, they were completely competent, friendly, and caring throughout the whole process. I continued to take my car into them for the next year. They were always lovely throughout the whole process and provided in depth service reports for every visit to the shop. In a business where transparency is so rare, they always provide it, and then some. Recently my transmission blew-really putting me in a bind. As a one car family, it was incredibly important to receive the comprehensive report on what the car needed, so as to figure out the best course of action. Without any agenda we had multiple conversations with both Bill and Joe about the best course of action. Not only were they understanding, but they also helped us through the process of buying a new car. We brought in the car from the dealer and for a minimal fee they checked it to make sure that we were getting our moneys worth-but also to know how to best service our car for the future. I CANNOT recommend this place highly enough. The staff is everything you would want-knowledgable, caring, and honest. This is the only place I will take any of my cars moving forward. Decent shop, but stupid mistakes cost me time and money. Failure by the technician to lock my hood caused it to fly up into the windshield while I was driving! Paid $47 for synthetic oil change on my 2004 Jaguar. After leaving my car started smoking from under the hood. Brought it back and they said that they because they forgot to wash the oil off the engine (not sure why it was on there to begin with) the oil was burning off. Having to bring the car back made me late for work costing me money. I brought the car back 2 weeks later so that they could finish the inspection that they didn't finish during my oil change. They refilled some fluid and returned the car to me. Drove it home that night and kept hearing a sound that I was not used to every time I hit a bump. Made it home that night okay. The next morning I was headed in to work, and I heard the sound again. Soon as I realized that the noise was my unsecured hood flailing in the wind the hood flew up into my windshield. Bent the hood horribly and basically destroyed it. Again I was late for work because of this incident. Took it back to the shop looking for assistance. The owner had his tech knock out the dents the best he could, put it back on, and secure it. Told me that it was "safe to drive" and sent me on my way. Yes the car is now safe to drive but the hood looks horrible. When I called back to discuss getting the hood replaced, they told me that I should "sell the car" because it's just going to keep costing me money. I just bought the car and I don't want to sell the car. Even if I wanted to, how could I with my hood looking that way? Then, they told me that it happened because my emergency latch failed. That may be true, but the emergency latch would have never been needed had they actually CLOSED MY HOOD in the first place. I have open and closed my hood several times and never have I had this problem. The owner Bill never owned up to another bad mistake by his technicians that AGAIN COST ME MONEY! His resolution? Told me I could buy another hood from the junkyard and that they would put it on for me. Unacceptable...I should never have to come out of pocket to fix their mistake. Once again, I am left holding the bag with a dented and paint chipped hood. Who's responsible...? Me, for ever trusting this company with my vehicle. NEVER again! read more

So here's my story.. I was in a bind, my transmission was leaking fluid all over the place and come to find out I had a busted transmission plate. This was a huge deal because I'm a salesman and my vehicle enables me to earn a living. These guys didn't just tell me what was wrong with my car, they brought me in and showed me exactly what was going on.. I expected them to try to sell me on a bunch of different things to fix the problem. However what I got was a bunch of different options for what would fit into my budget and my circumstances in effort to get me back on the road.. I'm not a car guy and I don't know what the cost of repairs should be so I started doing my homework while they were looking at my vehicle. They gave me an original estimate for what I wanted to have done which was comparable to everyone else that I had talked to, So I decided to give them the go ahead and do the job. Only a couple hours after I brought my vehicle to them on the same day they had my transmission fixed. Not only did they do all the work and get it the job done in the same day, but they got the job done for $70 less than what the estimate was. They also inspected the rest of my vehicle, gave me a good idea of any issues that I had going on and topped off my oil that was a little bit low.. These guys are awesome! My Toyota Camry hit something on the freeway & got the bumper totally destroyed. I did a quick internet search & found Interstate Auto Care is the most nearby shop, so decided to bring my car here. After some diagnosis, they told me the thermo of the car was damaged, and it wouldn't be safe to keep driving this. It was on Saturday afternoon, and the next Monday was holiday, so they told me to just park the car in the shop until they can work with my insurance (NO garage fee). They also offered me a car to drive & also no car rental fee until they worked out the details with insurance & start the repair. It was about a week of free car rental. How generous of them! After the repair, my bumper looks like new (even better than before the collision). If you are looking for a body shop that knows what they're doing, treat customers with decency & warmness, then this is the place. I found this auto servicer by searching for an ASE-certified mechanic in my area, then checking for most acceptable negative reviews for each shop, and this shop won. My focus was just avoiding shoddy and/or useless repairs, I didn't really expect much else. Fortunately, from the moment you walk in, you can immediately tell a lot of thought and effort is put forth to making every person who comes in feel they are being taken care of. There are free snacks, drinks, and coffee/cocoa/tea. There is free wi-fi, a charging station, and there are leather recliner seats. But, more importantly, are Casey and Bill behind the counter who take every chance to go out of their way to explain as much as they can about the business and how they are trying to do right by the customer. Bill (the owner) in particular, loves to talk and have conversations with you, to give you as much advice, tips, and wisdom as he can. (This could possibly be considered the only 'negative' I can find about the place, if you are the type of person who wants things done without any unnecessary talking or the like.) I had been there twice, each time for a major but somewhat routine repair (timing belt well past recommended mileage replacement, front struts worn and noisy). And, since they are thorough here, they pointed out and discussed any other problematic signs they noticed while performing these jobs. They make it a point to take pictures and text them to you with a thorough write-up after inspection, which ends up actually being very helpful and convenient since it gives you time to look that over before talking to them to decide what to do. Neutral: I wasn't impressed negatively or positively by their prices or speed, but I luckily I am in a situation where I am even comfortable paying extra if I can feel confident they are performing the work properly. And, if doing it right means not hurrying to get things done early, then I am for it. Interstate fixed the problem last year. 11 months later, the car started running rough, check engine light came on, and they diagnosed the ECM as malfunctioning again. They backed up their 1 year warranty, and replaced/reprogrammed it for no charge. They back up their warranties. Good to find an honest, thorough service center. Interstate Auto Care was the exact auto repair place I have been looking for! Bill the Owner is truly exceptional. I started trying them out for alignments on both of my cars and was happy with it. They have a state of the art alignment analyzer that you see at the expensive dealership. From there I ask about a few minor things on my car that didn't necessarily need attention and they were genuine and honest ( where it would have been easy to say I needed it). I then need some brake repairs and they went above and beyond to repairing my vehicle. I do know enough about brakes that what they were telling made sense. Unfortunately, there was another portion of the brake system that was faulty and needed replacement. I knew my vehicle was older and it really needed to be replaced (especially with the harsh winters we have and the rust and corrosion from having my vehicle from several years). This business is one that stands out to provide excellent service. With many repair shops in the area this one goes above and beyond (definitely stands out). I genuinely recommend this place for honest, comprehensive and professional work. Like all work its expensive but its like every other repair on your car (Its always expensive). Took my vehicle there after discount tire recommended me a place to get my oil changed. The guy assured me that $32.00 was a little more expensive than those drive up places, where "high schoolers" are changing your oil, but they have a certified mechanic looking over your car. Not only did the oil change take 45 minutes they told me they couldn't get my window up. They told me it wasn't their fault and that I now had to pay them an hours worth of labor, $95, to fix what they broke. I asked if they would split it with me and he said why would we split it with you. So I wound up spending 2 and half hours at this place when all I wanted was my oil changed. I personally was not impressed at all and think they were pretty unprofessional about it. I think I'll stick with the "high schoolers" next time. Then again that's just my opinion. read more

Went in for a battery replacement, and left my car their. Via a phone call I was told by Bill the owner that the battery tray was rusted so badly that it was not safe to be used, and it would be an extra hour of labor ($100) plus his price of a new tray ($55). I stopped in at the end of the day to see the progress. I examined the tray and it only had a little layer of rust on the top of the battery platform and the metal was not thinned at all. After he admitted that the tray was in good shape after all and appropriately fine for an eight year old car, he refused to repair a bolt on the tray he broke taking it out, and refused to return the new tray that he talked me into buying without charging me for it since I approved it over the phone (due to a very inaccurate description of the original tray). The right thing would have been to repair what he broke, put the tray back and not charge the extra $150 he created by giving an inaccurate description of a good tray. Then he made me feel very uncomfortable on the phone accusing me of holding up 4 cars lined up behind me that need to get into the bay my car was occupying, implying that I'm costing him extra time and money to do my battery replacement. I stopped in an hour after that conversation only to find my car still in the same bay with no line of cars. I'm sorry Bill, though I've known you for a long time I would not suggest anyone taking their car to Interstate Auto Care. read more
