I guess I have forgotten to update this favorite that I just saw on the Shop Local in Boulder Yelp list. I shop there regularly for my grandchildren and had shopped there long before Yelp existed, for my own children. It's quite the eclectic mix still, with items for any age. My youngest loves the things she and we see whenever they visit.We have gotten her craft items to make, she has purchased little collecting boxes she likes with her own spending money. I have bought gifts for my adult children for their homes too.Things for their yards and decor items for their houses. Kites for every age and ability are still available. Its their signature collection and why the store came to be, so long ago. The staff is still wonderful and if you see it, buy it, because specific stock items change and may not be able to be restocked. I am not sure that I have ever walked out without finding something for someone on my list. read more

Into the Wind is one of those stores that you unsuspectingly walk into and then realize it's an hour later. It is the perfect place to take a kid or be a kid yourself. First, the kites. Clearly this store was started for the amazing kites they have. Seriously, take a moment and appreciate their beauty, even if you don't plan on buying one. Next, the store is absolutely chock full of games, toys, wind spinners (the kind you hang from your entrance way or put in your garden to watch mesmerized). Such a cute and fun shop on Pearl street! It's fun to just go in and see what they have for all ages. Recently I've gotten very obsessed with a sudoku pocket book they have there. They also have a great selection of toys and just fun little things. Highly recommend checking it out. read more

This is honestly one of the best if not the best toy store I have been to out here. Such a huge variety of product and they actually had yo-yos to try out, good ones! Nice to see skill toys on a shelf somewhere! While this store isn't gigantic, it seemed as though everything was selected to either be nice or offer good value, which I can appreciate. And again, greater variety of product than you see with most toy stores, which tend to be really specific and usually for good reasons. If you need gifts/souvenirs for anyone who's a kid-at-heart, this is definitely *the* shop to stop in at for your playful needs. This really was such an enjoyable shop to visit! This was just a joy to walk through. My teenage kids even found things they enjoyed. They were thoroughly entertained. I recall, they had this really cool Lunar Light show by ToySmith for only $20. Magical. Our favorite part was in the back -- they've got an entire super cool glow-in-the-dark section ("room"?) that lots of people were really enjoying. They have all sorts of games for people of all ages, neat puzzles, nostalgic rubber band guns, seemingly well-made kites, melodic wind chimes, neat swirly looking dice for games like Dungeons and Dragons, there are rows of board games, stationery, buttons, and so much more... into the Wind caught our attention with all of the pretty kites hanging fromthe ceiling- everyone loves kites so why not stop in to check out what else they have? This store has a huge variety of toys, games, and other items for both kids and the adult kids in your life. Some of the items were your standard fare and others were quite unique so it would be easy to find something for everyone here! Books, wind chimes, mugs, key chains and other items were plentiful as well. The store had plenty of room between displays even though the store carried a ton of items which I really appreciated. When you have a store that is full of things kids love, it helps to have extra room for when they aren't quite paying attention to their surroundings. Just super colorful, and they expand their products on the outside for them to call us shoppers in. I was already hypnotized by the glory of childhood gizmo and gadgets right in my face. There are thousands of crowded corners of all kinds of things to look at. Too much to look at, that it was rather difficult to process half the time. What a fun store! All of the colors make me happy ! Believe me when I tell you that there's something for everyone in this store. The ceiling is covered in cool, colorful kites, wind chimes, sun catchers etcetera. There are lots of assorted cool things like games, puzzles, gag gifts, wind-up toys, black light posters and a zillion more fun, cool or funky little items. This place is a whole lot of fun. As you walk in there are hundreds of things grabbing your attention...wind up toys, yo-yo's, giant kites, and so much more. It's an amazing toy store filled with anything and everything. The first thing that caught my eye were these wind up cars and ducks. For some reason it's just a lot of fun to wind them up and watch them go. We ran cars into giant ducks, raced, and more. Then I moved deeper into the store and saw the disc golf selection. It's a good sized selection and they've got a couple brands to choose from. After that I looked over some various other things, puzzles, mind games, rubber band guns, windup submarines...until I came to the yo-yo selection. I haven't had a yo-yo since I was a kid, but for some reason I really wanted one...one that was $30, much more than I ever paid for a yo-yo as a kid...and it looked really nice too...I imagined myself doing all sorts of tricks with it, walking the dog, doing the Eiffel tower, and everything else. That's when reality hit. I didn't need a yo-yo. Surely it would come home, be thrown around a couple times, and then sent off to a box where it would never be seen again. $30 for a couple throws and another knickknack taking up space at home? Not worth it. That's when I realized I could get it off Amazon for $16. Done. Shipped to my house and home by the time my flight got back in to Salt Lake City. And that's the only problem with this place. Prices on things can be quite high. Sure, some of the things have decent prices, but the thing I wanted was half off on Amazon. It's a great store to walk through and browse, which is likely what you are doing in the area and at all the shops around it. I would definitely stop in here and pick out a thing or two, but be warned that you can likely find a better price elsewhere. read more

Awful employees. Me and my wife went into this shop to find something for her god daughters 6th birthday party. I get that we look different. We have tattoos and colored hair. We are 30 and don't steal. We have good jobs. So we don't appreciate when we get followed around and can't shop in peace. My wife got fed up and commented on being profiled. When the employee accused us of being suspicious because she put a key chain on her purse. Honestly. Like we are going to steal a five dollar key chain. We aren't twelve. So this employee cops us serious attitude and instead of buying all the gifts for the birthday party we just buy the key chain because we felt obligated to. I'll never recommend this place to anyone. My wife is a pretty well known IG model with more than 50k followers and is planning to make a post about the experience. So I seriously hope you guys hire better employees. Encountered quite possibly the rudest store employee I've ever had the displeasure of meeting, hippy guy w neon green glasses I'm looking at you! Asked this guy where I could find a hanging kite the 3 inch one, I was corrected that it actually read 3 ft and then he just wandered away. Several minutes later I spotted him helping other customers and assumed he forgot about my request. Another gal then helped me find my item. When I went to the register the mean neon framed guy was back amd actually told me off for "sending another employee to get my kite when he had left it right behind the register!" Um ok, mean dude thanks for scolding me for asking for some customer assistance and your eye rolls were especially unwarranted. And thanks for not bothering to tell me thanks or to have a nice day, your rudeness was pushed to another level when you slid my bag to me and walked away. The store is cute, but rude employee with uppty attitude so unnecessary. Sheesh! read more

I don't believe there ever has been nor will there ever be a time when I go to Boulder and don't stop here. If nothing else to replenish my supply of nose whistles (yes they do carry them) I think this is one of the greatest toy stores ever because they don't offer the all the hyped-up copyrighted themed toys. This place has toy class. A great place to find your next white elephant gift, gag gift, or toy that doesn't come with a gun or different clothes. A limited preview of some of the things they offer: Bouncy balls the size of softballs, kites of course, miniature animals, tons of different wind-up toys, one of those little dudes that you squeeze and his eyes and ears pop out, finger puppets, marionettes, puzzles, many different types of plastic animals that squirt water, a wide selection of hackey sacks, and buttons that have phrases such as "Thanks to drugs I can smell colors again." The last time we visited they had a colored marble tree on which you dropped a marble or two and each branch that it hit, made a different note. I would love to own one of those. :) read more

Pros: Best kite store I've ever been to, and great service as well. Cons: I live in California... why is this store in Colorado? : ) I was in Denver and Boulder for a short weekend trip and stumbled upon this store by just walking by. I flew stunt kites as a kid and never really thought much about getting back into the sport. A couple of minutes browsing later, I convinced myself and my friends to spend over an hour at the store, and I ended up with three kites. How? They have a great selection, almost everything in their online catalog is also in stock so you can see it. On top of that, they added great service. Even though the store was jammed full of people on that busy weekend afternoon, a member of their staff was very attentive and helped me select the kite for my goals. He also gave me great, honest insight on price/performance reviews of the kites in their selection. I would highly recommend this store if you're looking to get into kiting, or just a great browse-shop experience. Hey, can you guys open a store here in San Francisco? This is a perfect store for interesting party favours or stocking stuffers. Little bouncy balls, animals, joke gifts, etc. abound and my kids absolutely love to go in here. The glow-in-the-dark room at the back is really fun and there is also a restroom - so helpful to know about when you're browsing here for a while and your kid really has to go to the bathroom! The kites are beautiful as are the multiple wind chimes and the staff is really helpful. I once watched one of them ring four wind chimes over and over again for a woman who just couldn't make her up mind as to what she really wanted in an outdoor sound! read more

So how does a kite store manage to stay in business for years in one of the city's most high-rent areas? Good question, especially when the Dunkin Donuts a mere 12 or so blocks away couldn't make it? Mafia front? Maybe. But it's more likely the result of years of great service and a store filled with quirky diversions for hobbyists and youngsters. Of course, you can get more than kites there, such as the ubiquitous Frisbee. As much wind Colorado and the Flatirons get I am very surprised that there are not a ton of kite stores in the Boulder area. As far as I am concerned this store is the 'go to' place if you want to buy a really good kite that doesn't split in two the minute a gust of wind comes. This is the toy store of toy stores! The line they carry is more for the imagination and less about the brands. In other words, this isn't wall-mart... You won't find babies and such. This is about interactive games, creative toys and of course KYTES! All kinds of flying creatures and creations line the walls and ceiling. As a youth in the community I enjoy patronizing stores that make me smile. This store is very fun to go in and to look at all of the items. From the time I went in I was watched very closely and even followed by the manager. I walked around and picked up a few items. After being followed closely I put an item back. I had a revelation after I left this shop (which is quite reminiscent of Wizard's Chest in Cherry Creek, sans the costumes.) If my dad could be a store, he would be the Into the Wind. Seriously. This place is packed to the rafters with all the crazy gift-giving ideas that make him happy and keep him joyfully engaged in catalog shopping all year long. Head massagers? Yodeling pickles? (If you read my WC review, you know I'm a fan) Bacon-shaped band-aids, giant magnifying glasses, LED lights that you can attach to just about anything, invisible playing cards, fortune-telling fish, wacky board games, party rats (this may be my new favorite gift)...the list goes on and on. And not to mention the obvious - the kites. If you haven't done your holiday shopping yet - especially stocking stuffers - I challenge you to *not* find something utterly hilarious or ridiculous or perfect for gifting in here. If you're visiting or living in Boulder, it is always fun to go to Into the Wind. The place is filled with fun toys and vibrant colors. You can get hacky sacks, wind chimes, kites, yoyo's, frisbees, wind up toys, educational items, and all sorts of other crazy fun stuff! If you ever need to find any type of gift for any age and are stumped, I would highly recc this place. Not only will you leave with gifts, it will give you ideas for future ones! Don't be fooled by the name. This store also sells kids toys and games. Aside from the place being packed with parents and adults, it had a very bright and cheerful experience when walking in. The selection of kids games was high. Not normal Hasbro/MB games, but variants of Fluxx, old style wood games, and various other non mainstream games. But the main appeal of the store are the kites. I haven't owned a kite in a long time, and a staff member was able to help me select a kite for my environment. Initially, he thought I was getting the wrong kite for Colorado winds, but after I told him I live on the coast in CA, he then told me the kite was the right type. Kites vary in type and experience. I would say if you're in Boulder and interested in buying a new kite, or trying kite flying out for the first time, this is THE place to go. read more

Charming store and fun assortment. They have something for every person, no matter the age. I got several Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers here. The prices are also quite reasonable. My only complaint is around a negative check out experience. The associate acted like I was an inconvenience to him and made a rude comment regarding a personal matter to me. Based on that experience, I would not return. Brick and mortar retailers should know that customer service is their only differentiator, so you need to appreciate that people choose to spend their money with you. read more

We really love this store. There is something for everyone, from a young child to an older adult. They have items to play in the wind with, like kites, frisbees, etc. But they also sell educational items, like science experiment kits. They have glow-in-the dark stars, a large assortment of toys that could serve as stocking stuffer items and miscellanous enjoyable toys/trinkets, etc. I would definitely recommend going here. It's addictive! The only downside is that I've found many of the staff to be rather lackluster. Maybe they are just overwhelmed by all the foot traffic they get daily. But other than that, it's a real treat to go to this store. read more
