Utah, my car wouldn't re-start. Not a lock- out but a device malfunction. I am a female and was stranded on the side of the road 50 miles from the nearest town. I had stopped to pull over to look at a feature on the side of the road and then tried to restart. After passing, turn the key and nada - device reads "wait to restart" with a 3 min countdown. This happened over and over again. Then, I call and I am on hold - mind you, still stranded on the side of the road. I'm on hold for at least 30 minutes and the "person" I spoke to told me that I could get a tow 15-30 miles and to keep the receipt. I explained to this person that would not work, I am 50 miles from the nearest town and hours from my service center. Then I asked to speak with a supervisor. She said yes, it was a malfunction of the blower. We did a few things and somehow got it working and I could get home. There were a few more issues after that but issues seemed to resolve themselves. This was 5/17. Then today, 5/30, I am on my way out of town to see my son - 4 hour drive. On the way out of town, I stopped to get my blower calibrated. Well, my car is still at the dealership. After being calibrated, the car would not start. My vacation was cancelled, I won't get to see my son graduate, all because Intoxalock devices suck. Also, despite the fact that I got it calibrated there, there was no technician available that could look at it or fix it. Now, I've been stuck multiple times in dangerous situations because the device malfunctioned. I live in a rural area and was just lucky that I had a friend who was close to where my car was at the dealership. If she would not have been there, I would've had to take an Uber for an hour to get back home. My battery is fine. These are not lockouts, these are purely device malfunctions. Use any other company! I have heard they are all bad and meant to inconvenience you. The devices are mechanically flawed and every mechanic I've spoken to who has to work on cars with them agrees. Additionally, I've been on hold for over an hour - you cannot get help!!! Still on hold - 2 hours, 3 hours....also, this is an intoxalock issue, I am in no way talking about the dealership. Now, after being without a car, missing a day of wok, having to cancel my trip.... Intoxalock has the audacity to tell me it's my fault and a problem with my car. I was on the phone with customer service from 8 am to 1 pm today and got absolutely nowhere. Their so called roadside assistance is a joke. Absolutely do not go with intoxalock for your interlock device. Horrible customer service, the device will drain your battery unless you install a maintainer and plug it in every night, and the worst part I've delta with is if you get put into a lockout, they will charge you $80, period. And no, they will not refund that charge, even if you had scheduled maintenance from the app. If you have them now, id suggest removing your checking card info from their servers and only using you bank account and routing info that way when they try to give you a bogus charge, you can stop the transaction. There is no reason to charge someone for a lockout that happened because of faulty equipment. Granted yes the money was refunded, but only to my intoxalock account. The extremely loud alarms, give you such high anxiety, which make you nervous and hard to breathe. I called the company and I told them that I thought the machine was faulty. But they said that they do not send out faulty machines that they test And calibrate each machine before it is sent out to the reputable dealer that installs. Not to mention you have to start the car every day Because it pulls the battery from your car to keep the machine charged. So if you have to do jail time, or you work from home and dont drive every single day. Or still drink at home responsibly or if you have to go on vacation for any reason, you have to have somebody at home to start your car every single day or lockout. If you live in a semi cold area, not even snow, you have to sit in your car and wait so that the machine warms up so that you can breathe into it before you start your car. So you lose 5 minutes of just sitting in your car, waiting for this machine to warm up. You have to bring a warm towel and wrap it in the warm towel like a damn baby!!! Can't even imagine how long you have to wait if it snows in your area. It is illegal to disconnect the machine and bring it inside of your house!! We lucked out and got the best, friendly, caring guy to help us with this somewhat difficult and emotional journey of putting in and operating our voluntary breathalyzer machine. Matthew was just the best and at installation - Alan was absolutely fabulous to work with and so helpful to instruct with no judgment and caring instructions. It simply couldn't have asked for a better experience. Especially given the challenges of what led up to the necessity of the damn thing!! I would recommend anyone struggling with this dangerously life changing addiction to install one of these in your car. The peace of mind is worth 100 times what it costs to install. For sure get Intoxalock to arrange the installation with California Audio in Salt Lake City! You won't be sorry and you might save more than one life!! This company sucks! I was on a time limit with dmv before they suspended my license. Intoxalock messed up my vin number on the paper dmv needed and I had to wait 4 days for the correct one. So my license got suspended and I had to pay the dmv fees. Also when signing up for this company the guy gave me the price and then once I signed the lease the price went up! Interlock customer beware. (This is not a review for the shop that placed the device, the shop and mechanics were very helpful and kind. This is an Intoxalock review.) I went with this company because my attorney had a coupon for them, and I thought they were less expensive. After this experience, my attorney is no longer recommending this company, and I deeply regret giving them my business. 1. The price they quote monthly is false. They charge bi-weekly, not twice a month, so this means extra payments. They also charge random fees for things that are not used. This makes them the most expensive company out of all of the options I had. 2. The hold time can easily be 30-40 minutes, and many times, they will hang up on you once they're finally on the line. It is very difficult to talk to a real person. I always had to pretend I had a lockout just to get someone on the phone. 3. Once they're on the phone, their Indian accent is so thick that they're almost impossible to understand. The company also said they do not have the ability to transfer calls and do not have supervisors. So, if you can't understand them, you have to start the process all over again. 4. The Intoxalock workers will lie to you. They will tell you they're waiving fees, but then they charge the fees anyways. They will tell you that they can troubleshoot from their department, but then they will tell you they don't have that capability. They will tell you they made notes to your account for the next person to be able to help more effectivity, but then the next person will say there are no notes. 5. The interlock device started to have problems and they refused to fix the device and instead charged multiple lockout fees. The device would stay active long after my car was off and then go off randomly and that would cause a lockout. The volume stopped working and the device had to be monitored by sight. 6. When it was time to remove the device, they stated it was 60 dollars plus the 200 to take it out. They then charged another 340 dollars for random fees. 7. Worst of all for me was that the Intoxalock workers seem to have no compassion or willingness to help when something did go wrong. They were rude and would not help when things went wrong. There is no one you can talk to if you have a problem. There is no recourse when something goes wrong. There isn't a person you can go and see. You are completely in their mercy, and that is not something this company has. read more

The codes (explanation for issue) are arbitrary and make no sense. Either way these issues yield the company and their service providers much additional income. Let's not forget the phone tree and hold times! I finally gave in and insisted that I get a removal order. Mind you they want to complicate this and charge you more money. The installation process was great, awesome customer service but after all that was done, it was almost impossible to work with these people. I had to send an EMAIL request to get my device removed. I sent in the required documents and I didn't get a reply until the moment after my account had to be charged for the following month. Since removal, I've been charged for roadside assistance every two weeks! I have ADHD so there's almost no keeping up with that. I tried calling about it and they said I needed to send an EMAIL to cancel the service that I assumed came with the device? This was no fault of my own. Technically I had no "active account" so how was I to cancel something I don't have? I've been getting these charges since March 2023 and now all of a sudden they have online chat where they can take care of you. The moral of the story is I've been scammed for months and I'm still unsure if they are going to refund me. I have yet to receive a confirmation email of cancellation but I did get another email saying they were trying to charge me again the moment I was done with the "chat" so there's that. We had a unit voluntarily installed on a vehicle, and we had nothing but problems, extremely poor customer, service, and a complete lack of caring, even though I was an optional customer. The experience was so bad that we remove the device from the vehicle. Beware of the hidden charges and fees and fines they will assess. The cost will go up. The system is difficult to use, there is a series of inhaling and exhaling with specific trimming that must be accomplished in exactly or else you have to re-try and after a couple tries you automatically get fined. I've had this device for about 18 months, this has been a true nightmare. Every time you need to get a hold of a representative, make sure you designate at least 2-3 hours. Then once I finally get a hold of someone, my issue never gets resolved. Please do yourself a favor and go with a different company. Horrible customer services. I was quoted 10.00 less per payment, 20 per month and 240.00 more annually. Multiple lockouts due to maybe a low battery that the service center says drops to 8v and orielys and I myself can't get less than 11v on crank. Don't attempt to get any technical service from this company.. unplug and plug it back in type of fixing their issues. I asked minimum voltage required to tech support who said on repeat 12v and had no clue it drops when you start your car. 110.00 each lockout.. causes unknown nor proven yet you must pay within 2 days to keep using your car. An absolute nightmare to deal with and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.. even if I didn't like them. I will be adding this to all review possibilities. My car is currently in a lockout again. It seems to happen about every month or two automatically when you plug it back in after taking it out the car for cold weather. Read saying it has a violation 12 . Even though I unplug it and plug it in the same way all of the time. I first put it on power saving mode and then unplug it after it dies down. However, sometimes when you plug it back in it says lock out violation code 12 and they charge you $75 or you cannot drive your vehicle. I've paid them over $1,000 from this type of thing happening over time. Just in fees. I have to call them now for the same issue. I'm fed up with this. There is a class action lawsuit on facebook. Hopefully we can get some things changed. Because this is very unfair to the public. And we cannot do anything about it. read more

I did - no issues a month later got a letter from the state stating I was not producing readings. Called Customer Service and they told me to bring in to service it. I stated ok we can do that but we just did and that did not solve the problem so can we work through this together. they got rude told me the same thing over when asked to speak to someone else was refused and HU on. called back and was on hold through multiple channels for over an hour when I got a "manager that was so rude to me, talked over me did not help and just started repeating everything I said to him back to me. Still have not heard any reason as to why the device is not working correctly and they state I have to pay for the charges to fix it. This is the worst company and product that I have ever seen. I want to warn anyone who is considering this company to rethink your choices. There are many other products out there...DO NOT USE INTOXALOCK. We put this on my son's vehicle almost a year ago. Not only is it super expensive, it is damaging to your vehicle. During the 11 months that we had it, we had to have the vehicle towed at our expense to a service location because the unit would not work. The service location had it for 3 days waiting for Intoxalock to send them parts. We were 3 days without a vehicle. Then a couple months later we started having trouble starting the vehicle. After many days of having to jump start it, we took it in and put a new battery in it. Not even 3 weeks later the vehicle was dead and needed to be jumped every time. I called intoxalock and they were not only rude but very unhelpful. Each time we called we had to wait on hold for 30 to 45 minutes. Horrible customer service. The worst I have seen in a long time. We decided to take the Intoxalock off and put another unit on. I called Intoxalock on 3 different occasions and told them the only reason we were taking this off was because it was damaging our vehicle and we were not able to drive it without jump starting every day. They did not care or offer any suggestions for the issues we were having. They charged $228 in administrative fees to remove it. Not only that the service location charged $110 to actually take it off, and the new company charged $207 to put a different unit on. If you don't want to completely waste a bunch of money and cause yourself a TON of aggravation and stress, DO NOT USE INTOXALOCK. read more

BEFORE READING THIS JUST GO AHEAD AND TAKE INTOXALOCK OFF YOUR LIST OF POSSIBLE PROVIDERS, HERE IS WHY. If you're court-ordered to use an ignition interlock device (IID), avoid Intoxalock at all costs. My experience with them was a frustrating nightmare, riddled with poor customer service, unreliable equipment, and deceptive sales tactics. False Promises and Rude Staff: From the very beginning, the sales pitch didn't match reality. Intoxalock promised a smooth and hassle-free process, but their customer service was far from it. When I encountered issues, I was met with rude and unhelpful personnel who seemed more concerned with quotas than resolving my problems. His name is Michael Predmore, and he was completely inept, greedy, and a transparent dollar-is-king kinda individual. He sent me the wrong equipment required for my location, and after the initial installation when I CAUGHT the problem, not him, I had to sacrifice my time to have the device removed and the correct install completed at their expense but at the cost of my time. He was very responsive during this process, I would guess until he knew he would get his commission, but once that was assured, he immediately stopped with that communication nonsense and in a final email made sure I knew he couldn't help anymore, and for me to contact customer support (outsourced to South East Asia of course). PRO-TIP: If you already have their service, then you can bypass the outsourced customer service and circuitous routing process, by calling from a number not in their system. This routes you DIRECTLY to sales, new money get the best effort! They will then route you to customer service, in the hopes, that if a sale comes out of it, they will get credit. After I did get the correct device, they created a whole new account for their app (which sucks), and it took a month to get my payments on the initial account transferred. They also tried to bill me for a lockout because I disconnected the handset to prevent exposure to cold weather as I was instructed to do by the service center, that's that sleeve you get that can only be removed or installed by disconnecting the device, and makes the already bulky handset impossible to hide. The handset is bright white, and extremely obvious, to further the humiliation you probably already feel. But don't lose the sleeve the koozie-like material sleeve must be lined in platinum because if you lose it you will have to pay a fee for that too. Substandard Equipment: The interlock device itself was unreliable and prone to malfunctions. False positives and technical glitches caused unnecessary stress and delays. About six weeks after my installation, I was contacted by Intoxalock because they were having communication issues with the device. They needed me to bring in the device (and my vehicle) for a tampering inspection, to verify I hadn't messed with the equipment (I hadn't and I told them that, but I'm a horrible person who got a DUI, so I am also a deceptive liar who couldn't be trusted) my work schedule is done two weeks out, and I couldn't surrender my vehicle for several days for their verification. I did schedule an appointment a couple of weeks out, but by then my monthly calibration was due, and they wouldn't calibrate it until the inspection was done. Because even though they were having the same problems with other customers, they assumed it was a tampering issue first, before even considering the historically faulty equipment. PRO-TIP: Do not blame your service center if you already have this equipment, it's not their fault. My service center, which I won't mention here as not harm their business by linking them to this horrible operation. They are the ones who arranged for a tow and the information about the other equipment issues. So I lost the vehicle for 5 days while the inspection was done and new equipment was sent and installed because I didn't tamper with it, as I told them, and since they wouldn't spend the money on a new device and shipping until they had proof it wasn't my fault. My service center arranged for the tow and billed them directly. If they hadn't I am sure I would have been out of pocket for that as well as the time off work. They refused any kind of billing credit for my inconvenience, after all, it was my fault for being such a reprobate and getting a DUI, so I deserve what I get. Deceptive Practices and Hidden Costs: Intoxalock downplays the ongoing costs associated with their service. Be prepared for surprise fees that weren't mentioned upfront. i.e. Roadside assistance I didn't need, a sleeve for the device, a separate lease fee for the wiring and camera, etc. The whole experience felt like a money grab rather than a genuine effort to help people regain driving privileges. Instillation was easy. Intoxalock is not helpful or no it does their customer service have any knowledge base around your case even after reading case notes. They are unable to tell you anything including final calibrations if needed or reporting details. They continue to unnecessarily charge customers fees, no violations or missed calibrations the lease expired over 30 days ago and we are still being charged because they will not do what is needed so the device can be removed. They are extremely negligent to their customers . This is a sorry, company and I would not recommend them to an anyone for any reason ever my advice steer clear. In PA you need to have no violations for the 30 days before your time is up. I've heard of many people's devices giving them baseless violations in those last 30 days and keeping them on the hook for much longer than their allotted time. Use literally anyone else. This company is a sham. You can follow this process to a T and still come out with MANY violations based on the way you start your car and turn it off... nevermind any drinking. You will NOT be able to argue these violations and they will be reported to the state. I wish I could give them -5 stars. Intoxalock is by far the worst interlock company, I strongly encourage you to use literally anyone else. The costumer service is subpar, the devices themselves are so outdated that if you have a car 2010 or newer you will have nothing but problems and intoxalock does not take accountability for that. They will tell you it is your car and you will replace everything possible until they will finally admit it's the device and then send you another that also doesn't work. If I could give them a negative star I would. I've been with this company for 1 1/2 years and it's been nothing but positive since day one. I have had to take my car in 5 times for faulty equipment. Miss work and valuable time to do this. They have hidden charges they add on all the time not telling you before hand about them. Customer service is horrible you're lucky to get a person you can understand. I could keep going but I'm already starting to get upset just thinking about all this stuff.
