Service was horrendous. Waiter forgot to put in drink orders not once, but three times, and only offered to comp one of the drinks. Even tried charging us for a drink that never arrived. Waiter blamed it on it being a busy day. The restaurant was less than half full... She never wrote down our drink orders and also refused to split the bill between two cards. Rarely checked on our table and when she did we had to remind her multiple times about our orders. Ordered fries for an app for the table and they came out with our meals. Food was nothing special, especially for the price. Think an elevated TGI Friday's or Chili's. Went for brunch and two of us got the steak skillet and ordered it medium and medium rare. Steaks came out well done. There is a 21% service, which would have been fine because I usually tip that anyways but given the service (or lack there of) I would have done much less. Manager said it could t be removed or adjusted. Lastly, the atmosphere was boring, there was 0 music playing in our section. Views were fine. Not blown away. Much better rooftops in the city. We were celebrating a graduation and a birthday and decided to check out the rooftop bar. we arrived shortly after midnight and were happy to have been able to obtain a table. we waited almost 20 minutes for someone to take our order. We went up to the bar and were rudely met with a server stating, "if you order at the bar, you forfeit your table". That would have been nice to know when we arrived. Our server, Christine, was able to fix the situation and made us feel welcome. Last call came, the roof closed up and then we heard, "you all must leave. The bar is closed." I honestly don't understand why this place doesn't have better reviews because every time I've been here it's been an amazing experience. It is pricy, but it's one of those spots you go to for the experience. I think IO Godfrey is probably my favorite rooftop in Chicago - the views are so amazing, and I love the set up with the sleek booths and the bars. The staff really know how to treat you for a special occasion. My friends and I took our girlfriend for her birthday and they popped a complimentary bottle of champagne for us. I took my sister here for a special occasion and they treated us so well - the head bartender personally brought us our drinks and was very friendly, and when she asked him about this fun drink another table had, he said he would bring it for her to try, on the house. It came out in a glass dome and was smoking - plus it tasted great! It's definitely a younger scene, the music is pretty clubby. As for the food, the small plates are where it's at. First- frozé was amazing, highly recommend!! Highly pretentious, customer service (door and hosts) are level 0. I'm from LA so I know pretentious. When we checked in, they made it seem like it was SO crowded. Bar was half empty. They told us there were no tables, a 34 person waitlist. The place was at less than half capacity the entire evening. We started with froze at the bar, noticed how empty it was despite the door man's disclaimer so I asked for a table. This man, with the biggest attitude said he wouldn't talk to me until I closed my tab at the bar. Insane. Closed the tab, they gave us the most inconvenient table. Our server was amazing. She made up for the door staff and host. Food was good too-- sliders, tuna tacos, poke is actually poke bites.. but delicious. Fast forward more friends joined and one had a hard time because they're turning down people at the door when the rooftop is 45% at max. The customer service at the door is trash. If I was management, I would treat people well to bring in more business rather than perpetuating a fake exclusive at capacity fake narrative because I was here the entire time and it was never even close to full. Walked into a Winter Wonderland!! Had no clue this place was going to be as awesome as it was! They had a full outdoor rooftop area transformed into a glorious winterscape with igloos and heated cabanas. There were light up trees and robes incase you're still cold, despite heat lamps. The drinks are on the high end at $15 per cocktail (almost approaching NY cocktail prices). However, we orders the Snowflake Sangria, which was all alcohol and super strong (vodka boosting the white wines). The drink was decorated with fruity flavored snowflake shaped ice cubes. The sangria is actually a little summery with its red, white, and blue colors and melony flavor- but it was still a great drink. Next I got the Grapefruit Spritzer, which, truthfully, I preferred to the Snowflake Sangria. So glad I stumbled into this rooftop by accident, and definitely can't wait to see it again, hopefully catching an igloo next time! read more

My first time at this rooftop bar! This bar is on the 4th floor of the Godfrey Hotel. Although my party and I didn't order any food here, we got drinks and were able to sit outside on their porch. Views are absolutely beautiful and it's a great, more classy spot for an evening out in River North. Our table outside featured some sofas around a fireplace as we watched the sunset. Super enjoyed the heaters around the porch also (we went on a colder February afternoon and still enjoyed it!). I really loved our bartender who was friendly despite being so busy. One of us ordered one of their signature drinks ("The Godfrey"), and it was super cool to watch it heat up and distill. I'm not sure the quality justifies the prices of some of the items but hey, we're paying for the outside ambiance and city views, which you 100% get. It's beautiful! We come around 4ish and end up spending at least a couple hours here enjoying the view and the drinks. The rainbow sangria we ordered for the table was delicious. The events can get a bit rowdy. Do not show up in jeans on event nights - I've seen way too many people get turned away for that. This is one of the best urban rooftop bars I've been to. It's gorgeous on a sunny afternoon and the vibes are excellent. It's a pretyt hip place wiht a DJ so that's a plus. The bartenders can be a bit nicer and more exciting BUT everything else is plush. The outdoor seating is great! They have cabanas, comfy lounge seating, tables for dining, etc. I also like their inside lounge seating. It's classy with dim light setting. The view is about a 4/5 star which is great. I went here for Brunch on Sunday a little after they opened. The location is on the 4th floor of hotel with a beautiful atmosphere for the city. We were welcomed by the Hostress and asked if we had reservation. We showed up early to our 11:30 reservation but that wasn't a problem. We followed her outside and wow. Then it was topped with Hollandaise. The Crab Benedict had a crab cake, poached egg and Hollandaise... also two pieces. We also ordered the truffle fries. The fries came out fairly quick. Crispy fries and well seasoned. It also had a side of ketchup and truffle Aioli. The Aioli was lacking a lot of flavor. It was good but you could taste the truffle much. However. I did enjoy the salty and crispy fries. It was a perfect thing to much on and they give you more than enough for 2 people. Shoot, I think it would be a perfect appetizer for like 4-6 people. Anyways, back to the main food. The steak was a little bland and lacking in salt. The hollandaise didn't have a rich buttery and salty flavor. I tried a piece of the Crab. Food and ambiance was great. Server, Rachel, was great as well, however, 2 stars are based on my experience with management. I went in today to get clarifications on the amount that I was charged for the Winterland Igloo deposit and was met with the Manager, Ashley, who provided poor, dismissive customer service. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon a friend and I went to I/O during Brunch hours, we noticed the Mimosas kit on the brunch menu $50. Our server, Rachel informed us that we could switch the deposit wine ($225) for mimosas and there would be a credit to the bill. Ok, sounds perfect. Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding, we would not be getting the Mimosa kit on the brunch menu but a higher priced champagne from the drink menu which was not explained at the time of ordering, a simple misunderstanding. When going to speak with the Manager about the charge of the wine ($225) vs. the Mimosas that were ordered, Ashley was kind enough to get a copy of my receipt but that's when the customer service ended. I attempted to explain what I was informed during our dining experience and tried to understand how the Mimosa kit turned into a $200 charge with no Mimosas on my receipt. I was cut off multiple times, Ashley stated, "We don't need to explain it to you, it's written everywhere?" At this time, I'm trying to understand the charges, receipt and brunch menu, I ask Ashley, "Do you understand what I trying to say? " She replies, "No, I don't, because you're not making sense." At what point in customer service do you tell a customer that they're not making sense when they're seeking to understand? In short, my $225 wine deposit was switched for the $200 champagne. I do not mind paying for any experience or services rendered, the beignets, Benedicts, sliders, lamb chops and sweet potatoe skillet were great, however, if I have questions or need clarity, I expect to be met with someone who's attempting to understand my concerns and not be dismissive. There are so many tactful ways to handle customers and this definitely is not one of them. Customer Service Follow up from the managers response: Clearly there is a problem with trying to understand what customers are saying with this establishment. I did not ask to change any prices or policies (How did you get that I wanted you to change that from my review). The problem was clarification on the changes that were made while dining to understand my receipt. Grant G saying he's not going to change a policy for me is in alignment with POOR CUSTOMER service. Wow. So just from walking inside I could already tell I was going to LOVE this place. The music, the lights, the layout, the vibes, and all the colors were to die for. Also, the VIEW is amazing!! I came here with my Bf to celebrate our anniversary and this rooftop was perfect. The drinks were amazing and extremely delish! I must add that creating a reservation here was not easy. We had to send an email and get approved before actually getting gla reservation, but after doing that we were able to get a table with the time and day we wanted without an issue. Also when making the reservation we were told we would only have 75 minutes but the staff did not rush us out AT ALL. So that was nice. We ordered the octopus and got the donut dessert and wow soooooo good. But honestly forget about the food the drinks and overall music and vibe will make me come here again. I am in love love love with this place. I will be back to show more of my friends. LOVED IT!! So yum and so precious! I'll try and keep this review short and sweet just like my visit to the I|O Godfrey's rooftop. I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon on an impromptu bar crawl for my friend's birthday. When we arrived we were told the space would be closing in a half hour for a private party, but we decided to grab a quick drink anyway before being on our merry way. The rooftop space itself is worth checking out. I think it's located on like the 4th floor so you aren't up super high, but the string lights, couches, plants, and of course a great view of the city makes this atmosphere worthwhile. If you want to avoid the bottle service bougie vibes, I'd say come here for brunch or an afternoon cocktail. I enjoyed their frosé which I realize is super basic of me, but it was delicious! Wasn't going to pass that up on a summer day. Service at the bar was quick and friendly. I will say that I feel like they maybe need to update the attire of the waitresses though? This is just my opinion, but I felt like the vibe at the Godfrey was pretty classy and well, their outfits...were not. They basically wore black tank tops with black booty shorts and weird cheap looking tan wedge shoes. I made a brunch reservation here after staying at the hotel all weekend to celebrate my birthday. I arrived and checked in for my reservation. The hostess was immediately rude and had a visibly bad attitude. I asked if it was possible to be seated inside since it was cold outside. Upon seating me, she walks over to the server station and clearly starts talking about me, directing hand gestures towards me, thinking I couldn't see her. When her coworkers started looking at me and noticed I could see everything they were doing, the hostess quickly glanced at me then stepped out of my line of sight. It was such gross, uncomfortable mean girl behavior. It ruined the whole vibe for my birthday celebration....so much so that my entire table agreed to get up and walk out! We left on the spot and took our business to Storyville down the street, where we were politely greeted and they went above and beyond to celebrate my birthday.
