Terrible experience but giving 2 stars b/c my color turned out well in the end. Late posting this bc I just realized that I never submitted, but here is the quick version: In May, I went to JoJo for a partial balayage + a cut. When she dried my hair the 1st time after coloring it, it looked good but I didn't see much brightness around my face like we discussed during my consult. I didn't realize that she hadn't noted that specific point & I should have brought it up-- that's my bad. I was admiring & looking at the color on the bottom of my hair when she suggested that we go to the front under better lighting. Out front, I told her it was beautiful & thanked her. She asked me what else I thought of it & I explained that I would prob like a bolder money piece next time since I like my hair bright around my face. She offered to add some bleach to the front right then or have me come back later for an addt'l discounted service. I accepted the offer to fix it then, but only if she was okay with it & explained that I didn't want her to be offended b/c I understand how hair takes several trips sometimes. She said it was fine, but her body language + tone made it clear that she was upset w/ me. When I sat back down in her chair I could FEEL the negative energy. I commented about how she does such beautiful work & she snapped "Yeah, you just don't like YOUR hair!". I apologized & told her I felt terrible. She said that what I was looking for was highlights, not balayage. I told her it had been achieved previously w/ other colorists w/ balayage & she asked to see a picture. I pulled up the only photo I could think of that shows my most recent balayage/foilyage (last year) & she swiped up on my phone to examine the date of my post as if she didn't believe me. She told me not to worry about it this time but next time I should tell a stylist what I don't like before they blow dry. I explained that the lighting in the suite coupled w/ the glare of her studio light in the mirror made it hard for me to see & that I was really sorry. At that point, I felt terrible that I had offended her & became terrified about what she was going to say about me on her Instagram &/or to her other clients bc of what I had observed/experienced regarding her prior conflicts w/ clients. That, paired w/ the terrible week I had leading up to that day made the tears start flowing. I apologized for crying multiple times & explained that I was having a terrible week & was probably just extra emotional bc of that. She seemed fine after that & her vibe & tone were weird, but not angry. She finished my money piece, did something to the ends of my hair w/ bleach, put another gloss on, finished cutting & styled my hair. The service was $337 + I left a 25% ($84.25) tip b/c of the extra time she took to try to make my hair right, the fact that I felt bad that I was her only client for the day, & *truth be told* b/c I was terrified that I'd be another client she'd talk sh*t about. The day after, I blow dried my hair straight & could see chunks of hair that were at least 1" longer than the rest. Having to cut/fix my own hair after a $50 haircut & the entire experience I had was pretty damn infuriating. While I appreciated her taking the time to try to make my color right, I had been looking forward to the treating myself for months & it was a total let down. When ppl spend that kind of money & time, they don't expect to be made to feel like crap, like they're not welcome, & have to fix their own hair afterwards. I only told 1 friend & my husband about the whole experience & DMed JoJo to express my disappointment & feelings after having to fix my haircut. I saw that JoJo read my msgs, but didn't reply. My friend later alerted me that JoJo posted me/my hair, a couple of stories about being booked thru the next month, then 10+ mins of JoJo blasting me & twisting what went down. She alleged that someone blasted her on social media & sent paragraph after paragraph telling her how horrible she was. I NEVER made any of what I sent her public & actually posted a pic of my hair that was positive on the day of my service. I replied to her stories with a single "Wooooww" & she replied telling me how she had decided to send me back $50 for the haircut, asked for my Venmo, stated she was sorry I was displeased & offered for me to come in so she could fix my hair again. I received the Venmo & appreciate that, but there's NO WAY in hell that I'd go back to sit in her chair after the unprofessionalism, belittling & lies spewed on her Instagram stories regarding me/the situation, & the uncleanliness (dropped brush on the floor multiple times & used it on my hair w/out cleaning + used a round brush full of hair on my blow out). I did not intend to post any type of review until I watched that entire mess on Instagram, but I believe that people need to be warned. I recorded the entire rant & replied to her calling her out for twisting what I said & she took the stories down.

I've been to a lot of hair stylists for blonde work over the years, but never felt like any of these stylists were able to give me the blonde I was looking for. Ever since I started going to JoJo I've never thought about going to another stylist. She's upfront about how many sessions and what kind of upkeep it takes to get to my goal hair colour, and I've never been happier with my hair. Even if I have issues with my hair colour or need an emergency tone before a big meeting JoJo has always made time to fit me in and make sure I'm absolutely in love with my hair. I've never had a stylist be so real with me about how to best achieve my dream hair. I have naturally very dark hair and I was worried I wouldn't be able to have one of those transformative moments after one session, but JoJo absolutely nailed it and I left the chair almost completely at my goal after one session. Plus, Jojo has actually cared about the integrity and health of my hair and helps me learn how to best take care of it. I seriously couldn't recommend her more, anytime someone asks for a salon recommendation I always point them to JoJo

    Hair by Jojo!! Love it.

Jojo knows her art of hair! She is knowledgeable, listens to what you want and sets real expectations with her clients. I have recommend several friends to her after experiencing several amazing hair transformations with her. She is truly awesome. I am very selective on who I go to and I continue to return to her based on the results I get with her. She also continues to study and learn her passion and it shows. I highly recommend her!

I booked the "Haircut - Luxury Experience" for my first visit and showed Ruby Perez three reference…read morephotos. I clearly requested a slanted, vertical side cut with the front length touching my chin, and suggested trimming only about 1 cm. What I left with was a nightmare--my hair chopped drastically short, front above my jawline, sides straight, and nothing like the photos. When I pointed this out, she casually said it would "look like the pictures in 8 weeks." I was shocked and humiliated. During the haircut, she even told me twice not to cross my legs--something I've never experienced at any salon. I asked to switch stylists, and was told I'd have to pay extra, even though the issue was not my fault. Ruby then claimed that because I agreed to a graduation in the back--which she suggested--she had to ignore my other requests. I cried in my car on the way home, devastated. $160+tax for a ruined haircut and a traumatizing experience. I can only hope no one else has to go through this. Without exaggeration, this was the worst salon experience of my life.

Ruiz Salon in the Seaholm area is both luxurious yet approachable. I visit Dalton for Color Work…read more(coloring my grays) every few months. He's wonderful and always does a great job. Jason has cut my hair the last few times and I'm always so pleased with how it comes out. The shampooing experience is always amazing. They massage your head and have you breathe in a lovely scent. It's always a treat! Random tidbit but the bathrooms are also super nice. I enjoy washing my hands with their delicious rosemary hand wash. They do validate parking but I usually book on early Saturday mornings when street parking is free. It's so nice having a salon and team that you can count on.

Just got myself the best hair cut by Hanna! She is very friendly, her studio space is clean,…read moreintimate and she knew the aesthetic I was hoping to achieve when I showed her some pictures of the cut I was after. I showed up with SUPER duper long grown out hair but she was meticulous and fast in getting me sat in the chair, layers cut for days, and even asked if I wanted to lighten up the thickness of my hair. It feels so healthy and refreshed since it's been some time I've sat down for a hair cut. And the fact that it's a reasonable haircut and right by my house in NW Austin/Cedar Park proximity, I love everything about her, the zen. She can talk to you or you can keep it low energy to recharge as she was playing the great British bake off for me and it was absolutely divine to just have peace and quiet for my hair goals on NYE! I can't wait to return and see her again, she has my loyalty and love! Thank you for a wonderful haircut Hanna!

I scheduled an appointment with Hannah on a whim. I've been to many Korean salons in Austin you…read morename it CNN, Soha Hair Salon, Bono and the likes but they all lacked the genuine customer service that we all hope for rather you are treated like just another body on their salon chair to make a quick buck. Hannah was different from the outset she listened to what I wanted to achieve and gave her honest feedback as to whether that style would look as pictured or whether it would be a high maintenance hairstyle. I trusted her opinion and went with more layers to give my hair some movement and I have to say I am beyond pleased. Not only is Hannah down-to-earth but her prices can't be beat also her private salon space is clean and tidy. If you are looking for an experienced hairstylist who listens to you and executes precisely then search no further than Hannah!
