Man oh man! The employees told me when ordering this Roast Pork Supremo it was better than Dinic's famous in Philly, Pa. I was skeptical but I tried it anyway. Wow! That sandwich for me was stupendous! A symphony of flavors that explode in the mouth! Some people talk about adding this and that, for me, the sandwich was like a Mercedes Benz S550 off the show room floor that needs nothing added to it. Sandwiches are always great taste and quality. However my issue is with the business practices. I tried to call on phone to order a sandwich at 6:10 last night ...lines busy ...phone is off hook....drove there and approached counter to ask if I could order a sandwich....it is 6:31 ...and girl at counter asks a worker " Are we taking anymore orders ..."? Worker inquires " For Who .?". She points to me ....and worker "Says No!" .... making it quite obvious that Someone could indeed put an order in ....Just not ME ! My co-worker challenged me to try the roast pork sandwich here and even offered to pay for the sandwich (a hair under $9) if I didn't think it was better than D'Nics or John's Roast Pork in Philadelphia. So on Superbowl Sunday, my wife and I stopped by this sub shop and tried the Roast Pork Supremo and the Philly Cheesesteak. Now whether you're in Philly or New Castle, DE, the key to a good roast pork sandwich is a good recipe, the highest quality ingredients, and good bread. Ioanonni's has all of them, but I would put it a notch below Philly's top sandwiches. The cheesesteak was a couple of notches below John's Roast Pork's cheesesteak. JRP is meatier, better quality steak, and the roll makes the sandwich. Since my first trip there, I've been there a few other times and tried the Roast Beef and the Paisano. So, despite my love affair with Philly sandwich shops, I'm convinced that Ioannoni's is the best in the local area and comes close to the best in Philly. read more

Not sure if it's new staff , new cooks, or new ingredients but the quality was less than average. No where near the quality, tastiness and authentic sandwiches we usually drive 30 minutes to pick up. Best sandwiches in the area, and possibly the best Italian sandwiches in the state! (If you like an Italian sub, order the Paisano with homemade long hots; the capicola and prosiciutto are excellent and the aged provolone is awesome.) They are best known for their hot beef and hot pork sandwiches, which are the best available, unless you want to drive to Philly! Chicken parm supremo is also one of my favorites here. (So sad they dropped the peppers and egg sandwich, my mom loved them!) They recently expanded into the shop next door, and it's already full of loyal customers waiting for their delicious food! Had the Roast Beef Supremo: great bread, good beef and rabe, flavorless gravy (I never add salt to dishes and had to add a substantial amount; perhaps forgot to salt it that morning?). The comparisons to DiNic's are overwrought: although in the neighborhood of the same price, I found myself hunting for the beef within the bun; it was an ounce light or more from what it needed to be to balance with the bread. As above, the flavor paled in comparison, too. I had to get the Old Bay fries as there was a $10 minimum for using a card. I should be able to charge an $8.90 sandwich in 2017. Even in the last few years it seems card minimums are dying the death they deserve. read more

The infamous Pizanno hoagie- which never disappointed. This time however, it was not what we always got for decades. It was half the size in width for the same price. Also not as good. I think they really skimped on the grated sharp provolone. We will not be going back, or recommend. We drive 35 minutes to get there a few times a year for this hoagie. "What are you doing in Delaware?" I ask myself that often but that's beside the point. I'm there 40 hours a week and spend about an hour a day stuffing my face. Two of the five days I can count on consuming a turkey and cheese sandwich, another day some ramen noodle, and another some leftovers from my prior night's dinner. One day a week I usually "treat" myself to some local cuisine (I say "treat" tongue-in-cheek). Something interesting I've learned in the two years I've been exiled in Delaware is that everyone knows everyone, and mostly everyone is related. With that said, the food has taken on that same sort of familiar characteristic and no matter where you go it stinks. It's hard to find anything with a unique and quality taste. Delaware has to be one of the fittest states in the Union since there is nothing to eat. Ioannoni's is the exception. It reminds me of South Philly favorites like Shank's or Primo's. They do an excellent job of recreating Italian Philadephia favorites from chicken cutlet to roast pork and provolone (mild or sharp). It's the only place I know I can eat at in Delaware that won't have me spending the rest of the day on the toilet. read more

I visited Ioannoni's today for lunch. I knew it was going to be good when I turned into the mini strip mall and parked next to two county sheriff patrol cars. The Law always knows the best places to eat! The Yelp reviewers have it right .... The Pork Supremo (sliced roast pork, sharp provolone, broccoli rabe, white sub roll) is fantastic. The sandwich was juicy, the meat tender and lean, and the flavor was outstanding. The 10" sub is just right for a hungry adult. Well worth the 15 minute drive from downtown Wilmington. I need to seriously review my thoughts prior to eating here about where to get the best roast pork sandwich. The Pork Supremo was excellent. Excellent. Served with sharp provolone, broccoli rabe (long hots added). I am salivating as I write this review over a week later. I often complain about balance in a sandwich; I like to be able to taste everything that goes into the sandwich equally. There was a perfect balance of roast pork, peppers, cheese, and rabe. The juice soaked through the roll just enough without the sandwich falling apart. Good bread too, crusty yet soft. I also tried the Beef -N- Stuff. This is a roast beef sandwich with au' jus and stuffing, very tasty. I am pretty picky about stuffing and I am happy to report this is well seasoned, flavorful stuffing. This is a heavier sandwich and glad that I was splitting the sandwich with two other people. While both sandwiches that I tried were good, I think I'd have a hard time ordering anything other than the Pork Supremo in future visits. This might be my favorite roast pork sandwich ever, I feel compelled to confirm this thought by doing a pilgrimage through roast pork joints in Philly. read more

I've been coming to this store for a while. I have eaten a number of sandwiches from here and they are all good. The roast beef is cooked in house. None of the sliced lunch meat stuff for the roast beef sandwich. Their Italian subs and cheese steaks are great! The roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwich is the best you will have south of Philly. As the advertising states, they are not just your ordinary sandwich shop. The chicken cutlet with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe is a nice alternative when you don't want to eat the pork or beef version of this sandwich. If you decided to visit during lunch, make sure to call ahead because this place gets packed! Overall, this is a high quality sandwich shop. read more

Took a cool ride today, down into Delaware, in search of a good Cheese Steak Sub. I had read about Ioannoni's on the web, and here on Yelp, and wanted to give it a try. We arrived, parked the bikes and wandered in. At first glimpse, it was evident that this was a serious sandwich place, but surprised that it has such a small dining area (go early or take it out). The counter goes the entire length of the store with a huge flat top, tons of prep counter and bins filled with specialties. There was a huge, freshly roasted roast beef on the counter with a bark that just oozed goodness to the sight. The owner, Mike, greeted us with a huge smile and a welcome and told us that this would be the best experience we have ever had for lunch. I opted for a "small" Cheese Steak with Lettuce and tomatoes. Ted ordered the Meatball Parm. They were huge, over stuffed, on the real Italian rolls that were so fresh that I swore they had baked them there this morning. The Cheese Steak Sub weighed in at what seemed a pound or more. The meat was excellent and the cheese was just right. The tomatoes were fresh, and I mean, farm fresh, as was the lettuce. It has to be the best cheese steak I have had in a very long time, if not ever. I managed to eat the entire sandwich at one sitting. I could not put it down. Ted's meatball parm was also excellent with provolone cheese. He polished it off as well. The aroma of the cheese, sauce and meatball brought aromas of an Italian kitchen in South Philly. Wonderfully pungent We sat and watched the place fill up, to standing room only, as Mike and the girls prepared sandwich after sandwich. The line went out the door, but nobody was complaining. That's how good the food is here. I will return next Friday for the roast pork with sharp provolone and brocolli rob. Mike was making a dozen or more and he loads them with the pork and spoons on the a jus instead of dipping them. I give this place my highest reccomendation, and if you follow my reviews, that honor only goes to the best. So, now I have finally found the best cheese steak sub for 100 miles and I do not have to look any further. Michael, you were right. It was the best thing that I have eaten and a great experience.
