Blue Hen Salad somehow manages to taste even better than it looks, which is gorgeous!

My family was driving from Virginia to New York. As we approached the Delaware/New Jersey border, I was looking for a late lunch and afternoon caffeine combination. When I saw the perfect rating on Yelp, I figured the 8 minutes added to the trip were well worth it. We left the highway and for the first few minutes, I was wondering what we were in for. Then we hit New Castle and the cuteness was turned way up! Quaint streets led to what seemed to be a historic downtown. (Likely because it is) Parking was relatively easy on a Saturday afternoon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Mercury Cafe itself is awesome, you enter in the side of the building after walking down a cobblestone alley. The cafe is clean and truly a vibe inside. The decor is great and the bathroom was very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were friendly across the board and they were working in unison to get the orders out. I knew I wanted the Blue Hen salad and a coffee and while I was in the bathroom, my teenage daughter added the soft pretzels to her grilled cheese sandwich. Glad I didn't veto that move! They use a local roaster for their coffee and I enjoyed it quite a bit while the food was prepared. We ate our meal in the car, let's just say that didn't do it justice! I wish we had taken the time to sit down and savor the excellence that we were served. Upon opening the to go box, I was struck by the vibrance of the Blue Hen salad. Absolutely gorgeous, plentiful and delicious! Everything went together so well. My older daughter helped with the soft pretzels but I was still able to supplement my salad with one outstanding pretzel stick and cheese dipping sauce. Certainly loved the half grilled cheese sandwich that my daughter shared with me as well! Truly glad that we stopped at The Mercury Cafe, already hoping to return!

This place has impressive food and its menu features healthy and tasty vegetarian food including breakfast. My favorite entree is the breakfast burrito with fruit, while the egg Sammy is also delicious. The merc melt is a great spicy choice for lunch. I always get the tomato basil soup. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is relaxed and encourages you to speak with people even if you haven't met them before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can stay overnight next door which is owned by the same people, walk out the door, and into the cafe.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A very quaint little coffee shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a lot of great food. The espresso was smooth and well flavored. You cannot get half decaf half regular unless you want four shots because they automatically do two shots for every espresso. I purchased an espresso macchiato which they made pretty decently, but the presentation was poor. The staff was average. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was quaint and nice with lots of different private sitting areas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They did not offer any almond milk at this site only oat milk and cow milk.

We love coming here when we want a little escape. The food is creative, fresh, and tasty; and the coffee, espresso, and tea is downright delicious. There are multiple seating areas, all which have their own vibe. During our last visit we started indoors by the plants then moved outdoors to finish our drinks. It was so relaxing. It can get busy and as the food is made to order, may take a little time for your food to get to you. Go when you have a little time and can enjoy the experience.

Talk about a rare find! This place is located in historic New Castle. It's tucked away, but clearly there are many people who frequent this place on a regular basis. I went with a friend who said this place was amazing. I didn't realize that this place was a vegetarian cafe and tea shop. There are plenty of options on their menu that will satisfy your needs. They even have specials, not sure how often they rotate them. The service was amazing. The food was just as delicious. I went with the grilled cheese and upgraded to the tomato soup for my side. The grilled cheese was served on yummy sourdough bread. The tomato soup was thick but great for dunking! I ended up getting a raspberry crumb tart for dessert.

The Mercury Cafe and Teashouse was such a pleasant find in historic New Castle! This vegetarian cafe offers smalls bites and shareables, salads, bowls, sandwiches, vegan options, beer, cider, coffee, and even a tea section in the rear where you can also purchase house blended tea leaves and local honey. We came here for a later lunch, and we ordered: +Bavarian Pretzels - five lightly-salted pretzel sticks served with a cheese sauce and hot honey mustard that uses local Ft. Casimir honey; the pretzel sticks came out hot, and they were super fluffy and had a slight crisp exterior; the cheese sauce was so good! +a Pulled-Oat "Pork" Sandwich - pulled oat pork, housemade mango cilantro slaw (which we got on the side), red onions, Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce, and vegan mayo on a vegan brioche bun - this was actually my favorite! I don't eat pork anymore, and you couldn't taste the difference - the texture and the taste was on point! It was the perfect amount of sauce, and the brioche bun was fluffy and soft +a cup of latte - comes in 12 or 16 oz; came extra hot, which I appreciated You first order up at the cashier/bar area, and they'll provide you a number; you find any seating and your order will be brought out to you. There were many who were dining in, but also patrons who got their orders to go. We also checked the tea blends and purchased a bag and some local honey. Staff were super friendly and welcoming! This is located in an alley, but there are signs to lead you; it's not far off from the main sidewalk. Plenty of parking in the area. +great vegetarian cafe! +offers vegan options +Bavarian Pretzels! +Pulled-Oat "Pork" Sandwich +friendly staff and service! +plenty of parking in town

What a lovely place. The ambience is charming. The food was divine as was the service. I love it! I can't wait to visit again. We shared the hummus platter. My husband had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I had the impossible burger. We were so impressed.

Well, last night my plans were to enjoy an amazing meat-focused dinner at one of New Castle's restaurants but upon arrival there was a small note that they were closed ... oh no!!! What to do? I had the taste of that delicious meal in my mind ... So, when you can't enjoy a meat-ladened meal that you have been focused on what do you do? You head to the amazingly special Mercury Cafe and Teahouse where ALL is VEGAN!!! Not a speck of meat nor dairy to be found but you will be guaranteed an incredible meal with superb service ... and let me tell you the truth, you will not be missing your meat-focused meal! On each visit to The Mercury, I have been absolutely impressed with the warm "Cheers-like" welcome from the staff members. You order at the counter or now you can use your phone with that QR code thingy but believe me you will enjoy the banter at the counter with those who run this truly special eatery right on Delaware. We walked into the tight quarters of the front end of the restaurant to be greeted with smiles from customers and staff alike. This was a 'deja vu' moment again because on the first visit the experience was identical!! One of the customers said immediately, "YOU HAVE TO get the nachos!! They are soooo good!!" So, nachos were immediately added to the meal's evening. I had previously tried the "Pulled Pork" and loved it but since I was in such a carnivore mode I went for the extremely popular 'THE BURGER!' And believe me it was tasty, flavorful, yummy, cooked to perfection, and delicious ... so you might say that I liked it and odds are I would order it again should I return! That's not to put down the "pulled pork." The homemade chips were fresh and great! The salads are also amazing here but that should not surprise anyone. I love that there is a water spout in the dining area to fill your glasses of water. Oh ... almost forgot those nachos! Let's just say my finger was in the basket getting the last tastes of a very fresh and really good special of the night. Then again ... I have found THE MERCURY SPECIAL on each visit! But, then there's the patio outside ... the backroom comfy dining area ... and then of course all the wonder of New Castle! So, if you are hungry for meat but can't find a place to truly feel at home head over to THE MERCURY and enjoy an amazing experience ... you might even decide to become Vegan ... well, I haven't but THE MERCURY is definitely now on my list of FAV locations to enjoy lunch or dinner (Note they close at 8pm).

Really enjoy HH at Mercury - good food that is changed periodically and good beverages - highly recommended! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is quiet and casual - service is excellent![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Our daughter introduced us to this gem when we were visiting from out of town, and we enjoyed lunch on the patio. Everything on the menu is delicious, including the vegan options. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is quaint and cozy[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and we wished we could have gone back for dinner. We look forward to visiting again!

I paid $21 for a breakfast burrito and an iced coffee. I'd pay $50 the succulent meal I just ate. It was perfect.

It's on the first floor of a hotel. We were greeted then shown to the restaurant. We had reservations at 6pm and sat down immediately. The vibe in the restaurant was great. We were greeted immediately by our server and a trainee. I ordered an old fashioned and my wife ordered a specialty cocktail. Both tasted great however, wait for the drink was excessive. The bar had an afterwork crowd and it appeared a bit understaffed. For my meal I ordered grilled octopus for a starter and I think it was one of the best I've ever had. Tender, savory with a really flavorful sauce. My wife had the Ricotta focaccia. Loved it. For dinner I had the pasta with mushroom and truffle. It was amazing. Temperature was perfect. It was hot, creamy and amazingly flavorful. My wife had the bream fish dish. She enjoyed that as well. For dessert we had the almond/chocolate tort. Very nicely warmed with a rich chocolate flavor to end the meal. I'll be back for sure.

He was overseeing that meals were prepared but I kept thinking he was arguing with someone. My easy peasy drink was great. The flourless chocolate cake was good. I was told cheesecake ok. The price was moderate, but I have paid a lot less for a lot better. When I read how the meals were prepared and ingredients I thought we were headed into a very special dinner. I hate writing negative reviews but I did teach cooking when I was younger and have certain expectations when I am going to a now celebrated restaurant.
