Traveling for work with 2 dudes, I knew I had to feed them something good. When I told them we were going to a place for lunch that served sandwiches on paper plates, they were skeptical. But of course, I won them over. I ordered a roast beef with cheese and peppers, the other 2 ordered a philly cheese steak and a meatball sub. Let me start with the fact that the small sandwich is actually huge. Its a big-ol-sub! The meatball sub looked the best to me, and my coworker was very happy with his selection. There were 4 meatballs and they were very large! He said it had good flavor. My other coworker got the philly and he was concerned that since we were in DE, it would not be good. However, he was thrilled. My sandwich, however, was disappointing. It was overly salty, i don't know if it actually had cheese on it and they forgot the peppers. I eventually asked and was told to just take them out of the cold fridge that was in the lobby area. The peppers are worth the extra $1! The seating inside is limited, there are 3 tables with 4 chairs each. At lunch time, its hard to find an empty spot, which is a good sign. They have soda in bottles as well as a customized Coke machine (LOVE THOSE!!). lots of chips to choose from to go with your massive sub. Overall, I would still send people here. read more

This is a great sandwhich shop right across the street from William Penn High school. I've been going here for years and my orders are always great. It's really hard to do a good broccoli rabe and here it's perfect, no bitter or grainy taste and one of my favorites is the chicken cutlet supremo. Their cutlets are nice thin pieces of chicken, breaded, seasoned and cooked crispy just the way they should be. My dad absolutely love theirs pork sandwiches and my coworkers like their Italian subs. So it really doesn't matter what you're looking to try it's all going to be good! It can be hard to get through on the phone to order during the busy times so be prepared to wait during lunch/dinner time. I was kept on hold for 25 minutes so my wife decided to call to see if there was a problem with the phone. They continually put her on hold, they finally picked up my call and I asked them why I was on hold for TWENTY FIVE MINUTES, she said you called from another phone and laughed about it. Bathroom was out of order. No place to wash hands. Soda machine had broken ice maker. Tables were dirty and we had clean them ourselves. It took 25 mins to get 2 subs. Finally dont have to drive a hour to go to Philly for a good sandwich. Tried Ioannoni's for the first time and it's easily the best sandwich/sub shop in Delaware. Got the chicken cutlet supremo since they are out of Roast beef right now due to the shortage. Was a delicious sandwich, nice sized chicken cutlet. The cutlet was nice and thin so it wasnt tough in certain parts. The broccoli rabe and sharp provolone enhance the sandwich. I saw pictures online and even on yelp that they had seeded rolls. I was hoping I got that since they seem to be nonexistent in Delaware. Nevertheless the roll I got was great as well. It wasnt a soft little flimsy roll like Serpes. This was a semi tough roll that holds up and doesnt fall apart when you eat it... Perfect. Also tried the gravey, definitely not your canned Gravey on thanksgiving. You can tell it was homemade and it was great. Came back a second time and got the roast pork supremo. Was phenomenal, nice juicy flavor. Highly recommend coming here. read more

Just an update: STILL the best! Tried the Italian hoagie....the best I've ever had....eaten them my whole long life...that means something. Only problem I have is choosing. I get 3...yes 3 sandwiches from here so we can all share a piece of all! The only way! First time I visited Ioannoni's was with my husband. I got the pork supremo and he the chicken supremo. We both are broccoli rabe fans. I LOVED mine. Perfectly made and brought me back to my childhood pork sandwiches. Needless to say hubby started gloating that his was the best sandwich he ever had, roll perfectly toasted, chicken moist and crispy, broccoli rabe cooked perfectly. I've lived in delaware all my life 4 miles from this place.. And i drive past it and never heard of it. Not one of my friends have heard of it. Now i see on "eat this not that" it's the "best Sandwiches" in Delaware. So i went there. I ordered there italian roast beef, my girl ordered the roasted pork. I had to tear off both ends of my sandwich since it was just bread. 2 inches off each side. It was like chewing soggy beef jerkey. The girlfriends pork she said was too dry.. maybe if we mixed them together they woul've fixed both our sandwiches. And $27for lunch with 2 drinks. But again, i've never heard of this place. Excellent sandwich! Stopped by for the first time today and wow this place is excellent. Ordered a medium Italian sandwich. Deck should have ordered a small. They piled on the meat and the sandwich was twice as long as I expected it to be. Probably weighed a 1.5 lbs with all the meat. It had 3 layers of cheese and all the veggies. This place was good. We were doing work in the area and stumbled upon this joint. I am a bigger fan of the roast pork, but the beef Supremo was also tasty. Today the lady hung up on me "3" times and that was after being on hold for about 12 minutes (between the 3 calls) .. so I ordered from Caproittis down the street. I would suggest ordering at 11am sharp ( Mon.-Friday) to have any shot of a noon pick up. Once your there the folks seem very helpful and tend to be hustling getting orders out.. All of the food is typically well prepared with one small exception , --if your picking up just before closing time then your possibility of lower quality, qty, or being out of something --- gets higher. I typically get the pork supreme-o which is an excellent item, unfortunately it tends to be in the thinner side when it comes to what's between the bread--I.E. I visited Ioannoni's last week with my mom for lunch a week ago. I'd noticed it on the way back from another outing a couple of days prior, and my mom told me that she's been there several times before with my grandparents, who are fans. Intrigued by a sandwich shop that can hold its own against stiff local competition of Capriotti's, I asked if we could stop by, and my mom obliged. Given that I don't eat beef and that I've tried Dinic's famed roast pork sandwich with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe in Philly, I was curious to try Ioannoni's version ($8.90), so that's what I ordered. Unlike Dinic's version, the bitterness of the broccoli rabe didn't overwhelm the flavor of the pork, which was a nice change. The roast pork itself, which was savory and tender, was complemented well by the cheese. However, it was too juicy/greasy, to the point that the juices soaked through the bun and dripped off the sandwich as I ate it. My mom's roast beef sandwich ($6.10), on the other hand, didn't have that problem. Between her enjoyment of it and its status as a customer favorite, I confident saying that it was good even though I didn't try it. Overall, I was pretty impressed by Ioannoni's sandwiches. Given that I'm a critical judge of sandwiches due to the high standard set by Capriotti's, this is high praise from me. The prices are reasonable, the quality is good, and the staff is friendly, so stop by and give it a try if you're in the area and are hungry for some lunch! read more
