From new babies to geriatric animals they continue to be top notch in diagnosing and treating their patients. They also explain their findings and recommendations for treatment in an easy to understand way and do so with a real kindness and concern for both pet and owner. They probably aren't the cheapest in town but you get what you pay for if you wanted the cheapest you probably wouldn't recieve the best care. We recently had to put down one of our dogs. The staff here cried with us and sent us a card signed by everyone telling us how sorry they were for our loss. It's great to have people that make you feel like more then just a number. People that make you feel like your pets matter to them too.

The doctor and staff were so kind. I could not have asked for anyone better to deal with the situation. They let us have time with our cat to say goodbye. When my daughter starting crying they have her a cute teddy bear to comfort her. Amazing!! When it was time to pick up his ashes they were in the beautiful wood box and it was engraved with his name. We also got a clay ornament with his paws and name on it. So as I am driving home crying I walk in the door and in the mail was a beautiful card from the doctor and staff all with personal messages from each one about our loss. I was absolutely blown away!! My usual vet was short staffed so they referred me to VEG ER for Pets. When I came into the hospital I was a bit frantic explaining what had happened. The intake person was so calm and nice. The vet tech was also very nice and asked if I was comfortable holding my dog because if I wasn't she could get someone else to do it. Dr Sands was awesome and explained that my dog would be okay and that he just needed to continue taking Benadryl. I'm so thankful that VEG ER for Pets is open 24/7 and in the West Des Moines area so I no longer need to drive all the way to Des Moines for 24/7 emergency care. I'm a little obsessed with the health of my dog and worry about every little thing so you will likely see me and my pup in the future! A staff member arrived for something else, and she reluctantly agreed to release the dog. (nobody explained there was a pickup time only in the afternoon, they just said I'd need the ticket to claim her) I got her home, and it was obvious she had not been provided adequate options to poo. She immediately did 3 dumps worth, clearly backed up for well over a day. Aside from that, I would not use this clinic because of the cloying/overpowering fragrance spray they use. Being in the lobby is a battle against nausea and a race against the clock to get out quickly because of the smell.
