This is my favorite ramen place at the Jersey Shore! I always get the spicy miso ramen which is perfectly spicy (I have a decent spice tolerance) and tender pork belly. I stopped in on a rainy Saturday afternoon passing throught headed to south Jersey and they place popped up on my yelp as a recommendation. They are located in a shared parking lot with Starbucks and another business at a major intersection so they are pretty accessible. Upon entering, My group of 4 was greeted right away, and there was only one other party I could see in the dining room. Next, the interior was definetly cozy on our winter day and appears updated and clean, with plenty of space to sit patrons. Now to their food menu and what we ordered- Hot green tea ( seems identical to the one from Costco), apple juice for a kid ( served in a large glass ) and 2 other fountain drinks. Since everything is prepped in their back kitchen area, there's no way to certainly prove the coscto theory or if they use cans for drinks. No qualms, but authenic loose leaf tea would bump up my review. We ordered shumai, the pork bun and 3 of the different ramens. All were good, but the vegetable ramen was my favorite. The food was great - we had edamame, age tofu and four bowls of the vegetarian miso with different toppings. The bok choy and broccoli were perfectly cooked, the broth had great flavor and depth, and the noodles were also perfect. This is a legit ramen joint. The ramen is authentic and amazingly delicious. Even for takeout, I was very impressed with the food. That being said, it was a satisfyingly filling bowl and you can customize it a la carte with the same toppings as the ramen bowls, I opted for bok choy on my Gyu Don rice bowl. Btw, it's a solid 31/2 stars but I rounded up to 4 Stars due to their friendly service. I have come here for business luncheons as well as catching up with friends. It's a great spot because it right off route 35 and you can obtain free Wifi since Starbucks nearby. The place has the typical picture of The Great Wave off Kanagawa, the Lucky Cat waving as you enter and depart, and beautiful wall art calligraphy. Upon entering, a staff will show you to a table and you place your order with them. If you and your party are in need of paying with separate credit cards, let them know ahead of time. Today, I had a luncheon date with my hubby and we ordered their lunch specials at $14.99 each. We were entitled to an appetizer and an entree. Please keep in mind, if you should be offered tea, they will charge you $2 per cup. They tend to forget to mention that when they ask if you would like tea or water after they seat you. We ordered aged tofu and ginger wings as our appetizers and tantan ramen and kakuni ramen. Our appetizers came out fairly fast and here's what I noticed. Their ginger wings were fried drummettes with ketchup with sriracha mixed in. It is deep fried and I was expecting wings and more ginger taste to them. Very disappointed and do not recommend. Their age tofu were delicately fried but I noticed the top was a whole sliced tofu block. The sliced tofu underneath were broken like a jigsaw puzzle. This dish lacked enough dried bonito flakes. I was disappointed with this as well because it's not that hard to slice blocks of tofu. This leads me to feel they used tofu that were broken from another dish. For my entree, I ordered kakuni ramen. It had a generous amount of pork belly and black wood ear mushroom which gave it a very nice umami flavor. The spicy broth was very developed and the egg was not overcooked, thankfully. I only wished they would include some bok choy. Regardless, this was a win and highly recommended. My husband's entree was tantan ramen. That is ramen with spicy minced pork sauce. I found the bottom noodles to be gummy and stuck together. I used my chopsticks to try and really mix all the pork sauce, cucumbers, and scallions together but the bottom noodles would not come apart. Even when I used a fork, I could not separate these noodles. I finally told my husband to use my ramen broth to help soften the noodles up and hopefully be able to pry them apart. He was careful not to put too much broth in otherwise it would be a ramen noodle bowl instead. I tasted his dish before and then after the soup broth was added. I would honestly say if it wasn't for the broth from the kakuni ramen, I would have to say his dish was bland. His entree was said to be spicy. I didn't taste any spiciness at all. Personally, I don't recommend the tantan ramen. While everything was very priced for its quantity, some of their items were hits and some were misses. I have had their chicken kara age, pork buns, vegetable gyoza, edamame, chashu fried rice, ippin ramen, and kakuni ramen which were hits. Their misses which I have had were ginger wings, veggie ramen and their tantanmen. Finally we presented with the check. The young lady apologized and indicated they were having problems today with their machine and asked if we could please pay in cash. If you pay in cash, you do receive a discount of 5%. Whenever I am on this side of Monmouth County and in desire of ramen or charsu fried rice, I would not hesitate to frequent this establishment. The storefront itself is nothing special but upon entering, you'll find a spacious dining area that is minimalist, decorated with simple wall art, composite wood floors, pendant accent lights and dining furnishings made of wood whilst top pop hit music emits from overhead speakers at a comfortable level can be heard. The menu is comprised of appetizers such as Age Tofu, Bao's, Chicken Wings, Takoyaki and Karage. Entrees available are various common ramen and rice dishes that are typically served in Ramen eateries. A lunch menu is available from 11:30 to 3:00, which offers a pick of 1 appetizer and and 1 entree from a limited choice. We chose as appetizers, the Age Tofu and Ginger Wings. For entrees we went with the Kakuni Ramen and the Tantanmen. The Age Tofu is lightly breaded and fried, served up with tempura sauce and katsuabushi (fried fish shavings). When eaten all together.... wonderful! The Ginger Wings were nothing special. It's fried chicken drumette's served with ketchup/Sriracha sauce. Pass on this one. The Kakuni Ramen was flavorful. The soup base was rich and a bit sticky, a result of long slow summer of pork bones. Spice level was enjoyable. The ramen, a bit chewy...not in-house fresh made. The Kakuni (spicy roasted pork) was tender, slightly spiced and flavorful. The Tantanmen soup less ramen topped with spicy minced pork. The noodles were warm but dry and clumped together. Using some of the soup broth from the Kakuni Ramen, I was able to loosen the clumped ramen and integrate the spicy minced pork together. I would not get this and would stay with the ramen in broth. Overall, my experience at Ippin Ramen was good. Was it the best...no. Was it the worst...no. It's ok for central NJ. IMHO, better ramen/rice dishes/curry/apps can be had in the North Brunswick/New Brunswick/Edison area. To each his own and YMMV! read more

For lunch, they've got a great special where you can combine a starter and entree for $15. I usually get the Ippin or Miso ramen topped with extra chashu for more protein. The chashu is super tender and delicious. I've tried the chicken before, but the meat wasn't as good. Service is always really quick too. There are very very few ramen places in the area. On the outside, the place isn't very inviting, we were very doubtful of how good it could be. The inside is better, though for a Saturday night, was pretty empty. I believe the restaurant is Chinese owned, like most Japanese places in the area. We ordered the pork gyoza, which, I'm not sure if it was because we were starving, was really good. The ramen came out and I demolished that as well.
