This isn't really a complaint, but I'm giving three stars because they need to wake up. I would never eat inside this restaurant again the way they allowed it to become a giant food storage takeout locker room type restaurant. It doesn't look clean anymore. The main entranceway is just filled up with people sitting around waiting for takeout orders The hibachi table is used to stacks of boxes of crap and food. It looks entirely dirty and unhealthy and I don't understand why these people aren't trying to do some kind of renovation or think about the way they present to their clientele that is fairly loyal. I came here for lunch while visiting a friend in town. This place is such a gem! I ordered their bang bang shrimp and yaki udon and they were both delicious! My friend got their various sushi dishes and they were not only yummy but also looked great! The place also has parking. The restaurant looked clean and the service was great! My parents and I had a marvelous meal at Sansu this evening! We ordered several types of rolls, and enjoyed eating them off a big boat in the middle of the table. I had ordered the RFH Bulldog Roll on a lark, since it's my alma mater, and we all decided it was our favorite. Besides the food, the service was great and it was a nice atmosphere. Every roll I've ordered here is SO good - I always leave with a food coma. My favorites are the Caterpillar, Sweet Heart, and Angel rolls... but everything is good. Portion sizes are extremely generous and the fish is always super fresh. My fiance loves the hibachi here - awesome that it comes with veggies and fried rice. It's a great value for dinner and so delicious with the hibachi ginger sauce. Definitely recommend for delicious sushi. Owners are super nice also and service is fast :) read more

The spicy tuna roll wasn't at all spicy enough to cover the off-flavor of the fish. Service seems to go to great lengths to avoid actually serving their clientele. After hearing about this place from a number of other friends who visited NJ... I most certainly had to give it a try! Pleasantly impressed! FOOD: One thing I despise is when sushi is basically a large roll of rice rather than accenting then bringing out the wonderful fresh flavors of the fish. I really liked how Sansu's rolls really focused on the fresh seafood. There were a wide array of sushi rolls to choose from as well. They had the classics, but also so many other special sushi rolls you can't find anywhere else. The special roll menu can only be seen if you come in so make sure you do that! Deciding on just a few was so difficult... but all of the rolls I got to try were delicious! Presentation of all the rolls were absolutely beautiful as well. SERVICE: fast and friendly... Our waitress always made sure to stop by every now and then to see if everything was okay and needed anything. Hearing from friends, they give out free traditional Japanese marble soda's to the children and sometimes free appetizers if you sit at the sushi bar! I'll be sure to sit at the sushi bar next time... and bring a little kid with me so I can steal their marble sodas... those are delicious! PRICE: The prices for the sushi rolls were all very reasonable. They have some great coupon deals available on their website too... I am most certainly going to take advantage of those next time! :] ATMOSPHERE: extremely spacious, roomy, clean, and beautiful! One of the most uniquely decored Japanese restaurants I've been to. We've lived in town for 3 years and FINALLY decided to give this place a try. We ordered take out on a Sunday evening, 3 difference rolls, a tempora dinner, and gyoza. Everything was delicious. Sometimes fried foods get soggy when you take them to go, but Sansu staff poked holes in the container to let the steam escape. We will definitely be back to try more items from the menu. The restaurant inside is much nicer then the generic building exterior. I was very surprised when I stepped in to pick up our order. read more

Second time getting delivery from 3 miles away. Don't bother with anything cooked from this joint. The $25 steak and shrimp entree had no seasoning whatsoever. How about a few herbs or garlic or "exotic" Asian herbs that one would expect with a $25 meal. I could mince up some fresh garlic, mint, lime leaf, cilantro etc from my own kitchen. This place is delicious! It's about time Fair Haven had it's own Sushi/Hibachi place. It used to be Charlie's Fish Market--and from the looks of it from the inside now, you would have no idea! The decor is gorgeous--it's really something you should check out just to take in the beauty of it. My favorite is the stained glass landscape backdrop behind the sushi bar. Food: melt-in-your-mouth sushi. Literally. I have been here many times now and I am always amazed by the freshness of the fish. The tempura is always perfectly fried--just crispy enough that the pieces flake off in your mouth. They recently added pictures of their new special rolls in the menu, and I love this new feature. It gives you a great idea of what you are about to order and whets my appetite before the food even comes out. As for specific rolls, my boyfriend (who is a little wary of raw fish) loves the new Maui and Lobster Dragon rolls. Maui is tempura shrimp roll with strands of crabmeat all topped off with coconut milk sauce. The lobster dragon roll is so good--I always steal a few pieces from him. haha. It's made of fresh pieces of lobster mixed with a spicy sauce and topped with avocado. My personal favorite of the new ones is the tuna ceviche: spicy crabmeat with avocado wrapped in tuna. Mmm mmm good. My boyfriend and I have been coming almost every week now. We just can't get enough! We just went again today for their Black Friday special and had a great time. The waitstaff was very friendly and the hostess came around several times to ask how we were doing and offered to refill our beverages. I'm actually Japanese and so I can tell you from personal taste, experience and living in a Japanese household that this food was very legit and very well made. The sushi menu was fantastic and creative and offered a variety of things you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. It was obvious by looking at the restaurants awesome decor, and the food, and variety of colors that was present in the food that there was a lot of time and effort put into this meal. This is the second time I've been very ill from their food. Within 30 minutes of leaving the restaurant I was doubled over with cramps and immediately sick with an upset stomach. I couldn't have grabbed the bottle of Tums fast enough. I ordered hibachi here so maybe that did it. But I don't even have a sensitive stomach. I've never experienced such instant gastro pain from a meal like I did from Sansu. I should've taken a hint that the place is ALWAYS empty around prime dinner time. Good grief! read more

Sansu is the Friendly's of Japanese. I don't know which was more bland and mediocre,... the food or the service. In restaurant-rich Monmouth County, there are much better options. I will not be returning to Sansu. I went with several friends this past Friday night. We were seated quickly enough, despite not having reservations (which, now that I think about it, should have been the first sign of things to come). The menu came with pictures of all the food, ala Friendly's. I went for the hibachi chicken and vegetable combo. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Just very bland, plain, and nondescript. The hibachi came with the obligatory soup and salad. Both were unmemorable. The hibachi had no taste to it, and the fried rice was just plain fried rice with no veggies or egg in it. I ate the whole thing because I was starving, though. The most disappointing part of the whole meal came after I finished. I realized I wasn't served the sauces that usually come with hibachi. One other friend had order hibachi as well, and she got the sauces, but the server forgot mine. And that gets me to the service. Like the food, it wasn't good,... at all. The waitress served 5 of the 7 meals to the table, which were sushi, and never came back with the little soy sauce dishes or the other two meals. She actually took another order from the table next to us. And after we waited until she was done, to ask her for the dishes and the other meals, she was irritated and said, "yeah, I'm getting it, okay?" After waiting for over 20 minutes for the bill after the last person finished their meal with no sign of our waitress anywhere, we all decided that we wouldn't be coming back,... ever. If you still want to go, it's BYOB. Which is probably good, because that's one less thing for them to deal with. Oh, and that reminds me,... they didn't offer a bucket with ice for my beers.
