I see the negative reviews on here and was super leery when I went into this dealership almost a month ago to look at a new 2021 Outback to lease. My wife and I read all the small print on all the ads (what many negative sales reviews here seem to be missing- read the fine print folks! Know what to expect- never go blindly into a dealership) and were prepped for a long drawn out back and forth with a high pressure rep and ITIL Natels with us walking out. This wasn't the case. Chris met us outside the door and greeted us. She then asked "So I have an idea of what brought you in- but let's talk about what you're lookin for." We went to her desk and chatted she immediately let us know "I'm going to be very honest and straight with you." This was refreshing but I was still cautious. We told her we were looking to lease and she broke out a piece of paper and drew out/explained how the leases work- in full- small fine print and all! We were blown away. Cool- let's get into the nitty gritty. She asked us a number and I told her- she said "let's work with that." Now fellow Yelpers a word of advice- always go into a dealership with money to put down and this: a monthly number that you know you can afford at the WORST and one at the best. Figure the number will ultimately be in between and that is the magic monthly payment. This is where people slip up, and get super peeved that the dealership didn't match their number. Well they have to make money as well right? I digress. Once we had the number Chris asked us what we were looking for- we told her and after taking some time looking at a couple of models we decided on the Outback basic model after a test drive (also remember car buyers- only look at what you can afford- man I wanted leather but not in the cards this time- definitely next time!!). From there we go the trade in value on my poor old, tired 2008 Fusion S. When the number came back I was blown away at how much they offered. So I told them that was great number but they were not able to do my monthly number it was higher- I had already anticipated this and asked them if they could drop it, if I put money down today to make the lease purchase. After a few minutes Chris came back and said "We can absolutely do that!" Long story short: I got a great family ride for the price I really wanted that day and a rep who was awesome! As it was Memorial Day weekend things were crazy but the cat was supposed to be ready on Tuesday of the following week. Well- gotta love the MA RMV- their system crashed that day lol- we waited an additional day. Chris was amazing at keeping us up to date on what needed to be done, our paperwork was smooth with no hidden fees or anything. We got the car on that following Wednesday and well, have been traveling more than we have in the past year! Thank you Chris and Ira Subaru! Ask for Chris when you go in she is awesome! We love our Subaru and are thrilled that we received such great service! TLDR: we had an awesome rep, came in fully prepared with a down payment and read all the fine print. WARNING ‼ Went to Ira Subaru Service with a discount coupon for an oil change and to look at rear speakers n/w. After 4 hours waiting they came back saying that they would have to order a speaker and also tried to upsell on brakes. In the meantime, they said the oil change would be free because of the wait time. When I refused any other costly service, they made me wait another 30 minutes. Now 6 months later I go for another oil change with a different reputable company. They could not get the oil plug off because it was way over-torqued. Needed a special tool to remove as the bolt head was stripping. They got it off, but had to replace the bolt. They asked where the prior oil change was done. I told them and the manager said they do this when you refuse extra service. REALLY!!!! All Ira Dealerships should be shut down if this is a common practice. Absolutely Unacceptable! Manager showed me the bolt. I couldn't believe it. Makes me wonder if they even did the oil change. Now no one here can seem to reach the parts guy. I have been to this location for service a few times since moving to the area, and the experiences have ranged from bad to terrible. Most recently, I waited over 3 hours for routine service that included an oil change. Then, in the following days, the oil level warning light on the dash kept illuminating, and I brought the car back in--at the service center's behest--to have it looked at. It has been over 4 hours, and there has been no status update about the vehicle and neither the technicians nor a manager can be reached. This is a work day and I have to incorporate this unnecessarily massive, multi-hour undertaking into a schedule of pre-existing meetings and appointments. They also did not give me any kind of cost estimate when they took the vehicle. I have no idea whether or how much I will be charged for them to check the oil level warning light that they were supposed to have attended to when they changed the oil a week ago. I already had an awful experience with this service location long before the COVID-19 epidemic, so whatever issues they have with communication or organization or staffing did not originate with COVID procedures. I recommend finding a mechanic that you like and trust rather than going through this particular dealer for maintenance and service. read more

Edit per GM response: I understand the vehicle shortage, hence why I immediately drove a hour and half each way. That was not my problem. My problem was how two of your sales reps confirmed with me that the vehicle was still available (I read them the VIN and stock # to be sure) and the sales rep I met with mentioned no difference when we spoke during my drive over. It's not like it was sold that day, it was multiple days before I arrived. It was either a widespread lack of communication/organization, or you were dishonest with me to get me in the door. -------------------------------------------------------- A lot of unnecessary deception that ultimately wasted my time. Brought me to the dealership under false pretenses. Confirmed availability and quote with a sales rep (via phone & email) 1 hour before taking work off and driving over. Another sales rep called me while I was driving and mentioned nothing of availability changes. Got to the dealership and was told the car was sold days prior. Was given a quote for a different vehicle that had less features and was more expensive. After negotiations, I spoke with the sales manager and was told the new vehicle didn't actually have the features we discussed. At the end of the day, they strung me along with the hope I would settle for less. Worst experience I've had with a dealership and I recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

This is a long story so forgive the rambling on. But the best place to start is at the beginning. So I will tell my story and you can reach your own conclusion. In 2015 I bought a 3 years old Subaru outback from IRA. It was not cheap, but given it was in such good condition I didnt mind paying a little extra for the car, particularly given the mileage was so low. So I bought it, and drove it back to NYC. We were planning to move to the North Shore in the short term. So using IRA made sense as we would be local. Within a week of buying the car we had warning lights come on. A light which meant to indicate an unspecified problem with the engine came on. I looked it up and it was often associated with the fuel cap being put on too loose. But better safe than sorry, so we took the car back to be assessed. IRA found nothing wrong and reset the emergency light. I drove back to NYC. On the way back the light came back. Odd. I called up and told IRA. They said bring it back. I noted I was in NYC but I would bring it back next week when I would come back again to look at houses for the relocation. I did that. They looked at the car. They found nothing wrong. They reset the lights and gave the car back to me. Rinse and repeat. The problem could never be solved. What was worse the transmission seemed to be having problems at low speeds. IRA were kind enough to give me a loaner and keep the car for a more detailed assessment. I drove back to NYC again. Came back a week later. Now we had owned the car about 2 months. Long enough that I couldn't automatically give the car back under "lemon laws", but I could if I could demonstrate that the problems were the same unresolved initial problems. This is worth noting. So I return the loaner, and the guys at IRA tell me there is nothing wrong with the car. I drive it off and pick up the family with it. We head to the Northshore Mall to do a chore. The transmission fails completely. Car is immobile. IRA sends truck to pick it up. Family is picked up by "outlaws". IRA gives me the news. Yes the transmission has failed. Car isn't covered by warranty. Lemon law inapplicable because this fault is totally unrelated to the undiagnosed, unresolved faults I was having with the car before. They can't tell me what caused those faults, but they do not accept that it had anything to do with the problems which emerged on the day I drove the car off the lot. I checked with an auto lawyer. He told me that I might win, or I might lose. But the costs of going to law made it not worth doing. Instead I negotiated a discount on a new vehicle and cut my losses - I calculate I took a 4k hit. Why am I writing now? Because the battery has failed on the 2 year old "new car". I called IRA up to ask them a question regarding whether there is any warranty implication of replacing the battery. I've been to plenty of Subaru dealerships as I've traveled to service my Subaru Forester, and I've always had wonderful experiences. The service rep I was dealing with was very nice, so no issues there. To start, the service waiting area for customers is very dirty and small. Which isn't that bad, just compared to other Subaru dealerships I've been to it's just unfortunate. Now the waiting...every time I've been to Ira Subaru I've been assured I wouldn't be waiting too long so I've never made other arrangements or cleared my schedule. The three times I've been there, I've waited over 2 hours, once I waited 3 hours. When I went to pick up my car from service, they told me to come by any time to get it. When I was asked to sit in the waiting area, I ended up waiting for 2 hours just to pick up my car. And everytime I went to the sales guy for answers, he'd always apologize and just say, "it was busy." In addition, when I finally picked up my car after spending a significant amount of money for improvements, I immediately noticed that a couple things were stolen, including my handicap permit. I tried to speaking to the manager but I was told he wasn't available. Then I tried calling, and a few times I've spoken to the receptionist who assured me I'd be called back, and have even left a message on his voicemail and nobody has ever reached out to me. On top of very important items being stolen, my car was left a mess and I even needed to come back immediately after because my tire pressure was low. Never going back here. I suffered a total loss incident in October 2022, it is now March 2023 and my account still hasn't closed because Ira Subaru of Danvers has stonewalled the cancellations and returns of my warranty and GAP products for as long as possible. I called multiple times and left voicemails that were never responded to. I called again and ask the receptionist to put me directly in contact with someone, only to once again get transferred to someone who sent it to voicemail. I sent email and emails, adding more and more people to copy and never got a response side from the first email that contained incorrect instructions. After someone from Subaru Financing (Chase) helped me figure out how to do it online, of course it took Ira Subaru the full 45 (if not more) days to process it, and I still never received any communication from them. The Subaru Finance agent said this is extremely unusual and it should by no means be this difficult and it took us an hour and half on the phone in the middle of the day to try to get the request sent. Before going I called to make sure the used car I wanted to look at was there they confirmed it was. After much searching turns out they haven't even received the car yet and will be delivered in a couple days. So I looked at a couple other cars they had and liked one. When they came back with the numbers I noticed a $900 dealer prep fee, a 500 doc fee on top of a lowball trade-in value for my car. Basically this prep fee was for them to get the car ready for sale, can't believe they are passing that to the buyer. Ended up leaving as they refused to meet my low number for trade in. Ended up going to two other dealerships neither of them had this dealer prep fee. And both of their initial offers were 3K higher than Ira Subarus was. Thats a 4k hit if i would have made the deal, so glad i didn't. Advice to Dealship: Get rid of that Prep fee and Don't let Carmax down the street beat Your trade in value with a cash offer. read more

He is simply a smoother and sleazier version of a car salesperson. He browbeat us about the $3000 extended warranty (yes, $3000). After saying no 6 times he said "I guess you're the kind of people who want to waste your money on overpriced car repairs". Then we had to go over the purchase agreement for the 4rth time. As we started to write out the check I realized that on this last agreement the negotiated $2300 discount had magically disappeared. An accident, I think not. It was an obvious attempt to decieve and cheat us. I guess Ryan gets extra commission when he screws over the customer. From today on I am on a mission to tell everyone I know to never frequent IRA Subaru of Danvers. Footnote: I did reach out to the GM with my name, phone number and email. He never replied. My husband brought his Subaru here Feb 9th and confirmed the work they said needed to be done on Friday and was told it would be ready the next day. Saturday arrives and he hadn't heard from them and the service dept was going to close soon so he went to get his car and was told it wasn't even worked on because a mechanic had to leave and locked his keys and the part in his storage. They gave him a loaner and he's told it would be fixed Monday. He goes Monday after work and surprise it's not fixed and no one could call him and let him know that. They said it would be done the next day they didn't have the part they needed. He's doesn't hear anything from them. He's finally told it will be done Thursday on Thursday but he wasn't able to pick it up because of an appt. He calls today Feb 17th to see if his car is actually ready before going over there and is told yes. He drives over there pays the ridiculous amount and drives off and the engine light comes right back on. The whole reason he took it there! So now he's there again while the incompetent employees figure out what the problem is. Oh just to add when he was there to pick up his car Saturday before he knew it wasn't done another person was also picking up their car and went to start it and leave and the car wouldn't even start! So this place literally has your car forever and doesn't even fix it and gives it back to you with the same if not worse issues! It's a joke! I had a pretty bad experience here. It started off good... I found a used Subaru that I really liked-- just what I was looking for. I was able to test drive it on 2 different occasions and made the big decision that this was the car for me! I went through the typical annoying process of negotiating, moving money, signing papers, making copies, signing checks, visiting on 3 different days, and I was finally happy that the painful car buying process was over and I'd have a car to drive, and I thought the price was fair too. But the thing is, I never got the car. They were trying to sell me a used car without the title (which I was aware of), but they reassured me it would be in my hands in 2 weeks or less. I was so patient as I waited, calling and checking in every 3 days. Starting to get more impatient. Starting to worry. Then completely stressed and upset. After 3 weeks they told me - "yeah, ah, we can't sell this car". Wow, it was a huge disappointment, but also a serious waste of my time. I was furious. They wanted to find me another car, but I made it clear that they had lost their chance with this customer. Not interested in doing business with you anymore! Nope! The single worst consumer experience I have ever had to suffer through. Stay far away and take your business literally anywhere else. They are entirely incapable of doing even one thing with any sense of honesty or integrity. Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong, and there was no sense of urgency to make things right. They tried to inflate the price after we had an agreement, they made inexcusable math mistakes, they promised one warranty and then forced a lower one on me, and worst of all, they sent me home telling me my new vehicle had passed inspection, when in fact it had failed. From their apathetic salesman Leo, to the incompetent and obnoxious business manager Saena, to the schmoozing phony manager Josh, every member of the staff was a nightmare. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM HERE. I bought a used Nissan from Ira Subaru and they convinced me into buying the extended warranty. The extended warranty did come into use, but Ira never wanted to service my car! The warranty had no deductible if it was serviced at the dealership which was why I did not want to bring my car elsewhere. Unfortunately, ira gave me a hard time every time I called with an issue. Why sell someone an extended warranty and rave about your "awesome" service dept if you are going to give them a hard time every time they try to use it!? I now have been trying to get out of my extended warranty and have to go through the dealership to get some of my money back. Of course, no one has returned my calls for weeks! I went into the dealership and spoke with someone in the finance dept and they assured me they would be on top of it but once again have not heard from them. Although they may be very helpful when in the process of buying your car, they will not care at all about your business after the car is bought! --- UPDATE Tried calling the service managers number the past few days to no avail. Left a message and have still yet to hear back. This place is a joke! Called the warranty place and told them about my issues. Since the dealership is the one that owes me the money, all they can do is send them a message letting them know I ended my extended warranty early and that they owe me money. A new car should be a great experience. But it didn't work out that way for me at Ira. We got past the sale pretty well but got disappointed in the delivery. The Internet sales person turned us over to the sales department and all went wrong from there. When they sold us the car they boasted in-house plates and registration with the drive program and a couple of hours wait time. It took them 4 1/2 hours! They had asked me to make an appointment so they could have the paperwork prepared and the car ready. Well we were on time and the paperwork wasn't started and the car needed to go for everything. Cleaning. Plates. Tire pressure fix. Then back to cleaning because there was a stain (on a new car!!!) All of these things are done in different buildings. I have never had such an awful experience as I've been subjected to the last 7 months after purchasing a brand new 2018 Crosstrek from IRA Subaru. Within a month the touchscreen entertainment/navigation system was restarting itself while driving off and on and a few weeks later remained back-lit while the car was off causing the battery to drain. I called AAA and they came and jumped the car and I let the salesrep I worked with (Tanya) know about the issue via email to see if this was a known issue or I should bring the car in. She mentioned to do that if it happened again. Fast forward another month and it happened again, I brought the car into the service dept at IRA Subaru and they told me it was a known problem with some 2018 models and I should continue having the car jumped anytime this happened and I'd be notified when a recall / software update was available. By April, I'd had the car jumped another two times and now I had a new issue where it was just a plain black screen but backlit while driving - I brought it in again to the service dept and they changed a fuse but low and behold it's now July, and I've had the car jumped due to the same issue and brought it into IRA last night. Having kept all of the videos from the console malfunctions and showed them to the technician last night (I've also showed them the other times I've brought the car in to no avail) who was shocked Subaru had told me to keep getting it jumped and to come back today and they would replace the battery & install an update for the entertainment console. I left last night feeling like maybe this brand new car would be fixed (finally) - however, the folks helping me today seem to have no notes from the visit last night or any idea about this ongoing issue. We're now over two hours into the visit today and no one has been able to provide any update or explain what the issue is, how it will be fixed for good and what my options are if this happens again. To have a malfunctioning brand new car for 7 months now is just unimaginable to me (and against the MA Lemon Law). I have always purchased my cars new from other dealers and manufacturers and never, ever in my life had anything like this happen. I HIGHLY suggest if you are thinking of purchasing a new Subaru you look elsewhere (there appear to be many other Subaru dealerships in the local area) or if you're on the fence about the Subaru brand vs. others - go with the others. read more

If you want entertainment then you've come to the right place - this dealership clearly delivers a punch. Apart from the usual dealership tricks, like "this car hasn't been priced yet", "we can't seem to find the keys", "the car is in service", and magic overnight price hikes which warrants a report to the Attorney General's Consumer Advocacy & Response Division (https://www.mass.gov/how-to/file-a-consumer-complaint), they also cross some lines which should never be crossed. I'm very familiar with how the industry works as my father has two successful companies which provide custom bullet-proofing for luxury and mass-transport vehicles and I do sleeper car modifications myself as a hobby. I simply went there because my friend insisted that they want to give a car dealership a shot when buying a used car (against all my advice). So naturally, I was expecting all the usual tricks - what I wasn't expecting is the dealership completely ignoring my friend as a fit buyer. Some advice to this dealer: if you have a certain price in mind, then do you really care who's buying? Enter price negotiation after the first hour and decide if you have a fit buyer - if you don't, then just tell them the lowest price you're willing to settle at and give the buyer the opportunity to refuse. What this dealer actually did was run a train of lame car excuses on us on two separate occasions, without even getting anywhere near the price negotiation when the price on the website is clearly outside the legal limit by at least a thousand dollars. Congratulations - you've followed all the right steps for getting your entire dealership flagged with a Consumer Advocate and created a bunch of headache for yourself, not to mention all the time you've wasted. read more

Worked with a salesperson, Jack Jimenez, this guy is everything you want a car salesman to be. He is totally knowledgeable about these cars and especially the tech. He doesn't rush you and explains everything. Even 3 days later after the sale is over, when I had a question about something that I thought wasn't working? Another salesperson would refer you to the service department, but, not this guy he comes right out of the showroom and spends another hour with this "baby boomer" Just saying this is what a salesperson should be. read more

Good experience. Be sure to ask for Manny as the salesman. He's honest and helpful. We love the new car (our second Subaru, an Impreza). As for service, if you have to do things beyond the routine, get a second opinion. Ira's service and sales people explained to me that they do replacement rather than repairs, and so my $600 tailpipe issue (supposedly $600) was easily repaired by my local mechanic with a free spot weld of a bracket on the pipe. I will return for service and multi-point inspection and will let them do required replacements, but I will get a second opinion when needed. Subaru of America really backs their products, so be in touch with them if a large repair is required and you've stayed strictly on the maintenance schedule. read more

I arrived today for my appointment on 7/11/2020 at 7:45am. I told them I will be waiting for my car on the same day three times: 1.) when appt was made online 2.) when service advisor confirmed with me again on the phone 3.) when I arrived in person for the appt I waited outside the dealership (not in the waiting area due to social distancing) for over 3 hrs and there was no call. At around 11:19 am I called them back and they told me they just started working on my car and it wouldn't be ready until late afternoon. They only prioritized my car when I reminded them that I have been waiting since 7:45 am. Everyone that was there before me was already gone in the waiting area. I had plans to work this Saturday, now over half my day is lost. This is completely unacceptable! read more

Took these clowns 1 hour to bring coolant to the checkout counter. I hate to imagine how long it takes one of these scientists to service a car. Might want to think twice about going here for anything car related. If you're interested in wasting a day off waiting to make a simple transaction though, I absolutely reccomend it! Also brought in my car for a recall issue and they left a bolt loose on my center console. I hope their salesteam and follow up after sale isn't as bad as this. This is the WORST car Dealership I have ever dealt with. We had an appointment on Sunday only to show up sit there for 45 mins to be told that the car was sold. They said they had another car for us but it was up on the lift so they couldn't give us a price and they would call us the next day. That was four days ago I have called once my daughter has called twice I called again today spoke to Rocco the manager he told me oh I will call you right back that was at 10:30am this morning still no word. Worst dealership to ever deal with in my life. Do your self a favor and go to any other dealership other than this one. (Oh and we were paying cash)!! read more

Typical skeevy car dealership that will lie just to get you in the door. I was looking for a very specific car listed on their website as in transit (it is also, as of this writing a week later, still listed as in transit on their website). I emailed and asked when it would be in so we could test drive and go over specifics. They told me that it would be in the next day. Great, I set up an appointment. I get there the next day and am sat at some woman's desk while she ignores me for five minutes while typing on her computer. Then, very curtly, she stands up and tells me I need to talk to someone else. I am then guided to another salesperson. I have to start from square one and explain to her exactly what I want again. She scurries off and I wait for 45 minutes. She comes back with a set of keys and goes out to the parking lot with me (you can guess where this is going). She unlocks the car, I tell her that's not the car I am there for. She goes back inside, more scurrying around. They tell me that the car was just sold an hour ago but they can get me another. I entertain them just to see what they give for a price. It was actually decent. We talk my trade, we go over specifics, including the condition of my car since I had my company car with me and not the one I was trading. I explain that there are a few door dings, but other than that, it's in pretty much perfect shape. They come back with a number, I counter, they said that if the trade matches what I said, they will agree to it. Overall, I was there for two hours. I come back a few days later for them to value my trade. They cut me by $700 due to a single door ding. I told them that I disclosed it to them the last time I was there and I could see Dent Wizard working in the lot who would likely only charge them $100 to fix it. I was shopping around and also had to discuss things with my wife, so I told them I wasn't ready to commit, plus it was kind of shitty what they pulled on me. The salesperson then started to yell at me for wasting her time! I drove straight to North Reading after the ordeal. Their pricing was close enough and their fees were less than Ira's (seriously, watch out what they are charging for mandatory fees) so it was pretty much a wash. They also never lied to me, it was a much lower pressure situation, I was in and out in an hour, and everything was less scuzzy. I went with them out of spite. Thanks for wasting three hours of my life, Ira. Seriously, fuck this place. Go to North Reading or Wakefield (I've bought from both) if you want to leave and not feel like you need a shower after. read more

This is the second time I've used this Subaru dealer for service. The first time consumed almost an entire work day, which I wrote off as them being particularly busy as they were apologetic. However, I've just come back for a state inspection and I'm up to four and a half hours and counting, with no updates. I've had to cancel an interview. After my first appointment, the warning lights were still displaying on the dash, and I had to fix the issue myself. I can only assume that the slow pace is due to being chronically understaffed, since it's not represented in the quality of work or attention to detail. Just a wretched experience. Go out of your way to find a different service center. Driving an hour each way is still faster. read more
