This is the worst experience I have ever had. DO NOT GO. This is the first review I have ever written, but this experience was so incredibly awful I needed to warn other people from going. I got a manicure and pedicure. The pedicure was done incredibly poorly, and they randomly painted one of my toes a different color than the rest. It's just a pedicure so I tried to be easy going, as people are not always looking at your toes. But then the manicure. Oh my god, it was awful. It is the only manicure I have ever had which was painful. She kept picking at my skin and caused multiple of my cuticles to bleed. She kept poking at my cuticles after I told her to stop as it was incredibly painful. The manicure itself was lumpy and thick. To top it off, it was way overpriced and the technician was shocked I decided not to tip her. I have to find another place that can fix this botch job because I have a wedding to attend this weekend. read more

I bought the most expensive pedicure thinking it would be a good idea. The lady barely scrubbed my feet with the pumice and she put the timer on for a 20 minute massage. Not once did she massage my feet (which is the best part) , it was the mindless rubbing on the calf massage the entire time. . We all know those. My full set of nail cost 100$- the most expensive nails I'd ever paid for. No decor- just gel nails. The nails were SO uneven and the apex was completely off, so I posted a pic of my nails in a nail tech support group- none of those ppl could believe how my nails looked and the price. I tried to guide the lady working on my nails but it's obvious she doesn't know what she's doing. She also looked like the person in charge of the place b/c she was answering the phone. I've been here about 5 years ago multiple times but unfortunately they don't use the same techniques or put effort in what they are doing. For the most expensive full set gel and pedicure ($200) , I would NEVER return not even if it was half the price. I'm very sick of going to many nail salons and they just SUCK. read more

My daughter scheduled a regular pedicure with a gel manicure with a quoted price of $78- and a regular pedicure and a a dip manicure with a quoted price of $90- for an 11:30 am appointment for the two of us. We were seated for the pedicures upon arrival. My pedicure started promptly, however my daughter sat with no service and cold water in her foot basin while mine was completed. There was no massage what so ever to my feet or calves which is the best part of a spa treatment. Once my pedicure was done, I had to wait a half hour while they took a walk in manicure. During the wait, I observed that there wasn't any sanitation of the tools used in between clients. After the wait, my manicure began and my daughter finally got her pedicure started. The technician she had was very inexperienced and appeared to be of teenage years along with a sloppy application. Two of my fingers were lacerated around my cuticles from the used tools. Finally upon check out, she charged me $105- not the $90- quoted and my daughters charge $88- not the $78- quoted. This place overbooks, over charges and is not sanitary. Need I say more? read more

The salon I've gone to for the last 10 years changed ownership and I needed a change. Iris was close to home and had some good reviews- and a free parking lot- so I gave it a shot. Got a slightly upgraded pedi with some callus removal (they have several options) and a gel mani. I get a gel mani every 3 weeks so I know what to expect. Great experience. I had an appointment and they ran a bit late- they acknowledged it and I wasn't in a hurry. Everyone was friendly. Manicure was great. Because they ran a bit late, another nail tech started on my hand while my pedicure was being done. The salon was very clean. The gel manicure was pretty standard- except they provide a paraffin wax hand treatment at the end and a neck massage. Both felt great. My gel mani lasted 3 weeks and I have since returned for another. They have a loyalty program- get your card marked each time you have a service. I definitely found a new salon. read more

To clarify, I knocked one star off for fat shaming customers in Chinese, one star off for the rushed service, one star off for being racist, and another star off for not being too pleased with my nails. Okay so I came in here with my friend to try out a new nail salon and Rebecca was the one who did my nails. The whole process was incredibly rude and rushed with a lack of care. I was out within 30 minutes because Rebecca applied thick coats of gel to get it over with and she was rushing the nail tech (Amy?) to complete my friend's set faster. During our time here, 2 more customers walked in (not sure with an appointment or not), so there's around 4 customers in the salon with me and my friend included. They didn't know that I understood Chinese so I was able to understand the conversation. Rebecca rushed Amy as well because she said that the "fat customer" who came in is a talker and will be here forever. There was a clear disparity in the way they treated the white customers versus me and my friend who were both Asian. Rebecca was acting kind in a fake manner, but she referred to the customers who came in by their body types even though she knew their names since they appear to be regulars at the salon. Going back to my nails, she wanted to get me and my friend out of there asap because they want to get to the next customer, which is fair. I would be able to understand it if they provided equal and adequate service. My nails are fundamentally alright, but the coats of gel is uneven and lumpy. There's also bubbles on my nails which is apparent on some of my fingers as you can see in the photos. Additionally on my right pointer finger, she did not apply the coat well and you can still see through it. The fact that the lines aren't clean is unacceptable for a professional nail tech. Overall, my nails look okay from far away, like from a distance of one foot for example. Honestly, I feel like I could have done the same job at home :/ In the end, I kept one star because the price was decent for what it is ($30 + $5 tip with card) and that she added an accent color on my ring finger. If you don't want a rushed job with a mean/racist nail tech, look elsewhere. read more

Pictured is what I asked for vs what I received. Please, if you are unable to provide a certain request just say that, rather than charging extra for a botched look. I have been coming to this place for a couple of years, usually leaving at least pretty satisfied. My dip manicure usually cost between $40-$55 which is very reasonable. The pictured set cost me $70 and it's not even close to what I asked for. I honestly would've rather been told this isn't a style that you could accommodate, and I would've picked something else. This used to be my favorite nail salon prior to changing owners. Now I need to find a new place. They are not paying attention while applying polish and have smudged the paint job on my feet the last two times i was there. They offer what is supposed to be a relaxing massage of your feet as part of the premium pedicure but now shout & talk while its happening and are only 50% paying attention to the person in the chair. The last straw was my most recent pedicure the bowl was covered in wax from the previous persons feet. Rather than move me to another chair (they were all open) she expected me to be ok with putting my feet in the dirty bowl and didn't even plan to wipe it off until i insisted. I still can't believe that I am writing this review as for the past 3 and and a half years I haven't visited another nail salon but Iris. I have spread a good word for them and recommended it to many of my co-workers and friends .. But today I called later on the day for appointment at 6pm. Appointment was made. I arrived at the salon right before another client who also had an appointment for 6pm. Regardless that I was the first to arrive I was told to wait 15 min or come back tomorrow. I said I will wait. 15 minutes later the girl came with a gift card asking me to leave and come back tomorrow telling me that the person who was supposed to do my nails had already left for the day. I lost my time to drive and wait to just be told to come back tomorrow. I didn't accept the gift card because I am not planning to return. I am very disappointed in the situation. read more

My new go-to salon! I'm not from this area, so I've spent the last year trying to find a place to be my regular spot for nails without much luck... until now! The salon is very clean and the tools come directly out of sterile packaging, which is really important to me (and weirdly hard to come by with the last few places I've been to). For anyone who's seen A Promising Young Woman - I loved the manicure the actress had in the movie. That's what I asked Rebecca for today for my gel mani and she absolutely killed it! I have to update my glowing review from three years ago because this place has gone SHARPLY downhill. It has an awful chemical smell (much more so than other salons) and everyone who works there looks miserable. There's nothing personable at all - they hustle you around and try to get you out as fast as possible. More specifically, I had a negative experience yesterday. I arrived early for my appointment but they were running twenty minutes behind the time it was supposed to start. I understand, it happens. I show the owner my nails, and when it's my turn he yells "hey you" over to me. I walk over to a nail tech and she wraps my nails. Then the owner comes up and informs me that there will be an extra charge for my nail shape. I have long healthy nails that are filed into an almond shape. I stare. What? It's not even about the money, but about the fact that he had me trapped - my nails, which he saw when I walked in, are wrapped. I can either leave the salon with gross nails that were half soaked, get a shape I don't want, or pay more for what I came in for? I come here pretty regularly (it's my backup salon) and a month ago there was no charge. He starts telling me that his people work hard and he needs to pay them. I tell him I'm not debating that, but that informing me of an extra charge after it's already too late for me to make a decision is unethical and bad business. He tells me this is standard practice in all salons. I tell him that's objectively false given that I generally go to other salons. He tells me the prices were revised a week ago. I ask which story or excuse he'd like to commit to because they seem to be changing very rapidly. He was not interested in listening at all and was overall rude and abrasive. That be said, my nail technician, Joyce, did a great job. I think I'll ask my regular salon to try to hire her because with all the salons in Newton, I'm certainly never coming back here. read more

Visited this nail salon to have my sns powder manicure removed. They did a great job on the removal without damaging my nails or soaking them in acetone. I then had a regular polish manicure. It was ok but is chipping and looks a mess already and it's not even 24 hours later. Another plus is the massage given by Paul- awesome chair massage! Nails last a long time. Service is below par. I went in for a mani on a weekday, wasnt greeted. And the gentleman only asked me if i had an appt. (Ive gone here numerous times), i didnt have an appt so hes like "cant do" . He didnt apologize and was very rude. They dont put your hands in warm water before they cut your cuticles. And theyve trimmed my actual skin instead of my cuticles which caused me to start bleeding. All in all they do a decent job but theyre too rough and their customer service sucks. What a find! I had some time to kill in the area and really needed a manicure, so I just did the ol' internet search and found this gem. They were busy but managed to fit me in for a gel mani. I'm on week THREE and it's still going strong. Literally no chipping, none of the edges are even pulling back or getting caught on anything, which is usually what happens around this time. The paraffin dip was a bonus, and the back massage was just, the greatest surprise - I've never been to a place that does this before. It's not a long massage, but it's just enough. The service I witnessed was incredible. They were PACKED and everyone seemed to be taken on time, treated with courtesy and none of the employees let on if they were stressed out by the non-stop flow of customers. Iris Nails is hands down the best all around nail spa that I have ever been to. They do great work, are always creative and willing to help you choose the best colors for you but most importantly, they are really nice good people. There has never been a day that I walked in and not been greeted with warm smiles and welcomes. They make it a point to make you comfortable and pampered when you are there. Now to break down the services I've gotten: Nails: they talked me into transitioning from acrylics to UV Gel nails. It was probably the best nail decision I have ever made. They look natural and don't harm my nails but they make them stronger and much better looking. They grow out beautifully so what finally forces me to go in for a fill (sometimes 3 weeks later) is that I am ready for a color/polish change. They also have their uv lights actually in the working desks so the counters always look clean and clear. I have never had one of their manicures but they always look really nice and people seem satisfied. If I decided to get rid of my UVGel nails I would have no issue transitioning into their manis because they looks awesome Pedicure: this is their bread and butter. They have 5 or 6 different options ranging from $35 to $80(I think) and every single one is top of the line. I mean amazing, I'm going to fall asleep in this chair, please don't stop amazing. Every pedi comes with a nice scrub and a hot stone massage that is amazing. Some of the higher priced massages come with a dedicated 10 or 15 minutes of foot massage and reflexology that feel AMAZING!!! I never feel like I missed out or got duped for getting a basic but on those days where you want to splurge, you will feel like a million bucks. Even my husband makes sure to get his pedicure from iris every few months. To sum this all up, I love this salon. The employees, color selection and completed work are really wonderful and I look forward to seeing my friends at IRIS every visit! PS: you should really make an appointment. I have seen people walk in and be turned away because they were too busy to provide the standard of care that they pride themselves in. This is not a nail sweat shop. They take their time and do it right. The focus is quality not quantity. By making an appointment, you block that time out to be dedicated to you and that makes it a truly wonderful experience. Also, I read a review from a black woman saying that they are racist. I cannot disagree more. Everyone has always be kind and welcoming to me. I'm not sure what caused her to feel the way that she does and it is unfortunate that she did but I have a hard time attributing it to race. So I don't want to go into this prematurely but ...... I HAVE FOUND MY NEW NAIL PLACE!!!! I have seriously been looking around this area for at least a suitable nail place that can do the job and do it well. It is usually more pricy than what I usually pay for but if based on the area, it is comparable and perhaps even better here. I came in wanting a pedicure with gel manicure and it included a paraffin wax for my heels and they also paraffin your hands (so make sure to remove your jewelry at home!!!). I got a mini neck/shoulder massage while waiting for my hands to dry and it was awesome. It wasn't too busy so I can see the attention to the customer being very high so I hope it will continue on when they get more customers. I definitely tipped more than I usually do because the customer service was outstanding! A plus is that there's a parking lot- yay!!!! Cash tip only!! Everything is completely new. Even when they gave me flip flips to wear for my feet, I saw them cut the tag off. And afterwards you can pick up dinner or lunch at tri-city wings since its next door. Win-win!!!! read more

This is my go to spot. I come here every two weeks and I always leave very happy! Everyone is super friendly and they always make sure to do your nails the way you want it to be done. There is always free parking in the lot and it is super convenient. If you have a certain color in mind, just ask and their suggestions will always be on point! What I love about this place is that you get a complimentary massage along with paraffin wax for your mani/pedi! Their tools are very clean and sterilized and their nail polishes are top quality. I'm not sure if this place is under new management/ownership or what's going on. But as someone who has been coming here for almost 4 years religiously I am extremely disappointed in the customer service and professionalism lately. I called to make an appointment for a dip manicure and a pedicure specifically asking for Rebecca, she is amazing and the only nail tech I prefer to go to due to great conversation, she's friendly, funny and does my nails perfectly! Apparently she is no longer there so I asked just for a pedicure. I mentioned that I was unable to do afternoon appointments so the earlier the better. Whoever I spoke to on the phone said 12 would be the earliest she could do. Upon arrival to my appointment I walked in and it was a completely different staff and I felt as if I was in a totally different salon. No one said hello to me and they just asked me for my name. I said my name and mentioned that I was scheduled for just a pedicure that I called in yesterday and confirmed multiple times. The woman told me that they couldn't take me.... And to come back later. I was pretty upset given how many years I've been coming here and have never had something like this happen to me. I also mentioned that I could not come back later which was why i requested an earlier appointment to begin with and it was for a time that THEY told me to come in. I even showed her the call on my phone from yesterday regarding my appointment today. It really threw a wrench in my plans now I have to go find another place that will be able to take me today. I have a tight schedule so I made appointments for a manicure with a friend a day in advance. It was not for a busy time. We arrived ten minutes early and I had about 90 minutes in my schedule for the appointment before I had to be somewhere else. 45 minutes after our appointment time we were still sitting there. Never once did they mention it was going to be awhile. I left after they took someone before us for a touch up. I love Leisure nails but they were booked. I won't make that mistake again. read more

This review is for two separate disappointing visits. I believe in giving places second chances, especially when the location is convenient and past services have been great. 1) On Thursday, September 13 I had a scheduled appointment and received a rushed pedicure. The polish was not applied nicely and I had a smudged/uneven pedicure by the time I left. 2) On Sunday, October 21 (today) I had a scheduled appointment at 11:00AM. They clearly overbooked themselves because there were 3 people waiting for appointments when I arrived before my appointment time. It wasn't until I asked about a status update at 11:10AM that they said it would be another 5-10 minutes for two people and another 10-15 for me. This is incredibly frustrating and I ended up leaving because I did not have time to wait an extra (in total) 30 minutes or more for my scheduled appointment. I planned my morning around an 11AM appointment, so if they weren't going to be able to take me until 11:30AM or later, I would expect a phone call or for them to give me an update when I arrive. It was unprofessional and inconsiderate of their customers' time. Between the quality of their work and their inability to schedule, its time for me to find a new nail salon after going here for close to two years. It seems as though their standards have decreased over this time. Save your time and money, go somewhere else. read more
