I've been to Irish Kevins countless times for evening fun, but never had the privilege to eat there! I really tried to fit a second lunch or dinner in at Irish Kevins, but ended up not having time. If I had to pick a favorite snack, it would be pretzels - soft or hard, idc. These soft pretzels were unreal. Might be the best soft pretzels I've ever had and I am from Philadelphia where pretzels grow on trees. The cheese sauce was the perfect touch. We loved this place so much, we came several times during our Key West visit, mainly because of Irish Kevin, our entertainer who was such a total riot, and had everyone in stitches. He gets the entire bar involved for four solid hours, with no breaks, and packs out the bar, which is totally air conditioned cold, a needed reprieve from the heat and humidity just outside. Service was much improved since my last visit. The music scene has talented performers, but it just sounds terrible for some reason, probably due to the acoustics and the way they run the PA. This was my go-to on Fantasy Fest nights. Always lively but never too crowded. I always found a place to sit. My drink of choice was Smithwick Ale and there are various small plates, that filled me up but didn't load me down. It had a party ambience with live entertainment, which often involves the audence. Bars. Pubs. Saloons. Watering holes. When it comes to drinking in Key West, you name it, they got it. Walk along Duval and you'll feel like you're strolling through the cousin of Bourbon Street with all the spots you can pop in to grab a drink at. But which ones are really worth the liver damage? Well, one spot that truly takes the proverbial cake (or drink in this case) is Irish Kevin's. Now your first thought might be "That's an odd name for a bar." It just doesn't roll off your tongue...at first. You're expecting something like O'Leary's or O'Brien's or something with an "O" followed by an apostrophe. Not in Key West! Here, Kevin reigns supreme, and it all starts with the setup and size of the place. Don't let the name fool you because there's plenty of clovers and greenery scattered about. Don't forget to look up to see the Jameson bottle chandelier. It's incredible (plus you wonder if one guy drank all those bottles on his own...hmm). Compared to some of the smaller places, IK's also has plenty of table space. You can find room at the bar, the upstairs area, and even a little secluded section of seats a little farther away from the action. What action? The best action. Several (let's call them) performers will jam out (and thensome) on the stage that's front and center inside Irish Kevin's. The individual who happens to be entertaining will vary both in song choice and intensity. For instance, my coworkers and I strolled in on one of the nights we were in Key West and had New York Paulie tear us a new one. Five guys walking in at one time didn't bode well, but hey, I enjoy some good haggling. Our second and third experiences were much more tame and beer focused (and not focused on us!). In fact, the employee in the gift shop let us in on a secret that the fella on stage during our second time here was the original Irish Kevin himself! Cool stuff. The other cool thing is from a beer geek standpoint. These days everybody likes a little craft beer running through their blood. For me, if it's a local selection, I'm smitten. Irish Kevin's had a great assortment of Key West/Florida-based brews on tap giving me quite a choice to make. But where that nerdy beer aspect takes place is on the digital beer menu rotating between pages of sud options. It was powered by Untapped, the beer app you use to check in and rate what you drink (and you think there's a chance I don't have this app already?). I went for a Tampa Bay Brewing's Reef Donkey and with my check in, lo and behold my name pops up on the bottom of the screen. This was almost 4 weeks ago now so I like to think it might still be there, but either way, Josh G. had a little beer fame in Irish Kevin's (twice, actually when we came back that third time and I did it again!). Overall, Irish Kevin's is a blast. Most places in Key West have a little style or flair to them that makes them stand out, but Kevin's goes the extra mile by making your drinking that much more fun. So skip the bars, and pubs and saloons and the guy selling you some weird concoction on the street and head to Irish Kevin's instead. Just be ready for a little mayhem (and definitely a few laughs). read more

By far the best bar on the island! We actually went back after bar hopping at about seven other places. The vibe is an adult only atmosphere. If you get easily offended, this might not enjoy it as much as I did. The singer/comedian was amazingly hilarious. He was playing at 10:30ish, the first time we arrived and he was still there when we came back at 2ish. He played everything and anything requested, adding a hilarious twist unmatched by any bar I've ever been to. They serve food, but I can't comment on that. The closest that I got to food, was when I ordered a Redbull and the bartender thought I said "bread bowl"... that sounded amazing actually. The craft beer selection was that we found on the island as well. The specialty drinks, including the mojitos, were $10 each. In the end, just as we were leaving, Irish Kevin took the stage. So much fun. All these other reviews said everything I could've. Come here and enjoy a typical Irish Pub in a Caribbean environment. The drinks are nothing special, but you're not here for fancy concoctions or frozen drinks, they're elsewhere on the island. You're here to experience the live music which is more than just music. It was a standard bar with standard drinks and bar food. They had live music which was ok, but not as good as the music in the surrounding places. Our bartender was nice, but catered to everyone else. Perhaps we looked too young and she thought we wouldn't tip well? I'm not sure. We had to wait awhile for our drinks when seated at the bar, but other people just walked up and were serviced right away. We had 2 drinks and left. My boyfriend and I were trying to find a place to eat for about 30 mins because we couldn't agree on anything and everywhere had a long wait. Kevin's had just opened up, so we decided to try there. And we weren't disappointed. They had live music from the minute they opened, and he was great (kind of funny in a jerk type of way, but also a good singer who sang country music and requests). I wasn't really hungry so I just got an appetizer as my meal and my boyfriend got the the ruban sandwich. The food was PERFECT. The chicktatoes came with 8 and had a liquid like cheese in the center with the perfect crisp. And my boyfriend could not have been happier with his sandwich. It was huge with a lot of fries. The bar was packed so there was no time for her to really be friendly, outstanding and get to know us. Which is totally understanding. Plenty of people were getting appetizers or meals which looked good. They weren't 5 star entrees or anything. Typical bar food is what it looked like. They do not have any signature cocktails that I noticed. We just drank vodka with soda water so it was pretty straight forward for us. The joke is on you if you think this is an Irish pub! They do serve Guinness, Jameson, and fish & chips but that is about where the comparison to an Irish pub begins and ends. They have a live entertainer who heckles people as they walk in between singing country songs very loudly. We're in Key West about three times per year since we live close enough to drive down and Irish Kevin's is one of our favorites. The bartenders are fabulous and (impressively!) always remember us. The musicians are excellent as well. Stop by the bars and see Dana, Tarah, Jasmine and let's not forget Phil. Irish Kevin himself and Jeff Harris are just two of the great performers.
