This small spot was good but not the best. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and the mole was good but the chicken tasted like it's been sitting in the fridge for a couple days. It has that little fridgy after taste, but the mole sauce itself was delicious! My mom had the carne de res soup and that was a disappointing meal. (I forgot to take a picture so my apologies) but the broth was probably the only thing that was flavorful after we added a ton of salt to it. The thing that made the soup disappointing was the meat. It was so gross... my mom has worked in the restaurant industry for 20+ years and she said the meat was poorly cleaned. It tasted like old blood. The service was nice. It looks like there were two waitresses but only one of them was working hard while the other just talked to a (I'm an assuming) a regular. Since she was comfortable telling him how she parties and shows up to work hung over and what not. I found that extremely uncomfortable and very unprofessional. Now the girl who was working her butt off deserves a raise! She was cleaning tables, giving people their orders, taking orders, etc... meanwhile the other girl was yapping away. Great little neighborhood restaurant serving exceptional Mexican food just south of Grand Avenue and 15th Avenue. Actually recall walking here as a kid and ordering bean burros when the restaurant first opened. Irma cooks the food and the service is excellent. Had a customized breakfast burro with eggs and bacon with no potatoes. They brought the homemade green and red salsa that was very tasty. The place is small inside and the parking is horrendous. However, they are moving to a new location very soon that's supposed to be bigger, and with a bigger menu! The prices here are ridiculously cheap. I hope the prices stay the same at the new location but I wouldn't blame them if they dont. I ordered the chilaquiles with over easy eggs. With the tortillas had a little more of a crunch then being soggy. But the sauce was good and I even added chorizo to it. Chorizo is very good here! Nice and fatty. Also because its Tuesday, you can order a single taco for $1.25. Meat was okay though, not best. I like the asada usually more charred. This place absolutely deserves the amazing reviews. For starters, Irma is a delight. So kind and welcoming. She makes you feel at home the second you walk in. Such a positive attitude and excellent service. The food is amazing. My husband loved the Chorizo. I absolutely adored the huevos rancheros with red sauce. The red sauce is so flavorful. Love, love this place!!!! Found it on Yelp as a close by, highly rated location to an event we were heading to in the downtown Phoenix. So incredibly glad we came in and met Irma and her staff and shared breakfast in what felt like her own home kitchen. We were treated like family, truly cared about, fed like kings and it was awesome! The place is tiny, maybe seven tables at the most. To say the atmosphere is "casual" would be an understatement. It felt very much like family, not only Irma and the staff, but the other patrons as well, it's as if once you walk through the door, you've known everyone for years, everyone is instantly that type of family that you love to be around and it makes you feel genuinely happy. Oh, and you're all hanging out it grandma's kitchen. The food was stellar! We both had the Chilaquiles with chips and different salsas, yummmm!! There is absolutely no doubt that Irma has been cooking these same recipes for decades and puts love into everything she does. Her happiness, sweetness and personal attention is absolutely contagious, she feels like that grandma that makes you feel "home". The prices are ridiculously low. So low, in fact, that we simply paid more when the check came. Not because we had to, because it was genuinely worth it and appreciated! It's hard to beat the service here, it's basically like sitting at your kitchen table, with your grandma and favorite aunt in the kitchen and then asking if they can get you anything and ensuring you're 100% taken care of. Course, my grandma would never in a million years hand me a black sharpie marker and ask me to sign the wall, but Irma did :-) This is truly an amazing experience that you should NOT pass up if you have an opportunity to experience Irma's Kitchen. Irma herself greeted us at the door and gave us excellent menu recommendations. Food was delivered promptly, tasted incredible, and had both of us more than full by the time we were done. So we were expecting good Mexican fresh food. Especially it being a small family owned restaurant. I got the Huevos rancheros with green Chile, and scrambled eggs while my boyfriend got the chilaquiles with green Chile and carne asada which they put on the side instead of on the chilaquiles, no big deal on that but he said the carne Asada tasted almost as if they reheated the meat instead of it being freshly grilled. But we both thought the food was tasting almost soggy, and salsa looked like it was going to be good but had almost no flavor or spice. Service was pretty ok, no complaints. Nice family vibe! Super delicious menudo! The bowl is huge and steaming hot and really hits that comfort food mark for me. The tripe is soft but not gamey, and the hominy is the perfect amount of chewy. The corn tortillas served on the side were also warm and tender, not dry at all like what you'd get from a grocery store.
