I really hate that Yelp doesn't allow half star increments. The reopened Iron chef is not quite 4 stars but it's a bit unfair to give it 3. However, I had to make a choice, given that I've been a bit disappointed twice in a row, 3 it is then. The first visit, I had lunch special Thai eggplants with hot & sour soup. The hot & sour soup was delicious, although it's not the original SiChuan style. It substituted the signature day lily buds to golden needle mushrooms instead. It appears to be the Fuzhou style where the owner & chef are from, nonetheless, it's still very tasty. The Thai eggplants didn't come with any meat. I didn't know it's a vegetarian dish until it's too late, would have preferred to add some beef to it. The flavor was good but it's just too greasy, it sits in a puddle of oil as you can see from the photo. There are ways to make it less greasy but it takes efforts. Efforts take time & time is money, Apparently, this was something not worthy of improving when I brought it up. I kind of understand it but also felt disappointed at the same time. The second lunch visit, i ordered my favorite Japanese dish Unagi Don, I.e. Grilled eel on rice. I was more disappointed than the first time. The eel was barely warm, from the taste & texture, I felt it was precooked & microwaved upon order. The eel sauce was subpar & the slight fishiness further supports my suspension. This is a subpar Unagi Don experience unfortunately. I don't feel so bad now on giving it 3 star. I may return one more time to try out their sushi sashimi offerings, however, not in a any rush & not getting my hopes up either. read more

I sat down with my family tonight and ordered gluten-free for which I have celiac disease. Both my children also have celiac disease. When it came out, they said it was gluten-free. Fortunately, I have a gluten tester called LEO for which my food came back as gluten. I told the waitress and manager she went back to talk to the chef and they stated "we forgot to make it gluten-free. We're so sorry" This is unacceptable I could've become very sick! I could only imagine if somebody had a peanut or Trina allergy for which they could've gone into anaphylactic shock and potentially died. read more

In every town we have moved to or close to--CA, NY, IL, WI, CT, PA, MA--it is always important to find that family-owned Chinese restaurant that has: good oils, flavorful food, good selection, and classic favorites. We found it in Longmeadow--a mere 5 miles or so from our home: Iron Chef Asian Cuisine. It's just a humble little place in a strip center, but the service is excellent, the food, surprisingly delicious, and NO CANOLA oil for even the deep frying. We ordered Seafood Supremo and General Tso's Tofu. My husband was delighted with his seafood, in a rich sauce with vegetables, and my tofu is my new favorite Chinese entree--since I don't eat chicken, but love General Tso flavors. I have been craving scallion pancakes and have even tried making them, but they are not the easiest dish to make, and done right they are fabulous. So we ordered some as an appetizer, and these have to be the best I have had yet. They deliver a complimentary orange and those little fortune cookies, and then the meal is complete. We will now start going through the vast menu and trying other things--but these two meals were pretty unbeatable. read more

DELICIOUS!!! Iron Chef is located in a small plaza with ample parking. It's a cute little place that makes you feel cozy with its dimmer lighting and warm atmosphere. The waiter was quick to greet us and bring some ice water for both of us. The menu has a good selection of food to choose from. We ordered four rolls: Fancy Spicy Tuna Roll: Chopped tuna mixed with caviar topped with crunchy mix Valentine Roll: Salmon, crabmeat and avacado roll top with tuna Philadelphia Roll: Cream Cheese and Salmon Shrimp Tempura Roll: Crispy shrimp with avocado and cucumber All the rolls were very great, fresh and tasty. 5 Stars. 1. Delicious. I have only ordered from the "Chinese menu" so far, and I love the broccoli dishes especially and the wonton soup is my go-to for when I have a cold or am feeling down. I can't get enough of the vegetables here. 2. Consistent. We order from here all the time and have never been disappointed with the quality of an order. 3. Professional. The staff are quite nice and professional and take the time to get orders right over the phone. 4. The safety precautions at the outdoors pick-up table are also nice. Dined here for lunch with my sister one Saturday afternoon and we both left happy and satisfied. We were the only ones in the restaurant which was a little surprising but I think they do quite a bit of takeout service. One of the best Asian restaurants in our area for sushi, Chinese, Thai and Malaysian dishes. Food is well prepared, presented beautifully, very tasty and the service is spot on. Tom Yum soup outside of an authentic-Thai restaurant is usually a crap shoot, not here this soup rings most of the flavor notes of a superior Tom Yum and then some. Before you order the soup be advised it is fiery spicy!!! The House Special Duck is exceptional; the duck is first steamed then fried to crispy crunchy deliciousness with a very nice assortment of fresh vegetables enveloped in a delightfully tantalizing brown sauce. This restaurant recently came under new ownership (according to my parents who were quite tight with the former owner), so we came to see how they were doing. Happy to report that the food quality is still quite good and service was top notch (almost too attentive; more later) *We started with some steamed pork dumplings; came out really fast and really hit the spot. Not chewy or overcooked, we were off to a good start. *Ordered a salmon and spicy tuna roll; also, very impressed. Hearty, flavorful portions of fish without gross mayo squirted all over the top; wasabi has some serious kick, be warned! *I went with the Happy Family, a platter with basically all proteins imaginable. I couldn't decide on just one, so this seemed like a good solution; scallops, lobsters, shrimp, pork and chicken, with a brown sauce with plenty of veggies. While the proteins were good, the sauce lacked flavor for me; it didn't really add anything to the dish. I had to request some sriracha to make it more interesting; that's why they're losing a star. My parents were pleased w their dishes. *Waters were promptly refilled but there is such a thing as a server that is around TOO much; that was my issue with our waitress. We'd be mid-conversation, into the heart of the story and she felt the need to wander over and awkwardly check our plates and see how things were. Lady, just back up a bit. When we're all eating and the table it quiet, swing by; don't make me stop my conversation and make it awkward while you clear dishes. *They fixed their entry way since the last time I was there; before there was an awkward heavy curtain blocking the freezing cold air from rushing into the small dining area. Recently ordered Chinese food here. It was horrible. The chicken fingers were dried out and small. The beef teriyaki had a weird odor. To be fair, the egg rolls were good and my mother didn't mind her dinner (but I'm convinced her taste buds don't exist). I've ordered here many times pre-COVID and it was good. Maybe once real dining happens again they'll improve. But the takeout was awful. Like thrown away awful. read more

Consistently good food, nice staff makes this place a standard for me. They offer Japanese, Chinese and "South East Asian" cuisine (e.g. Beef Rendang, Eggplant Malaysian Style and Thai Spicy chicken/pork/beef). I've never had a bad experience either dining in or taking food out. The one down side is that it's tiny. They fit a lot of tables in there, so you sit pretty close to neighboring diners. During colder weather you also have to make your way through a heavy curtain that keeps the cold out. There are arrows directing you to the part, but you may feel a little funny pawing your way in. read more

Any place that sells sushi and Chinese cuisine automatically fails in my book. You can't have both and be 'authentic.' Buuuuut.... The Chinese cuisine here is delicious. The house special duck and ma po tofu were amazing. I licked my plate clean. I mean lick everything off my plate clean even though you're full. Ever had crispy duck in Chinatown in NYC? Yeah this place might be just as good. The fried duck was laid on top of a sauce sautéed with veggies. The duck wasn't overly fried so it was just the right amount of crispy. The ma po tofu was a little salty but it was so good. Now Iron Chef makes this dish vegetarian. Traditionally, ma po tofu is made with pork so when I saw it under the vegetarian section I was a little skeptical but I was really craving ma po tofu and figured cutting some meat out wouldn't hurt. The sauce isn't Szechuan style so it's not as spicy as the ma po tofu at Shu in West Hartford nor was it as oily BUT it still had a kick to it and I liked how it wasn't oily. The only thing I would change is how salty the sauce was. I thought the tofu would help but it was still a little too salty. I am so happy I found a place that makes a decent crispy duck dish. Came here on a weekend night to satisfy our sushi craving. This is the fourth sushi place we've tried in the area since moving here a few months ago, and it is our least favorite so far. Overall a decent experience, but there are definitely better options in the area. The restaurant itself is rather small, capable of seating only about 30 people when filled to the max. We were greeted and quickly seated, the staff quickly moved tables around the configure to the needs of guests instead of trying to cram more people into tight spaces which was greatly appreciated. The server we had was incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive, service definitely get five stars as does restaurant cleanliness. I ordered a Sapporo, because you kind of have to with sushi...and it definitely hit the spot, served with an ice cold glass. For our appetizers we had the miso soup which was decent enough and the gyoza. Out gyoza was terribly undercooked and soggy which was pretty disappointing. We then ordered a combination of nigiri and sushi rolls (including a hand roll). First, the tuna hand roll was interestingly prepared. While I was grateful for the LARGE amount of tuna it contained, the tuna wasn't really rolled into the hand roll at all, it was just sitting on the top, which means your first bite was all fish and your last few bites were all rice. The two larger rolls we ordered were on the bland side. Not bad, not good, but considering they were both "spicy" we were expecting a lot more flavor than what we got. The nigiri itself was room temperature which made me a little nervous to eat it, but tasted fresh enough. I also didn't get any ebi, given that other customers posted pictures of it being included in their deluxe plates I was a little disappointed. The meal was finished with a half of an orange and a slide of melon and fortune cookies. I also think the sushi combo meal is 1-2 dollars overpriced for what it is. Overall a decent experience, but considering the competition in the area, not quite enough to probably warrant a return trip. read more

My first hint that this wasn't going to be great was that it claims to offer "Asian cuisine" instead of a specific Chinese or Japanese or Korean not focussing clearly on one food type. For what everyone in the area referes to as "Chinese food" this place is not very "Chinese" (except for the staff). Menu has too many things from Pad Thai to Chicken Portabella?!?!? Apparently they do a good take out business but I suppose it's cause its the only place around and not because of the taste (or maybe because the customers there don't care or know about authenticity of the food). IT WAS GOOD when I went 5 years ago as the previous owner made more authentic food. now it tastes the same as any shopping mall food court "Chinese food". Noisy and not relaxed atmosphere as door opens and closes repeatedly as customers come in and out to get their take out orders around the seated customers. Hard to call this "cuisine". If you are nearby and need a quick gut filler, sure - drop in. But If you want truly enjoyable authentic Chinese food in a good atmosphere....keep looking. IMHO, If you want good "Asian" food, find a place that specializes in ONE type of Asian food - not all "Asian" food. read more

Scored a few rolls for takeout, service was quick. The inside and sushi bar area look like a nice, dark, quiet place to get lost in on a hot day with some rather good maki. One of their speciality rolls, the Kobe roll, is pretty unique - utilizing thin slices of lemon on the outside of the roll. I had never had such, so I sprung for that, a yellowtail roll and an alaska roll and was not disappointed. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The Chinese food as good as the Japanese. Its not BYOB anymore but the prices for the wine are not jacked up expensive so the whole meal is reasonably priced. I was very impressed with my first attempt at Sushi! However, there are some things that could have been better. First off, the restaurant as a whole is really, really small. We went on a Thursday night and had no problem getting a table, but we were rather close to other guests around us. It gave it a nice atmosphere, but if you are claustrophobic, I would look elsewhere. Second off, it is BYOA (Bring Your Own Alcohol). This is cool since there is a package store right next door with a pretty good selection of sake. The wait staff even asked if we wanted the sake warmed! I thought that was a nice touch. Third off, the menu was pretty awesome! There was Chinese food, Japanese food, and sushi/sashmi. Anyone looking for Asian food would be able to find something here. We went with ala cart sushi (octopus, eel, squid, mackerel, tuna, salmon roe and sea urchin) everything was prepared fresh by the chef who was prominently displayed at the back of the house. My parents live in Longmeadow, so I come to Iron Chef sometimes when I visit them. This is the best Chinese food in the whole area by far!!! Actually I think it's the best American-styled Chinese food I've ever had, IMHO. It's individually prepared and there's not a lot of grease or excessive frying. The portions are smaller than typical Chinese food portions, but the taste is much better!! Lunch specials go every day except Sunday until 3pm (soup/egg roll, entree + white/brown/pork fried rice for about $7), but the food is totally worth it without the special anyway. I haven't tried the sushi, but I heard that it's great too. The restaurant seating space is really small but intimate and clean. I like eating in or getting take out. The owner is super nice too. BTW - there's a $15 minimum to charge on credit. read more

Iron Chef has some of the best Chinese and Japanese food in the area. The place is tiny and there is often a wait on weekends. They have received a liquor license so it is no longer BYOB. They have a small but well chosen wine list and the prices are more reasonable than what you find at most other restaurants. Service here is attentive and the owner shows genuine concern for his guests. My favorite dish is Salt and Pepper style squid, something I haven't seen at other western Massachusetts Chinese restaurants. Local tip: Li Brothers is right across the street and is a good choice when Iron Chef is too crowded. read more

I'm going to be completely honest and say that I definitely created my yelp to write a review of Iron Chef. My first time at Iron Chef was over 8 years ago, and after a 2 year hiatus from sushi, I decided that if I was going to go back to eating raw fish in the Pioneer Valley area, that I would only go to iron chef. I've been going now regularly for about a year and a half and I stand with the notion that this is the absolute best sushi you can get in New England. I've recently been traveling a lot to San Francisco, eating only at the finest sushi establishments in the city, and I'm happy to say that Iron Chef could definitely be on that list too. Their fish is THE freshest and best tasting from New York City to Boston. Granted-I'm mostly only a Tuna and Salmon eater-but their spicy tuna rolls are the most delicious I've ever had, and they have this wonderfully slight crunch texture inside as well. When I go in for their (very inexpensive) 3 roll lunch special...I always get 3 spicy tuna rolls and even a special roll on the side. I make sure to go in with quite an appetite! I always make sure to get their crab Rangoon too. Pretty basic, but theirs is the only crab Rangoon in any Japanese/Chinese joint that I have ever been to that has not made me physically ill afterward. Yes. the place is small-but it's so charming! The reviews on here that give Iron Chef one Star for the space are just ridiculous. Sushi connoisseurs across the world know that the best sushi spots come in the smallest packages with the longest waits! (I do try to avoid Friday and Saturday nights because of the wait, but it's usually not more than 20-30 minutes in the times that I have dined in on those nights). One of the main waitresses isn't the absolute happiest she could be, but hey-I get it-you're not always going to be thrilled serving food to people in Longmeadow (one of the reasons I've avoided being a waitress myself!) I live in Northampton, a town with over 6 Sushi restaurants in a half mike radius. The only other sushi restaurant that can compare is Zen on Main St in Northampton, but despite that being the case, I always prefer to choose to drive a half hour to Longmeadow for Iron Chef. As long as I live in Massachusetts, Iron Chef will definitely be the place I will go to get the freshest sushi around. read more

To celebrate her last day of school, I took her and mom to Iron Chef. It was only my second time there; both were enjoyable. She did the CA roll, mom went for tempura, and I did an assortment of sushi. We were all delightfully pleased with our dinners. The place is rather small and was packed - you can view that as good or bad. Wait time for a table was a bit long, but if that many people wait, it must be worth it.
