Had a great time touring the Iron City Distillery and learning about the way they use all PA farmers to produce American Whiskey the way is was made in Western Pennsylvania before Prohibition. Very informative tour and knowledgeable tour guide. I would highly recommend booking a tour and tasting. Enjoyed crafted cocktails in the loft while listening to awesome live music. The sound system is fabulous!

The space is really well laid out with a great bar and great cocktail list. The bartenders were very nice and the service was great. I would highly recommend checking out the Distillery tours they are very informative and the guides are very knowledgeable.

Bringing Pennsylvania rye back in the best way. I love what Iron City Distilling is doing. They're focused on local rye and grains, and you can taste how much they care about getting it right. Everyone here is genuinely welcoming and excited to talk whiskey, which makes learning a lot more fun. The space is awesome too. Tastings, great cocktails up on the mezzanine, live music, tours, date night... it just checks every box. I always end up staying longer than planned. I'm especially pumped about their 3-chamber still and the distillate they're running through it. That mix of history and innovation is what makes them stand out. I come back every time I'm in Pittsburgh and I'm always excited to see what's new. If you love whiskey, or even just want a fun night out, definitely put this place on your list

A growing world-class distillery right on the Allegheny River! The team at Iron City Distilling is fantastic! They've warmly welcomed us every time we've visited, know their craft inside and out, and communicate it with passion. Their spirits are already excellent, and their dedication to quality and PA-grown heirloom grain shows in every pour. Between that distilling knowledge, local heirloom grains, and the rare Three Chamber Still, I'm completely convinced Iron City will stand toe-to-toe with any brand on the market once their ryes are ready. Even after nearly a decade as a 'whiskey enthusiast', I still walk away learning something new each visit. For those that geek out on the behind-the-scenes, they are 1 of only 3 distilleries in the world operating a Three Chamber Still (there's truly not much else like it). Whether you're looking for a tour, a date night tasting/pairing event, or just a cocktail on their mezzanine with live music, I couldn't recommend a visit more highly!

This is one of the easiest 5 star ratings to give. We very much appreciate the distillery's attention to detail literally from the beginning to end of the tour! This was our third outstanding tour and Dining With the Distiller was exceptional! Everyone was made to feel very special. The welcome drink, the fabulous meal, the tour and tasting, the best turtles ever, the wealth of information from Andrew and Matt ... amazing. Seeing the passion of Matt, Andrew and Peter is a total joy and we will be back. Iron City Distillery is creating an EXCEPTIONAL product and we are thrilled to participate in their events. We love the gift shop and always come home with goodies. They always go above and beyond!

Today, we toured the Iron City Distillery, and what an incredible experience it was! The adventure began with a sample of their gin, a perfect way to kick off the tour. From there, we explored the brewery, learning about its various operations. Interestingly, the building they now occupy used to be the PPG building. They moved into this location in 2017, having originally operated in Lawrenceville. Their former location, dating back to 1863, posed significant challenges due to its age and infrastructure limitations. After the brewery, we crossed the alley to the distillery. As we entered, we were greeted by the sight of whiskey pouring from the still at an impressive rate. The guide informed us it was Rosen Rye, a rare variety with only two other Pennsylvania distilleries--Stoll & Wolfe and Liberty Pole Spirits--producing it until now. I asked if they source their grain locally, and she confirmed it comes from Bob McDonald's farm, where 432 acres are dedicated to grain production. We learned that one of their column stills, featuring four chambers and made from German copper, is one of only three in the United States, with the others located in Colorado and the Northeast (possibly Rhode Island). Unlike their beer production, which is fully automated, their whiskey is hand-bottled and labeled. The distillery, which began operations in 2022, benefits from the expertise of master distiller Matt Strickland, who joined their team and also contributes to the distillery program at Point Park University. As an Associate Professor at Point Park, I'm currently exploring the idea of launching a similar program with a wine course developed and led by me. Next, we visited their rickhouse, which currently holds 1,650 barrels and has a capacity of 2,500--still smaller than Liberty Pole Spirits' storage. We sampled several spirits, including their heated bourbon, which offered soft notes of oak and vanilla at 100 proof--absolutely delicious. We also revisited their Maryland State Rye, which we've sampled and purchased before; it delivered sweet cocoa, coffee, oak, and vanilla flavors. The PA Rye impressed with hints of pepper, spice, and roasted malt, while the straight-from-the-barrel Danko Rye was sweet, nutty, spicy, and an absolute standout. We also enjoyed a treat: chocolate infused with their whiskey, crafted by Valos Chocolates in New Kensington, located just across the river from the distillery. To finish the tasting, we tried their rum, aged six years, with delightful notes of sugarcane, caramel, and vanilla. It was so good that we purchased a bottle. Due to their limited production, all bottles are currently 375ml, reflecting their status as a newer distillery. Iron City Distillery is a fantastic destination, and we highly recommend visiting. One last note our tour guide was amazing, she did a wonderful job, she knew all about whiskey, history and local. This was her second tour as she is involved with other areas of the business. From what I hear she's a mixologist expert and look forward to seeing her while tasting that in the future. In addition, they mentioned by 2025 they will have their outside amphitheater ready for concerts, plan to bring Alabama to the place. Such an amazing future here. Cheers!

I've been on dozens of distillery tours. I usually pick places that have impressive looking equipment, then during the tour learn that it started small and was acquired, invested in, and expanded by one of the large brands we all know of. Not so with Iron City Distilling. This place is different. From what I learned during the Dine and Drill experience, it starts from the very top and matriculates into the culture, business practices, and the products. Iron City Distilling is a special place doing something unique yet true to the heritage of the area. They use one of three chamber stills in existence. The new make spirit coming off of it was very different from others and I'm looking forward to trying it aged when it's ready. Matt Strickland was our tour guide. He's a respected industry veteran who's published several informative books on distilling and he was an excellent guide. The food was amazing as was the experience. Check this place out. You will not be disappointed.

I actually do not drink beer at all, but I visited Pittsburgh Brewing Company to attend the 3rd annual Iron City Car Cruise powered by MAXmotive. The event featured classic vehicles, a rib fest, food trucks, live music, and beer. I attended mostly for the barbecue, but I enjoyed the other things as well. My husband and I had to pay $10 to park our vehicle in a back lot. Then we walked past the music stage to the BBQ vendors and food trucks. We had arrived around lunchtime, and unfortunately we saw only three BBQ vendors who still had food in stock, and even they were out of some menu items. I bought a rib teaser from Obey's BBQ and a pulled-pork sandwich, cornbread, and mac n cheese from Jim's Smokin' Que. These foods tasted OK to good. As for the classic vehicles, I do not know much about vehicles at all, but I saw some that had interesting designs.

They have TVs displaying the production so if you were there on an off day, you can still see how it is made. At the end, we had a sample of every beer that they have on draft, which was really fun since I wouldn't ever try some of those on my own, but enjoyed them. Would definitely recommend!

However you have the option to have cart ride down. They have lights hanging and it's in the middle of the woods. It's very awesome and such a great idea. This is the second time that I've seen a place setup like this, the other time was in the Finger Lakes. It's a definitely different experience. I tried the bourbon, rye, spiced whiskey, slivovitz and blackberry rum. All of the whiskey was good. The slivovitz is a product that I do not see any local distillers ever making. It was nice to see this here. I was introduced to this 20+ years ago while tailgating for Steelers home games. I have to say what they had tasted much better. I ended up leaving with the Spiced Rum, it was good and different than the others. I had a mixed drink as well as my wife and we both enjoyed the drink and the location. They have a stream nearby. The seating is awesome, you can sit outside near the distillery, inside the woods, along the creekside. It's a very cool place and can't wait to go back again. I, however, tried again with my wife the afternoon of Friday November 13, 2020, and we both had the same experience with the manager. This time, I spent $300+ (receipt attached) but swore I'd forewarn all other YELPers considering a visit. I concluded this employee-manager MUST have a 'connection' to the owner, as NO right-minded business person would keep her around otherwise.
