Trusting Becker Autosound Cost Us $9000. A Six Month Saga…read more We bought a refurbished and upgraded PCM (stereo/ nav) from Becker Autosound to replace a unit that was showing signs of age. After installation we discovered that the Becker unit would not produce any sound. We contacted Becker and were connected with the person who had refurbished it, Tom. He blamed our installer. The installer took the vehicle back and attempted to fix but was unable to. I then brought the vehicle to a certified Porsche mechanic. He removed the unit, checked all the wiring and reinstalled. Still there was no sound. Upon bringing the vehicle home a new failure appeared. The left half of the screen went blank and what should have been displayed on the left side was now shown on the right. This impacted all functions; stereo, navigation, back up camera, etc. I reported this to Becker who took the unit back and spent a couple weeks evaluating it. The unit was refurbished again, which involved replacing a board or two. Once we received the unit back we had it installed again and the unit still would not produce sound. Becker took the unit back again, refurbished it a third time and charged the shop $800. Upon return the unit still did not work. Becker took the unit back and promised to expedite their evaluation. We heard nothing for weeks. Calls were not returned. Finally Tom called and said he could not repair the unit but would source another to refurbish as replacement. We waited several more weeks while they purchased and tested all the used units available on eBay. We were then told that Becker would not certify any of those units and would simply process a refund of our original purchase. With every eBay unit claimed by Becker our only option was to purchase a brand new unit direct from Porsche, fulfilled through Germany with a lead time of 2-12 months. Tom followed up repeatedly about refunding our purchase price while I took a couple of weeks to organize all the invoices. I sent them to Tom with a request that Becker cover four out of five of the installation costs incurred at Becker's direction. This still results in a $3600 loss for us. We are also left with an incomplete (not legally salable without backup camera) vehicle for up to 10 more months from the date of this review. I have followed up repeatedly over the last two months and seen no response and no refunds, even for the purchase price of the defective Becker Certified unit. If any of this sounds incredible scroll down to other reviews from customer with similar experiences, though I sure hope no one was injured as badly as we were. They immediately went to town on the truck! The leak was deep under the cab behind a bunch of components, but they managed to reach in up to their shoulders and fix it, pressure-test the system, refill and button it up really fast. One of the men was bilingual. the other was likely in the process of learning English from Spanish. As an English-only speaker, I could still understand both of them fine, but it helped to listen closely and carefully. They just asked me to do such things as start/stop the engine and toggle controls on the heater. I was really happy with the work they did, and will certainly recommend them to anyone having issues with a commercial vehicle.

Fair enough. 40 minutes later I get a call back from the same man who still does not give me their name and says "we are not going to jump you. Instead we'd are going to tow your car to our shop and replace the battery and alternator. When would you like to use your car again?" Me a bit stunned said "Oh, I need to use it today, that's why I asked for a jump in the first place." Again the unidentified man on the other end of the phone says "yeah we are not going to do that. So would you like us to bring it to our shop?" "No that's okay." I replied, "thanks anyways." He responds with a thank you and good bye. So they get 1 star for being polite and friendly but -4 stars for the naked up sell and refusing to do the job I asked. During the phone call I remembered my AAA road side assistance hadn't expired yet. Called up AAA and the car was back on the road within 20 minutes of me calling. I was able to get where I was going and hours later it started right back up again to take me home. All it needed was a jump and not a full reworking of the electrical system. So don't use this company instead pay for AAA road side assistance.

I had a leaking hydraulic master cylinder, hydraulic fluid was leaking on to the windshiel, making using the truck near to impossible. Called VIP and talked to the Manager Andy, who reassured me that if I brought the truck in, he and his team would be able to resolve the issue. So I brought the truck in the next day . His staff immediately greeted me and took the vehicle in, and started working on the problem. They took apart the cylinder and showed me the defective parts and issues. They repaired and rebuilt the cylinder in 4 hours. The service was superb. I had no downtime with them being able to repair the truck in one day. Some shops take 2 days to a week to repair. I highly recommend this shop, and I will be using them for all of my future hydraulic problems and issues. Thanks again, VIP, for the great service.

My regular mechanic in Madison, who had been helping me keep my 3000 mile Honda Civic on the road would just spit in a prayer for years finally gave up recently. "I'd put two bullets into it". He then got a quote for a transmission since there was mild slipping and quoted me $3900 from another transmission shop that he knows. He refused to discuss it with Me. I was unsure whether or not it really needed a transmission. So I went up to Green Motors on a very emphatic recommendation from a trusted friend. The most difficult diagnosis and assessment that a mechanic can render for you is when your car is at the end of its life. Same with doctors in a hospital room talking to the family and letting them know what their options are. Well, the car drives well enough for local driving as of this moment, due to Andy's detailed and shockingly candid assessment of the car, looks like I'm going to have to save up for a new car for Christmas. There are worse things in life. But as he gave me the rundown of the issues with the suspension the brakes and with the transmission, but turned both our heads around to face. The inevitable was that the amount and number of leaks from all aspects of the engine and other parts of the undercarriage really shared that even if I got a rebuilt transmission in the car, I would soon be dealing with something else. A blown motor mount. Shocks going out costing me $1000. The front brakes at $380. The car had a long life and it survived much, perhaps in the same way I have. But I don't want my life to end when the car ends in a multi car wreck because I was too cheap and too impractical to save up for a new car. Christmas is only three months away or so. I can do it. But what struck me about Andy is that he said they could install the rebuilt transmission for $3900 but he had no guarantee that anything else that currently might be a problem won't go wrong soon after that. Even once so far is to encourage me to consider that the car is driving well enough now, even with the minor slips that I could just forgo investing that much money into the car. As we discussed all the things that could be done with the car likely totaling well over $5000 or $6000, we both agreed to probably the best and most prudent approach would be to get the brakes done at $380. This is the first time I've ever gone to this place. They did not know me from Adam. And yet Andy took calls and text on his cell phone and was always engaging, informative, and pleasant. But more than that, any mechanic that tells you look if you invest this much money into this repair, you're probably throwing your money away is a mechanic you can trust. The garage itself appears modest from the outside and when the bay door opens, you look inside and it was a vast expanse of arguably 10 to 15 different stations and with quite a few valuable, expensive cars. People with that kind of rolling investment don't go to mechanics who give them the runaround or rip them off. The few complaints I read here on yelp about Green Motors certainly did not reflect my experience with them. And as I said to Andy, once I do end up getting my next car, even though I live down in Summit, I will come up to them for service purposes and anything else. That's about a 45 minute drive north. And that's not impractical - that shows exactly how impressed I was with the level of service, honesty, candor, intelligence, and frankly empathetic kindness to a man faced with a difficult decision, any unprincipled mechanic would've urged me to get all sorts of work done. They didn't. The governed as much by professionalism as conscience. Just the way any good attorney should be.
