You guys!!! Iron Wolf rocks!!! I am IN LOVE with the Hotscotch...it's whiskey made with pepper and butterscotch. It's so smooth and tasty on its own. The hints of sweet & spice hit just right! This is a small batch distillery and in addition to whiskey they also make rum, gin, and vodka. The distillery sits on 15 acres so there's ample space for large groups. Like most places of its type in hill country, they've got food trucks, live music, play areas for kids and they're dog-friendly. They've even got a bocce ball setup as well as other games of that sort. The tasting room is modern rustic, farmhouse-country chic and it's also pretty spacious. The craft cocktails are out of this world. My favorite is the espresso martini made with Hotscotch. Seriously one of the best drinks ever. My boyfriend really loved the old fashioned. There is a very comfortable indoor area featuring tabletops, comfy couch seating, and large screen TVs. For the parents looking for a day out, there is a play area for the kiddos. Leashed pets are also welcome at the ranch. Craft cocktails are featured here using their spirits. Our crew loved their Old Fashioneds, Espresso Martinis, Mojitos, and an Evervessant Gin Martini. All of our cocktails were expertly made by their mixologists. All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating, and we were treated like regulars on our first, but not last, visit. It was honestly terrible. We waited over 45 minutes for our food, and nobody even updated us. I politely asked, "Hi, I'm so sorry, do you know how much longer the food will be?" and instead of answering, they just started talking to other workers. The food wasn't worth the wait either. The pizza tasted almost frozen, the burger was really small, and the fries tasted like they came straight from the freezer. They weren't crispy at all just mushy. We stopped here on our way to a weekend vacation. There is a great patio and outdoor area where dogs and kids can run around. The interior is also spacious and cool on a hot day. The New Fashioned was delicious and one of their best sellers (for a reason). It had a little bit of sweetness with a nice spicy, cinnamon finish. A great twist on a classic Old-Fashion. A group of us popped in recently for a tasting and live music on a Sunday afternoon. The tasting was a lot of fun, Iron Wolf offers a lot of different spirits and several that frankly surprised me (Gin, Rum, Hotscotch Bourbon)). Seriously folks, try them all! Our group stayed for 2 craft cocktails and a quick visit to check out the cigar lounge but we would have enjoyed lingering as the outdoor area is large and welcoming with games, food trucks and ample parking. Months ago I called and purchased a gift card over the phone. I do not live in Austin, but my Uncle does and I was purchasing this gift card for him as a thank you for helping me move. I explained all of this to the woman I spoke with on the phone. She said it was no problem, they would put his name on the gift card and he could come get it whenever he wanted. Well, he goes in to get it, they say they have no idea what he's talking about and the manager is out of town so there's no one else who can deal with that issue. I then proceed to call and leave voicemails. I have probably left two or three at this point. I have also written an email to the email on their website. I have not received a response to any of these attempts to make contact. I have a bank statement proving purchase of sale. Not only very upsetting to have spent the money for him to not receive the gift card but also very upset with the lack of response after multiple attempts and different avenues to communicate. read more

Yesterday, I decided to do a day trip to Spicewood today. It was first to Krause Springs then found out Iron Wolf would be open lunch time. After a refreshing morning at Krause Springs, we headed to Iron Wolf Ranch and Distillery for lunch and drinks.  They have a wide variety of spirits with several award winning ones. Tiann was great in making our drinks! I had the New Fashion made with Hotscotch (a little sweet and spicy). My husband had the Luna-tic made with vodka and several fruit juices. We enjoyed the drinks while we waited for our lunch from Craigo's. We ordered the specialty pizza (sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms and onions) and barbecue wings. Truly phenomenal pizza and wings! We also had the Giddy Up Mary with horseradish-infused vodka and Wild & Tea, an Arnold Palmer with bourbon.  We'll have to come back another time for the tasting and meet Luna, a wolf adopted by the family (she's usually there on Fridays). This is some of the finest spirits I've ever tasted. Make sure you sample them all. I thought I didn't like gin. Their mixed drinks are great. My favorite is the 'new fashioned'. They have excellent music and terrific food trucks. I've always had an issue with the porta potties but they are building like crazy and are adding six indoor toilets I'm told. A good venue with the potential to be a great venue. Let's answer your most important question up top: Is there a wolf here? Only on Friday evenings. The owners have a wolf hybrid named Luna, but she's (he?) only there for happy hour on Fridays. Iron Wolf is aimed squarely at the "Rosé all day" crowd, with spirits such as butterscotch whisky or horseradish vodka and continuous top 40 country over the speakers. That being said, there's some legitimately good liquor being made here, most notably the gin (not overly floral) and the vodka (specifically the vodka flavored vodka). I was also pleasantly surprised by the rum, but Iron Wolf doesn't distill that on-site. Every single employee I ran into was downright welcoming, this was probably the most friendly distillery I've ever visited. Don't sleep on the food trucks either (Phoenix something or other?). Their breakfast was incredible, some of the best salsa I've ever had. Why not 5 stars? It seems like Iron Wolf isn't quite ready for prime time. There were a bunch of little inconveniences that added up. They had two bars set up, but only one bartender (?). Despite having two pretty large buildings, indoor seating is tiny; the distillery itself is sprawling, but when your only choice is to sit outside, you'd better plan on having great weather. As others have mentioned, bathrooms are at a premium as well. They trucked in a nice portable bathroom, which definitely helped. The second building looks like it's going to be a dedicated seating space (with bathrooms!) which should eliminate all of these issues, but that won't be finished until late August. We'll revisit in Fall and see how things are progressing! read more

We just did a tasting and I was not expecting that . It was so yummy. Very friendly people. Nice at home atmosphere. We really enjoyed the group tasting. It was fun hanging with everyone and hear what people like and have trouble drinking . We had vodka, gen, bourbon, scotch, etc. and we ended up leaving with a bottle of Hot iron. This is the fanciest metal building distillery I have ever seen! Very shiny stainless steel still, immaculate polished concrete floors, easily the fanciest metL building I have seen! And they have good liquor! The tasting is informative and interesting, even if all of the idetails on the fancy bottles is a bit overwhelming. But the real wolf is interesting. Try it al!! It's rare for me to take time out to write a bad review, in fact I always cringe when I read one. So, I will start with saying that this is my second visit to Iron Wolf Distillery with family. I liked it so much that we planned this return trip with in-laws, BILs, SIL, and kids too. We ordered a bunch of pizzas and wings from the food truck, but they don't sell drinks. Now, this is where the story gets a bit petty. I open a tab, order two mixed drinks and 3 sodas. I recalled from my first visit that the bartender pours the soda in a tiny plastic cup, keeps the open can of soda at the bar. This is Texas ya'll. We just drank all of our waters on the drive from the zoo in Johnson City. (No outside drinks allowed, anyway.) We could have eaten at a burger joint highly recommended from the staff at the zoo....n o p e. I wanted to show the fam IWD! So, I head back to the yard, tables under the trees in the Tx heat. I send my BIL, husband, and daughter to pick up more drinks for everyone else. They come back with teeny tiny cups, ice melting in the soda. No cans. When they asked for the full can, bartender gave them sass. Now, we ARE paying for the sodas. I wasn't requesting refills. I was ordering for the rest of us. Why bother with attitude? Why bother giving little cups of ice? Why were they so nice to me but rude to everyone else? Could it have been a skin color issue? They said, no. I called them out on their stinginess online. They tried to trivialize my complaint...instead of approaching the issue from a business resolution perspective. Rude, cheap people. To make a point, I'd like to mention that the previous visit I had charges from the food truck on the IWD property one month after our visit. I called them and notified them and they cleared it up, said it was glitch in their system. No big, $50-60 returned. So, I'm disappointed I gave them my time, my business, & fam members hated the experience because of how they were treated. Too bad cuz I like the ranch. I suggest driving past it, just further down the same road is a great vineyard. read more

We stumbled upon this sprawling alcohol paradise on our drive back to Austin from San Angelo. We originally stopped because the BBQ food truck they have on the premises is rated very high, but the liquor turned out to be the real star. Hubby partook in a liquor tasting that cost $10 for multiple samples. They have some very unique flavors that I've never heard of anyone incorporating in a liquor before. I ordered a bourbon and lemonade drink that hit the spot in the Texas heat. This was a Mecca for bachelorette parties and large groups of friends. There is plenty of room on the property to spread out and enjoy the weather. They also host concerts on their stage next to the tasting room. Hahaha kidding but really this place was awesome, even though it was a day with drizzle still enjoyed it! First off the staff is beyond sweet, so warm and welcoming! The drinks were great and good price! Such a fun vibe with good music. Very mellow way to spend a Sunday afternoon. So happy they had a kids area because both my 8 year old and 2 year old had a blast and stayed busy so I could enjoy a delicious Bloody Mary. They have awesome lawn games to keep busy and a delicious pizza food truck parked on site. We will for sure be back!! I'm rounding up to 5 stars because it is a family run business working hard to make a go of it. Small but nice distillery has tours and tastings with a large outdoor area for hanging out and a stage for occasional music acts. I didn't play but the frisbee golf looked great. Rum, gin, fireball, and few other mixed spirits to sample. I personally liked and purchased the gin. Low juniper the way I like it. Odd wild eye logo is off putting but very friendly staff. read more

Sought out this lovely facility while vacationing nearby based on the reviews of fellow yelpers. Excellent facility! The owners were super sweet and knowledgeable. My boyfriend and I did the tasting - $8 for a taste of 4 spirits with 6 to choose from: Corn Vodka - hint of sweetness and great consistency Clear Molasses Rum - not my kinda thing but this was good. Citrus forward Gin - also not my type of spirit but I actually really liked this. Clean and fresh - perfect for Texas summers! Horseradish Vodka - you really must try the Bloody Mary with this. Yum! Hotscotch - butterscotch pepper whiskey. We loved this so much we are bringing a bottle home. Iron Hot - cinnamon pepper whiskey. Good if you're into cinnamon spirits. We also had two drinks. I had the Bloody Mary with horseradish Vodka and my boyfriend had the wild tea (Arnold Palmer with bourbon). The owners have big plans for this facility and you can tell a great deal of thought and planning has been put into this establishment and spirits.
