Dr. Tang is definitely a cut above the other optometrists I've been to. My eyes seem to be problem cases: drifting prescription, high sensitivity to diopter, and I'm probably much pickier than the average customer. Dr. Tang showed great patience and support, working with me to acheive the correct prescription. I've never been as satisfied with any other optometrist. As for the frames, I've generally had good luck with this office's selection. I have expensive tastes and would inevitably be drawn to the best designer frames--go figure. Before buying, I always check the internet and competing stores to try to find my preference at a lower price. I never can find a better price. I think it's funny that I keep reading people's criticisms indicating they were too lazy to shop around, so they blame this establishment for not having cheap frames! I am a HUGE fan of Dr. Ruth. I've been seeing her (pardon the pun) for over a decade now. Her warmth and personality will draw you in and help you to feel incredibly comfortable. I almost feel like I'm sitting in her living room chatting while she goes through all of the steps to make sure my eyes are staying healthy. She has worked with me to find a pair of contact that WILL work for me - and it seems like she is always on the cutting edge of technology with something new to try! I love that about her! I give Dr. Ruth SIX stars, however her staff is often just going through the paces and because of the great customer service I get from Dr. Ruth they pale in comparison. Dr. Tang and her staff are great. It was easy to make an appointment, and with my schedule being so crazy, they were more than accommodating and patient with me rescheduling it on them multiple times! Dr. Tang was extremely kind and friendly, and she never made me feel rushed. I love that she employs her mom to work at the eyeglasses counter (who couldn't be cuter!). They have a smaller selection, but they offer the best glasses. I have a hard face to fit properly and I found multiple pairs that worked for me. I loved the staff was honest about which glasses looked the best and didn't pressure me into buying the most expensive pair. I would highly recommend Irvine Optometry. I took my dad to this optometry hoping to book a last min appointment since he couldn't see with his previous glasses from last year (note we typically go to the Target Optometry on Irvine Blvd). They were nice enough to book us for an afternoon appointment that same day. When you step in, office is pretty small and not the usual spacious glasses store I'm used to. There's a small selection of frames out in the front but it looked decent to me. Dr. Tang was also very nice and didn't take long to see my dad. It was the experience afterwards that I'm not satisfied with. First of all some old lady who paced back and forth while I was waiting for my dad kept staring at me- I thought this was someone's mom and proceeded to ignore her. I realize later she's one of the staff who selects frames for you. She was sooooo slow and I was in a hurry to try and pick up my sister from school. We ended up picking out some frameless glasses. Now I'm not sure what brand my dad selected out but they were apparently the "newest frameless" version with transition lens and not even the best tier lens but costed $540 with insurance. I know glasses can be pretty costly but it's not like his vision got worse and I strictly don't recall it costing that much for 1 pair of glasses. We ordered it anyway since he needed it. That was last Tuesday- now is Friday and he still has not received them. The lady at the front desk told me it can take up to 7 business days before I left. I can't imagine someone not having 20/20 vision driving around just because some small business can't place an order correctly. Let's hope he receives his glasses by next week otherwise I'm canceling this order and we are taking our business elsewhere. read more

I am a 1st time patient and never have worn glasses or contacts before. I went here for an eye exam in order to pass a DMV eye test next month. This place is the place to go!!!! Not only does Dr Tang have a wonderful office and the latest technology, she and her staff are very professional and kind as well. Even though i don't need glasses as much as i thought, she explained in great detail everything about my eyes and and all the tests results. Dr Tang was very honest and explained i can pass the DMV test with no problems. Dr Tang explained that at most all i needed was maybe some glasses to read very small print. Dr Tang and her staff took the time to show me frames and answered all my questions. As soon as i pick out a frame i will be back to get reading glasses. Dr. Tang is knowledgeable, but I do not appreciate the high-pressure sales approach. I needed new lenses but wanted to keep my original frame. Dr. Ruth's mom insisted that the frame did not match my face. After haggling for a long time, I finally agree to a new frame. But their frames are very overpriced. While trying on the new frames, I realized I couldn't see clear enough to judge if they look good or not. I told her I wanted to come back with another person to tell me if the frames look good or not. The doctor's mom insisted that I pick my frame then and there! She was very tactful but nonetheless it was high pressure and I didn't appreciate it at all. I ended up spending several hundred dollars more than I planned to spend. And when I wore my new frames, no one even noticed the difference. I could've used my old frames and save a lot of money. The whole experience left me a very sour taste. read more

My experience made sure that I will never return to Dr Tang. First, Dr. Tang did not give me my prescription after my eye exam was completed and when I called to see if I could get it, her office made it extremely difficult to obtain the prescription that I paid for even though they forgot to give it to me. Dr. Tang only gave me a prescription for glasses and when I called weeks later to see if I could get my prescription for some contacts, her office informed me that I need to return to her office for another eye exam for contacts. WHY DIDN"T ANYONE ASK ME AT HER OFFICE IF I WANTED GLASSES OR CONTACTS WHEN THEY DID MY INITIAL EXAM? When her office asked me if I would like to schedule another exam AT MY EXPENSE so that I may have the opportunity to wear contacts, I almost told them F. U. Why in the hell am I financially responsible for the neglect of Dr. Tang's office? That is their position. A position that proves that their service sucks!!!! read more

How wonderful is Dr. Tang and her staff? Let me tell you the ways just how wonderful they are. I have been coming to them for years and years, and I am a VERY fussy patient. Being a legal secretary and word processor, I need the most precise prescription for toric contact lenses for work, as well as multifocal glasses for my social time away from the office. There have been so many times that Dr. Tang and her staff have gone above and beyond for me. First, from her mother who always picks the perfect glass frames for my face, to the time Dr. Tang brought in the manufacturer representative to adjust my glass frames because they were sitting crooked on my face and would not adjust. The representative took her own time (about 1-1/2 hours) to get the glasses to sit correctly on my face. Who does that anymore? Love my contact lenses, love Dr. Tang and her precision and her kind spirit, love her staff, love the location which is really easy to get to, love the late nights and the Saturdays which accommodate my hectic schedule, love the fact they accept so many insurance plans in this day and age. Fabulous service from superbly talented people -- and believe me -- I don't give this type of review lightly, so pay attention! And remember, you get what you pay for, so don't sell yourself short.
