11/8/2025 update Since the switch to Irvine Public Library, our experience has gone downhill. My kids were excited to visit, but after several trips, they said clearly: "We don't want to go there anymore." I agree. I don't want to go either. The shelves for elementary school students are often empty. There's no rotation, no variety, and no plan. We've returned to OCPL, where the book selection is stronger and more reliable. Irvine has over 20,000 elementary students. Two small branches without a real youth collection strategy simply aren't enough. When local families stop showing up, it's time for city leaders to rethink the system. Irvine kids love to read. Please give them an actual library they love visiting.

Great place to study. Super friendly staff. Beware of hot days: everyone and their cousin who doesn't have AC comes here.. with their kids.

It's a public library. The people there are very nice and helpful. It's clean and have plenty of seating. Zero complaints on my end.

It's kind old in Irvine! Also less Chinese book compare with Cerritos's liberty.

This library is great on week day mornings when there aren't too many kids running around.

Of course you can have a book shipped from any OC library to one close to you but I was curious about the Tustin library, never having been there. I walked in and my first impression - it's HUGE. An enormous lobby with a large children's section to the right and a larger adult area to the left. The library was neat and well organized - I found the book within a minute. So I browsed around a bit and ended up getting a couple others too. On my way to check out my books I passed a classroom full of computers, and it appeared as though some sort of class had just adjourned. Other reviews mention it is a bit noisy here but I honestly didn't experience that on a weekday afternoon. Since I did self-checkout, I didn't interact with any of the librarians so I was unable to impress them with riveting conversation about the Dewey Decimal System.

You will probably not find a quieter place to study at UCI. Each floor is equipped with study tables and desks, for students and the casual reader alike. Computers are also available for those without laptops. From what I have seen, UCI updates these computers every few years, to keep up with technology advances that newer software demands. The library has several locations where you can fill up on water and use the restroom. But it is best to navigate the library yourself to find these locations, because sometimes it is easy to get lost. My favorite places to study are the fourth and fifth floor tables, across from the giant windows facing the trees and walkway. People don't usually talk, so you can enjoy some quietude on these floors. If you need to take a break from your studies or reading, take a walk outside and enjoy the architecture, or the sculptures outside depicting the life of intellectual labor. One thing to note is that due to the scandal Dr. Ayala was involved in, with regards to sexual harassment, UCI decided to remove his name from this library. For now, it is just called the "Science Library."

They have self checkout stations but I'm old school and like to engage with the staff upon checkout. The computers truly need some deep cleaning. Most heartening, a bin is dedicated to worn American flags (located to the right of the fireplace room). Other donation containers may sometimes include Marine donations and gently used purses. This library proudly displays local artists' artwork and changes it up from local schools. Most of the library books are in great shape and you can sometimes find multiple copies. Restrooms are located to the right immediately upon entering the library's automatic sliding glass doors; there are also restrooms near the adult non-fiction area. A little concerned that the parking lot is not clearly lit upon your exit of the library, if leaving after sunset.

They have clean bathrooms and friendly staff. I'd come back.
