The Irving Convention Center At Las Colinas is the City of Irving's premier location for conventions, previous Ticketstocks, and other meetups. It's a great space if you're attending a convention and is located near the Toyota Music Factory which will provide you with additional dining and entertainment options. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Facility, Return) Atmosphere - It's big, brown, angular, and it looks like a sand crawler straight out of Star Wars. It's also very clean and spacious with tons of windows to allow the natural sunlight in. There are plenty of outdoor areas that you can escape to if you want fresh air or to get some work done. And of course, there are people ranging from your generic businessman or an anime fan with blue hair. It all depends on the conference that's going on. 1 Star. Service - I've been to the ICC twice for Tech Conferences, once for Ticketstock, and once for a Lego convention. For the tech conferences, the staff were nice. They handle food and drink, logistics, and clean up. Very helpful, no issues here. 1 Star. Facility - The ICC is very flexible. There are 4 floors which allow multiple conferences to be held at one time. There's free Wi-Fi at a decent speed, and the ballrooms are big enough to easily accommodate up to 1000 people. Tech and Business conferences are held on the 3rd and 4th floors, where the rooms are modular and can be set up to showcase goods. The first floor is a big, open space. Both my nonbusiness conferences (Ticketstock and Lego Convention) were held in this space. There is an adjacent covered parking garage, and the bathrooms were super clean. Overall, a very good space for any type of convention. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I live in Irving, so if there is a convention held at the ICC that interests me, I will attend. Food was for awful! The beef brisket is a joke the chicken was dry. Two of us got sick from the beef garlic chunks that looked like someone poured a can of Alpo on a platter. I say they should be popular with the canine community. I tried to attempt the joke of beef brisket. It was like a thin piece of rubber. I have never had anything like this. read more

You can't miss this huge structure in the Las Colinas area. Its exterior looks like a giant rusty birdcage that crash landed here from outer space. The interior is cool and spacious with quick elevators or your choice of the slower escalators. There are numerous ballrooms and smaller rooms for pretty much any size gathering you're holding. The only complaint I could find was at the fourth floor level, just outside the ballrooms, it can get extremely loud if you get 100 or so people talking. There is no sound deadening material, so it gets very loud. The bathrooms are very clean and modern. They do have an outside smoking area on the third level and one nice design aspect is the outdoor flowing stairway that can take you to the ground level. Some yelpers have complained about the small parking garage. There are two hotels directly next to the center, the Westin and the Texican Court. However, there are quite a number of other hotels nearby along with some areas of fine dining. I've included a number of photos to help round out the review. read more

I was here for a business trip. I went to a convention that was all day long. This convention center is beautiful. I was in work mode so I didn't get the opportunity to take many pictures but if you ever get the opportunity to go here I highly recommend it! They have a cafeteria that serves Starbucks. Parking is super simple and the people who work here are super friendly. read more

I think this place is sooo gorgeous! I love the architectural look of it from the outside. I have attended an event here, and it was so spacious and perfect for the event. There were so many vendors so it definitely accommodated them. I also came here for my half marathon and for both of these events, I felt like parking was an issue. We had to park on the grass, do they not have enough parking areas for people? That would be the only reason I dropped a star. Lastly I have come here for a wedding, and it was just beautiful, and for that I do not remember parking on the grass! read more

I've been here twice for conferences and it's always been so easy to find this convention center. There are plenty of parking spots in a garage which is free and it's right next to the convention center which is awesome!! I didn't give this place 5 stars because they have a very strict food policy. You cannot bring any outside food, snacks or drinks into the convention center. I understand that it may cause issues but it's a little strict. You cannot bring your lunch from home if you're at an all day conference you'll have to eat it away from the building. Not sure about diabetic snacks so make sure if you need snacks from home for medical reasons you may want to ask an event coordinator because they will ask you to throw it away. Even my co-worker got questioned about a water bottle she brought in which was extreme! Anyways, this place is nice and clean. There are numerous restaurants around the convention center because they only have a small cafe so you can get some grub if you're conference doesn't offer food. read more

Although this place continues to look impressive, there are a couple of items that just seem to hurt it with the events I attend here. This weekend's was no different. Parking is the first problem. You have to get here immediately as the garage fills up fast. If you have a taller vehicle, you'll have problems as well. For my last 2 events I attended, either I had to park in a field across from it that became a quagmire and a very muddy mess or I had to park way down the street (half mile away and walk in the street as there aren't any sidewalks. The other item is lack of refreshments. They have a small snack bar in the convention center, but it can never handle the crowd size and does not have many offerings. In the past, they have used food trucks which are not cheap and not very fast. It is good for smaller sized events but when the crowd gets bigger or there are a lot of vehicles, it just does not seem to work as well as some other venues. read more

The snack stations and Breakfast were good. They have a Starbucks as well. Parking is in the garage connected to the convention center. Very easy access. read more

For those old enough to remember Reunion Arena, you will find the architecture of this place from the outside strangely reminiscent. I have been to this center many times, both planning and attending events here. It offers a lot of things other centers fail on, like a great staff to work with, versatile event space, and a nice parking garage dor the folks attending your event. Also, the food service is better than most as well. Whether you are planning a business meeting or an all out convention, concert, or other event, it is worth the time to visit with these folks. read more

I have been here many times for other Expos.... Mostly the National Natural Hair Show. It is always Awesome with different vendors and Celebrity Keynote speakers. I also come out with so much knowledge and all types of goodies. Irving must be offering a really great deal. Because so many organizations come out in here in numbers. Which means it has limited space. This goes for parking and even vendor space. While it is in a good location and the desire that brings you out is to your advantage. This place is only for Expos that are much more smaller. So space is a major factor. But all in all a really nice place that gets the job done. But get there early because you might have to walk due to lack of parking space. read more

I've been to the convention center for a few local events being held in the area. Parking is easily accessible...they have a garage with many levels and direct access into the building. This place is huge also! They have a nice patio/rooftop area upstairs too. I kind of wish they would put a cute eatery or something in there too and then we would be set. The building itself is reminiscent of star wars, so I guess that's why they have the annual sci fi convention here. If you're attending a restricted access event, you'll need to park in a lot down the block and either walk or take a shuttle, and then walk 3/4 of the way around the building to get to the main doors, which are unfortunately never marked well. Follow the hoards of people and you'll get to the in hole. Inside, the facility itself is nice, with sufficient restrooms and concession stands on the ground level to accommodate the number of people the venue can hold. The concession stands are along the outer walls in the exhibit hall and there is also one right when you enter the building. They sell hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken salads, chips, fountain and bottled sodas, starbucks coffee, and tazo tea. I had a chicken salad, and was pleasantly surprised as to its quality. Heirloom tomatoes!?! The chicken was an actual cooked chicken breast that had been chilled and presliced. The lettuce was a spring mix and very fresh. There were also carrot and jicama shreds, and the dressing was a relatively light and fresh vinaigrette. Amazing! read more

The ICC is huge and a piece of architectural artwork. We had a conference here and had plenty of room. The building is clean and easy to navigate. The 4th floor shook as we danced, which was kinda disturbing but it held. Classrooms are painted with white board paint, which is great for teachers. The cafe needs to expand it's options. Water and cups were readily available and plenty of bathrooms on every floor. read more

I was here for Dallas Comic Con on Friday. First off, I will say that I think everyone was a little unprepared for how many people were there on Saturday. (By my rough estimate, at least 408 trillion billion people.) I could go on about several of the good thing and bad things at DCC (good massively outweigh the bad), but this is a review of the venue, not the event. First off, the convention center is beautiful, both inside and out. The entrance is pretty intimidating and reminds me of the entrance at the San Diego convention center. The layout is a little insane there. The 4 floors all all separated by escalators and line flow is not ideal there. Backups at the escalators are o be expected and they all broke down at least once throughout the day. The best part about the venue is the connected balcony and stairs. It gives you a breathtaking view of Las Colinas and has nice tables that arent too close to each other so you can relax before tackling a Summer Glau Q&A. The most striking flaw that this venue has is the lack of adequate parking. Your options are either the tiny garage, the vast dry lot that resembles the face of Mars, or the $5 parking garage (where most park) about half a mile away. That being said, no venue would ever keep me away from DCC. I'll be there in October to see Bruce Campbell and Stan Lee (again)! read more

Attempted to attend Comic Con. The Irving planners built a beautiful building but only built a small parking garage that would only hold a fraction of the cars needed for any decent sized convention. Most of the parking was two or more miles away in a condo parking lot. There was supposed to be a shuttle bus; in over an hour I never saw one. I had a handicapped person with me. There was not handicapped parking available I asked the parking garage attendant. Long lines indicated Irving could not manage ticket sales processing. The shuttle bus never showed we had to give up. This venue is not handicapped wheelchair accessible in violation of the law. Additionally, even though the venue is next to a freeway there is no direct connection. You are forced to wander around until you find the one and only road that leads to the convention center. Choosing this venue for Comic Con was a big mistake. They should have had it in Dallas where there was parking and people with disabilities could park and attend. Just say no to this place there was no consideration of people by it's idiot planners. read more

I haven't been to many convention centers, but upon pulling up to this one I found it very...weird. The architecture is certainly interesting. I wasn't sure if I was going to an event or being taken to the leader of a spaceship. Either way, parking was $5 and the only open spots were located on the roof. Normally I wouldn't care, but given recent snow storms the roof was completely covered in ice. Whee!!! I almost busted my arse 9 different times, but thankfully caught myself before photos could be snapped and held against me as blackmail. The inside is gigantic and it's endless escalator after escalator. It's very easy to get confused trying to find your way around. I was here to attend the North Texas Teen Book Festival because my incredibly talented cousin was one of the authors. They had numerous panels going on followed by signings, and I was very impressed with how personable the panels were. There was a microphone set up in each room where a select number of kids could walk up to it and ask a question. Seeing their faces light up with excitement was just the coolest thing ever, and I am SO glad to see that kids still read books!!! Sure I love tv and movies as much as the next person, but there is something to be said about getting lost in a book. Many authors brought fun things like buttons and stickers to hand out, and half price books were there too selling copies. The whole concept of the festival is wonderful because not only do kids get to meet their favorite writers, but they get to be introduced to new ones as well whose books they maybe would have overlooked before. I wish these events would have existed when I was a kid! This generation gets all the cool stuff.. One thing I will say is that it would be nice to have more areas to be able to sit down and chat here. We kept finding ourselves standing in awkward corners and even tried to go outside but got engulfed in cigarette smoke which was sucky. Overall the festival was 10 stars. As far as the convention center itself, they have plenty of room to work with, so finding a better use of it would have made me like it more. read more

If you're interested to know how the food is here then you should probably stop reading my review because I came solely for ComicCon and the food I did eat was from a food truck outside. BUT if you want to know how the convention center is then you're in for a treat! The architecture is interesting and makes for great pictures. Not to sacrifice function for design, the designers got this place right. There are plenty of great outdoor spaces incorporated that make for a place to get fresh air as well as stairs to avoid the crowded halls/escalators/stairs inside. Almost every level has a patio/balcony area with tables and chairs. But hey if those are taken then don't be a priss and just sit on the stairs, which are longer and wider than typical stairs so it's very comfortable. I came here during ComicCon and it was pretty packed but I still managed to find a seat when I just needed a break. I noticed many areas and benches scattered around the venue which was nice. The staff kept it very clean and overall the event was managed very well. Nothing like an orderly AND fun event right? What else is important at large venues like this? Restrooms! I knew you were thinking it so lets quickly review those... There were plenty of them! And ladies, NO LONG LINES! That's all folks! read more

Enjoyed myself here at Zestfest recently as a first-timer. The event was well organized and the facility had plenty of space for the many vendors, at least 75-100. I could move up and down each aisle with ease even amongst the numerous crowd. There was even enough room for seating for the annual jalapeno eating contest. As a side note & no reflection on the ICC, but I still regret not buying J. Anthony Brown's 'Hotter than a MoFo Hot Sauce', but that's another story. That was some good stuff!!! Construction still continues around the outskirts of this facility, but I still enjoyed the newness with minimal if not any issues at all. The architecture is a sweet and a great look for the Las Colinas surroundings, but there aren't any eating places close by...for now. The concession stands inside are a bit pricey, but I guess thats typical. They also have a paid-parking garage as well. Overall, not a bad place. I hope to return soon. read more

But, this center is not good for much else other than small conferences. Small parking structure where they charged me to park for a recent event (Boo Hiss). Meeting rooms are all upstairs and unfortunately it is a long escalator ride and there only two elevators. I mentioned they charged me to park, this event also charged to "re-enter" so lunch choices were limited since most all restaurants are on the other side of O'Connor Blvd (tip, the Marriott has a great french dip sandwich) so until the area is built out...I say "2 stars for you!" read more

I don't hate it at all, and I'm frankly a little interested in any fussy chatter otherwise. Let's be direct: the Irving Convention Center is obvious, a straightforward structure with a bit of an avant grade exterior. It's a giant open space, built in a gigantic building (that admittedly looks a little like a cross between a Death Star and a Design Within Reach catalog), and the inside space has been well utilized by the on-site staff within. Know that these shows are never an easy get - even if you have access to the space, popular events often require busing in patrons in there. But the city and the venue seem to be open to booking well, and that bodes highly for the future of the convention center. Worth a stop, contingent on what's happening inside. read more

The facility is visually nice on the inside. I know a lot of people like the physical structure but personally, I'm not a fan, the architecture looks ugly from far away. The structure doesn't become visually nice until you're standing right by it. Besides outside cosmetics, the inside is nice (however I've seen better). The restrooms are decent for the size of the facility and there's enough concession areas on either side of the exhibit halls for all day events. The cost of food is reasonable in terms of concession food prices and are decently good. The big CON, there's only one set of escalators to get to the upper levels and the staircases are kept as "exit only" for events. If your planning/going to a smaller event like ZestFest, you'll have a lot of fun. The convention center can easily hold a couple hundred people. However if your planning/attending a big event like Comic Con, save your money. At these type events you pay to get shuttled around like cattle in a congested city. There's not enough room to see or do anything for events with 400+ people. The facility simple cannot control large crowds and is not designed to allow large crowds to easily flow through the whole center (especially to different floors). The parking is also ridiculous. $5 is a good deal considering all other Dallas convention centers typically charge anywhere from $10 - $20 dollars for parking. However good luck actually getting in the garage to whatever event you attend (unless you are first to the door), because the garage parking is TINY compared to the amount of tickets they provide to these events. Be prepared to park in the grass and walk long distances. Not to mention the stairs to get from garage to convention center are minimal. At least the Dallas convention center has ample parking and its not dangerous to cross the street from the dart station to the venue as its pedestrian friendly (the Irving Convention center is NOT pedestrian friendly). read more

I spent the weekend here for an exposition and the actual structure was my favorite aspect of the whole event. Driving down a somewhat stark road you are finally greeted by a monstrous building that evokes architecture hailing from much more sophisticated and developed European cities. While maintaining the industrial style it still resonates natural elements in its rust color, neutral tones, and natural landscape on the convention's grounds. Most architecture attempts to reflect its natural or urban surroundings, however this asymmetrical, industrial frame looks a little out of place seeing that there is not much to be seen en route from Dallas to Irving. Nonetheless, this lopsided 'mad-hatter cake' looking building is breathtaking. The interior has very clean and pristine facilities - not much more to expect from an interior of a convention center. I certainly enjoyed the parking. Every spot is in close vicinity to the elevators and the elevators are in close vicinity to the entrance.Good. I was also pleasantly surprised of how short the distance really is from Dallas. The convention center is located on, what I believe, the outskirts of Irving, Las Colinas. A quick, breezy trip from North or South Dallas. Just hop on I-35! read more

Its a convention center, its not that big or amazing. I dislike the Golf Expo is getting smaller year after year, and has moved to Irving. Not only was the space small, there just was not alot to do, which made the Expo not worth it. Typically you go for the Training, the Great Discounts on Products, instead you wonder around the whole place in 15 minutes only to be Bombarded by people selling you junk, wanting you to enter contest after contest, be put on a mailing list and Guarantee a WIN and Free Trips, which we all know is a Scam. I have been to two trade shows here in last year. The convention center is sized appropriately for a convention of 1-2,000 people. The breakout educational seminar rooms are well lit and comfortable for note taking when setup classroom style. The ballroom is large for keynote speakers and luncheons. Experienced a very, very good lunch one day and a good breakfast the other. Lunch featured grilled chicken breasts, veggies sliced lengthwise and bundled with a thinly sliced carrot wrapped around middle. Delicious. The trade show floor flowed well and the elevators and escalators moved us around the center. Plenty of clean, brightly lit restrooms, and good signage. Friendly staff abounds, and parking was free for our event. There are plenty of hotels nearby, and Las Colinas traffic is light. read more

I recently attended a convention at this facility and was wowed by the beautiful construction. The exterior looks like a graceful sandcrawler under a wide, Texas sky, which was fitting since I was there for a Star Wars convention. For the size of the event, Fan Days, the center was a good fit. There were enough merchants to fill out the halls, there was enough parking in the garage to accommodate cars, even when you left and returned. Unfortunately, there is no parking re-entry, so you pay twice if you need to leave and get a real meal. While it is nice that they also offer concessions inside, they were pretty expensive and not that great. There aren't many options for vegetarians if you are trying to stay on site for a meal. There's an expensive personal pan pizza, nachos with black beans, and grilled cheese (only if the second floor shop is open). I tried the pizza. Waited about 20 minutes while the kitchen seemed in total disarray over their ordering and divvying process during lunch time, and my plain cheese pizza finally came out cold with a thick layer of raw dough lurking under the sauce. It turned out that the cashier forgot to put in the order for my cheese pizza originally, thus enters the Seinfeld "you can take the reservation but you don't know how to fill the reservation" joke. Oh well. If you are getting a hot dog, you probably won't have the same problems. Overall, I enjoyed the experience at the Irving Convention Center. The larger ballrooms were quite expansive and a good place to house Q&As. It wasn't clear if the technology equipment was in-house or brought by the company sponsoring Fan Days, but there weren't any tech hiccups and audio and visual displays for the events were good. The center is fine for large corporate meetings. Parking and facilities are fine. I was very irritated with the catering, though... And this is why I would opt for a hotel conference in the future. Hotels are more flexible. We had a group adjourn 15 minutes early and the lunch was all set up, attendants everywhere and they would no let the group start early. 15 minutes. And it was all self serve. This sort of thing happened time and time again. So, nope, back to a hotel we go. read more

Just attended the #DSDAL conference here and was pleasantly surprised. The parking was free for the event so that was easy and nice. The conference was spread between the 2nd and 3rd floors and there was often a bottleneck on the escalator (1800 people would get out of a talk at the same time and then all need to get somewhere else). Minor inconvenience. I'm giving this a 5 star review because of the salad in the cafe. Ordered a veggie salad expecting it to be gross (but I felt like I needed vegetables so I should risk it). Be aware that I'm REALLY picky about lettuce. It needs to be fresh happy lettuce that is good without salad dressing. The lettuce was super delish and fresh! I happily ate the salad instead of choking it down because I felt like I needed vegetables. Big thumbs up on the salad. read more

The ICC is beauuuuutiful to me, until you need WiFi or phone service. The building's exterior design is stunning and stark, and I am always in love with it when I've driven by. However, after being inside, the single pair of escalators is horrific in design. When you get up to the top of one, it funnels into a small walking area before you get into the hallways. That is terrifying when it's packed, as you have no where to step to when getting off the top of the escalator when it's full! Both myself and others got a little frantic when getting off the top. The second floor patios are a nice retreat, but the lack of cell service inside that stark metal building is atrocious. When there for a DIGITAL summit, many of us had horrible luck with both WiFi AND our own cell service. read more

Architecture is OK, if you like the Brutalist style. Parking is pretty bad. Your choices are an indoor, pay-to-park garage with no in & out privileges or parallel parking on the street that crosses Las Colinas Blvd, which could entail quite a walk. Food choices, if the concession stand is even open, are limited and expensive. Luckily there are plenty of restaurants within a mile or two (but see the parking limitations above, no in & out from the garage). I dislike this facility enough that I'd really be circumspect about attending any, future events there. read more
