UPDATED Review--…read more After a year away from Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I decided to give the revised format for initiating new students a try. And I have to say it made a huge difference in my experience. Last year I tried Indy BJJ and wound up with a bruised rib and feeling pretty lousy for a couple weeks while that healed. Prof. Eldred reached out to me earlier this year to let me know that they'd changed how they introduce new students to the system and invited me back when I was ready. In the interim, I trained heavily at Title Boxing in Glendale. Getting into much better shape there was probably a good start for this. The new system for initiating first-time students helps a lot, too. And this system brought back the missing stars from my previous review. The new system starts first with private instruction with Prof Eldred before joining a group class. That way when you get tossed into the group class, you're not totally at a loss as to what's being discussed. It doesn't mean the first class won't be confusing, it just means that you won't be going in totally blind. It really helped me to have more confidence. Grappling is one of my least favorite things. If, God forbid, I were ever in a real fight, I'd much prefer to rely on my boxing background. That said, BJJ is a proven defense system employed everywhere from police to military to combat sports. And it's a great work out that tests some very different muscles from boxing. So I feel like it's worth trying to learn. But it's intimidating as all get out! Those private primer classes directly from Prof. Eldred really took the sting off in jumping into group classes. If you're looking for a BJJ school that focuses on self-defense and has a rock-solid lineage back to the Gracies, this would be the right fit for you. I'll probably never be a good grappler, or even really enjoy it. But I've got some faith that under this school's tutelage, I'll at least be sufficient enough to have an idea of what I'm doing if I were ever in a grappling situation.

I signed up and I've been to three classes and while my technique isn't perfect I've learned almost a dozen movements and have a basic understanding of the transitions. Whether you've done martial arts or haven't this is the perfect dojo and instructor to get started or start again. If the junior instructors are any indication of the teaching then you'll see why I signed up for three months in advance. Hope to see you in class soon.

Indiana weather is dumb and has a mind of its own, doesn't it? I had signed up for an outdoor yoga…read moreclass with Breathe Studio that was supposed to take place at Ellenberger Park. But it was raining on the morning of the outdoor yoga class, so it was moved indoors to the Breathe studio. That turned out to be A-OK, because I got to practice in their gorgeous studio. It's so calm and inviting. And our instructor, Teresa, was a delight. She led us through an easy flow that included lots of twists and eagle poses. The flow was accessible to everyone, and there were people of all levels practicing together. It was my first class at Breathe, and I felt completely welcome. Yoga people are my people, and it was obvious I was among my people. The class was beautiful and just what I needed. I do love practicing yoga outdoors, so I'll have to sign up for another outdoor yoga class with Breathe in the future. They offer them occasionally during the summer.

There were only 3 reformers there but i did appreciate that it was a small class, who wants to embarrass themselves in front of a large group?! Our instructor(Adrian?)was super nice and took her time explaining everything and ensuring our comfort. Bonus points for respecting personal boundaries and asking if we were comfortable with physical corrections/guidance. I thought "oh that wasn't so bad" but definitely felt it a couple days later. Loved everything about it and can't wait to return.
