Combo plate with huli huli fried teriyaki chicken and fried shrimp, rice, macaroni salad, and a crab Rangoon
    Molly M.

I saw this truck at the KC Lawn Party at the Nelson and had been wanting to try it for awhile. I got the combo plate with the fried chicken and fried shrimp and a crab Rangoon. Everything was delicious, the shrimp and Katsu were crunchy but perfectly cooked in the jnsudesauce was perfect for the meats and rice, and the macaroni salad was different than the other places around here, with a little more flavor.

We ordered for dine in but our food came in to go containers (maybe all the food is prepared this way or maybe we clicked the wrong button, I'm not sure?) All the tables were dirty so we just wiped down one to sit at ourselves. We ordered a little of everything. I got the classic mixed plate which included 2 different meats to choose from. I chose the luau pork & huli huli chicken and it was super generous portions. I changed my rating from a 3 star to a 4 star solely for the pineapple BBQ sauce that was great. My dad ordered the huli huli chicken which he thought had a great flavor and my mom ordered the honolulu chicken which she said tasted similar to the huli huli. The pasta salad was mid, nothing to rave home about. The veggies were super bland, they tasted steamed and had no seasoning on it. It was a good option for a fast dinner but nothing spectacular.

I like the clean feeling inside and how the staff are involved in helping the customer. If you have questions about substations the staff are more than happy to explain. My favorite is Huli Huli chicken. I think the picture is Honolulu chicken. A classic meal fills me up.

The restaurant itself is cute, peaceful and comfortable. The staff are up and beyond. The wrap I had, I could only eat half. It was huge: huli huli wrap. The chicken was flavorful and bits of pineapple, Romain lettuce and rice made the wrap with 2 meals. Oh and the bathroom-gender neutral with a Dyson dryer. If you visit this location, don't forget to use it. Ofcourse I'll be back. This place is special.

Thank you for this experience…read more Seriously. Because now I know one place I will never come back to. Around 10:30 PM I was sitting in my car trying to decide where to have dinner. I had never been to Hawaiian Bros before, so I figured this was a good chance to finally see what everyone was talking about. Google said you were open until 12:00 AM, so I drove over. I got there around 10:50 PM. Everything looked normal. Or at least I thought so. I spent about fifteen minutes deciding what to order. Only after that was I told some ingredients were already gone, so part of the menu couldn't even be made. Why wasn't that the first thing your employees told me when I walked in? I changed my order. I ordered dine in. Nobody said the dining room would close early. Nobody said I wouldn't be allowed to eat inside. Nobody said a single word. Around 11:15 PM my food came out in plastic containers inside a plastic bag. Strange for dine in, but okay. I was hungry. I sat down. About fifteen minutes later an employee came over and told me I had to leave. I honestly laughed because I thought she was joking. I asked, "Your restaurant closes at midnight, right?" "Yes." "So why am I being asked to leave at 11:30?" "It's company policy." Okay... Show me the policy. It's not on your website. Nobody mentioned it before I ordered. Nobody mentioned it before I paid. Nobody mentioned it while my food was being prepared. The only thing I heard was that I had to leave. Now here's what really bothered me. When I walked in around 10:50 PM, there were four military members sitting inside eating dinner. They stayed inside while I was waiting for my food. Nobody interrupted them. Then a few minutes later, the rest of us were outside eating on benches while the restaurant was still officially open. That made absolutely no sense to me. If the same rules apply to everyone, then apply them to everyone. If your dining room closes before midnight, change the hours. If customers can't eat inside after a certain time, put a sign on the front door. If half the menu isn't available anymore, tell people before they spend fifteen minutes choosing dinner. Don't wait until they've already paid. And definitely don't sell someone a dine-in meal just to send them outside before your posted closing time. The crazy part? The food wasn't bad. The service destroyed the entire experience. I came here expecting dinner. Instead, I got a lesson on how fast a good meal can be ruined by poor management and employees who clearly didn't want customers there anymore. Kansas City has too many restaurants that actually respect the hours they advertise. Next time, I'll spend my money at one of those.
