I specifically confirmed that the food would still be delivered, and the staff member reassured me that they were working on it. After waiting with no update, I called again to ask for the ETA and whether the driver had left. At that point, I was told that we had cancelled the order, which is incorrect. We did not cancel; in fact, we called proactively to ensure the order was still being prepared. I understand that holidays can be busy, but clear and accurate communication is essential. Food is amazing! I ordered a half order of crab Rangoon which were light and crispy--perhaps the best I've had--and chicken mai fun. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Heavy on the onion and scallions, but otherwise perfect! Maybe next time I'd add broccoli and mushrooms for a fee? A neighborhood takeout spot is an underrated treasure. if it's a dine-in spot as well, then that's a bonus. Lucky Wok probably does more of their overall business with online ordering and takeout than they do for dine-in. It's easy to order online: just bring up the website, make your selections, check out & pay. And don't forget to tip! Pickup is just as simple, just let the host know that you're there for carry out and your hot food comes out. If there is any knock, then it might be that the turnaround time from order to food is not always as promised. But the quality of the food is wonderful, so I can let a few minutes go here & there. And the prices are really good, especially when you see how much food you get! An order of General Tso's chicken with a side of rice runs me $14+ and I'm not kidding when I say that is easily two meals for me and usually three. Many of the dinner specials come with a side, and the egg rolls and spring rolls are excellent. My wife is a big fan of their wonton soup, a hot, nourishing homemade broth that cures what ails ya. If you came because you're looking for the more "authentic" food. Get the green menu. We ordered eggplant w/ salty fish, ginger/green onion chicken, seafood chow fun w/ gravy. The eggplant dish was actually pretty tasty. Eggplant was cooked properly and it was seasoned nicely 3.75/5 The seafood chow fun was ok. Not really that good. Missing that nice char wok flavor. Also the soy tasted basically like soy sauce. I thought the imitation crab, fish balls and squid rings in it were odd. I've been for both dine in and carry out experiences and enjoyed everything I've tasted so far! The menu has a range of traditional dishes, american classics, and some Hawaiian specialities. We ordered crab rangoons both times, because we can't do without them. So cripsy, filled with a cream cheese filling, and overall very satsifying. When dining in we ordered the house fried rice, the happy family dinner, and the shrimp and scallops in garlic sauce. While all tasty, the garlic sauce was on another level! It was flavorful and savory and different from other dishes I've had from Chinese restaurants (unless I'm just ordering the wrong thing). I'd seriously eat the sauce on just about anything. When carrying out, we ordered online and my husband had no issues picking it up. We had the house fried rice and rangoons again, but this time tried the dumplings, lo mein noodles, and sesame chicken. The sesame chicken was crispy and the noodles were good. Portions were very generous too! I also grabbed a chicken katsu misubi because it intrigued me! It was good, but definitely could have used a little more sauce. We tried ordering from a Lucky Wok and Grill right after the owner change and it was a mess. There were groups of people waiting to pick up food and it was unorganized at best. We came back to give Lucky Wok and Grill one more chance. Much more organized and food came out promptly but the food was disappointing. I got the BBQ Mix with beef, short rib, and chicken. I expected the BBQ flavored chicken but instead, it was an odd mix of bland and acidic. The beef was not even salted and the only decent piece of meat was the short rib. The meat was sitting on a bed of rice with rice as sides. I expected steamed vegetables but my fault for not asking I guess. Overall, I have not been impressed with the change. read more

That was a one time bad experience and not reflective of most of the other times I've been to this restaurant (which is quite a few!). This remains one of the best Chinese food restaurants in the KS city area - as authentic as it gets if you order the right dishes. Lucky for me, Lucky Wok was open earlier in the day while I was out and about. The ambiance was nice. There was beautiful artwork on the wall painted by the woman who took our order. I had been eating at Lucky wok for over 15 years. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years I have seen the quality and the amount of food portions go downhill, to the point that I have had to start looking for other options as far as Cantonese and Chinese food goes in my area. I remember when I could order sweet-and-sour pork or chicken and it would actually come with mixed vegetables. Now it just comes with meat only for a lot more expensive price. The last few times I ordered sweet-and-sour chicken, half of the chicken was dry, tough and inedible. If I ask for one small plastic container of a specific sauce that comes with an entrée I order, I either get chastised about it or they try to charge me extra for a small cup, even though I am ordering usually around $50-$60 of food at one time. I even had a lady at the front desk argue with me once that she put an extra cup of sauce in there, and when I got home, it was not in there, which is frustrating when you even make notes on the to go order. I should've checked it while I was there, but I was made very uncomfortable to the point that I didn't want to cause any more conflict. A side of lo mein used to actually come with vegetables. Now it's literally just noodles and a light sauce. The same thing goes for the fried rice. It used to come with a lot more egg and mixed vegetables and the last time I got it it was literally just rice in a brown sauce that was fried. Overall, I feel like they have definitely lack on the amount of fresh vegetables that I was used to having with some of their dishes, especially for the cost that they charge on their dishes. The quality of meat used to be so much better, and lately we have noticed in our household that the meats have been tougher and drier, almost making us believe that the food is either preheated or is from the day before. It's unfortunate because I had been coming here for so long and it used to be such great quality, but I feel like they are trying to make up for the cost of the recent renovations inside the restaurant and are lacking on the actual quality of food and return customers that it used to bring. read more

Bad Bad Bad! Would never ever go back there again ! Used to go there once or twice a month before we move to Colorado. I noticed they change owner again. After we walked in, I asked the front guy where is the regular front lady, is this own by different owner? but he just told me "I don't know" Really ? Why don't you just honestly tell us it change owner ! We sat down and looked at the menu, all the price jump up at least 25 -30%. I understand that food cost went up but they are not only raise the price but cut the portion too!! We only found this place last year once Master Wok closed. Covid has taken out some good ones, but Lucky Wok has curbside service and it is really excellent. We have been very impressed. I particularly like the beef with vegetables and my wife likes the pineapple fried rice. We tend to get way more than we need and eat on it for days. We always get the chicken on a stick (yummy!) and the egg drop soup is perfect, which is really important to us. That can make or break a Chinese Restaraunt for us. Tried out this restaurant out because my usual one was having phone line problems or something. I ordered the chicken lo Mein & requested hot oil on the side. It was bland but what can I expect from a buffet type restaurant. I wonder if they just took the noodles from the buffet & mixed the chicken with it. Anyways I tried to add soy sauce but I still couldn't get it right. The decor was ok & the restaurant seem small but nothing bad to say about it. The waitress was nice so I'll just leave it with a 4 star. I can't be too cruel since I've only tried 1 dish from them. I'll have to try other dishes to determine how the food is there. read more

All of these good reviews got my hopes up for this place. Lucky Wok was a small restaurant with a mini-buffet bar. I met 10 others here and it felt like we were in our corner by ourselves. I had to let someone know that we were ready to order when we were ready for quite awhile. Also, we had a large group and there was another large group as well. It seemed like there was confusion or something as the waitresses thought we had more people when a few people cancelled at the last minute and that caused them to be unhappy. Just something to think about... make sure you don't have people cancel at the last minute. I ordered the Sauteed Beef Brisket with Seasoned Vegetables ($9.50) while everybody else ordered their own thing. Then, we all shared and did a family-style dinner. After we ordered a bunch of dishes (probably 9 or so), we all waited what felt like a long time for our first dish to come out. After the first dish came, then it was a steady flow of dishes that came to our table except the last one. The food was okay at best in my opinion and the prices were inexpensive. We did manage to finish everything but I didn't think it was anything special. One thing I noticed was there was no air conditioner unless they didn't turn it on when we went. They had a few ceiling fans but those weren't efficient so it was really warm for most at our table. read more

Came here with my boyfriend one day to grab a late lunch. This place is small, but has a lot of variety. They do a buffet for lunch and order from menu for dinner. All the dishes were very generous and decently priced. The dishes that we got was very tasty and yummy to the tummy. One of my favorite Chinese restaurant in the town. Have been eating at there for more than 15 years and going strong. The owner (is also the cook) cooks very good authentic Cantonese dish. I always ask Chinese Menu for Chinese people, so I can get real Chinese. Oh, I always tell waitress: No MSG please, Thanks! (for my health) Every time when we were there, other table's customer always asked waitress what we had? and they want to order the exactly same dishes like ours. Some customers even can't wait until waitress to come out from kitchen, just came right over to ask us which we don't mind to be the ambassador for the owner. We even joking to tell those customer that Lucky Wok IS our kitchen!! When owner saw the order we made in the kitchen, she always came out say "HI", greet us. We are very happy to see her every time and ask: how do you know we are here? She said: Of course I know you are here, when I see the order, I know it's YOU!! Don't let the exterior and interior of this place fool you. They have one of the best authentic Cantonese/Chinese dishes here in KC. Ask for a menu and do not eat off of the buffet. My faves are the beef brisket hot pot, the baked salted chicken, and the seafood flat noodles with black bean sauce. I was a a little disappointed that they stopped making my favorite taro dessert.
