Isla de Pasion is a secluded island off of Cozumel and is such a beautiful beach that is not to be missed. There are many ways to get there -- by ferry, by private boat/catamaran, or car. On Thursday, my husband and I rented a jeep and drove to the fishing pier at Laguna Ciega. Note: You will need a jeep to get to Laguna Ciega. I would not recommend walking. Once you leave downtown and start driving for a while, you will end up in front of a dirt road, where the road becomes bumpy and requires off-road driving. A regular car will not be able to handle the dips, which are pretty major. Depending on the weather there could also be muddy water. The dirt road is wide enough for one car, so be mindful of cars that could come from the opposite direction. Despite the off-road driving, we still arrived within 30 minutes. Cozumel is not a large island. We parked our rental car and got on a boat with a local who offered to take us across to la Isla de Pasion for 100 pesos per person each way. We agreed that we would pay him half of total when he gets us to la Isla de Pasion, and then the other half when he takes us back to Laguna Ciega. The boat ride was quick and took about 5-10 minutes. Isla de Pasion was incredible. The water was clear and the waves were super gentle. There is a beach club on site; however, my husband and I settled down in our own little section of the beach. We stayed for about 3 hours, swimming, and having a picnic with food and beers that we brought. As we were leaving around 1:30pm, we noticed there were a lot more people on Isla de Pasion. Definitely get to the island EARLY so you can enjoy it when it is less crowded. read more

We visited this beautiful island on a Carnival excursion with the Twister speedboat as our mode of transportation. The good: Eduardo y Eduardo were our captains on the boat and it was an amazing time. Aida was our go to person on the island and she was very kind and accommodating. The island is GORGEOUS- clear water, surprisingly no fish, white sand, nice chairs, hammocks, and swings at the cash bar. The drinks from the cash bar were fabulous- I had fresh coconut water and a delicious mojito. The not-so-good: the food was just plain bad and there was very little selection. The included drinks were either a rum punch, tequila punch, or beer. The punches were heavy on sugar but had very little alcohol. The inflatable was in need of much repair. Snorkeling is listed in the description but when we asked we were told there are no reefs on the island and they don't have snorkeling. The worst part for me was the timing- we knew we were only scheduled to be there until 1:30 but we were only at the island from about 9:30-11:45 before we were corralled back to the boats. We did this through a Royal Caribbean cruise with the speedboat ride out (Twister). The boat was the most fun thing we did on the whole cruise. Alberto and Antonio were so much fun doing 360s with us there and back. Once you're there it's super relaxing. Quiet beach, everything you need is right there. I hear people complaining about the drinks and food. I drink diet soda and my husband drinks beer so maybe we're just easy. It was all inclusive with tacos and fruit. It was hands down the worst experience I ever had. Food was terrible drinks were watered down. The water was full of rocks and shells couldn't go in. And the catamarans were slow on paper said 30 minutes took over 45 minutes. The boat was not tied up getting on and off was extremely dangerous. Souvenirs are crazy marked up. Bathrooms had no running water. And everywhere I turned there was a tip jar. Even in the bathroom and there wasn't anyone there. Avoid this place like the plague. Boat ride was good. Beach was beautiful although I believe I got some kind of jelly fish larvae rash on my skin from the water. The food was horrible and would not pass USA health codes. They fixed tacos with chicken or fish, spaghetti, French fries, and fly infested Mac salad. Included drinks had hardly any alcohol. All of the trampolines were broken, the hammocks in the water had algae all over the hammocks because they do not maintain them. There are two swings and good luck using them in the water because they are built way to high to get in them. They make you take pictures at the end of the boat ride and constantly try to make you buy them during your stay at the island. The shops have no prices and they try to rip you off and are very pushy if you walk buy them. My husband and I felt stuck on this island and had a bad time. I would not recommend. read more

So we decided to go on this excursion through Carnival instead of going to Mr Sanchos. That was a mistake. The boat ride to the island was 55 minutes there and 55 minutes back. Keep in mind this was an all inclusive excursion. For the boat ride there and back. We were not offered anything to drink. No water. Nothing. We get there to get off the boats to the island. They line everyone up to take pictures when you get off. Wasting even more time if you don't want to do them. We get there. The food option were very little. And wasn't very good. They have 1 option for free beer and rum punch that is watered down. If you want any other kind of beer. You have to pay for it. $15 a bucket. The walk from the dock to where you needed to be was a pretty good distance. The beach was beautiful. But that was about it. The tour guides didn't do a whole lot. But they made sure to ask everyone for a tip before we got back on the boat to go back to our ship. I would not recommend this excursion. read more

This place was horrendous!!! We booked this with out 1 and a half year old for our excursion on our cruise and it was the WORST day by far. The beach was covered in ants, couldn't get into the water unless you wanted your feet cut up by rocks, the water in the bathrooms wasn't even on. We had to ask someone to turn it on!! The food was very meh and not even what they said would be there. They ran out of food half way through!!! They said it would be 30 min to get there and ended up being almost an hr each way. I booked a private oasis as part of a vow renewal and the conditions of this experience were an embarrassment. The bar was limited to basically rum, tequila, and some fruit drink mix and ran out of rum within an hour.....and we did not drink that much....how do you run out. The beach was a sea weed ridden mess and getting in the water was gross. I can say the food was good, but all else was a complete misrepresentation of the experience. My response from carnival was basically sorry....these things happen, no ownership of the lackluster experience. When I booked this there were mixed reviews, and I thought maybe some people are just jerks.....you may be thinking that now, but I implore you to not waste your time. We purchased the excursion to Passion Island through Carnival. Price was not bad, included meals and drinks which should have been a warning sign. It is a 45 minute ride to and from. The two guides Miguel and Cecilia were great! Water and sand were beautiful! Inclusive drinks were weak and cheap; served only on the rocks. My husband started getting a hangover while still drinking after 2 drinks. Cheap liquor. They do have a cash bar but that defeats paying for the packaged deal. Food was not good but I was hungry. There is only one bathroom area and you have to walk a distance unless you sit close which puts you away from the water. Souvenir shops were overpriced. They claimed items were "exclusive" to Isla Pasion. I recommend you buy an adult only excursion, unless you don't mind kids.....but hurry, those sell out quickly! I would purchase a different excursion instead. read more

An exceptional place to relax! Our cruise made a stop at Cozumel and we took an excursion to Isla Pasión we rested on the beach chairs, tried out the hammocks and the blow up trampolines. So much fun. The souvenirs are extremely overpriced. My sister bought something and realized afterwards that it was much cheaper to buy in the the center of Cozumel. Other than that, staff is super friendly, food is meh, didn't have the drinks but everyone seem to be more than happy with them! read more

The water had a lot of seeweed, but that's ok. Included drinks and food. The drinks were a little weak, but you can drink all you want. Perfect for kids as well. We went here on May 19 and we saw the flying fish on the way as well. We booked this excursion through Carnival. It was a beautiful beach with wonderful blue waters. The amenities were wonderful and the food and drinks were good. All in all had great time. The only complaint was that the excursion was way too short! read more

We were on a group tour and this was preplanned for us. (HINT: Take the first boat to the Island, you get choice of chairs/drinks/rentals/spa treatments/food) The boat left promptly at 0930 (ship time). They crew was great, Areyla tried to pump up the energy and get us all enthused so early in the morning. The music was playing and kept us hopping on the ride over to the Island. The water was a beautiful blue, but chilly. There were plenty of places to play in the water, even hammocks! I suggest giving it a try and go inclusive, we ate and drank and enjoyed the day in great care! read more

I was married on this beautiful little island. it was exceptional!!! I looked at several tropical places for a destination wedding, and we feel so lucky we found this gem. It was the most beautiful beach location I could have ever imagined. During the day the island is a fun beach club, but at night they'll close everything down for your wedding. The wedding planner, Genny, is wonderful to work with- she did an amazing job putting together what I envisioned. The decor was beautiful, and the food was amazing. We received so many compliments. I can't say enough what a wonderful experience this was, especially for something that could be as stressful as a destination wedding with 80+ guests. I was a very happy bride. read more

We booked this excursion through Carnival. Beautiful beach, good food and drinks and great place to relax. Value for money was fair. I recommend water shoes since the beach has lots of shells and rocks. One complaint....the tour guide Felipe pressured us over and over again to tip him. Then He solicited tips at the end of the excursion, holding a can labeled 'tips' and shaking it in front of all guests as they boarded the catamaran. It was pretty off putting, especially since I could not for the life of me, figure out why he deserved a tip. He just corralled all guests and got them on and off the catamaran boat. I tipped out of fear since he controlled the transportation back to the cruise ship. Ironically, the child care staff was amazing and totally attentive to the kids and never once hinted at a tip. Enjoy the 5 bucks Felipe. although the island is beautiful, we won't be back because we hate being hounded for tips. read more

The island is absolutely gorgeous! We got there by the catamaran booked through carnival shore excursions. The ride there takes around 40 mins so keep that in mind if your with a 5 hour shore excursion. 40 mins there and 40 mins back, loading and unloading the catamaran, pics, and rules, you won't have much time to do much on the island! We were the first group to arrive, which was nice we had first picks on where to grab a seat or first to get a drink at the open bars. Speaking of "open bar" just a FYI my husband had about 13 mixed drinks and barely had a buzz..... I had one watered down blue margarita which was good I mean I can taste some kind alcohol in it at the bottom and I'm a light weight and did not get a buzz. The shops were way overpriced for what they are selling so id would suggest shopping in the shops at Cozumel instead. They suckered me into buying a ankle bracelet for to much lol. They also have an all you can eat buffet, which has two kinds of rice, fish, grilled chicken, two kinds of spaghetti, French fries and chicken nuggets?! I know right ? Mexican island with American food! They did have guacamole and chips and it was the best I ever had! I just ate that after tasting everything else. There are two bars by the buffet as well, they had water hammocks which was nice . The water was warm and very pretty! Everything is included on the island besides some water things like the water bicycle which look way to complex for me to ride lol, the staff was very nice always made sure you were doing ok so bring tips for these people!! After my tour of the mexican towns the day before my heart goes out to these people! Our dollar will go a long way trust me ! I just wish I had more then 3 hours to spend exploring on the island :( read more

This past summer I was invited to my third Carnival cruise! Carnival cruises are the best if you like to party and have a good time so I highly recommend taking one. This particular cruise, Carnival Paradise, was a five-day cruise. Paradise had two destinations Key West, Florida and Cozumel, Mexico. The group I traveled with decided to do our excursion in Cozumel. Our group's ages ranged from 18 to 51 so we needed something that would please everyone. As soon as we read the description for Isle de Pasion we knew it was the perfect excursion. Just as promised the tour included thrill, relaxation, food, spirits, and bliss. We met with our group at the front of the docking port. Once everyone was there we were guided to the Twister. The Twister is a yellow speedboat that does 360 turns and goes up to 80 mph! We were buckled in by roller coaster like straps and took our wild ride through the beautiful turquoise waters. Just a warning you will get soaked by some of Twisters crazy spins! For those who wouldn't want to ride the Twister they also have a Catamaran that's a much slower smooth ride. Upon arriving, we were greeted by our tour guide, Diana. She was very friendly and funny and spoke English fluently. We took photos in front of a beautiful sign that read "Isla Pasion". Then Diana gave us an introduction to the island. The island was large and private so there was plenty of space for everyone. No one was close enough to hear another party's conversation. The island consisted of many different activities. The excursion included all you can eat Mayan food and spirits. The bottomless house drinks were served at a 360 bar with swings attached on the perimeter. The bar played light tropical music and had motorized fans if you were hot. For those who did not want to walk to the bar, there were servers walking around the island who would willingly take your order and bring you a cold one. The first thing you notice is the mellow turquoise ocean. Next to the ocean is a shack were you can rent water sport equipment. All equipment that does not include a motor is free. There are ten different hammocks swaying in the ocean. I spent most of my time in the hammock because it was the most relaxing sway ever. There are also several comfortable daybeds and chairs on shore as well. For the more adventurous, there are organized games such as a water balloon toss going on. There are also a few basketball goals and other sports. One unique feature of the island is the tequila-tasting hut. There's a small hut where an advisor will allow you to taste tequila made in Mexico. I'm a tequila lover so this feature was super cool for me. The tequila does not have the harsh after taste of the American brands such as 1800. The Mayan food was light and healthy. The plate included familiar items as well as foreign fruits such as guava, star fruit, and papaya. When our time came to an end we still had a little more fun. The Twister was our ride back to the docking port! This is a great feature for those who want to take it out with a bang. This tour made me interested to see the rest of Cozumel. Although the tour was three hours, I wish it were longer because you need more time in such a beautiful place. I give the excursion a 4.7 only because of the length of time. I would highly recommend this excursion to people of any age or background. It's the perfect mixture of relaxation and thrill. read more
