We came here with Scuba Cancun (across from Royal Cancun in the hotel zone) to specifically dive here; an experience unique only to the Yucatan Peninsula. It took us about 2 hours to drive here with 1 stop. Our driver checked in at the front desk and then drove another 10 min along an unpaved road to get to the front of the cenote. You climb down a couple slippery stairs and the mouth of the cenote opens up. Like the others, this one was absolutely still and gorgeous. Unlike the others, this place didn't have tons of people. Mostly divers who were there to go through the labyrinth of cavers. Like I said, we came with Scuba Cancun and our dive master Chris took 4 of us through 2 pathways on 2 tanks. Diving here was unbelievable. The water is completely still and it is crystal clear (provided someone doesn't kick up silt). There are 2 kinds of fish that I could see that live here. One that looks like a dull colored molly/guppy of some sort and the other is a catfish. The largest no more than 6-8 inches in length. If you go in with skin exposed, they will nibble on you... so keep that in mind. The cavern is about 50 ft deep at max. There is a rope that the divers use to guide their path in and out. It is very difficult to describe and if you google image this place you'll begin to get a sense of what the divers see. In some areas it's pitch black with the exception of a single beam of light from a partially caved in ceiling that shines down like a moment from Indiana Jones. If you go through one of the paths, you can go to the bat cave where they're all hanging upside down as you take a rest before continuing. This place is NOT ideal of children. I would recommend this place primarily for divers or those who are swimming (gently) across the surface. There isn't enough room for diving or jumping in. There are bugs here so be careful to not be bit by mosquitoes. Toilets are available but there's no toilet paper here fyi. This place apparently had a Mayan name before but then was switched over to Taj Mahal and then to Taj Ma ha. One of the most spectacular dives we've been on. Highly recommended for those who want to experience something new!

The water is... refreshing.. many opportunities for great photos... keep in mind that you cannot wear bug spray or sunscreen as it it harmful to the fish in the Cenote. They will ask you to rinse your body prior to entering the Cenote.. bring an underwater camera as the pictures are soooo beautiful underwater.. I recommend bringing snorkel gear because it is a site to see underwater. Enjoy!!

We came here with a tour guide around 11am in February, and the water was not only cold, but there were not many fish. When there were fish, it was the same type of fish over and over again. Maybe she just didn't take us to the right places, but I didn't see anything that excited me. I probably wouldn't want to come here again to snorkel. There are probably much better places for it!

Yal Ku happened to be the lagoon our guide took us to. Didn't get to explore the area too much but theres a parking lot, small changing rooms, bathrooms, and a small restaurant. Several other groups were there trying to snorkel at the same but it wasn't overly crowded. We first went and got our supplies...lifevests, goggles and fitted them. Once everyone was fitted we jumped into the water and were instructed to go to a certain area of the lagoon. Some areas had slightly poor visibility--I mean, it is a lagoon, can't expect too much. Some cool things I saw included this huge school of sardines swimming right next to me and some rainbow colored fish in another area. Almost didn't want to leave the water because I was so excited to explore. Made me want to book a snorkeling trip to an island asap... Anyway, when you do come out to the parking area, you might run into the ice cream man with those pinwheel crackers~get some!

It was pretty busy when we went, but there's plenty of space all around. You can tell the people who work here really care about the preservation of this space and wanted to take care of it. The guide was very nice and made sure we knew all of the safety precautions before getting in. There are a few entry points and areas to jump in. We left our stuff laying around and it was very safe. Definitely have snorkels ready so you can see all of the beautiful fish. Try and find the blue lobster!

They have a few different cenotes but the biggest one is all the way to the end. One side is very deep, and the other is a bit shallower. I recommend taking water shoes there are lots of rocks that are very slippery. On the deeper end they have an area where you can jump down from a high area. We did jump it was fun. The water on the deeper end is so clear and beautiful and I recommend going to the caves on that side as well if you know how to swim. Also bring googles so you can look under the water and see the beautiful clear water and the fish down there.

As others have noted, no sunscreen or lotions are permitted to preserve the eco system. Bring your water shoes!! There are lots of areas when you can cut your feet. If you go to the last area, and sit down on the edge, take your shoes off and the fish will come to nibble at your feet.

As an English speaker, I'm not sure that the guided tour was worth it as the Spanish portion and explanations were long and the English versions were condensed (my bf understood both and said we got shortened versions). Most of what we got we already knew from googling. However, the all inclusive tour included food - which might be more worth it finances wise. The tour guide will walk and talk and show you each cenote, swim together in cenote 5 (you can't have access here as a self guide) for exactly 25 minutes. Then once the tour is done you're free to explore in your own. That lasts about 1.5 hours. We then had lunch - choice of pork chun, fish fillet or fish tacos. On the menu it ranges from 130 to 200 pesos a dish already. But included in tour, we got chips and salsa, fruit water (pineapple this time), our meal, and ice cream! After, we went back to swim and check out the spots really quick. Truly, it was pretty quiet and for the most part we had it to ourselves. 3 hours is plenty of time

We were looking for the perfect place to spend our last day on the Riviera Maya, and we found it in…read morethe charming little beach town of Akumal. Although, finding the actual beach club was NOT an easy feat - but well worth it in the end. The Akumal Beach Club is managed by the Lol-Ha restaurant, and entry includes a palapa, loungers, access to restrooms/showers, and service from the restaurant. We had quite a bit of trouble finding the place, so here's the lowdown: When you arrive in Akumal, vendors lining the road will try to sell you their tours and parking. You aren't required to stop, although they may make you feel obligated. A simple friendly wave and "gracias" will get you past them. Soon, you'll pass a 7-11 on your left, and a little farther down an OXXO on your right. Take a hard right immediately past the OXXO (there's a small-printed sign that's easy to miss) and let the parking attendant know you're heading to Lol-Ha. You'll drive quite a way, down the very bumpy road and past the charming cottages of the Hotel Akumal Carribe. You'll maybe even think you've gone far enough, but you don't want to park until you get to the very end, where there's a short path to the beautiful, open-air Lol-Ha restaurant. You've arrived! At the restaurant there's a booth where you can buy your admission to the beach club. See, I told you it was a bit complicated - but worth it! During our visit, it was $700 pesos (about $35) each for a palapa for two, plus $275 pesos (around $14) each for additional guests in your palapa. We were given wristbands (which allowed access to the on-site restrooms and showers) then shown to our absolutely humongous palapa! It easily fit the four of us and kept us shaded all day. Soon, the waiter from Lol-Ha arrived and took our orders. We enjoyed a variety of tropical beverages and a couple of buckets of cold beer under the palapa, took a swim in the incredibly shallow and warm waters of the Caribbean, then grabbed a table at Lol-Ha for a final day feast that included some of the best food we'd tried on the trip. (Note: the food/bev isn't included in the beach club price.) We stayed as long as we could, until the sun finally started to fade, and were sad to leave. But also felt quite lucky to have found this incredible gem of a spot in lovely Akumal.

First off, do not use Apple maps to find this place as it will divert you to some dive shop in the…read moremiddle of town. You'll need to use Google maps to get you to the exact location. This was our very first cenote on this trip. It's 500 pesos for adults and 250 pesos for kids that are less than 4'5" or so. Cash only. (If paying in US dollars, it's $30 US and $15 for children.) Be sure to collect your ticket. There is free parking out front as well. Once you go in, there are outdoor showers that you are expected to use to rinse off. No sunscreen is allowed. And before you get your Personal Flotation Device (PFD), they will check that you have showered. However, no one is actually watching you as you rinse off as some reviews have mentioned. They'll also provide a snorkeling mask too. You'll need to walk down some stairs and there's an option to rent a locker for 30 pesos. Some people left their belongings unattended, but you'll get a key for your locker and they'll hold your ID card until you return the key. It's a small area to snorkel around and you'll see a lot of turtles. There are some darker areas, and a waterproof flashlight would have been very useful during those parts. The water is super clear, so let's keep it that way. There's a large grassy area to dry off and relax. I would suggest bringing some snacks if you want to relax out in the sun because it does get cold in the water after awhile. There are no in and out privileges though. Overall, it's a nice little cenote to visit. I would recommend 1-2 hours depending on how much time you want to swim around. Park hours: 8:10 am to 4:45 pm, last entrance at 4:15 pm.

Locker rental was 30 pesos and equipment rental (livejacket) was included, just need to leave a security (ID, passport, etc) The experience was amazing as you get to swim along fish and turtles. You get to see them in action underwater. The sights underwater are incredible. The water is pretty clear and a bit chilly at the beginning but as you keep on swimming your body temperature adapts to it and it gets used to it Overall, it was really pretty and an amazing experience. Definitely worth coming here and checking it out. : )
