We went on a Saturday for lunch. It feels like you are dining in someone's home. The owners are on site and it is a family run business. We ordered a variety of food to try. They have daily specials. We had the Kare-Kare which is a peanut sauce on oxtail. The Lechon Kawali is pork belly with a crispy skin. It was very good quality. The Pork Pancit Bihon made with thin rice noodles was delicious. Our favorite was the sigsig. It is crispy minced pork and onion. The Ube cake is made by a local baker and tasted very fresh. There is free parking in the attached lot. read more

I adore Filipino food; and when my Filipino pal Dennis showed off his meals at a local eatery via social media, I had to go and try it. Back in a small retail area near SE 17th Street, this restaurant apparently opened in late 2019 and then had to close because of the pandemic. But it returned and now offers homemade food with terrific service. The place is small, seating about 30 in an at-home-at-the-dining-table style. Our server, who I think was an owner, was very friendly and even helped us choose a dish. We had to have lumpia, because it was one of the first Filipino foods we ever tried (decades ago). Although these were good, my friends' (shoutout to Analisa and Belinda) native eggrolls were much better. For our main entrees we had the adobosilog and the tapsilog. The adobo dish came with white rice topped with a fried egg, some shaved carrots, a couple of slices of cucumber and tomato. The adobo, though a tad salty, had a delicious soy-vinegar flavor and brought me back to the dish my pal Joe made for us a couple of times. The tapsilog was shaved beef that came with the same accompaniments but it was so salty that I had to mention it when the lady asked me how things tasted. She went and told the chef. (I did not complain about the adobo.) And he insisted that the price of the meal be removed from our bill. Ummm. OK. We splurged on dessert and shared the last piece of Ube (purple yam) cake (bought from an outside vendor) and a halo-halo. The cake was smooth and not too sweet. The halo-halo was shaved ice with ice cream, milk, and a variety of ingredients including beans, corn, and plain gelatin cubes. You have to mix it all up to get a good flavor. Hubby did not care for it because it was not sweet enough (yet he refused to add some condensed milk). It was my favorite dish of the entire meal. (I love cold, creamy, not-so-sweet desserts.) The portions don't match the price. While you get a humungous mound of rice, the meat is skimpy and entrees average about $20 each. And like most small places, there is a surcharge if you use a credit card instead of cash. Even with one meal removed, our bill was about $55 and would have been closer to $80. We do plan to go back and try some other dishes. Let's hope the salt content has lessened. (Remember chef: you can add salt but you can't remove it.) read more

A great spot for Filipino cuisine in Fort Lauderdale! This place is a lil taste of Home; the Philippines. Definitely a hidden gem, it's in an unsuspecting plaza which actually houses quite a couple of Filipino spots including a buffet-style restaurant (Grace's) and even aFilipino market. I would've never found this place without Yelp and their feature on the "10 Filipino dishes you have to try and the top places to try them" Yelp blog. The spot is intimate and a bit small but packs a punch in providing all the comforts of a Filipino household. When we got inside, it truly felt like a piece of the Philippines from the welcoming staff, to the style of the tables and chairs, and the decor. They even had standing fans helping keep the place cool which truly reminds me of home. I loved their decor including the saying, Taga Saan Ka on their wall which means "Where are you from". They had cute little signs that include many different areas of the Philippines and other places including USA, Cuba, Brazil, etc. Such a cute idea and spot to take a photo! We had to take one when we found the places where our families came from- Bicol & Cavite. Their menu is pretty extensive and includes all the popular Filipino dishes you can think of. They even have a board with some specials that rotate and, to my surprise, they had Bicol Express that day- a treasured dish of where my family comes from. We didn't get it this time but hopefully next time I come, I'll get to try it. We got the singang (my all time fav) and they asked if we'd like it sour to which the answer is always 100% yes. We also got some lumpia (Filipino eggrolls) and ended with the famous dessert- Halo Halo. The sinigang na baboy (sour soup with pork) was good and definitely on the sour side (yay) but I wasn't the biggest fan of the type of pork they used. I might have to try it again with a different protein but I do have to say that I'm a pretty tough critic when it comes to sinigang. The lumpia and halo halo were both a hit! They offer the halo halo in a small and big size but the small was good enough to feed me and my intern! They also have some baked goods like a ube cheesecake brownie bar, ensaymada, and ube cake. Wow! Such amazing Filipino cuisine. When reading the menu, I was at a total loss since I've never had this type of cuisine before. I don't remember what I got, but whatever the owner recommended was really good. Whatever had been left on my plate went home with me. The appetizer of dumplings and Lumpiang was also very tasty as well. Parking was a little confusing and we ended up parking a little further down the lot from the restaurant, but once we found a spot and walked down the lot, we were able to find our way. But I would say Isla is the exception to the rule. You can taste the quality and the love they put into their food, drinks and desserts. It's a very small restaurant. Family-owned. One of the best, if not the best Filipino restaurants I've been to. My Mom is an awesome Filipino cook so we barely love other people's food. We ordered the dinuguan, pancit kawali x 2, steamed white rice, pork bbq x 2, melon juice drinks, Ube cake and halo halo. Everything was exceptional. Lechon was crispy. Pancit was tasty and not oily. The halo halo was truly a mix of all the essential ingredients - including leche flan and Ube. You won't regret eating at this hidden gem! Cherry on top is the owners are the sweetest family! They are so hospitable and gave us tips on places to come to in Fort Lauderdale. First off, the service here is unbeatable. From walking in those doors we were greeted with a big smile and a warm heart which reflects greatly in their food! It was my first time trying philipino food, but my boyfriend is from Hong Kong and went to the Philippines quite often so he was my guide. It was great to see the owner and him chat about experiences. She was able to recommend a dish for me as a new taster (the tapsilog) which quickly became our favorite dish! Beyond the amazing food, this restaurant is memorable because of the homestyle setup of their tables - it makes you feel like you're enjoying a meal at someone's house. Because there's not much filipino food around anywhere, this place is your only option. It's not bad, the food is pretty good. It is a bit pricey though. I was a bit disappointed they ran out of the Ube ice cream for the halo halo and it tasted Okay. I personally wouldn't order the halo halo again though. I remember the menu prices aren't quite up to date so they should update that. (It's because I remember one of the servers apologizing to me that the halo halo is actually a $1 or $2 difference).
