We saw this place about a month ago when we were in the strip mall at another eatery. Today, hubby suggested we try it for lunch on the way home from a morning meeting in the area. On entering at about 12:20 p.m. the buffet that's supposed to begin at noon was just being set up. So we decided to wait and try it. At about 12: 40 p.m. it was ready. I would try to use the proper names of the dishes in the buffet but I am afraid I am going to get them wrong. So it's easier to name the main ingredients. The beef stew (nihari) was very pleasing to the eye but not the palate. It was very dry. The cowfoot stew is probably an acquired taste. But the bits of tendons fell easily off the bone and were tasty. The vegetarian options were the best with a potato dish made of squares of potato in a curry gravy, a chic peas stew, a scrambled egg and vegetable mixture (anda bhaji--that was my favorite), and a (sweet) potato casserole that served nicely as a dessert for the meal. You can get rice, naan, paratha, and pouri to accompany your meal. We got one of each and shared them. The restaurant seats about 25 or more. We were the first ones there but the place soon filled. At one point, of the 16 patrons having lunch, we were the only ones that didn't seem to be of Pakistani descent. A table of men all had burgers, but I am not sure what kind. The restaurant sells a few kinds and special ones. I only saw three people working at Khan Baba. Two who came out from the back once or twice (cooks?) and young man who did all the work up front (take orders, serve, etc.). I guess because he was alone, tables were not being cleared as he concentrated on fetching meals, breads, drinks, and ringing up those who wanted to leave. Finally a Pakistani restaurant with seriously authentic dishes. The Karahi Chicken, Beef Seekh Kabobs, garlic naan and mango lassi are very close to what I grew up eating in Lahore. Met Chef Medassir and he graciously came out and asked how the food tasted. Kamal Khan and daughter Fatima are the owners and very gracious, the ambiance is very clean and comfortable. If you are looking for the real deal, this is it. I have attached photos of the buffet which represents the best of Pakistani cooking. I came here earlier tonight, and ordered a drink with some garlic naan. (And a chicken biryani to go) I was amazed and delighted to find out that the $3 garlic naan is a perfect, warm, pizza sized naan covered in fresh butter, garlic, and spices. It's crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The chicken biryani had the same wow factor in terms of quality and portion. The rice is basmati, and it's fluffy and moist. They do not skimp out on the garam masala. It's packed with potatoes, onions, and it has full chicken drums in it. It's a $16 meal that I would consider to be bordering on catering size. I'm not even halfway through it, and I'm full. It's amazing. If you love great food at a low price, you have to try this out. This is fine dining quality food at fast food pricing. I'm not kidding. The icing on the cake is that this restaurant has a comfortably quiet vibe, and the staff is very friendly. It's not packed. It's perfect for when you have a group and want to be able to hear yourselves. I can see why most new customers become regulars. It's a shame I don't live near here. My biggest pet peeve is not being greeted at a business. When I came in (I want to say the owner) was sitting down at a table on their phone doing something. A couple minutes went by and then he just stood at the counter. Not a greeting then. Okay.. whatever I'm starving. I asked a question about an item and he answered it but when your menu doesn't give details about exact ingredients, I'm going to ask questions. Well I ended up getting the veggie paratha roll. I didn't know it had a ton of raw onions on it. It came with fries and I order a sada chai. The fries.. were meh. I'm just not a fan of battered or seemingly battered fries. The amount wasn't that much as well. The food had a bit of spice to it. Which I wasn't warned of but I was good with it. The food was decent. The chai wasn't sweetened which I was okay with and the man at the counter said it wasn't. Overall, just a small bit of customer service goes a long way. Also, explaining what the dish is to people who may not know the cuisine would be helpful. Or at least don't seem uninterested when someone asks you a question. There was only the gentleman at the ordering counter that we saw. He was kinda helpful but maybe not the most engaging. The food was ok and a bit reminiscent of other Indian or Caribbean flavors. Recommended by a Pakistani gentleman, this is the real deal. Ordered Naan, Chicken Tikka and Chana Masala, all being delicious and more importantly , authentic. We went there on a federal holiday, so was fairly uncrowded, and were greeted and taken care of graciously by the owner, Mr. Khan. Definitely planning to go back to try some other dishes, or perhaps just go for their weekend buffet to sample their specialties. I'm really disappointed to have to write this review but folks should know, especially if time and value and service is important to you. Avoid this restaurant fully, without question. It is not worth it at all. We showed up, ordering at 7:45pm. Our food arrived to us at 8:30pm. That's 45 minutes of waiting for a mutton biriyani with one chapli kaba and zarda sweet for $19.99. We also ordered a falooda for $12 and a doodh pathi chai for $3 which never came, so I promptly requested a refund (after waiting at the counter for 5 minutes for someone). The phone rang off the hook but the staff took forever to answer it. There were multiple angry customers mad at the staff for late food, cold food, and no food. Water wasn't available for free, only bottled, which is a bit silly for a $40 meal. The worst part is, the biriyani plate was small. Think half the size of a Chipotle rice bowl. And the biriyani came with two, cold chunks of goat. That's right, only two pieces (see the photographs for proof). Again, $20 worth of food should not be so stingy. Plus the zarda rice was not cooked fully, resulting in hard, tough to chew rice. The establishment is clearly understaffed. They were patient. They kept saying "just one more minute." But the atmosphere was unhappy customers everywhere. You try eating your meal with one person after another getting mad at the owner for food they ordered 45 minutes to an hour ago. Please, support other local businesses. This one needs more refinement. May God make it easy for the owners. read more

The chai is amazing! Dood patti or karak. Both are very well done! My go to place for chai when I'm in town. Parking is plenty. Service is good when it's good. Seems like a staple for the community. Relatively new Pakistani (Karachi) based fast food joint with great selection of Pakistani snacks, appetizers, and food. We really liked their Zinger burger. The wrap was good (nothing special). The aaloo paratha (potato stuffed tortilla) was a little too salty. Rabri Falooda was really good and is definitely their staple. Also really enjoyed the Anarkali (pomegranate) chaat. The service is wonderful. The owner definitely feels like a community uncle who makes sure you get good food and service. KHAN BABA (CHAI KHANA), 1755 N. University Drive, Plantation Khan Baba, a new fast-casual/takeout Pakistani in Sunrise, in the same shopping plaza as Jerusalem Market (a great middle eastern store with groceries, meats, pre-prepared foods, and food to order) and Al Natour Restaurant (excellent middle east). For those not familiar with Pakistani cuisine, being part of south Asia, it shares dishes with and other aspects of Indian (notably Punjabi) cooking, but they do eat meat (and notably, beef), and as it is a predominantly Muslim country; the food is halal and has Islamic influences. It's also typically spicier than the North Indian food that is common in the US and is NOT dumbed down for American or British audiences. As it was just myself, I only ordered a few appetizer-like things -- a papri chaat (cold spicy street snack of chickpeas, onions, cilantro, crunchy fried samosa pastry, tamarind chutney, chaat masala spices), aloo samosa (spicy potato stuffed fried pastry), aloo paratha (potato stuffed tandoor cooked wheat bread/pancake), shami kebab (spicy ground minced beef patty). All delicious. Mango lassi (yogurt shake) was delicious. The fried "zinger" chicken sandwiches, which this place is known for, looked fabulous (I'm not a huge chicken fan, but I'm kicking myself for not ordering one), and I snapped a photo of them and the biryani (spicy rice dish with meat -- tonight was goat) Go--it's a clean place with nice owners. This is my third time having lunch with my family. The first time was to go order while I was shopping next door. I met the owner and had a good conversation. The food was wonderful, especially the goat curry and chicken Biryani, which are not like Indian cooking. The second time was the weekend lunch specials, so I could taste a variety of dishes for $16.99. We ordered Falooda and Chai. I love the Falooda. The taste is exactly what I remember back home!! Today, at lunch, there were more customers than there used to be, and restaurants shot two employees. We ordered a lot of food!!!The food is still delicious. The owner apologizes for the slow service. If I were a first-time customer, I would not return, and my review would be one star. But I will definitely be back and enjoy the home cooking at a small-town-style family-owned restaurant.
