I really enjoy my shopping experience at IAH! I was there the other day to buy a Milwaukee M18, 12 amp hour battery (which are quite expensive),so Marc had to unlock it for me and I was telling him that one of mine wouldn't take a charge anymore. Judith was standing nearby and said the battery may still be under warranty and Marc chimed in and told me that his uncle Alex knows a way to reset the battery , so it will take a charge. I have never had such impeccable customer service in my 44 years in the construction field! The IAH employees truly understand hardware and the spirit of Aloha!! I bought the battery and thanked them for all their help. The next day, I took the advice that Marc had learned from his Uncle and brought a $300 battery back to life! Great store with helpful staff. Smart inventory that is suited for light maintenance and emergency repairs. This is not a Home Depot Super Store. What folks from the mainland need to leave at the Lihue airport is the expectation that you are in Southern California with the thousands of big box retailers and infinite choices. Living on the North Shore takes a different mindset and planning - which some folks, like the older "get off my lawn you damn kids" reviewer below, do not have. Locals on Kauai do things at their pace. Deal with it or go home. Your cranky vibe and joyless life follows you where ever you go. My family loves the quite, slower life of the North Shore and have no interest in having it become like Orange County filled with toe tapping stress cases who beat up on under paid retail workers and who are only happy when they're unhappy. Let's not forget: the white man straight-up stole Hawaii from the indigenous people - then enslaved them on plantations. This after killing 95% of them with introduced disease within a couple years of ole Capt Cook landing. Look it up. They owe you NOTHING . . . much less snappy retail service. Don't care attitude towards customers, this isn't the first time I've encountered this at this store. Worth the drive really to go to Kapaa or Lihue locations. Employee in painting on an obvious personal call on 12/11/20 & keeps talking after clearing my throat twice, I finally asked if he was on a personal call, he says yes. Hello; I would like everyone to know how much I enjoy shopping at our northshore hardware store ( Island ace Hardware in Princeville shopping center) I used to feel intimidated when my carpenter husband would send me in on supply pick-up missions. (Gee, this must be how he would feel if I asked him to pick me up a cheese grater @ Macy's housewares!) But the staff is so helpful I have never felt foolish. I have so many great shopping memories; among them: the time my car hood latch broke off and the nice young man tied it closed for me; so I could make it safely back to Kilauea and refused a tip but made sure I went straight to our Kilauea mechanic to have it repaired; the time my favorite shelf paper was discontinued and Terry (owner) went on line and got me the last 7 rolls from 3 different states! Another time.......I could go on! The store carries everything imagineable for all your hurricaine needs, Batteries to decks of playing cards. They have an amazing gardening dept, paint dept, housewares dept., (I have found the sweetest cabinet door and drawer handles), auto supplies, I get my headphones there too. My newest favorites are the Mrs. Meyers cleaning products. .So; for all your shopping need from nuts and bolts; to flowers; to candy and icecream; I urge you all to visit our very own northshore hardware store. Oh to those of you whine about the high prices.......shipping costs make everything on the northshore expensive..................but the views free! I don't live on the north shore, but if I did, I'd definitely recommend Island Hardware. They go out of their way to get what you need. If it's not in stock and you need it badly, I've known the manager to go someplace else and get it for the customer in a very short time! That's what I call customer service! Island Hardware is like a hometown hardware store. They don't have everything, but what they have is a selection of what ever you may need to get the job done. From nuts and bolts to dog food and hammers. I even got a great buy on glass vases there! What I really l like about them is that they care. They give back to community and those in need, not just here on Kauai but all over the world. I remember after 9/11, when they gave a percentage of their sales to the Disaster Relief Fund of New York City. That's something not every small business would go out of their way to do. Convenient, but very pricey. For example, a large bottle of hydrogen peroxide costs about $5.50. You get can an even larger bottle at Walmart, Lihue for about $1.50. Very happy to have this store in Princeville to avoid long drives for last-minute hardware necessities, but prefer Home Depot when I'm doing major projects, or stocking up. read more

We just relocated and moved from back east to kauais north shore. We purchased a home that there are quite a few things that need to repaired,'re done or removed and replaced and we will be doing everything ourselves. We were told to do all our shopping at the home depot in Lihue as it wad much less expensive and had a greater selection and more knowledge. Staff. We have gone there three times so fat and every time the staff there was rude.made us wait or we we're ignored. Thel ong drive all the way there and back throughout traffic would take a half a day and a lot of gas as we'll as drain our energy etc. Well today we tried the island hardware at the princeville center and were very impressed. First of all the store was only ten min from our home. the store is very well. stocked with everything we. were able to think of that we may need. now yes it is a bit more.costly than the home depot with less of a selection but the money we would save on gas and the time and energy and stress much less by not having to go into Lihue and back easily makes things equal. the thing that Impressed us the most and sealed the deal for us was the staff. friendly.knowledge and helpfu. One person who was excellent and went out of his way to locate,explain and show us the pros and cons of similar products was"MAKA".We had a.bunch of heavy items. and without being asked by us or the staff he was at the checkout counter loading everything on a cart to take out to our truck. After he loaded everything he thanks us!!!I handed him a five dollar tip but he politely said it was not necessary. We asked,pleaded almost begging him to accept It as our appreciation for his help. his reply to all of this was that if. we were to bump into each other again in the princeville island hardware store again in the future that would be better than anything! He then took a brief min or two to tell us about a secret local waterfall by his home where we could find some flora and maybe even a few fruit trees that had ripe fruit. if we were lucky! The lady at register was also very pleasant as well. We will no longer be taking the drive to Lihue for our hardware needs! Today we experienced the aloha spirit in full bloom! Thank you! read more
