Over…read morethe past 20 years I have bought paint in more than a dozen paint stores (in Shreveport, New Orleans LA, Jackson, WY and Kauai HI) as a professional painter. I have received mostly good service and a little bad service in those stores. This particular tale is about one person at one of those stores who always provides exceptional service. Recently she took it so far over the top I had to write something about it. Seven years ago I was building a small house for my wife and myself on Kauai. I chose the closest pro paint store (as opposed to a hardware store or big Box store) to get my paint and supplies. That happened to be Pittsburg Paint in Kapaa. It is managed by Rachael who this story is about. During the 3 months it took me to paint the house inside and out she offered the best and most knowledgable service I had ever received. Then five years ago we had to move away with no hope of coming back to our little house. Circumstances changed fortunately and we are back. The house had been rented for four of the years we were gone and needed some painting. My wife and I stopped in at Pittsburg Paint and Rachel was still there. The old paint that was still at my house had been in a flood and so the can labels were unreadable and I assumed the paint (now 7 years old) unusable. We took the cans into Rachel to see if she could figure out what our colors were. She ask to keep the paint which I thought was unusual but I trust Rachel, so we left it with her. To our surprise she took the paint and put it in new cans, found our old file which was still in her files and figured out each color for each room. Then when we came in to buy some more paint offered us the old paint. Neither my wife or I knew what to say except, thank you. Took the paint home tested each color on the walls and they were each just right. Below is a picture of the new/old paint. In my opinion this is service so far above what is expected and my experience, it is almost unbelievable. Unfortunately Rachel does not own the paint store she runs so well so will never be rewarded as much as she should for her exceptional care, work and knowledge. I'm sure that the chain Pittsburg paint is not rewarding her enough for the kind of customer care she offers. If you ever need paint this is the place to go and I would way out of my way to use paint from Rachel.

David from SW made his recommendation on the color and type of paint according to our needs. I gave SW's emerald paint a try and I will never go back to Home Depot for paint. The hubby was able to paint our interior walls and the fumes were fairly non-existent and the quality of paint was excellent. Our maroon walls were painted in origami white in two coats. The other hardware stores did not carry Sherwin-Williams paint and I found out that there was a S-W Paint Store in Kapolei. This store is tucked away in the Kalaeloa Industrial Center of Kapolei and next to a Bikram Yoga Studio. All I had were the names of the colors and was easily overwhelmed trying to find the particular paint swatch. I figured it would be easier to ask CASEY (the only employee in the store at that time) to help me find it. He took down the names and quickly tracked them down and gave me the paint "swatches" in a very quick manner! No waiting at all! He was so thorough and courteous! I even had him looking for a color that I was certain was a Sherwin-Williams brand only to find out that it was a Benjamin Moore product. When asking about how effective those apps are that give you an idea of how a color will look in your room is he informed me that colors change throughout the day, depending on how the sun or lack of it hits a room and hence, that app is probably not the best way to decide on a paint color. He suggested buying the smallest size paint and having them tint it to my specifics (the paint was only $7-8.00 a can) and then applying that color onto the wall in a medium size patch and see how I liked it at different times of the day. Great advice!! I made the "mistake" of painting a wall in my house three years ago without a sample paint and I haven't been happy with it since then. Hubby isn't thrilled either since I'm asking him to re-paint that wall again. Either that or go with one of Sherwin-Williams's preferred contractors (listed in their showroom). Either way, I'm pretty sure I've narrowed down my color choice down to 3-4 colors and I'm a ba-zillion percent sure that THAT is the right color. Again, SUPER GREAT customer service from Casey!!

Everyone there is really great but my standouts are Judy, Linda and Alex. Tiny Island life is a huge change for this big city woman. They have been so helpful with the adjustment to this way of life. The Aloha spirit in THIS Ace team has educated and encouraged me through the transition. Today I went in with a plethora of questions for Alex about my generator, gasoline, fuel stabilizers and gas cans . Never once was I made to feel like a dumb haole. He giggled a few times but I can come up with some doozy questions. It was all in a fun natured way. I can really overthink and over complicate the simplest things. Linda works the cashier and no matter how long a line she is always sweet as can be. We always look forward to her and her sweet natured way. Today, I met Judy the manager. My name is David Parsons…read more  I'm a small business owner having started 3 successful businesses in the services industry and own a marketing/consulting firm that works with top name-brand items on the mainland, US. I live full-time on the island of Kauai. Two of my service business - Hawaii Window Cleaners & Power Washing & Kauai Solar Cleaning are located here. I cannot speak more highly of Kyson and his team at ACE Ele Ele. I visit this store 2-3x per week over other ACE stores simply because of the personal service I've received by Kyson, Roger, and Vince at this location. I am willing to spend more here than at Home Depot (closer to my offices) to receive their personal assistance during shopping.  As a small business owner my time is money. Being able to walk in the door at Ele Ele Ace and instantly be greeted by a team member willing to help me find what items I need allows me to get out and onto the job site faster and with less returns for additional supplies.  I want to share two specific stories from 2024 that exemplify the care given by this store which has stuck with me over the year and caused me to sit down to provide positive feedback on their account. Story #1: Over the summer I serviced a new client through my window cleaning company - The Waimea Plantation Cottages by Coastline Resorts - a well known vacation destination on the west side of the island. The new account promised a HUGE contract and ongoing work. On our first job with the resort my crew and I completed a major window and screen clean of two of the largest cottages in the resort and at the end of the day we accidentally broke one screen frame. The job had to be done by 5pm for us to close the job as guests were arriving that evening.  I jumped in my car and drove to Ace Ele Ele hoping they had the custom screen channel (color and gage size) so I could repair the screen and replace it before we had to be done.  I arrived at ACE Ele Ele at 3:30pm. I was in the screen repair area and Kyson asked if I needed help as he could see I clearly was searching for something in haste. I showed him the screen channel and he proceeded to look with me. After 15 mins of searching through inventory I gave up. Kyson, on the other hand, didn't. He saw that he had one box left of the screen channel in the inventory records and was determined to find it. He continued to look for an additional 20 mins through every box that he had stacked in the back and HE FOUND IT! Kyson's selfless and persistent hunt for the product saved me the reputation of a successful job finished with a new client and a four hour trip to the north shore where they had the channel size at a different ACE. What is more, after leaving, Vince asked if it would be helpful for me to have the screen build quickly onsite and got it done in 15 minutes while I was at the bank. I was out the door by 4:30pm and back at the Waimea Plantation Cottages with the new screen installed by 5:05pm in time for the guests check-in. Story #2: Over the holidays I realized I was about to run out of propane. My wife was frantically preparing for family to arrive and she was preparing food when the propane stove started flickering as the gas was low. I jumped in the car and drove to Ace Ele Ele to have the tank refilled. When I pulled up I saw Roger at the propane bay. He could hear my two kids crying in the car (I have a 7-month old and a 2-year old) and he sprinted over to my car to help me with the propane. He proceeded to fill it up for me while I fed the baby and called it into the front. While I was paying for the propane he watched my kids and loaded the propane into the minivan for me. I was back at home with the new tank in less than an hour.  I cannot thank Kyson and his team enough for how much they actually care. Living on an island I experience so much complacency at businesses... employees not caring or taking any pride in the human interaction, the joy of leaving customers satisfied, and a job well done with a smile on.  Ace Ele Ele is the opposite. They are passionate, caring people always ready to help with a genuine sense of aloha. Mahalo.
