Marcello was a great instructor! Animated, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable about surfing…read more He had lots of stories and experiences to share-- I think hearing all the negatives helped normalize the challenges so when/if things happened we weren't panicked but could be more relaxed. He was very patient and prepared us well with what to expect and educated us on the foundations of surfing. Marcello and his son were really good about teaching the basics and helping in the water to get acclimated and coaching us on timing. We thankfully had perfect weather for learning-- this was the first time ever surfing for all of us but everyone in the group managed to be able to get up on the board to catch some waves! Would definitely recommend!

Our boys are 6 and 9 and Marcel and Victor were both GREAT with both kids and adults (the kids are the faster learners!) Marcel gave great explanations and then took us out (one at a time at first) on the waves and provided all the instruction we needed... all 4 of us had multiple successful rides before our lesson was through! We would definitely book with them again and highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique vacation experience!

Hillsboro Beach is a tiny Florida coastal town set on a peninsula between the Intracoastal and the…read moreAtlantic Ocean. Interestingly it has a connection to English nobility. The town was named after the Earl of Hillsborough, who was given land in Florida from the King of England after the First Treaty of Paris was signed where England gave up Cuba and the Philippines to Spain in exchange for receiving Florida. Hillsboro also has a rich history with the Barefoot Mailmen. The Barefoot Mailmen were eleven US postal workers who delivered the mail in South Florida from 1885 to 1893 by walking barefoot on the beach from Palm Beach to Miami. Before the mailman started the route, a letter from Lake Worth to Miami could take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to arrive and would be routed through Cuba. The annual salary of a Barefoot Mailman was $600 a year. The trip started on Monday and took three days to get to Miami, Then they would turn around and come back for a round trip of 136 miles. Eighty miles were walking and fifty six miles were by boat. The three day trek down the coast was not without it's danger. You can find a Barefoot Mailman statue in front of the Hillsboro town hall dedicated to James "Ed" Hamilton who mysteriously vanished in 1897 while crossing the Hillsboro Inlet. The mystery of what happened to Hamilton is fascinating. Was he eaten by an alligator, killed by native people, or did he drown? No one will ever know. Although Hillsboro Beach is small in size at only a little over three miles and 900 miles at its widest point, it has a lot of charm. The only road through town is A1A and here it is nicknamed Millionaire's Mile for the mansions that line it. The most prominent feature of the town is the 1907 Hillsboro Lighthouse which you can tour monthly with the Lighthouse Preservation Society. The beaches in town are all private. You can go to North Ocean Beach Park in Pompano Beach to the south or Deerfield Beach Park to the north. Hillsboro Inlet Park is a nice place to picnic and get a great view of the lighthouse. I always enjoy driving through this stretch of A1A when heading up the coast.

Had a great experience with Viking Surf Camp. My wife and I signed up for a lesson during Xmas week…read morewhen things are pretty busy. These guys checked the weather and surf conditions and gave us a time/place meet up spot to ensure maximum fun. Our instructor Chris was excellent. We each got a board as part of the lesson that fit our size. They tolerated our lateness and even gave us some extra time and were very understanding. The lesson started on land with some basic stretching, positioning, and understanding of stance and spring to standing. After that, we got right to it and Chris was amazing at helping us fight through the break and getting our boards to the right place and orientation. He gave us a 1-2-3 count each time to help us get the feel with surfing. As a beginner, I was able to successfully stand up and ride many waves throughout the lesson. It was immensely fun and Chris was a huge part of it. He was super positive and always encouraging even when we fell off immoderately or miss timed the waves. By the end of the lesson I felt pretty comfortable doing it on my own. These guys were one of the more affordable that we looked at when comparing a few different places including some in Miami where I think the surf is often worse. It was also a great work out too. I can't wait to get back on a board and surf again.

I took to long trying to get ahold of someone to get a full Groupon refund. I've seen their vans around Fort Lauderdale, so they must be in business still. They might be good once you get a hold of them, but don't prepay.

One of my favorite memories of growing up on South Florida was jet skiing around the intercoastal…read more Now that my kids are getting a little older thought they would enjoy a day on jet skis zipping around the intercoastal and so I rented them from Easton Watersports for 1.5 hours. Similar to a car you need to be 16 to drive one so my 11 year old daughter was on the back of mine and my 6 and 9 year old sons joined my husband. We met Dominic at the Pioneer Park- boat ramps in Deerfield Beach. Please note that this location is different than the address on the Yelp review since we were a bit confused ourselves. We started off slow getting used to the jet skis and also admiring the beautiful homes on the intercoastal. Then for about 30-45 minutes we got to go as fast as we could zipping over massive waves and holding on for dear life. I thought we were speed demons, but my thrill seeking daughter kept yelling at me that I wasn't going fast enough. My 9 year old son did fall off the back of my husband's jet ski, but he claimed that was the most fun part of the excursion. .And Dominic was nearby the entire time to help out in these situations and more, but overall we felt very safe. 1.5 hours was perfect and everyone had a great time. They declared it their favorite day in South Florida and made us promise we'll rent jet skis again on a future trip. Done!

People walking up on the beach asking the price were told $150, so the $30 reservation was pretty meaningless and seemed to be just an extra charge. Also, the area you can drive the jet ski in is pretty limited. Wish I would have known.
