    Jerk Chicken Plate
    Dora V.

Don't think twice, just stop at this truck! Fast, delicious, comforting, and full of that feel-good flavor! The beef patties, jerk chicken, and curry chicken were all fabulous. The curry chicken was my favorite, and I loved the extra section of sauce for dipping my rice and cabbage. If you see the truck and you are not hungry, go on and stop anyway. Get yourself some beef patties for later. They travel and reheat like champs! Pro tip: If you grab food at the Guess Street location and want to chow down fast, Westover Park is a lovely nook with picnic table just a few minutes away.

The chicken is dark meat served on the bone - and by on the bone, I mean falling off the bone, it's so tender and moist. There are also some carrots and potato bits in the gravy, and I would happily eat a whole bowl of just those. The rice and peas (beans) were perfectly cooked. When I ordered through the Toast tab screens they have set up, it gave the option of indicating whether and how much gravy you'd like on the rice. I did the standard amount, which I think is just right, as the rice balances out the saltiness of the gravy. The mac & cheese was also really good - creamy, with some chewy baked cheese crust, and a hint of tanginess. The large portion was a ton of food. I shared my plate with my toddler, who loved the chicken, and it would be enough for at least one more meal. I also got a chicken patty, which had a curried chicken filling that brought a bit of heat. Too spicy for little kids, but not so spicy that I was hurting from eating it. We ate in the restaurant, which is clean with several tables. It's counter service, and it seems like they pack everything as if it's to go, even if you dine in. For folks with kids, they do have a single high chair. I don't remember seeing a changing table in the ladies room.

Let me tell you, nothing about this place was unassuming or basic... IT WAS INCREDIBLE. From the service (warm , helpful & friendly) to the perfectly cooked food. We were impressed! Best curried goat I've ever eaten and the jerk chicken is done as it should be! Whether you get the rice and peas or the yellow rice, you can't go wrong bc both were fantastic and full of flavor. The collard greens had SO MUCH FLAVOR, I could eat a big bowl by itself! We can't wait to come back and get the oxtails and some other menu items, I think we will be very happy with anything they cook here!

"Delicious Honduran food just south of I-85 on Guess Rd in Durham"…read more Came here on a Saturday evening a little after 6pm-- this is the building that used to be "Pad Thai" a few years ago. There's parking out front, but not a ton, and a bit more along the side. Inside, there's a counter by the door with a register and mints (and probably where one would pickup takeout), but you wait to get seated. The place was bright with interesting Central American paintings and lively music. A few tables were taken but it was hardly what I'd call "busy". I ordered the Tajada con carne molida (fried plantains with ground beef) off the "Honduran menu". My dining partner had a creamy chicken mofongo. We also had Jarritos sodas-- I got the pineapple and she had the tamarind. One awkwardness was that the menu didn't have any prices, but I assumed (correctly) that nothing would be crazy expensive that we ordered (though weirdly the tamarind and pineapple Jarritos were different prices). Service was good-- although English was a second language, our server made do, accurately took our order, and was attentive. As other reviewers noted, this is not a speedy place-- I think it was at or maybe over 20 minutes to get our food, but that was fine. Both dishes were really good. The creamy sauce on the mofongo was to-die-for... so yummy. And I enjoyed my plantain/ beef dish-- my dining partner said it was somewhat analogous to "nachos" in a funny way, and she's not wrong. The plantains were pretty stiff-- almost like plantain chips, but still yummy, and the beef and accompaniments were excellent (see photo). The quantity was HUGE-- both of us had enough easily for a second meal. Price wasn't bad-- with the drinks and tax and tip, it was slightly over $50 total. Overall, I'm very happy we tried this place, and I have every intention of coming back.

I love how they had a lot of drink options, including fountain drinks, and special lemonades. We got here on the late side for lunch, and found there to be several different options for ordering. You could wait in line and order with a cashier, you could do a self service kiosk, or you could order from a QR code at a table. We ended up grabbing a table and opting to do it with a QR code. Everything was very clear, and I like that they showed what was popular immediately. I opted for a Boricua Soul Bowl, which I'd sampled during a food tour a few years back- then I tried it with chicken, so today I opted for shrimp. I feel like you really should go with pork since that's the default, and a mainstay of Puerto Rican cuisine and soul food, but alas I have an aversion to pork so I can't. I was also intrigued by the jackfruit option- there's something for everyone! My husband went for a platter with pork, which he said was delicious and rich. The Mac and cheese was amazing, and the collards were to DIE FOR! They have four house made sauces, which were a very fun way to add different flavors (I doused mine in Guava!). Since I've now been, I understand that there are many different methods of ordering, but I'm not sure I understand if there's a benefit or staff preference to one over another. I think one thing I might do in the future is order online (if you're using Toast Tab anyway, might as well order in advance) and then sit outside after I arrive. It took about 30 minutes to get our food, which probably means everything is made to order and fresh (as opposed to sitting around) so that's great, but I was STARVING by the time we got our food. Will definitely be back!

Came here after the Durham Farmers Market with a friend and wow this place was a surprise. …read more I went with the grain bowl and honestly it is one of the best I have had in downtown Durham. It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. It is finished with a crunchy mix of pepitas, nuts, and grains. The balance is quite ideal in my view. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. The vibe inside is festive and relaxed, bright and open, and just a fun place to hang out for lunch. Porbably not a special occasion. I also suspect it could get loud when full. This is definitely going into my regular rotation. That grain bowl is going to be hard to pass up next time, so instead of replacing it I will probably just add a side or an empanada and start working my way through the rest of the menu.

With their big lunch boxes, and delicious food, Jamaica Jamaica got me hooked on Jamaican/Caribbean food and I consider it one of my favorite cuisines. I'd say my Jamaica Jamaica life could be split into 3 segments, in which I would always get the same thing no matter what. My first phase was the curry chicken - such a fantastic dish with chicken that came off the bone, a vibrant curry sauce, and potatoes and carrots to round out the dish. When you paired it with rice, cabbage and plantains, it was an almost perfect meal. My second phase was the curry shrimp, I was always enticed by having a seafood option. The flavors of the curry shrimp were the same as the curry chicken, except the vegetables varied. I enjoyed this dish too, but I would say the biggest issue would be that the shrimp sometimes got really soft after sitting out for some time. My current phase is their Jerk chicken. I would say that their Jerk chicken is unique because they make the chicken, but they let it sit in a sauce that soaks up the seasoning. This is a great topper for my rice, but I think it contributes to the fact that the Jerk chicken is definitely not as flavorful as I know it to be. It misses the mark on bringing the heat, it has some flavor and heat but it is very very mild in my opinion. Generally speaking, I would be aware of the Jerk chicken drying out. This has happened to me on an occasion or two, along with the rice being dry too. Outside the realm of food, I would say the interior could use a little work. The furniture is a bit dated and things are cluttered. However, the staff working there is nice and they always pack the food in a big to-go container, so you can bring it back to the office, and then home because they are not shy about the portions. Glad that hasn't changed!

If we would have had more time, we would have left and went somewhere else. My fiancé and I actually saw two groups (7 people total) leave the restaurant after speaking with the people at the register. We ended up getting the Señor Iglesias Chicken Sandwich, which was good but very messy. The chicken isn't a patty and the bun isn't solid enough to hold the sandwich together so the tomato and chicken strips were constantly falling out. The Spanglish Cuban was very meaty and good as well. Not my type of sandwich but that's what I got from the bite I did have and my fiancé loved it. The pinto beans and steamed white rice were good. I probably won't return out of fear that I might waste time going there because if you don't have the empanadas during your lunch rush, when would you have it.
