Perfect location and a great variety of rooms. I really like the business model that everything (toiletries, furniture, bedding, etc) was being advertised and you could purchase if it struck you as that good! Which the bedding did. I didn't like that there wasn't a ton of privacy, and as soon as the sun was up, there was no way to keep the room dark for a few extra minutes of snoozing. Perfect location. Super clean and simply decorated. Comfortable bed. Helpful staff. This is a great base for a trip to San Juan Island. From here we walked to everything, including the island's best restaurants, killer grocery store, bike rentals, kayak trips, cafes, etc. We'd come back in a Seattle heartbeat. read more

We stayed in sweet 5 with our german shepherd in October. They were all VERY kind and more than happy to help with anything we needed. We had the package where we get breakfast every morning, which was great. The drinks were hot and the muffins and other breads were delicious. My favorite part was how dog friendly they were, they loved my puppy and provided a cute baggie of treats, a water and food bowl, and a dog bed that my dog adored so much we bought her a similar one once we got home. They also included doggie bags which was nice, but we brought our own because if we want people to stay dog friendly we have to prove to them that we are responsible dog owners!! (This is a hint to people about cleaning up their dogs mess.. this was not a problem at this hotel. Everything was very clean, let's keep it that way.) The patio was very nice and convenient for taking the dog out, and I loved how secluded it felt. We felt comfortable enough on the patio of sweet 5 to take our morning tea outside and enjoy the air, it's also beautiful to just walk right up the stairs and go to the viewpoint to look out over the beautiful ocean. The whole room was very luxurious and beautiful, the bathroom was very nice. Everything was very clean. I went down the street to the lavender shop and got some beautiful smelling lavender bubble bath and it made the whole room smell lovely. I'll be honest, we really cannot afford this place but it is actually one of the only places we could find that accepted dogs. We would be on San Juan island a lot more if we could afford more than 1 or maybe 2 nights. We had originally planned to just sleep in our van since no where affordable took dogs, but we happened to come on the few nights that everyone was anticipating a huge storm, and we learned the first night in the van that even light rain was scary to sleep outside in so we decided to stay in room for the storm. This review is certainly biased, as we got a generous upgrade to a penthouse suite during the off-season. However, it is easily the nicest place I have ever had the privilege of "habiting" for any period of time. Wow...every last detail was obviously attended to by someone with impeccable taste, with no compromises made. Harney and Sons tea by the stove (which has its own faucet). Beautiful hardwood floor. Remote-controlled fireplace. Large windows overlooking the harbor. AMAZING bed with a thread-count that I've probably never heard of (it was incredibly comfortable). Steam shower, fancy soaps and shampoo, heated floors, indoor garage parking. Again, biased review, but this place is incredible. read more

Thanks for your response however we can in after a long day around the island to only find our room half clean (housekeeper left cleaning rag on bedroom floor). The room basically looked the same as we left. We appreciate the follow-up and someone coming to re clean the room. This by far is one of our horrible experiences. We would expect more. Stayed in Suite 3, and it was amazing. it is steps away from the Ferry, and we arrived late so they went and picked us up food and had it waiting because the restaurants would be closed when we arrived. The front staff was very helpful, and I will definitely be coming here again. read more

What a great experience! We stayed in one of the Euros and it was perfect. The room was private, bigger than expected, and so comfortable. We arrived on the late ferry, and the staff was so accommodating despite it being after hours. There was jazz playing and free snacks in our room to welcome us:). The viewshare room was nice, as well-- perfect for a game night with friends who were staying elsewhere on the island. Wonderful location, wonderful inn, wonderful trip. read more

Penthouse 7 was our retreat for a long Easter weekend. Three nights were spent in the comfort and care of the Island Inn. What great lodging for an anniversary getaway with our pooch. Wonderful amenities, great Malin + Goetz products and despite our having a "pet" friendly unit, it was clean...and I'm very picky! The steam shower was a treat and the packet of granola and fruit were enjoyed each morning with our quick stop our first night at the King's market which is just a quick walk away. This place is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants and quaint shops. The staff were wonderful and love the different types of accommodations you can opt for at the Island Inn. Something for everyone. As we were off-season, street parking was available, but recommend the garage, you have a guaranteed spot. Highly recommend this place! read more

Not quite sure what the fascination with this place is. It is exceptionally clean, is in a great location and the staff is friendly and professional. But the standard rooms HAVE NO WINDOW, and only one of the better rooms has a balcony on the street. Nice idea but not so good on the execution. (Also, the bed in our room had seen much better days.) This is probably one of my favorite hotels I have ever stayed at. Everything was wonderful. We stayed in the Sweet room, which doesn't have a view of the gorgeous harbor the hotel was located on, but everything about the room made up for it. We took a ferry to the island, and we were not looking forward to a long walk from the wharf to the hotel. To my surprise, the inn was at an extremely convenient location, about a 1 minute walk from the harbor, and the inn keeper at the front desk was very pleasant and welcoming. The room was immaculate when we got there, and the staff added nice touches to the room that I probably wouldn't even have noticed. For example, there was a bowl of delicious fresh fruit on the counter when we got there, the refrigerator was stocked with complementary orange juice and milk for the coffee, also complementary. The patio was gorgeous, tons of privacy and very comfortable. The wifi was superb. I could go on, but you get the idea. If you visit San Juan, which I recommend, you MUST stay at this amazing inn. Great location with a great view. My husband and I stayed 1 night in one of the Euro rooms. The room was nice and clean. There are no windows in the Euro rooms, I thought it would bother me but having the large group sitting area with a great view made up for it. The only reason I gave 4 stars is our bathroom door was broken and I almost got locked in, I thought I was going to break the glass door trying to get out. I will stay here again next time I'm in town and maybe try one of the bigger rooms. read more

The beauty of this place is in its simplicity. Stayed in penthouse 1. Not inexpensive but worth the money. Beautiful views of the harbor in the morning. Minimalist but chic decor with a lot of space. A bowl of fruit and granola provided in the morning, popcorn to enjoy in the evening as you relax, light the fireplace and settle in on the couch for a movie. In the heart of town, next to the ferry terminal. My only regret is that I should have brought someone along for the experience... next time. read more

123 INN is not friendly to the disabled. We booked rooms for a wedding. The location to the venue was great. We pre-screened the 123 Inn to see if it would meet the needs of a disabled family member. We were shown 2 maybe 3 elevators. The hotel itself has many many many steep stairs that were almost impossible to climb for 2 family members. We checked in on the day of the wedding, only to find the elevators do not work. This is the conversation..... "your elevators are not working" "we know" "why?" "the doors" "all of them" no answer. "When did they brake?" "I don't know" "When are you getting them fixed?" "UH UH UH was the only answer they would give me." Made me wonder if the work at all? I am filing a complaint with the Fair Housing Enforcement Agency in Olympia to investigate. The hotel might be "green and European" because they furnished it from Ikea, but it isn't guest friendly, especially if you can not run up and downstairs 20 times a day. read more

I just stayed at 123 West and it is terrific! It has a hip modern design (no cutsie floral wall paper here!). It is walking distance from the ferry, shops and restaurants. It is a wonderful place to go for a special occasion or spacious enough to take the family. Finally a vacation place on the Island that is modern and relaxing! I stayed here for a winter business trip. Loved the location-right off of the ferry-no car necessary. You can walk to restuarants and shops. Loved the view of the harbor. Loved the facility-large and open-modern-clean-a place that is inviting and perfect for long stays. The owners are gracious and they did a remarkable job designing this facility to fit in with Friday Harbor. It might be a little busy around the location during the summer months-so not sure how noisy it gets outside then-but during the winter it was quiet and peaceful and perfect for my work environment as a writer. read more

If you are planning a trip to San Juan Island, you won't find a nicer hotel than this. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. The decorator did a superior job with the furnishings. The beds are super comfortable and the bathrooms rock! Your room comes with fresh fruit, local granola, milk, coffee, and orange juice. The views of Friday Harbor are amazing and the staff is very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be staying here on our next visit to the island. read more

I echo all the great things prior reviewers have said. Misty, the proprietor, has clearly put tremendous thought into design -13 foot ceilings, high end appliances, beautiful cabinetry, bedding and flooring. The art on the walls and even the color schemes are fantastic. We had a great view of the harbor from our penthouse (watching the ferries float across the water at night is exquisite). The staff is friendly and competent. They have an immaculate garage where we locked up our bikes. Above all that, the place is a very good value. I can't remember the last time I was wowed by a hotel -regardless of the price. This place did it. read more

We had a wonderful stay at the Island Inn, and we wish we could have stayed longer. Our room was clean, modern, but still homey. The steam shower is awesome. After 10 days of hiking, kayaking, biking in Seattle and Vancouver, the steam shower was exactly what I needed. Our stay at the Island Inn was the most relaxing, enjoyable leg of the trip. We spent our anniversary here and it was a dream. It was very private and the penthouse and it was worth every dime.

Our stay here was wonderful. The rooms/suites are so modern and comfortable. We went during the off season and they must have bumped us up to a huge suite. The shower had a sauna option--awesome!! Not only that, but it was my birthday, and they had left me a card and a little music box. How nice is that?! The people were so friendly and accommodating. We were even able to get a little kit for our dog who was along for the ride, which included treats, a bed, bowls, blankets, etc. They pay attention to the details with things like free oatmeal and OJ in your room. We recently visited the San Juans for our anniversary. We chose to stay at this hotel after considering several others, mostly other hotels that were less expensive, but they were all full. So, we probably had some high expectations considering the cost. The best part about our stay was the staff. They were nothing but helpful from the time we contacted them to make reservations, right up until the time we received a" thank you for staying" e-mail. They were accommodating, helpful and enthusiastic. We were also thrilled that the hotel has a policy to grant you a free upgrade if a nicer room is available when you arrive! We were able to stay in a "penthouse" rather than a "sweet" (their terminology). It was large, open, modern and although the rooms are arranged oddly with one room blocking another's view...we did have a little patio where we could see the harbor as well as large windows on one end allowing us to see the harbor from our living room. They offered us fresh flowers and fruit when we arrived in our room and left us a thoughtful card for our anniversary. But there were some obvious "negatives". There was juice, milk, coffee and granola for breakfast (my husband was NOT impressed that this was our "breakfast" considering the price of our room", but there was NO water or other drinks available...or ice?! There was a full kitchen with a full size fridge, but no ice or water. We had to go to the store for these items. This was NOT a hotel for an older visitor or one who may have mobility difficulties. There were lots of stairs, no elevators, and the bed was so low to the ground, some visitors may not be able to get out of bed in the morning. But...the sheets were luxurious, the bath products were nice and I was disappointed I couldn't take any home (there were no samples, only full size bottles). The towels were abrasive, and there was a price associated with absolutely every item in the room. You could take anything home, but they were clear about the cost! The granola said "our welcome to you", but apparently, if you took it home in the little glass jar, you'd be charged?! The towels were scratchy and there was no place for luggage except on the floor. I set up the ironing board in the closet so I had a place to put my suitcase. When we arrived, there was nice music playing which I enjoyed and we did not watch TV (it was our anniversary)...but if we had wanted to watch TV in our bedroom, it would have been tough, as the TV sat on a very low unit (darn, too bad that wasn't a dresser with some drawers where we could store our clothes!) rather than being hung on the wall so you could see it. They did offer parking and had our name at our parking spot (nice touch), but you had to pay EXTRA even though we were paying more than $300/night! Overall, we "liked" the hotel, but we would check out a new place next time. Staff alone weren't enough good feelings for the price they charged! It felt that the owners are new in the hotel business and are relying on location to be the only reason to pay big prices! But we did love the staff!!! Thank you! read more

Wonderful staff and couldn't find a better location, watched the ferry come and go with the backdrop of a picturesque sunrise. Great location and stellar staff. Brought a group here to celebrate my mom's birthday. We took four rooms which gave us exclusive use of a common room overlooking the ferry terminal. The staff was excellent they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect they brought us extra dishes for our birthday cupcakes and gave my mom a music box that played happy birthday. Clean modern rooms and personal touches like the fresh fruit waiting for you on arrival made this one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I would highly recommend it for parties or a special island getaway. read more

Wonderful find....Stayed here for MaryAnn's birthday and this was the friendliest, neatest and smartly outfitted hotel we've been in yet. Loved the sexy furnishings, and the bath was gorgeous. Very clean, attention to detail and a great location for walking the town of Friday Harbor. We stayed in Sweet 2 which has a great view of the harbor with the ferry activity and people watching. We walked from the ferry to the hotel, not even 3 minutes away. The staff are very accommodating and super friendly. We plan on staying longer next time. read more

What a lovely hotel!!! All of the staff were so helpful, nice, and accommodating! We stayed in one of the penthouses, where the kitchen was better equipped than almost any house rental where we have stayed (and that is how we travel, staying at VRBO's). The beds were very comfortable although I would not recommend sleeping on the couch beds, despite the fact that the lovely staff provides a great bag with very clean and soft linens (way too stiff). The stairs are a bit tough for those of us with health issues, but the staff was so helpful with our luggage and needing extra help. The only thing lacking is more penthouses available (and maybe a small washer and dryer as part of the unit) as we would be booking all of our stays there when we visit San Juan, which is frequent. Obviously everyone likes the hotel as much as we do, and so it can be hard to get a room. And another pleasant note - their artwork is awesome! There is even a nice little patio sitting area where you can dine outside weather-permitting. Thank you! read more
