I just read a lot of the negative reviews here. I think people are forgetting that this is a THRIFT STORE. ISLAND THRIFT IS A GREAT THRIFT STORE! They have amazing sales. You have to know their sales schedule and policies. They give seniors discount Monday through Wednesday or Thursday . You just have to ask. On Wednesdays nearly the whole store is half price--Sundays also. They have sale days on clothing where all clothing is half off, it might be even be 75% off. Again find out their sales policies. They also have fitting rooms--nice sized ,not fancy. You don't want to go barefoot in them, but they have them. I've been in thrift stores with no fitting rooms and you just have to hope the clothing you buy would fit. At Northern thrift you can try on clothes and they have MIRRORS -- again nothing fancy or elegant but it's functional. I have found amazing things here. Yes some things are overpriced. Somethings are ridiculously UNDERPRICED . If you're a Thrifter, you know the value of this place. I once found a John Hardy Sterling Silver picture frame. I paid $1.50 for it. It originally sold for $600. It resales online for $300. It was heavily tarnished and just needed to be polished. This is the kind of place you can find treasures if you know what you're looking for. Another time I saw an unusual vase. while I was there, I researched it and found the vase online on eBay. It sells on eBay for $1000. I paid 20 for it. Then I found other pieces that matched this amazing ceramic vase. It must have been bought as a collection. Originally made in Paris in the 1920s. I have it packed away right now. I haven't decided what to do with it. But what I bought was worth a couple thousand dollars. And I paid $100 for all the pieces. I like to imagine it was something somebody collected on their honeymoon. The grandchildren didn't recognize the value of it and just brought it all to the thrift store. Again, you have to have an eye for what's valuable. If you do, you can find amazing things. But if you're lazy and just want come in and see that everything is low, low priced --you might be disappointed. You have to look, you have to search, but you can find truly amazing and valuable items-- including in the clothing section. They have plenty of cashiers to accommodate the sometimes long lines on sales days. The bathrooms are kept clean. I go there often and see many of the same people who go there every day looking for finds. I'm not a reseller, but I know these people are and they are there all the time. Obviously, they see the value of this place. Recently, I've needed some pots for a new convection stove top. I got amazing high-quality pots there for five dollars. I've been to several other thrift stores with no luck but at Island Thrift I usually find what I need as well as amazing furniture and decorative pieces. Go, and go often. Based on what I've seen, it feels like management doesn't really care about either the customers or the employees. In my opinion, you're better off shopping somewhere else. I've personally witnessed workers being harassed while doing their jobs, and judging by some of the reviews, it seems other people have had similar experiences. This store USES JAMMERS TO BLOCK YOUR CELLULAR PHONE SERVICE. Which is ILLEGAL. Forget getting or sending texts or phone calls or looking up things up on your phone. I'm an avid thrifter and probably been to every thrift store on LI. This thrift store by far the most expensive thrift store I've ever shopped in. Mens jeans average $20.99-24.99, I kid you not. They think Gap is a premium brand. I saw a used jacket listed here for $168.99. Place is dirty and a lot of their clothes have holes and are stained. Crazy. I came to Island Thrift was all intentions to give them the benefit of the doubt, after reading all the negative reviews. As I walk out of this cluster-f*ck of a store, I regret walking in. While in the store, I heard the announcement that all yellow and red tag items were 1/2 off. I thought, 'great, let's hope I find something with either one of those color tags'. Can I tell you that I browsed the store for over 40 mins and never came across anything with a yellow OR red tag?!? Seriously?!? Was the review about how they take away items with the specific color on sale the night before true? From what I saw ... GUESS SO! But wait, my son came up to me with a couple of things that he wanted and what do I see? Before my eyes I see 2 red tags ... nice!! Just to be on the safe side I ask an associate on the floor and she tells me the tag is red. So we go up to the register to buy his items. As the young man is ringing up the items, I told that my items have red tags and it was 1/2 off. He said they were 'dark orange'. Was he serious?!? I asked to speak to a manager to verify the color and he asked the lady next to him and when I asked her what color the tags were, she said 'orange'. I asked her if I could see what a red tag looked like, she said she didn't have any to show me and pointed to the sign hanging from the ceiling with the color tags. Thanks but no thanks ... The place used to be "hit and miss" and now it's "Miss and Miss" . Lots of resellers shop here-- but there is NOTHING to buy ! Then there are the BOOK SCANNING IDIOTS that make a dollar or 2 on Amazon selling crappy books. The only recent GREAT SCORE by me was 5 anime dolls by some weird company in ITALY that I never saw before. All mint in box with OLD store tags . Paid $2.99 each. Sold the set for $400.00 in a few months. LOL. F-U Island Thrift! Their prices are normally pretty high and when it's HALF OFF day - ALL the better stuff is PULLED FROM THE SHELVES ! I go once or even twice a week and usually find something to buy. There are sales nearly every day of the week. Thursday is Senior Day with all ticket colors except white (jewerly) at 30% off. Sunday two color tickets are 75% off, other days like Wednesdays I think there are four color tickets at 50% off. I've been shopping there for years and only had one bad experience with a new manager who had been let go shortly after that. I can't understand why so many negative views. How can you have an issue with prices when there are so many sales! I have found fantastic deals and sales force is always friendly and pleasant. So many grumpy people out there with complaints. This spot is definitely hit or miss in my opinion. Sometimes I find designer items in excellent condition, that is so overpriced I might as well buy them new. Other times items are overpriced and in such bad condition they should go straight to the garbage can. The tag/pricing system is ok. I honestly feel they take advantage of the Indigenous community nearby and overprice many items in hopes of getting more bang for their buck. Okay, so there's a lot of negative reviews about how this place is a dump and the prices are a rip off, and of course they're all completely accurate. However, at the end of the day this is still an enormous thrift store packed to the gills with tons and tons of good shit and an easy five-star rating. Definitely the first place I go if in the area. Is it everyone's cup of tea? No. Will you find ratty old crap that's priced almost as much as if it were brand new? Quite possibly. However, I can say for sure that you will find tons of ugly shirts not even remotely organized by size, plenty of mustard-toned corduroy pants and more blazers and suit jackets than you can probably even stand to search through. So far so good. There are also plenty of general items strewn throughout the store, which makes shopping here kind of disorienting, but also kinda fun. As a previous reviewer stated there is a good deal of china and glassware, and while most of it may be lower-end and/or damaged, you may find a nice piece of carnival glass or depression glass from time to time. What's more, a lot of these items are displayed on top of the clothing racks which means you'll want to take your time going through all the aisles. Also there is a huge selection of figurines a la Precious Moments, Hummel's and Boyd's Bears to be found here. Whether you're a nice, little old lady in the market for such things (or just a weird bastard like me), it might just be worth checking out for that reason alone. I recently stopped in a few weeks ago and nabbed myself some quality items including a coffee table book about Vienna, a souvenir crested spoon from San Francisco, a bag of silver-plated flatware and a purple women's (size 3XL) sweater which upon putting on, turned out to be super short, like a giant knit purple football jersey. Weird. Anyway, did I pay too much money for all this worthless crap? Yes, I did. Would I come back here and buy more worthless crap, including oversized women's clothing, that I should probably try on first (but won't)? Yes, again. read more

This thrift store is outrageously overpriced every time I make the mistake of shopping there I leave so disgusted at the overzealousness of people doing the pricing. $10.99 for a tea kettle that was chipped? I could easily spend a few dollars more at HomeGoods and purchase one that has not been used. There were TOO many sweaters priced at 18.99- They were all very clearly used regardless of the brand or even if an item has value in reselling or not - that's not the business you're in. So Theres no justification to put people in a position to purchase or wear somebody else's used items at high prices other than greed. Great store, actually good customer service. I had wanted some kind of Christmas sweater and the guy (Robert, I think?) showed me right to the section. The sweater I wanted didn't have a price. It was a Sunday, and he said to come back Tuesday when it would be repriced. I went in Tuesday and they repriced it for me right away. There's so much bad customer service sometimes, you forget how nice and helpful some people can be. That guy Robert was great and then on Tuesday everything worked out. The prices are way to high for what they have. Worn, used clothes at prices similar or even more than if purchased on sale. Miscellaneous odds and end that are also overpriced. Went today and got a sweatshirt, there was some young girl guarding(literally standing in front of the exit) the door checking receipts. Dangerous to be standing in front of the only way out in an obvious attempt to stop shop lifting. Manager should be ashamed to have these young kids there. No one's safety is worth a $15 pair of pants. read more

I thought I had written a review for this island thrift. Turned I did but never posted it, it was saved in drafts. I was going to give a 5 star review, whenever I had started writing that review... but after my last 2nd to last visit, I'm dissatisfied with the pricing practices of this place. I've been coming here since 2014-15. During the years, like any thrift store I've shopped at, there's been some great trips of finding lots to buy & some trips that I left with nothing. I've find items that have been a steal & other times I've found items where I've wondered if whoever priced it was intoxicated (please note for your own knowledge that anything that is GREENBRIER is from the dollar tree so any thrift store charging more than .99 for it is literally robbing you). $10 for a used shirt. $9 for a used dvd. Like come on. I know you have rent & employees, but all of these thrift stores get all of this crap donated to them for free! After work this past Friday (6/4/21), I came to Suffolk county for harmons & to go to 2 stores in WW mall. Since I was already in the area, I decided to come to island thrift. Literally the first thing I saw when I walked in was a pink Florida hoodie. No price on it. I was only semi interested in it. As I shopped around, I found a clutch purse I was very interested in purchasing. This item had a yellow price sticker on it with no actual price written on it. I spoke with the so called manager (a young Spanish girl). This was around 6:30 pm & she told me the pricers left at 3:30 & that I would need to "come back tomorrow". I don't live close by. I mapped it - I live 12 miles/28 minutes EACH WAY away. I explained to her that I don't live close by. She didn't care. In fact she told me it wouldn't be fair as she told other customers the same that (exactly how much unpriced merchandise makes it to the sales floor?) telling me how "they understood", implying that I didn't understand what she was saying. I'm not stupid, but what is stupid is literally refusing to sell something to a customer. I pointed out it doesn't make sense that a price sticker was put on the item with no price. She said the pricers made a mistake. Yes THEIR MISTAKE but it was MY time, MY gas & mileage on MY car to have to put the item on hold to go back on Saturday (after I made 2 phone calls to get the price & I called again before actually going to make sure they still had it). Absolutely ridiculous & asinine that I had to make such effort to seemingly beg this place to spend MY money. Yes I ended up getting the clutch purse. I couldn't find the hoodie (oh well). Was the aggravation & my time/gas worth it tho? I will continue to shop here but I would rather throw my stuff away than donate to this business ever again. read more

Just want to preface this review by reminding folks that Thrift Stores by it's nature, contain OLD, USED, UNWASHED (so potentially smelly), (sometimes) DAMAGED/TORN/RIPPED/SCUFFED items. If you are expecting clean, perfect or near perfect condition items then you either need to: A) have the stamina to dig through the racks to find those items (and they do exist) or B) you need to bring your buttocks to a store that sells brand new items. Now to questions that folks may have about this specific Island Thrift (there are several across Long Island): 1. Is it clean? For a thrift store it's actually not bad. You are not going to find shiny marble tiled floors or pristine painted walls or the latest hardware (racks, hooks, displays, etc.) that stores that sell brand new items will have. If you need that or will be "disgusted" then go to Target. 2. Are the prices expensive? Prices are all relative. I'm sure they have a pricing system and some items will be priced higher than it should, but other items will be priced lower than it probably should. As far as being able to consistently find items cheaper new in other thrift stores? Id like to know where. Yes, you can find similar items that are overpriced here, brand new in a Marshalls (who as a reminder sells DISCOUNTED new clothing, sometimes EXTREMELY discounted) but it's not like some people are making it out to be. For example, I've been able to consistently find mint condition Under Armour dri-fit material hoodies for my son for anywhere from $4 to $8 (without needing 50% off, even better with 50% off). Brand new in Under Armour is $40. If you are expecting $2 jeans and $1 tops (in great condition), no, this is not the place. IF you find that place, please let the rest of us know (unless you're talking apples and oranges and referring to the jobbers where you can buy clothes by the LB). 3. Do they remove items that have color codes for the next day from the floor? I have no idea. Could be. Could not. Would it surprise me? Not really. A LOT of businesses do that, not just a thrift store. Is it ethical? NO..IF they do it. 4. Have I been able to find stuff that I really liked for 50%? ABSOLUTELY. Sometimes I can spot them within a few minutes after I walk in. Other times it takes quite a lot of time to fish through this rather big store to find them. Every once in a while I don't find anything. That is the nature of Thrift Stores. And I do shop for an online business where I sell vintage clothing. Best find in Island Thrift was a NWT pair of women's Italian designer dress pants (I googled the brand) from the 80's (ticket price back then was $168). Tag price was about $18. Got it with the right color code for 50% off for about $9. Bottom line? You have to dig. No item is going to jump off the rack and say "take me, I'm perfect!". If you don't like spending a lot of time to maybe find nothing and you find the whole notion of mostly unwashed used clothing revolting, then don't go there. No reason to go in and then get disgusted and write a bad review just because of that. And the prices are still great for the low income people that live in the area compared to many of the other places (Savers, Plato's Closet, etc.) they have as alternatives. Prices are higher there in general...and the selection is a lot less. To summarize? Is Island Thrift Perfect? NO. But it's more than fine for what it was meant for especially if you are ok with what it takes to shop thrift. read more

Great selection of stuff that is constantly refreshed dail. Multiple sale days each week where items are placed 50%. Can get some great deals at times but they also some price things way outsider reality. Place seems to always be busy and store has good amount of staff. read more

My husband and I go here maybe every six weeks. Our best finds have been DVD'S and CD'S in their original packaging. Also nature guides at a very fair (in our humble opinions) price. Recently found a nice serving platter to replace ours that was dropped. It's a little crowded but we've had no complaints. read more

I've shopped here for the last year, my friend had put me on to this store and one day I go with my friend and this worker named "Daniel" felt "disrespected" by my so call "brother" (just because you see two Spanish guys apparently there brothers yes) anyway my friend has a bad habit of lifting his mask to breath and my friend and him got into an argument about it. I minded my business and continued to shop. So "Daniel" took it upon himself to take it out on me and refuse service to me after 20 minutes of shopping and waiting in line for no reason.Mind you he let my friend shop after their argument. I kept my mask on and followed all rules and minded my business so why should another persons actions affect me. read more

I am a thrifter, reseller and restorer. I thrift at least twice a week. Today we tried Island Thrift in Huntington Station. And it gets a great big NO. First of all, all of the housewares are on top of the racks of clothes. So if you are short like me, you couldn't see much. Forget looking at dishes - I couldn't see a single pattern. It was just stacks of dishes over my head. Also - too much clothes. It made the store crowded and musty. Save stuff in the back and restock regularly. I bought a few things including a very lovely turn of the century pin cushion doll for a buck, and my son picked up a nice shirt - more expensive than it would have been at Unique but he liked it. I truly don't understand the negative reviews here. Everyone at this place is always very kind. The prices are definitely reasonable, good to great quality merchandise and they always have multiple days where you can get half price on many colors. Some days there's as many as 5 or 6 colors you can get half price on. People just look for the negative in things. Unbelievable. Not quite sure why others in these reviews are talking about this place so negatively. Every single time I have come here, I find such cute stuff and for so cheap. Just pay attention to which day has which type of sale. I have bought multiple cute bags, shoes, and sunglasses here and everything is in good condition. My fav thrift spot! read more

BEWARE REGULAR CUSTOMERS!!! Major screw up of a new manager at Huntington store!!!! She is ringing up all solid tickets posted at full price even though posted colors are attached to huge 50% off signs and she won't back down! Says she is correct. When a lovely cashier concurred that cashiers were ringing up solid 50% tickets at half price, "manager" says they are all wrong for doing that (since the invention of time??) and says she will be having a meeting with cashiers to correct this, but refused to adjust the items she charged full price for. She insists that the solid colors posted as half price are only ...get this..."supposed to be" for clothing! Needless to say, there is no sign anywhere that states this new approach, which she says isn't new. Get rid of her! She is sooooo bad for business. read more

My interest are records and I found their prices to be totally off the mark.Scratched worthless albums were selling for $6.99. As I walked in the store, there was a piano and I had to do a double take---the price was $1500. My guess is that since this is a predominately Spanish neighborhood, the prices are steep. I've visited almost every thrift-store on Long Island, so I have a basis for comparison. This place is okay. Not great but okay. Bigger in size than most stores but very unorganized. The racks are over-stuffed which makes shopping harder than it needs to be. Prices are okay, not great. Some items are over-priced but they have day-long discounts on certain items (marked by color-tag) which are good (like 50% off). Serendipity is the hallmark of thrifting so include this store in your travels but don't have high hopes. You might or might not find a treasure. read more

As a veteran thrifter, this is the worst thrift store I have been to on Long Island. Customer Service: Exceptionally rude, condescending & disrespectful female manager. She will do her best to make it so that you don't want to shop here. Claims she doesn't care how much you spend. Rolls her eyes & laughs in your face, when asked for assistance. As a repeat customer, I am appalled at how this manager treats customers. Employees don't seem to correlate customer service with sales & how the profits from those sales are the reason that they have jobs Pricing: This store is located in a low income neighborhood where a large majority do not drive. This company takes advantage of this by pricing all items with a notable brand very high.You will find clothing items priced at 15.99, 24.99, 28.99 +much more (for Used, unwashed items) This store illegally sells many knock off & replica/ fake handbags & accessories such as Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Coach & more! For 28.99-$100 + Cleanliness/ Condition They also sell stained clothing, clothing with holes in it, used bathing suit bottoms, used Women's underwear & lingerie with visible bodily fluids on them, used children's underwear, & open bottles of lotions & creams. Greasy, Used cookware & non working electronics. Anything with a logo on it will cost you more than a new one on amazon or eBay. Do some research & you will find that there are many other thrift stores on Long Island that have more reasonable prices, with much kinder associates & management. Ethics: The most disgusting part of this organization is that they get donations by saying that proceeds go to the veterans. They pose as charitable organization in order to get free donations & pay Zero taxes.
