Hot tub ran, just Had a small leak in a pipe off of hot tub. They said heater is where the leak was coming from. Emptied tub, replaced heater and the tub won't turn on afterwards. Come out and say it's now the motherboard. Replaced that, it glitched, came on and back off. Now saying it's the control panel but it's one that may not be able to find to replace, since tub is an older model. And may need a new hot tub. Will go elsewhere if that's the case. Also ordered a new liner over a month ago for pool. Said it would be installed before the 4th of July. Got a call last week stating it's now being done July 6st. Well it's the 6st and still not being done e. They charge a $299 show up fee when they come out, even if they can't fix the problem. Better off going elsewhere and save you the headache and money!! read more

This review is more for the installers which I know are subbed out from islander. They may wanna re think who they sub too. It's a huge reflection on themselves. My mom just had an above ground pool installed and when I went over to check it out I could not believe what I saw. They pool itself looked ok. But it looked like a bomb went off. They completely destroyed the yard, left every bit of garage there, I understand craftsmanship isn't what it used to be but this crew took that to another level of poor. HUGE FAIL!! Please take your business elsewhere! It seems as though being rude is a prerequisite for working at Islander in Colonie. Kenny the " Leisure Consultant " was rude but, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Then while trying to resolve a current ongoing issue I had unpleasant experience of dealing with the equally rude store manager Andrew. All while trying to get a $300 refund check to cover the cost of a diver to repair the pool liner that has leaked since day one 7/16/21. The diver told me that it was a perfectly round hole that in her opinion was not done by us. Please keep in mind that the diver gets their work from Islander and other companies so it's unlikely that they will back up what they told me. So, I have an inground pool with a salt system. I have closed the pool for 30 some odd years without any problems but this year we had someone else close the pool. Unfortunately they left a plug in the salt feed line which got sucked in and blocked all the water going to the pool. I took everything apart and finally came to the conclusion that there must be some blockage in the salt line. I called and went over to quite a number of pool stores all of whom told me that it was just a dirty filter even though I had completely removed the filter. I brought it over to Islander and they attacked the problem like it was a real mystery. Eventually they opened up the salt line and the pressure limiter and found a 1 1/4 inch black plug. They then managed to put everything back together. These guys definitely know what they are doing. They listen to your problem they come up with different theories as to what the problem might be and when they come to a conclusion they get your permission to start cutting. All in all I cannot recommend them highly enough. it just doesn't pay to go anywhere else. Ray Seligman read more

Inquired about written info on the spas we were considering. We were refused & asked if we would be buying. It was like being in a used car lot. We are already skilled pool & hot tub owners. Very rude service. I had a above ground pool that is only 6 years old. The walls are rotten through in various areas. I thought there was some kind of warranty, but was greeted with, " so what do you want us to do about it?" "Do you want to buy another pool?" I told the salesman that he had a poor attitude and was only interested in getting another sale. With that kind of attitude I will never buy from them again. I bought a spa, this 24 foot above ground pool, and also expensive patio furniture. No respect for the customer that was shocked the pool lasted only 6 years. By the way, the pool was 3500 $ so it wasn't a cheap piece of crap, but little did I know. I talked to the sales manager after this rude guy and he didn't even give me any respect as well. He said the liner is leaking and caused this to happen. I said " first the liner isn't leaking or I would need to keep filling it back up and I'm not" "but even so, the liner should last longer than 5 to 6 years, and why are there muliple locations? I could see if I accidently cut it with the ladder, but there are over four various locations around the pool that this is happening. My feeling is that the pool was a piece of crap and they are still selling it. I would recommend not buying from them, anything at all. What ever happened to the customer is always right? I can't even give this company one star, I could give it a negative 5 stars however. Worst place I ever bought anything. Stay away..... read more

I brought my spa pump there to purchase a new one. They could not do anything for me. They could not look it up by the pump specs. I have to drive to Albany he said. I asked if he could look it up to give me a price. He said no. What kind of Spa place is this? I spent 10 min. on line and found the pump. I will not be buying my chemicals or anything else there. Well let me say that Islander Pools is the best. I recently took down my old pool that was purchased from them years ago, so I went in and bought a new pool as I know how great they are. Well then I did something stupid, I let someone talk me into going with another pool contractor and boy did that backfire. This new contractor had his "digger" show up and make a mess and doing lots of damage. Then he demanded that I pay him $300.00as per the contractor. I called the contractor and now he will not install my pool and will not refund my money or fix the damage. So long story short never question Islander or their staff. Andrew is super and the most knowledgeable pool sales person. His installation crews are always polite, courteous, and excellent at what they do. So now for me letting a "scammer" get into my head, I have no pool, and out $300.00, and looking at $2500.00 in damages. So please keep islander pools as your only pool place. So to Andrew and all the staff, including the installers, I am truly sorry for doubting your knowledge and superior products. I will miss my pool. read more

We installed the pool --bought it from Islander. They're technically savvy and knowledgeable compared to another company. The worst part of install is that you have to put all the little pieces (electrician, etc) together. The best part is that you've got them backing you up--we had many questions and we'd just call the salesman. He was so helpful. We got some freebies at the beginning and the end. And, always the people in the water testing area are great about our water. So good. We only wish they weren't on the _wretched_ Central Ave. Good thing we go there only now and then. read more

One of the treads on my aqua bot pool cleaner was not working. It would just turn in a tight circle. I brought it in to Islander pools as the recommended place to take for service. The people were friendly, they called me quickly with the diagnosis, told me approximately how much it would cost, charge me for the motor upfront, and then gave me an estimated time frame for fixing which they met. So far so good. I live in Saratoga so it's not a short hike to Albany. They called me when it was ready I went and picked it up (40 min drive) and brought it home, put it in the pool and it did exactly the same thing....turned in a tight circle. I called them to tell them the situation and I was put on hold, people would tell me some one was coming to help me and I was put on hold again and finally somebody answered and said no one was available and could they call me later. Are you kidding me? I'm withholding judgement for now but I will update when someone calls. read more

He also ran up and into the inner workings of our Pentair MasterTemp 400 heater, purchased two years ago from Islander Pools, in Colonie, New York. The heater worked flawlessly for almost two years before the electronics and wiring failed completely. An Islander Pools technician inspected our MasterTemp heater and quickly diagnosed our problem. A mouse found a way into our heater, made a nest to keep warm, and chewed through the heater's wiring. The day on which the technician inspected our heater was about a week after our warranty on this item expired, with the warranty excluding damage unrelated to the manufacture of this equipment, such as that caused by mice. As loyal customers of Islander Pools for many years, we contacted Herb, who manages their service operations, for help. He found a way to obtain spare parts from another heater, which enabled an Islander technician to make the necessary repairs in record time. This included sealing potential entry points for mice with a mesh. We thought we would have to purchase a new heater, but Herb and his technician worked their magic to restore our current heater to a like-new condition. In our hour of need, we lacked Aladdin's lamp and a genie who would grant our wish for a repaired heater, but we did have the next best thing: Herb at Islander! The nursery rhyme continues, "The clock struck one. The mouse went down." Well, the clock struck "one" for this little mouse and it will have to find a new place to find warmth in the winter. A Mother Goose rhyme might offer a solution. One poem begins, "There was an old woman who lived in a shoe . . .". Perhaps she has extra room for a mouse. (DH) read more

I have used Islander for all my pool needs for over 15 years. New pool pump, new liner, new filter, all my chemicals and pool needs. When they installed the salt system, they couldn't get it right. It never produced chlorine. I had to make multiple visits weekly for testing, always having to buy chemicals and run the pump 24 hours a day. Turns out, they had the salt level too low because they had the incorrect salt generator listed on my account. So they gave me more salt (because you pay for salt when you buy the system) and charged me for more chemicals. I've been unnecessarily buying chemicals and running my pump for months due to their mistake. At the register, I said "I've been buying unnecessary chemicals due to your error, and you're going to charge me again for your mistake?" She said "I'm sorry". My 15 + years as a loyal customer was just sold to the competition for $14.72. read more

When going into Islander be ready for the up sell or "Bait and Switch". They advertise low prices to get you in the door and then they sell you a more expensive pool package. Just know that everything in this pool package is cheap except for the pool because you have already up-graded that with the sales person. You can get a better cover, vacuum, etc, but it is going to cost you $. The guy that does the installs takes a page right out of their book. He will charge you extra for something, for me it was the sand, an extra $75. And because he does 3-4 pools a day in prime season he or his workers will cut corners. With my pool they snapped these plastic decorative pieces on the bottom of the post but never screwed them as intended and most of them broke off over the winter. That being said I would buy from them again, it would have been nice knowing this stuff prior, that is why I am doing this review. I would not have used the installer again, he is a manipulator and I truly believe he probably thinks he's smarter than everyone and that no one will know he is getting one over on them. I had a liner installed in an in-ground pool. First, I want to say that the quality of craftsmanship of the install was great. My only complaint there is that in the corner of the steps I can feel a ridge under the new liner as if there is something under it. Professionally on the other hand, I have a few complaints: 1 - The service department is really difficult to get in touch with unless you go in in person. You can't call the service department directly you must get transferred back there from the sales department. When they transfer you your phone will go completely silent for an average of 4-5 minutes before someone in sales picks back up and offers to send you to voicemail. Don't do it - returning calls doesn't seem to be a priority for them once they have your deposit. If you have them continue to transfer you they will eventually answer in service. 2 - They missed the original time frame established for the install by two weeks. They like to blame this on the rainy season, but for the last two weeks of that the weather was great and they kept telling me I was next on the list. If I was next on the list and it only takes a couple of days for an install, then how did it take two weeks for them to start my project? I don't appreciate being lied to. 3 - I came home the first day of the project to find trash in my driveway and around my backyard. I picked up the trash in my driveway to prevent it from blowing into my neighborhood, but I left the trash in the backyard assuming they would at least clean it up at the end of the project. While they did clean up much of the trash in the backyard by the end, I still had to clean up about 15 bits of old tape that they apparently ripped up from under the old liner and some small chunks of concrete debris. 4 - About two days after the install my wife noticed a pile of what looks like fine (granular) concrete rubble dumped next to one of our trees in the yard. I assume it was from after they resurfaced the floor of the pool and ground the ridges smooth. Why would they leave that there? When I called to ask about it they talked to me like I was a fool for assuming they would have removed it. Apparently I should have know I would have to deal with digging this debris out from between the roots of a tree in my backyard, loading it onto a tarp in my trunk, hauling it to the dump myself. Why would I have assumed that would be covered somewhere in the $4691.00 price tag? They are right - I do feel foolish, but only for choosing them as my pool service company. read more

Not happy at all!!! I had a deposit on a pool at A-Frame but they didn't have good reviews so I spent more to get a pool from Islander what a mistake!!! First of all they act like their pool crew exclusively installs pools just for then but they don't - the installer said they install for all companies even Nameco! Secondly they state on their website they won't be outpriced which is completely not true they wouldn't even match A-Frames price we purchased the Influence which is almost identical to the pool at A-Frame but hundreds less!!! Lastly we never purchased a pool before so when they gave us a price we thought that was the price hahaha yeah right!!! The installers will charge you a dig fee which we had a small pothole on the border of our pool area which the area could have easily been moved but that pothole ended up costing over $100!! And they also don't mention it but they also leave u with a mountain of dirt and rip up your lawn :( I just wanted to write this because the salesman really sold me with their great reviews and reliability but it's a complete joke... who knew it would be more stressful buying a pool then a car read more

Terrible experience. I will never walk through the doors again. Sold empty promise of "always here to help, just give me a call" Joe is a great salesman, but not much of a professional businessman. We were suckered into a $4000 pool that we could've gotten at half of that price. But were convince that Joe was local and been in the business for 30 years. (Just a phone call away and his pools were "better than all competitors pools",) That pool, 6 months later still sits in our yard in a pile of bent metal. The installers that islander hires out, at a $600 profit, state that the pool is junk. They refuse to return my calls, too incompetent to answer questions when I come in for answers and chuckled when I asked if I could return it. read more

I have dealt with thee people for a number of years and sometimes they are very good and at other times not so hot. I estimate that they fail to attache my winter cover improperly 50 % of the time. They do not tighten the cover so that the drain is the lowest part of the pool. This year when I called them about the improper installation the female who answered the phone said they were very busy with closing and it would be a long time before they could come. SHE ALSO said that the water would go through the cover and it would take care of its self. It hasn't drained nor can it as the material blocks water flow. Except where the mesh drain is. and they have not come I hope they get here before the snow and my cover falls into the pool read more

Prepare yourself for all hidden costs. You need to account for everything when getting your pool installed. Islander will inform you of some but not all costs. So those on a budget buyer beware. Also after having pool for a month the liner had a hole. 150.00 dollars later a guy came to seal the pool. I am not sure how islander said this wasnt under warranty. The purchasing process with Andrew Apple was very pleasant..he was also able to assist me with additional information I needed regarding electrical installation and permits. I went to the parts counter for a capacitor for my pump motor on 7/6/16, and saw a used dusty capacitor on the counter. I told the kid at the counter that I needed one with the same part number as the one on the counter. He went in the back and came back and said "this is the only one I have. They're $13" I said are you kidding me? This is a dusty used capacitor. I'm not buying that. I can get a new capacitor for that price. He said that they harvest used capacitors from bad motors and resell them. For the price of new one I might add. What a joke. This kid should be fired. I also asked them about a warrantee on my pool rails that are rusting apart.
