Don't be fooled by this place. It looks nice. But it is in terrible shape. They refuse to maintain…read moreor fix anything until another few weeks or months beyond whenever they HAVE to. The pools are virtually unusable. If you take a tour and they try to give you the line that the therapy pool is around 95 & the regular pool is about 86, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM! The heaters have been broken for MONTHS now. That's right, I said months. The temp today was 76 in the therapy pool & 78 in the main. Even when they were working, the temps would range wildly. They were never the same temp twice. The therapy pool could be 83 one day and over 100 a few days later. They. Just. Don't. Care. They refused to add proper chlorine to the pools for months as well. It took repeated calls to the health dept to get them to FORCE them to get it up to level. "Oh, how bad could it be?" you ask. The proper level is supposed to be 7.2. The therapy pool was .2 to .5. For MONTHS. That is very dangerous & unhealthy. They were cloudy all the time and smelled. The saunas were down for a long time. I was told there was black mold in the ladies locker room one for a very long time, but even at that, they refused to fix it. Or CLOSE IT! Even with black mold. The showers were broken for over a year before they got fixed despite dozens of requests to fix them. It was not a complex plumbing issue, it was REPLACING A SHOWER HEAD!! Get the picture? They care about your money, not you. Then they will not spend any to keep things fixed. They will tell you anything to get you to sign up, but if you ever have a problem, you are all the way out of luck. So if you believe the "C" in "YMCA" stands for "Christian" - nope. WWJD? Care enough about people to keep things fixed.

I've been pretty busy these last few months, and haven't had as much time to come here as much, but…read moreI've got a bit more free time again and have made my way back. The main difference that I've noticed (and I guess the reason for this update) is that the staff doesn't seem as interactive. And I kind of mean this in a good way? They used to have workers stand in the entryway upstairs, at the top of the straits landing between the two sections of workout equipment. This always felt a little awkward to me, like they were just watching everyone exercise (which was their job, so they were) and it was probably weird (and super boring!) for them too! It was nice that they were more available for any questions/ issues that way though. Now I'm not sure where they are? So maybe something between those two ways would be good... I'll also say that a few months ago, the staff was always super welcoming when coming in and leaving the building. Recently, I haven't really seen as much of that. Honestly I'm not sure if I miss that, or if I'm cool with just being able to walk in and just kind of stay to myself and go on with my way lol. I guess again, maybe something in between would be good. I think maybe one reason for this is that everyone knows how to use their cards or their phones to check themselves in, so there's less of a need to have someone right there at the door all the time, to be fair. Not gonna change my star rating even though there are some changes, just because I feel like the differences are more neutral in my eyes. Not necessarily better, or worse, just differences! I just wonder if these were intentional changes or not...?

I work in the Fitness space and recently moved to Tulsa. I…read morelike checking out different gyms and studios and have a good base to compare from. Why four stars and not 5 ? Because Tulsa has a log of gym options and Genesis promotes itself as a Luxury gyms. This might of been true when it first opened but is no longer so. Is not that they lack amenities but the gym is starting to look a bit run down for a luxury gym and they try to do too many things and some of them are not well done. Lots of equipment that is starting to show wear and Luxury gyms usually replace the equipment if they can't fix it up to a high standard. More is not better a prime example of that is their Functional fitness room, it's disorganized, dirty lots of equipment there that just doesn't make sense or fit their market share Accessories, totes and stuff thrown all over the gym makes it look disorganize and is unnecessary. Now the good: Genesis is quiet space, members are polite and everyone stays to themselves. They offer a packed class schedule and Personal training have a decent selection of Free weights, Machines and Cardio equipment. Their market is for the Master bodybuilder, seniors, parents that need childcare that want to keep to themselves and just want to get their work in. Well appointed Locker rooms with showers are well kept. Shot out to the new guy at the front desk is polite, eager to learn and grow and is hard to find employees now in days. My hat of to the guy who cleans in the morning, he's always hard work moving fast and running all over the gym getting the job done. Everyone I interacted with was polite and nice.

The facility is poorly maintained, with dirty broken equipment, and unsanitary locker rooms. The staff overall is helpful, other than one front desk guy who lacks any customer service skills. There are never any towels available for the workout areas or the locker rooms. The steam room is rarely cleaned, has debris on the floor, and either doesn't work or scalds your skin. Additionally, this is the second year in a row where the AC doesn't work, making it extremely uncomfortable to workout. I would not recommend this gym to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean, and well-maintained workout environment. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

I will keep you…read moreupdated as I go, but so far, it has been a very fun, authentic and surprisingly empowering experience. - The gym itself has never been overcrowded. There is plenty of space and equipment to accommodate everyone comfortably. - I love that parking is quick and easy. (I was a tad worried about the 71st street traffic when I initially saw the address... but it's actually a bit removed from mall traffic... so the traffic had never been an issue for me.) - I love the 24/7 access pass. As a female, I feel very safe... even later in the evening if I'm the only one there. It's very secure. - Everyone's been very friendly, considerate... and everyone is REAL... I workout with REAL people (they don't look "plastic" or "photoshopped")... they are real people who take their goals seriously. Everyone you meet at Styrka is there to better themselves... and it's totally fine wherever YOU may be in that self improvement process. Even if you're just starting out, or it's been a while... and you're trying to get back into the swing of things... you WILL feel welcomed and supported... no matter your skill level. - It's very clean and tidy. The bathrooms are always clean and people are really good about tidying up after themselves. Love that! - Another cool thing about this place, if you have a question... people around are happy to help. (That might be the best part... that Styrka is a community...) It's not impersonal... you don't get lost in the crowd... And you actually get to put names with smiling faces. One final tip: If you are newer to the gym or if the correct form has always been a bit of a mystery to you... it's worth investing in some sessions with one of the trainers that work out of Styrka. Even just a little bit of coaching will boost your knowledge and confidence immensely. Don't suffer in silence. Having an expert guiding you puts you on the fast track to RESULTS! Hope this helps! :)
