Falafel sandwich is too dry, needs more actual falafel and sauce. This place could be great but they need to up their game.

Absolutely delicious - wonderful people and amazing food! You can't go wrong. Terrific falafel and the hummus alone is worth a trip!

This…read moretiny Middle Eastern eatery is a hidden gem located in Portland's busy Forest Ave neighborhood. My falafel wrap may be one of the best meals I've gotten in Portland, solely based on food-to-price ratio. The falafel was perfectly cooked, and the wrap was quite yummy. It came with these deep-fried "chips" (I'm sure they are something else) and a side of delicious hummus. I paid about $10 for the whole thing, including a soda. You just can't beat that. The menu was extensive and included a mix of sandwiches, salads, and plates. Would I go back to Mazzat? If I'm in the area, yes, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to make it there! In my opinion, this is more of a takeout spot. I did dine in, but the vibe is pretty much nonexistent -- a mix of about eight tables inside without much going on. All in all, I'm glad I tried it!

Service was very polite and patient, and the food was awesome. They've got two vertical spits going for shawarma. The kebabs are displayed in the fridge and then cooked, so flavorful and interesting. There are several tables to sit and dine in if that's your vibe. It was torture driving home with the delicious smells. Don't skip eating the pickled veggies, they're unique and delicious! The portions pack a punch for the price. Next time I'll dine in and enjoy everything hot and fresh without the wait. The desserts also looked really good, next time!

Don't, for heaven's sake, park on Forest Ave. With the lane-hopping speedsters it is too dangerous for you to exit from the driver's side. We loved every single bit and piece of chicken. My entire family including a 2 and 4 year old were gnawing away happily on their chicken drumsticks!! We weren't sure how the pieces would be, so we ordered a 35 piece bucket..LOL, it was actually the size of a full catering tray! LOL On the way home I kept kicking myself that I ordered way too much. All I can say after a few bites, I was so excited to have days of leftovers!! Heat the leftovers in an air fryer and it's as good as new. We can't wait to try it again...but it will be a while...maybe in a month? I will feel like fried chicken again! LOL The mac and cheese was ok - it was batch mac which means the noodles are not al dente, over cooked for my taste. The french fries were nice shoe string fries with sprinkling of seasoning. Not sure what, but it was tasty. We also got a nice salad they happily customized to not have onion. We were greeted immediately upon entry and it was a bit snowy so he allowed me and my sister out the side door where we parked, So nice and kind!! The place inside was simple cafeteria style set up. I will definitely buy chicken again for takeout.

The lemon sole (fish) and octopus carpaccio (not pictured) were filled with flavor! The pork belly was very underwhelming and I would not order again. The waiter said 2-4 plates per person. I recommend starting on the lower end and adding additional dishes based on how you're feeling. The amount of food was very different from dish to dish. For example the tuna dip had way too much bread and the pork belly was very small in size. Overall I was half impressed. I wish the staff would take a moment to announce the plate as it's placed next to you or point it out on the menu for those hard of hearing and wanting to know what they are about to enjoy. However the music, overall restaurant vibe and half the dishes exploding with flavor made my experience pleasant and I will return again knowing a bit more of what to expect and looking at photos of the menu/meal options beforehand.
