I ordered the seafood pho, expecting a hearty bowl of fresh seafood, but was left very disappointed. For $14, the portion was extremely underwhelming -- I received only two small shrimp, a couple of mussels and clams, and two pieces of squid. It felt more like an appetizer than a main dish. On top of that, the bean sprouts had an odd chemical smell? Which made the pho that much less enjoyable. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. Definitely not worth the money. read more

This was not my favorite Pho place. We stopped in for dinner at the end of February and the food was ok, but it was super dirty inside. From the tables to the floor I was uncomfortable the entire time I ate. Some people probably could have brushed it off but that is a HUGE factor in whether or not I will return to an establishment. The pho was bomb, flavorful with a good amount of meat. My wife doesn't like cilantro in her soup and when we usually request no cilantro places forget 90% of the time. The workers were not Vietnamese.. the food here is not your typical Vietnamese food. I was just disappointed about the flavor of the food. It was strong in soy sauce more than any other flavor. I really don't know if it's okay or even if it's a bad thing to write reviews for the restaurants I have worked at because people might think it is biased and I would rather give them a great review to boost up their business but I stay true to what I feel about each restaurant I go to. It would be the same as writing a really awesome review for ... a person's favorite restaurant right? Well I can tell you right off the bat that I don't play favorites with the places I work at. I could have written a review the very first day I tried this place but I wanted to wait a little to see how everything works around here and try different dishes before writing a complete review. I remember the very first dish I tried here at It's Pho U, was their tofu yakisoba. I am fond of yakisoba.. but I usually never end up ordering that dish wherever I go. So, instead of trying their pho first (as a side note: I did not like pho very much as a kid) and so I chose to stay with their yakisoba. It's been a couple months since I have tried their yakisoba but I still remember enough to write what I tasted:) It was good. I never had the moment at a restaurant where I thought, "this is the best yakisoba ever" although I have thought that thought many times with other kinds of foods. The tofu is fried and the yakisoba comes with cabbage, MUSHROOMS, carrots, purple cabbage, and I believe other smaller vegetables! Oh, onions... ew. I can give the yakisoba 4 1/2 stars. I decided, since I work at a pho place- I should eventually try their pho~ I didn't know until a month later... that It's Pho U DOES NOT USE MSG in their pho soup. Since I am not very fond of pho... I can't tell whether this pho or that pho contains MSG. I'd say- it tastes pretty good:) when I came back from California... I went to my old usual places for pho... and for some reason... seems like the taste had changed over the past couple years. I really like their steak pho :) brisket isn't bad actually! Definitely less fat then other pho places that use brisket. I have never been a huge fan.. of vietnamese meatballs... tastes so strange :/ Until I started working here (i get to choose my own meats inside when I eat at work, like buffet style) I stuck with the brisket and steak at first and then tried the chicken for the first time. Here, they use thin slices of white chicken breast (which is kind of "tough" rather than soft like the steak) in my opinion. Now each time I eat pho at work, I add tons of steak, some brisket, and ALWAYS 2 pieces of chicken:) Where else can I go to a place that I can put in whatever I want in my own Pho right?! The pho without being picky about what I get to put in my own, I will give it 5 stars. If you've seen my yelp.. reivews.. I had become a noodle salad bowl freak for the past few weeks~ although I haven't tried it at It's Pho U yet. Until recently. Their chicken is kind of... stiff? Not really soft like other places. The noodles also come kind of heated so it's much warmer than the room temperature/slightly chilled noodle salad bowls I have tried. The fish sauce... oooohh.... I never liked that smell anywhere I tried pho at!~ The fish sauce they make here... is quite black peppery... and I don't like black pepper so much. As for the Char-broiled chicken noodle salad bowl.. I give it 3 stars:/ (A lot of people enjoy the noodle salad bowl here though- so don't be afraid to try it) The two other items I tried here are the BBQ Pork Sandwich + BBQ Chicken Sandwich and the teriyaki chicken. MMMMM! the sandwiches are delicious! It comes with your choice of meat, cucumbers, carrots, jalapenos, and cilantro! The bread is sooo good:) I favor the chicken one over the pork because it had ....way too much fatty attached to the pork. Definitely, 5 stars! Teriyaki chicken... (since I worked at a teriyaki place) it isn't the best teriyaki chicken around but I will admit that the portions they give for the teriyaki dishes are quite a handful! Teriyaki.. I give 4 stars- I usually eat the teriyaki chicken only because it compliments the house salad dressing so well! Spring rolls here are a must! So delicious! It comes with lettuce, ham, shrimp, beansprout and avocado! That's all I have to say for now! read more

Great food. Great price. This is a nice go-to Pho restaurant. And it satisfies any craving for noodles you might have. Speaking of cravings, I always order the same thing here. Large pho with brisket, extra noodles (for the craving), fresh spring rolls, and extra peanut sauce because my wife will literally make me drive back up the hill and get more if I don't. The pho is really everything you'd expect. The vegetables are fresh, and the sauces are all included with your order. The spring rolls are Fantastic, but my wife and I both agree that they could use more in them, and specifically anything but the mass of rice noodle that the role is already packed with. The only other thing I would recommend is one of two options. Either get the management to include larger plastic carriers for their sauces (at the moment, the containers are about the diameter of a large thumb). Or, warn customers that because the containers are so small, they should probably not feel at all like they have some sort of hoarding problem by asking for three or four of every sauce they might want. I'm talking, here, about the plumb, Sriracha and the plethora of other random sauces with which we all love to play chemist when we're mixing our pho at the table. Other than that, the food is great and at a great price. The total for my order was 24 bucks before tip. I can't speak for ambiance in the restaurant, since I always order for pick up at this location-- especially now-- but the restaurant is clean and well-spaced every time I walk in, and there are always plenty of smiles and engaged conversations amongst those patrons who do opt to eat inside. read more

I have ordered here regularly for some time and would have given more stars until recently. The folks that work the front are wonderful. However, the last few times I've ordered to-go (I gave a couple more chances in case there was an off day or two) the portions have been extremely disappointing. What is shown in the picture is NOT a large. If this it what it is going to be from now on, I will stop ordering and would suggest you don't order to-go either. This is my favorite place to get pho. I live about 30 min away so it isn't convenient to go but it is worth the trip! Their broth is savory and their chicken isn't all fatty, like some other places. This place to me has the best broth in South Hill but that's about it. I am upset at how their prices are always fluctuating and getting higher every time I place an order. They don't like to update their menu and the prices because they like people coming in to pick up their order and when you pay $13 for 4 egg rolls (frozen ones from Costco) they tell you "oh, those prices are not up to date, those are from long long time ago," like seriously?!? You say that EVERY DAMN TIME I come in to pick up an order and the prices have yet changed again! Then I say, "you said that last time I was here" and they play stupid like they didn't know...so of course I make the suggestion of them updating the menu and prices so people aren't surprised every time they come in to pick up their order and he says "oh, we already tried and they don't update" like GTFOH it's a scam. Of course I could be a pain in the ass and just not pay for it, but that's not my character and it's a waste of my time to come all the way there to go home empty handed. I ordered pho #7 medium. It was mostly noodles. There were a total of 6 pieces of half sized beef flanks/steak, a few pieces of tendons and tripe. The broth was okay. My fiancé ordered bun with pork, shrimp, and egg roll. The pork and fish sauce were bland and didn't have much flavor. And what about the weird combination of raw broccoli and cauliflower! I Personally had eaten here before but I really didn't like this time. First off the food tasted like it was getting ruined. Secondly the sever was plain not okay by throwing plates at the table like I was asking them to give it to me for free. We came here on a Tues night and ordered the following: pho bo vien, pho ga and a chicken teriyaki. Food came out pretty quick and portion was good for sharing among our family of four. Service was great, they came by often to check on us and asked us how the food is and if we needed anything. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and craving Viet food. read more

You guys, it was my first time here and I couldn't find one thing wrong with this place! My mother-in-law has been going here for years and I can see why. It is family owned and everyone who worked that day were SO nice (great customer service) and loved on my toddler whom they were totally fine with roaming around the open restaurant, haha - considering we went at a slow time during the day, so I thought it was okay too! I ordered a regular #1 Pho Tai with extra white onions on the side. It was really good and LOTS of noodles, which I'm VERY happy about! Who isn't?! I'd say great portions. I ordered a bowl of extra noodle and white rice for my toddler and at every pho restaurant, they'd give me so little of it but here, they actually gave me a bigger portion than we were used to. BUT we were again, totally fine with that! This place is great. I highly recommend. I usually take a picture but I was so hungry I couldn't wait to scarf it all down. read more
