Upon entering the trading post to purchase ticket, a gentleman offered me a guided tour, which was to commence in 10 minutes. Though it wasn't in my plan but I eagerly accepted, and we began. Turned out, it became one of the highlight of my trip! Located at above sea The tour started in a small room with public exhibitions providing an introduction to Cabot Yerxa's life, including his discovery of water in the desert with the aid of his Native American friend. As we progressed, I gained a deeper understanding of Cabot's diverse talents as an adventurer, pioneer, and self-made artist, writer, and photographer. The Pueblo house, constructed from entirely recycled materials, showcased his resourcefulness, with each door and window uniquely crafted. Cabot's decision to relocate to Desert Hot Springs was motivated by an offer of 60 acres of land for homesteading. The guided tour provided an intimate perspective, allowing us to step back in time and observe the lives of Cabot and his family. I found myself pondering the type of woman who could complement a man of Cabot's character, and it was revealed that his second wife, whom he met at 60, shared similar interests and assisted him in giving museum tours. in return , he built a room on the 2nd floor for her comfort, it has. Ayala Bar is a jewelry designer based in Israel and each piece is so intricate in design and material, they are pieces of art. I've bought several of her pieces from boutiques and galleries around the world. Terra Gallery has the largest selection I have seen! Including her newest designs. Also the largest collection of UNO de 50 jewelry that is handcrafted in Spain. They make incredibly beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and rings in big, bold, chunky silver, some with vibrant gemstones. Once you own one of these pieces, you will easily recognize the style and want to add more to your collection. The gallery also has interesting art and glass sculptures. I was so enamored by the jewelry that I will have to go back to revisit the other items. Since this was the first shop I visited while in Palm Springs, I selected a charm for my "short list" but then decided I needed it right then and there. It's a celestial piece with a gold star against a sea of dark blue Swarovski crystals, a compass engraved in the back with "find stillness then start." I absolutely love it! Since I have a collection of chains, I just bought the pendant. It's really nice that this gallery gives you that option. Michael, the owner, was extremely knowledgeable about the various artists and pieces. He was available when I needed assistance and also let me browse at my leisure. He made sure he was nearby in case I wanted to try something on or had questions, but in no way did I find this intimidating. It was a wonderful shopping experience and I now have a stunning piece to remind me of my Palm Springs vacation.

I've been a member of this pottery studio for about a year and a half, and I truly can't say enough…read moregood things about it. I first discovered the studio by signing up for a class, and from the very beginning it felt special. When I initially came in to sign up, the studio itself was very open and active, which felt a little overwhelming at first. But almost immediately, a few members greeted me, gave me a tour, and made me feel genuinely welcome. That sense of warmth and community stood out right away. The class format worked perfectly with my schedule as well -- I work during the day, and the afternoon class times made it easy to commit and stay consistent. The talent in this studio is incredible. The members are skilled, generous, and always happy to offer advice, tips, or encouragement as you build your pottery and ceramics skills. It's an environment where learning feels natural and supported. On top of that, the sense of community goes far beyond the wheel -- members regularly bring in homemade baked goods, and some even organize potlucks and gatherings outside of the studio. It truly feels like a creative home, not just a place to take classes. During my time as a member, I experienced some personal hardships and had to travel due to the loss of a family member. I wasn't able to come into the studio for weeks at a time and eventually considered canceling my membership. When I came in to talk with the owner, Deric, I was prepared to take a break. Before I even mentioned canceling, he kindly offered to hold my membership while I was away. That level of understanding and compassion honestly made all the difference and is a big reason I stayed.

Given the effort that the producers of Modernism Week go to for education and the availability of really important mid- century furnishings, it comes up short. We felt it was really more of a selfie- station than a museum. There are several rooms featuring furnishings from the 50's through the 70's... and it was clear that someone had fun curating the looks. But we were in and out in about 20 minutes. There is a brief sign in each room giving a brief statement (mushroom wallpaper was popular, etc). Shops around town are brimming with these furnishings. There is a large room in the back sadly branded as a roller rink (we assume it is for party rentals), that could easily have housed collections of important furniture or displays about architecture and the key players in design. We have seen similar- sized spaces that used video, displays and models to educate. A few items from Magda Gabor's house (lighting fixtures and patio furniture) were of limited interest, and not at all associated with the modernist movement. Just over- the -top sconces. Given the prestige of Modernism Week and the quality of the vendors and lectures... it is misleading to name this a museum. It was worth ten bucks and 20-30 minutes, and maybe more in the future. But only if you have time to kill,

There was a 1969 Jaguar in a Racquet Club room display; a tiki bar that might have been in someone's backyard; a re-recreation of Jayne Mansfield's pink room (including a heart shaped tub); an over the top kitchen with dining table; wallpaper designed by Peter Max; and a beauty salon with a hair dryer that William Randolph Hearst's mistress Marion Davies sat under. If there had been more rooms like the ones described above with more information about the rooms (ie. more about the designers and the cultural roles they played; what inspired them, etc.), then the museum would be a home run in my book. But there were only a few rooms like that. The very friendly gentleman who greeted us in front of the museum said that the museum was 10,000 square feet in size and he was right but I'm guessing about 40% of it was a big, mainly empty event space with a mirrored disco ball and psychedelic floor painting and not much else. Plenty of room for additional displays that was nearly empty. If there are more exhibits then this place would definitely earn 5 stars, especially as you're allowed to sit on the furniture. For now, though, with all the empty space (we took only 30 minutes to visit, if that) and only a few "wow" rooms, just three stars.
