Just ordered from IV deli mart for the first time and it does not make me want to do it again. A friend and I were hungry around 10 PM so we decided to order something small and have it delivered. It got here relatively quickly, but everything else went wrong. They mixed up our receipt with someone else so we ended up with the wrong order. Finally, the other customer came back to swap orders. I'm not sure how they got mixed up considering our order was considerably smaller than theirs. After that, we realized there was no receipt in the bag. Since we were paying with cash, we needed the receipt to check the price. The delivery guy had to call the restaurant to check how much our order was. At this point, our order really should have been comped. It was freezing outside and our food was already cold. To top things off, we finally sit down to eat and notice that one of our chicken tenders had a bite taken out of it. Nice... Needless to say, service is awful here. This place is absolutely amazing. Id choose it over 7-Eleven any day. There food is amazing as well. If you want something for breakfast to carb-out, I'd suggest getting the loaded burrito. Keep in mind that the prices don't include cheese, and cheese costs like another 50 cents or so, but the prices are still completely fair for what you get. read more

For what appears to be such a tiny place, IV Deli Mart really packs it in. Market stuff is in the front of the shop, and the deli portion is in the back, complete with those tantilizing rotating spits of kebab meat. Purchases made: Boysenberry shishah - good selection of shishah and prices were reasonable. The man behind the counter was excellent that giving advice and talking about the shishah. Lamb gyro - same man behind the counter recommended I try the lamb gyro over the falafel. I did want both, but my stomach real estate won't allow. The lamb gyro was substantial and tasty, lots of meat and a good amount of crunchy vegetables. The pita bread is good, but it does start falling apart quickly. Keep that paper and foil wrapper handy for holding everything in place. Meatball sub - acceptable, but slightly underwhelming. In retrospect, lunch buddy and I should have skipped the meatball sub and gotten the falafel I was eyeing up earlier. Red vines - they're red vines. There is no sit-down option at this deli-market, which helps justify the lower prices, and it's easy enough to walk over to the park and sit on the benches. There aren't many places around that serve shawerma and related sandwiches, so this is a gem. And it's great food for being on the go. read more

Let's be honest. By any objective measure of just about any aspect of IV deli mart, it sucks. 1 or 2 stars. Aside from the owners - you'll know who they are, the service is kind of terrible. One of the night managers is especially slovenly and seems rude with the employees. The employees themselves are kind of strange and, if you watch closely, you'll see them do strange things with the food. I watched the big, white guy with the hat eat out of my french fries and one guy in the back never seems to want to wash his hands or change gloves after touching his face or mouth area. A lot of the junk food is bottom of the barrel stuff. Really cheap and really bad for you - you get what you pay for. The food to order is some of the most horrendous and atrocious stuff I've ever purchased. I'm a big guy and can eat a lot, but the reuben sandwich had me panting and curling up with gastric spasms half way through. Meat quality is pretty low - like elementary school cafeteria low, and everything is very high in sodium. Basically, this place will kill you, either right away from food poisoning or slowly with heart disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, whatever. But, despite all of this, I fucking love IV deli! It's the heart and soul of Isla Vista - one of the most shitty, evil and absurd places on the planet. I'm craving dat lamb gyro right now and, despite having way better food options where I currently live, I think I'd much prefer to self-flagellate and warp over to IV deli for some sweet & salty disease in a brown, grease-stained paper bag. read more

These people make good food but they are unbelievably rude, unreasonable, and irresponsible. My friend and I made an order late at night for the 5th time because we used to order from them a lot, and they forgot one of our fries as well as our chicken tenders. When we called, the owner ACCUSED US OF LYING and basically told us that they will not be sending missing orders again. This was really rude, unprofessional and a fail on their part. Oh and their bags are always really soggy and gross. And don't order mozzarella sticks. You pay 5 dollars for 6 tiny pieces with hard cheese. Because of such poor service and massive rudeness, we will not be ordering from these people again. One of the cheapest meals you can get in Isla Vista and you'd never guess based on the quality of food. I had the falafel ($4.50) and a Hansens Cane Sugar Pomegranate soda ($1). The falafel was great! Not the best I've ever had, but it far exceeded my expectations based on its location in the back of a convenience store. My girlfriend and I went and sat at the benches kinda behind the place and just as we were starting to eat, a bird flew overhead and shit on my girlfriends falafel, soda, jeans, and foot. Pros: Wide selection, convenience store stuff, long hours, delivery Cons: NOTHING is healthy, crappy online ordering systems I've been in IV for a while now, and tried every place downtown a few times, but IV Deli Mart has the highest rate of repeat business, simply because it's so ridiculously versatile. IV Deli Mart packs a 7-Eleven-style convenience store and a pan-ethnic grease-hole kitchen in one. Their hours are some of the longest, making them a go-to destination for late nights and lazy mornings alike. Their food defies every genre except "greasy", offering everything from burritos to shawarma to burgers, and literally everything in-between (Buffalo cheese fries burrito? Yep.) Highlights are the Mediterranean stuff, which is IMHO the best of its kind in IV. Their breakfast burritos veer away from the "normal burrito with eggs in it" towards what an LA native would consider a real breakfast burrito, which is nice. The "fat sandwiches", as their name implies, are foot-long stoner-inspired monsters which you'll spend the next week burning off, but they make a good two or three meal buy. The fact that they're also a convenience store is awesome, and it helps with the "Oh @#$% I forgot the [party supplies]" moments, or when you're desperate for basic food staples. The other great thing: They deliver. Because, ya know, this is IV, and at a certain point it's a good move for public safety :) However, I'm only giving them 4 stars due to the absolutely awful online ordering platforms they use -- IVMenus, SBMenus, and the other one on ivdelimart.com are all horribly-designed and prone to forgetting orders, phantom card charges, and other technical glitches. If you're going to pick one, I've had the best luck with SBMenus, but keep an eye on the clock, and don't hesitate to pester them if you think they're taking too long, they average around 35 minutes to deliver to my IV residence, which is reasonable. Also they deliver their convenience store stuff too -- imagine the possibilities. Overall, you can't really go wrong with IV Deli Mart, unless you're on a diet read more

Great food but I had a less than stellar experience there the other day. The food took forever, they forgot to put avocado on my sandwich, and the woman working there, who I believe is the owner, was very curt and rude to not only myself, a paying customer, but to her employees. Once again broke ADA law guy who is younger employee screams at me literally yelling and almost sleeping across the counter at me that I can't bring dogs in there when my dog is clearly demarcated in a bright red vest with triple patches and I've just gone over schooling them less than in the last few weeks about this. It's ridiculous I walked out after a Moments thought of why none of us can support businesses that do this to people. It's insanity. But apparently it's going to become my full-time mission if it doesn't stop because everyone's getting reported to the department of justice takes me endless time I don't have and yet it's my duty to do it for people who can't speak up for themselves the way that I can. IV Deli Mart is one of Isla Vista's best kept secrets. They have a massive variety of food -- there is a sandwich for every occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or hangover Sunday. They also have a great selection of middle eastern dishes, and they absolutely make the best falafel wrap in all of IV. Their chicken tenders are also on point, and have a texture similar to fried chicken. The best thing about IV Deli Mart, particularly for broke students like me, is the pricing. It's incredibly reasonable, $4-$6 on average for a sandwich with fries, which is easily the cheapest deal you'll find in IV. (And they offer some excellent deals if you have campus deals coupons.) It's also great that you can pick up basically any drinks, snacks, or desserts that you want with your meal, since the place doubles as a restaurant and mini-mart. On the downside, they seem to be constantly understaffed in the kitchen, so you'll often have to wait 15-20 minutes on average for your food (even if you are the only person there) and possibly longer if there is a crowd, and there's usually a crowd. But I think it's worth the wait. Last time I was there, the TV was on TNT and The Dark Knight was on, so I just watched that and before I knew it my falafel was done. read more

Aww man where to begin? The spicy chicken shawarmas... the hangover... the creamy pastrami... and dutch crunch bread! Is there any other place in IV that has dutch crunch since Mr. Pickles closed down? You can always get some of the cheaper non specialty sandwiches but whats the fun in that? The turkey on the house roll is huge and well worth the price. But the specialty sandwiches are around 8 or 9 bucks and are absolutely stacked. The hangover should really be the artery clogger and thats because its the fattest sandwich of meat and eggs that can probably ever get. The creamy pastrami has been my one go to sandwich. Its a pastrami sandwich loaded with avocado and cream cheese. You can always call in ahead of time to speed up the ordering process, something I never took advantage enough of... Honestly, IV Deli Mart is not the way to go. I've ordered from here twice, and both times it wasn't a great experience. The second time we ordered, my friend came out with half of the chicken wings and spicy sauce completely spilled into the bag. I then decided to call the place to tell them what happened, and instead of doing good customer service, the man on the phone decided to accuse me of making a mistake and raised his voice. After pointing that out to him, he finally apologized - but never admitted to being wrong for accusing us - and instead of trying to make up for their mistake, they just made the situation worse. This is the place I used to go for almost everything practical (give or take a few things) from blowing trees and good old food when I'm blown or after a work out at the rec cen in dire need of protein intake (i.e. the chicken shawerma). The place is a hole in the wall, but the friendly owners (Sam and forgot the other guy's name) are coo and down. The deli in the back is where all the magic happens. The food used to be really cheap with generous portions and taste amazing; the variety is also abundant with many things to choose from. If I ever have an odd reason to come back to Goleta, this would be one of the place that I would definitely hit up along with Freebirds, State St., campus pt., and one of seven falls hike up on Mission St. read more

Honestly, I don't get the super low reviews. There's a lot of good/pros for IV Deli Mart. They have a wide variety of different foods, they're open 24/7, the food is at least average-good, and much more. I always order delivery from them from several different locations. Whether it's my dorm room, an apartment over the summer, and a different further away apartment this year. The delivery time were always mediocre, and sometimes pretty good. I mean, it really depends on the time you order the food lol. But generally it's not bad, they never messed up my order (and trust me I've ordered delivery from here a lot), and they never got lost on the way or anything. I've also ordered in stores a couple times, and it's not the fastest, but nothing awful. The prices are a slightly high, but overall not too bad compared to other places in IV. The sandwiches and varieties of french fries are great. They delivery obviously a bunch of stuff from their list. But I'd recommend the buffalo chicken cheese fries or whatever fries you want. Curly fries aren't bad. Overall, it's a good place to get delivery from if you're hungry at night or whatever. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to order and wait for the food most of the time, since I could get stuff from other places in IV instead that's better. But it's 3 stars, a-ok. read more

Fantastic sandwiches at a fantastic price. It took me forever to realize that getting sandwiches here is amazing. I like sam's to go, but it's way over priced and not as good as this. Also, eff subway and their five dollar footlongs that don't include a simple turkey sandwich. IV Deli has a really great selection from regular sandwiches (with every topping imaginable available), to ciabattas, to their FANTASTIC chicken shwerma (sorry if I misspelled that) to a sandwich called "The Hangover" which consists of steak and egg. I got medium on my chicken shwerma (on a pita) and I thought I was going to die. It really depends on how the spicy stuff gets spread out... but oh my god.. amazing. What's even better is that it's a little market so you can pick from a huge selection of drinks and snacks to go with your tasty tasty sandwich. Conflict. That's what I feel about this place. While the food is freaking amazing and made on the spot, with extremely savory tastes... there's a ton of cons. The place is overpriced, the cashiers are normally as rude as possible, and it can take forever for them to make the food. That last one isn't as bad though, just because I realize they do make the food from scratch, but it couldn't kill the cashiers to not be as mean as they are. Great drunk food regardless. One of the only places in Isla Vista where you can find asian food and drinks (products) in general. Like calpico, mochi ice cream, other teas and drinks, and such. The buffalo chicken cheese fries are bomb, as well as the asada fries and the cheeseburger fries. It might be weird, but IV Deli Mart is pretty much my favorite place here in Isla Vista. I've ordered their wings on many a drunk night and have enjoyed their wings during 4/20. The best part about them is that they deliver and god knows I hate walking to IV drunk, running into other drunk people, starving and scrambling for food. I've had their wings at every level of hotness. I'd go for mild if you want to actually enjoy the wings. I've tried the very hot ones and it always makes my stomach hurt. But if that's your thing, then definitely go for it. I've also had their sandwiches, which are very huge and generous and delicious. My favorite is probably the Philly cheesesteak something or other with cream cheese and even as I type this my mouth is watering. I also love the fact that not only do they deliver your food, they deliver your other basic needs as well. I ordered ice cream, tooth paste, chips and other crap that they sell in the store. IV Deli is a classic when it comes to getting late night food. They deliver pretty much anything you need (from candies to tp..) even late at night. I like to get their custom "build your own sandwich" with dutch crunch bread, as well as the fat Italian that is delicious! The only thing is that the order system is a little confusing, when they make you order at the normal counter. To put it simply, the food here is amazing. I've tried many of their sandwiches, all of which have been pretty good. The creamy pastrami is something to note about as it is possibly my favorite sandwich there. And they deliver, which is great. One problem with this place though is their service and management. I've gotten incorrect sandwiches a few times and the only thing they can do is replace it if you bring back the sandwich. I think this is ridiculous, esp when one pays for delivery. I used to frequent this place a lot, if only just for a quick Arizona tea. It was only like half a year of living in IV where I actually tried a sandwich. I guess I never really get my orders right , since although everything I had here were good, they weren't anything special. The last thing I ordered was a chicken shawarma on pita with mild hot sauce. I guess next time I'll try a different bread and not be a baby with the sauce, since even though the smell was inviting, it was pretty disappointing. The homies here did hook it up with the meat though, like it was practically falling out when I eating it. My friend hypes up the Hangover sandwich here, as apparently it's "really really good" even if you didn't order it feeling like you never want to drink again. Eight bucks though. IV deli mart is one of those tiny unassuming places in IV that is a surprise you find only after living there for a bit. I initially used to come in for drinks and chips a decent amount since it is a market and they have quite a selection of drinks, but then I decided to try a sandwich from the back and have had a ton of them since. Cold sandwiches at IV deli-mart are decent taste-wise, nothing spectacular. The real attraction of the cold sandwiches are that they are very cheap, and huge. I usually eat half for lunch and half for dinner, it holds up quite well. They put quite a bit of meat on the sandwiches (arguably too much), but they also have a good selection of veggies. Hot sandwiches are where its at. My personal fav is the shawarma (on dutch crunch for an extra $1), with everything and medium hot sauce. The chicken tender is also good as well. Honestly both of these sandwiches are liable to give you food comatose if you eat the whole thing, but you will want to becuase its so damn good. Same as above, in that they are really cheap (~$5-7) for a huge meal. Honestly comparing IV deli and Mr. Pickles is like apples and oranges, yes they both serve sandwiches, but that's about it. There is a world of difference between the flavors of the two, and some people like one, some people like others. The buffalo chicken cheese fries are definitely an IV staple! I don't usually write reviews, but the staff was so nice that I couldn't not write a review. My dumbass tipped the bag of food and spilled a box of fries. Not only did they clean the mess up for me, they made me a brand new box of fries without any hesitation and were super nice about it!
