I was a little worried because I got there late...7:58. They close at 8. The person who took my order assured me they close at 8, meaning the last order is at 8. I was welcome to stay as long as I needed to eat my meal. What an unexpected and KIND gesture!!!! The guys were young but extremely courteous! I ordered a bowl of clam chowder...YUM!!! How can you go to Brophy's and not eat chowder? I also ordered a Baja fish taco and a shrimp taco. I love fish tacos. This one was super moist and crispy on the outside...perfect seasoning and the pickled onions were spot on!! The shrimp taco was a nice surprise. They are grilled (no guilt over extra calories) and good flavor. There is a good combination of savory with a little sweet from the mango salsa. The mangoes were not as ripe as I like, but the salsa had good flavor nonetheless. I especially appreciate that the young guys checked on me and asked about the food and if I needed anything. I visit SB a couple times a year. This is definitely going to be one of my pit stops. Oh... did I mention the nice surprise on my bill? I didn't even realize the perks of taco Tuesday. I ordered the B.L.T.A. to go and it was honestly the worst sandwich I have ever paid for. Not only did it look nothing like the picture, the quality of ingredients was extremely disappointing across the board: - Stale, basic white store bought sandwich bread (think Wonder Bread) - Pre-shredded, store-bought lettuce - Two slices of tomato total -- one per half (and they were completely different sizes) - Less than half of an avocado for the entire sandwich - Plain mayonnaise, not the "Tabasco mayo" advertised - Cheap, fatty bacon that tasted like low-end grocery store brand Did the cook have to stop at the grocery store on their way to work today? On top of that, the ingredients were distributed completely unevenly between the two halves. I literally had to take both halves apart and redistribute everything myself just to make it edible. Nothing about this felt fresh. I also swapped the "house-made chips" for tater tots -- which turned out to be the exact Ore-Ida frozen tots you buy at the grocery store, and even worse... they were undercooked and mushy. The food is good and really hasn't changed since it first opened...just the prices. Everything is fresh and delicious, and it's a great option if you want a casual meal at Camino Real and don't want to go to Los Agaves. I think the breakfast is a weak spot on the menu but lunch and dinner is great. The fish tacos are huge and delicious, if I'm not too hungry I can have one and be full. The clam chowder is the same as Brophy's, flavorful with lots of clams. I really enjoy the OTA burger. The homemade chips and tots are great but the chips are usually a bit stale and I'd say the fries are average -- a little too dry. The sesame salmon salad is actually quite good and is an underrated dish on the menu. They do have beer specials on Monday and Taco Tuesday but only after 3 PM so keep that in mind. Overall, this is one of the better options at Camino Real, especially if you're looking for a bite to eat before or after taking in a movie at the theater. I'll opt for the half tot half fries option. There's a good portion to it so I'm usually really full afterwards. I love how there's the option for cocktail sauce and then also ranch. It's also great how there's lemon wedges included too. There were some extra spices and flavors in there that made it taste even better. I'm always expecting a great meal here. I'll usually online order my food and I'll go and pick it up shortly after. Usually I'll get ketchup and then get some hot sauce too and it's the perfect mix of what I'm looking for. This place says they serve breakfast all day but when we got there the small print on the menu only has about 5 -6 "breakfast" items all day. This is such a good option for getting seafood but not wanting to fight crowds close to the water. I recently visited on a Sunday and it was so nice sitting outside with all of the people watching from the Farmer's Market. Though they do have indoor seating as well. I opted for the Crab Cake Burger and it was delicious. It comes with pickled onions and they were a perfect compliment. The kids in my party devoured the chicken tenders. My friend got the waffle sticks and they were dry, dense, and deep fried. If they had any flavor it would be old fry oil. Wanted to try this place out so finally got the opportunity. The clam chowder had lots of potatoes and bacon and a few pieces of clam. They also give you some bread to eat with the chowder. The crab cake Burger had good flavor but the bread tasted a bit stale, and I feel like the crab cake had a little bit more bread than crab. I also didn't really taste any crab flavor in the crab cakes, but they did have some good flavor for the cupcakes. I do like how they pickled the onions and the tartar sauce had more of a vinegary flavor to it, so I didn't have to add more malt vinegar. Lively throwbacks playing in the background- overall a happy and neat atmosphere. Our waitress was so sweet. She cheerfully greeted us as we came in and helped us get set up on wifi! Fish & chips was delightful. The fish tasted fresh, the batter was light and crispy, and the fries that came with it were very well seasoned. We were going on a tour of UCSB and stopped here for lunch. On the Alley is fast-casual, so you order at the counter and they bring the food to you.We haven't been out much since the pandemic and there was a nice large patio area in which we felt comfortable eating. Since On the Alley is an off-shoot of Brophy Bros, the clam chowder was a solid win, full of clams and came with a side of sourdough bread and bag of oyster crackers. I got a Baja fish and shrimp taco. They were a little pricey at $5.25 each, but were huge. I preferred the fish taco, which came with a giant piece of fried fish. It was a little over-sauced but still good. I might go for the fish and chips next time just to avoid all the sauce. The tacos came with a side of tortilla chips and salsa. On Taco Tuesdays, the tacos are $3 after 3pm. My daughter got the chicken tenders and fries. She raved about the chicken tenders and said it was one of the best she's ever had. We had the most festive experience here for a Sunday lunch! The outdoor patio is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy live music and the farmers market on Sundays. This place has a great atmosphere. The food is delicious! My fiancé and father in law had the fish and chips which they loved. The tartar and cocktail sauces it came with were excellent.
