This place is amazing. They offer materials and kits for diy framing, and do custom framing, as well. I bought an 18" x 18" diy frame kit and yellow matting. I couldnt be happier with the result. The entire thing cost $59. Other frame shops quoted me as much as $200 to frame this with just a plain black frame. I highly recommend this shop, especially if you don't mind doing a little bit of work yourself. read more

I'll admit, I've never really had much need for any professional framing. I almost never purchase pieces that ever needed it and their location down on Powell, I would occasionally hit up for some random art supplies. So, finally I got two pieces that I wanted to get framed. During these corona times, one needs to make an appointment. So I did and I was able to choose from a wide array of mats and frames that perfectly fit the poster and photo that I brought in. They did an incredible job (just look at the photo attached) and the prices were not bad at all. Great communication and speedy turnaround. The frames look good and customer service is excellent. Re the actual frame choices, they have everything from low budget frames to high quality. Lots of choices. In the end, it's not that much more than ordering a custom frame and mat on-line, and the final product is a lot better. And they are local and in a really cool spot. This place is 5 stars in customer service! When you walk in, you feel like you're in a small town's art supply store. Everyone is super happy to help, super happy to accommodate, and totally in tuned with their customers. My favorite art supply store in Portland! Not that this is saying much because I've only been to a few otherss, but shopping here is a true experience. They have every art supply imaginable and more paper products than I've ever seen and love their uniqueness! I bought a bunch of last-minute gifts here and appreciate their selection of random-but-useful products. Also, one of the employees recommended a writing pen and it is already a blessing to my life. My review is specific to my experience w pre-constructed frames, return policy and customer service. Over the last couple months, I purchased 7 preconstructed frames (4 multiple photo slot frames of two different sizes and 3 matching 12"x18" with associated self-construction kits). While the frames were nice (two made w custom wood), they were overpriced, required the purchaser to create their own custom hanging kit (not a bad thing except when combined w the price) and sported an amazingly inflexible return policy (clearly untouched frames could only be returned for store credit). Finally, when one of the custom frames included a pane of glass that broke while trying to complete an install due to - in my opinion from having had no issue with any of 5 other matching panes - manufacturing imperfection), the clerk offered to replace it without even measuring the broken pane I brought in to analyze, a seemingly courteous and professional gesture (and fair given I'm pretty confident it resulted from manufacturing error since I had no issues with any other panes and the fit seemed too large for the slot as compared to the others). Again, the vibe of the offer made it sound like it would be a free replacement. After he completed the replacement install, however, he charged $5. Especially given the 3 5x7 panel frame cost $25 and I conveyed how the first pane broke, quite the shock. But since the pane had already been installed at that point, I had no option but to pay it. Combined with having discovered very competitive looking (and FSC-certified, no less) frames at MUCH cheaper prices at Target for some similar work, I'll make sure to simply go there for my needs in the future. A shame as I prefer to support local businesses even at greater cost and the atmosphere and friendliness of the employee was good. But not at twice the price for same quality and lesser customer service/return policy. read more

I don't buy a lot of art, but I recently pulled the trigger on a huge original piece that needed to be framed. I asked all my designer friends where to take it, and they all (separately) told me to take it here. They said they wouldn't over charge me, and they were the best in the city. Travis was super patient and helpful as I chose a frame for this 39" x 55" monster. He helped me pick the best color and frame type, and answered all of my questions. I love these guys. I've been bringing my prints to them for years, both for my business and my home. They are super helpful, the finished work is always very high quality, and I think that their pricing is very fair. Once I started coming to the I've been Framed Annex for my framing needs, I've never considered going anywhere else. This week they totally blew my mind, though, and now I just have to sing their praises for all to hear. I dropped off a print 2 weeks ago and they told me it would be done in 2 weeks, but then when I called 2 days ago they told me they were super busy and it would be another week. Problem was that the print they were framing for me was the showcase piece for one of the rooms in our home, and our housewarming party is this weekend! When they heard this they told me they'd have it done in 2 days! However, it was done in ONE day. Not only that, but the guy who called me was familiar with Twin Peaks (the print I was having framed is a Tim Doyle Twin Peaks print, and it's going into our half bath with we've made to replicate the Black Lodge in Twin Peaks), and he told me that if I brought them a cherry pie the framing job would be on the house. I was going to bring them something anyway just for pushing the order through so insanely fast, so I picked them up a pie totally expecting to also pay for the framed print. When I arrived to pick it up, though, it turns out he was not joking at all. So now our Black Lodge bathroom is complete, just in time for our housewarming, and all for the price of a cherry pie! I've Been Framed definitely has made me a loyal customer for life, and I hope that every person who reads this goes there and becomes one as well. These guys rule. read more

I just dropped off a print to this rootsy art supply/framing store and will certainly report back about the quality of the end result, however I was very impressed by the framing staff. They were helpful in educating me about all of the different that were available, and some unique things that they do, like pre-made frames that are cheaper, and still looked very nice. I got the feel that the art supply end of things was more towards what they deem as "close-out art supplies," so I liked the sound of that, and was able to find some inventive and inexpensive kits and paints. Overall, it's weird to leave a print or painting that you like somewhere, but I felt that by leaving it at I've Been Framed it was in good hands. read more

I had a very nice experience here today. This location is particularly convenient for me, so I stopped in late in the day to see about a framing project I'd been meaning to do for some time and ON A BUDGET. It was my first visit to IBF and I was really impressed. There truly are a great assortment of ready made frames here though none of them seemed right for my particular artwork. IBF framer Amanda was on duty and she had great ideas and advice for frames, colors, mats and stuff like floating. I started to gravitate toward the idea of custom. She was super generous with her time, staying after technical closing time to write up the order. Not only did I like the custom artistic plan, I LOVED THE PRICE. Really reasonable without compromising the look or materials. I've had framing work done in other local businesses and I KNOW VALUE. Let's hear it not only for IBF, and nothing against the Gents, but for Lady Framers, as there aren't that many of them out there, apparently. Go Amanda! read more

I brought a piece in to have framed last summer and was very pleased with the work and the price. I paid 10% more to get it done that week which was well worth it in my eyes. The staff was very patient with me-I seemed to take forever to decide what I want. Really, Forever. Flash forward a year and I buy an almost identical print. I can't for the life of me remember the name of this place but eventually I end up calling the frame shop that referred me last time and asking them to refer me again. I felt a little silly asking a framer to refer me to one of his competiters but I knew I really liked what they did here the last time and wanted to recreate that. When I brought the piece in this time I decided rather than going through the whole process again I would just ask for the exact same thing I got last time. They had my order on file and told me no problem. I was slightly nervous about them just referencing the order but whatever. Paid 10% to rush it again-apparently I have no grasp on the length of time things actually take-had to pick it up the day of the wedding it was a gift for. Unfortunately the grain of the wood looked completely different than last time. It was a really grainy look, which was cool, but not what I was trying to accomplish with this piece. The guy working told me they discontinued that piece because it was a bit inconsistent-smooth for some pieces and grainy for others. He showed me another piece of the wood and sure enough, it looked just like what I thought I was getting. It's the day of the wedding and I know I'm just not happy paying for something different than what I thought I was getting. I was thrilled to death when the gentleman there offered to reframe it the same day at no charge! He called me a few short hours later and told me the order was ready and it looked perfect! I will make it a point to continue going to his shop for all my framing needs! read more

I needed to get a really weird sized painting framed and had been looking into Groupons for custom framing...both places that offered groupons were still going to cost me over $100 after purchasing said Groupon...so lame. Sorry all my reviews have to talk about Groupon so much but I'm trying to bring deals to the people... So go to I've Been Framed! They told me the project would take 2 weeks and they finished in 10 days, charged me a fraction of the other frame shops, were SO friendly, and did quality quality quality work.
