After shopping around for frames for my artwork with unusual dimensions I came back to Frame Central. They've done beautiful work for me in the past. Ken is extremely personable and has a keen eye. I pulled up my Yelp 20% off coupon and he honored it, no questions. I bought in my kid's 14" x 28" school art with glitter eyes. Ken floated it in a shadow box frame and now it's perfect! My son brought home a 9.5" x 14.5" print of Skipton Castle when he visited there. Ken picked out a mat keying into the warm grey ink, and framed it in a dark warm taupe wooden frame. I had a great experience framing certificates/diplomas for my office. I was a framer's worst nightmare. I came in, knowing nothing, armed with a blurry iPhone picture of a style I liked. Well, the framer I got (I think his name was Mark?) was kind enough to explain the difficulty in replicating iPhone pictures and suggested we design a personalized frame from the bottom up. I'm glad he did. Clearly sensing my ignorance, he explained each layer of the frame and how it contributed to the overall look of the finished product. He told me about modern trends, trends that have gotten tacky, and what's withstood the test of time. His expertise transformed my vague suggestions into a beautiful product. (the best part is they never tried to upsell me) What I'm saying is: you'll have to try REALLY hard to get a bad looking product. These guys share their knowledge and suggestions every step of the way to ensure that you walk away with something you'll love. read more

The best thing about this art framing shop is that they give a discount for do it yourself framing! Frame Central has a "you frame it" option where you clean the glass and put all the pieces together which they have precisely cut. It is easy. I recommended that simply to learn, and they are there to instruct or for questions. I design my own framing. If you need help from them picking the matte and moulding, they do that, included in the price, as do all frame shops. They clearly understand acid-free framing materials, which should be used on anything you are planning on keeping for more than ten years. They are weak on archival museum/conservation framing and reversible mounting, specifically mounting works on paper, including collectable photographic prints. But most work does not need that! It is not standard at Frame Central to seal the back of the work, you might ask about that. They also do not do "closed corners". That is where you have a frame moulding with a pattern, and you want the patterns of each piece to perfectly intertwine in a mirror image at the corners. It requires more precise calculations, trial and error, potentially repainting the assembled frame and more material waste. This is primarily an issue with traditional patterned mouldings, and not an issue with contemporary mouldings. If you are doing your own frame assembly suggest picking up a pair of white art handling gloves at an art store. They keep the finger oils off the artwork, and the glass. I would also say that it is not necessary to use anything but standard glass. Plain glass provides most all of the UV protection you need. Unless of course if the artwork costs more than your house, or you are a museum. In that case, it's great to use museum glass! I have not used it. They offer discount coupons to customers who sign up for it. They may have Yelp coupons from time to time. This, and their NW industrial area Yeon location, is one of only a handful of my go-to spots for framing in Portland. read more

I had a super positive experience with Frame Central. I've been on a recent mission to fill my home's blank walls with art and photos. I know nothing about art or frame costs, so I wanted to find something I could afford. Thankfully Frame Central had a wide range of prices, as well as styles and frame quality to choose from. One of my larger art pieces was 20x30 inches, and the associate was able to find a frame with mat for me in a great price. Only $50! Not bad for a huge frame. Unfortunately when I got home and started putting my larger piece together, the glass completely shattered. It was totally my fault (hmm leaning against the glass was probably not a good idea) and I felt defeated already after just buying the frame. I looked online for glass replacement and even called around some hardware stores, but decided to call back Frame Central and tell them what happened. The folks there were so nice and said they would replace the 30x40 glass for me at no charge because I was a new customer. Thank goodness! I'll be back soon to buy more frames for more art, thanks to their great prices and better service! read more

My husband used this place to frame a large print and when he brought it home they had glued the print on to a foam core. WTF?? I have never had a frame place glue something to a foam core without asking the customer first. The print can not be rolled up and reframed now, and the print is ruined. Moreover this cost nearly $200 and it was simple black frame. read more

Frames. Not my normal topic to Yelp about, not my normal item to shop for. Let's just say I don't know a ton about frames. But I happen to think I do know some about customer service... and what I witnessed today was exceptional customer service. Today, I was in a huge huge bind. I had decided to try and be frugal and ordered some frames online for a work project I had. Well, the frames were delivered today, just in time for my deadline, but apparently not with glass or backing. Oh. Great. Just the frame. My project needed to be done for a Board meeting that we were having this evening... this was a major "situation." I panicked, and not knowing what to do I called Frame Central as I had been referred there. The guy on the phone said to stop in and they could take care of it... so I did! A lifesaver... wow. As soon as I got to the shop, the man I spoke with on the phone started working on the three framed posters I needed. It took him about twenty minutes to complete all of them, and they looked great! He gave me a very good price and just took the weight of "oh crap what am I going to do?" right off my shoulders. Never again am I ordering frames online. Frame Central takes 25% off custom framing right from the start, so their prices are really decent. Again, I don't have a huge need for framing, but if I did I would go to Frame Central. From what I experienced today, I was impressed at very, very thankful. read more

I've been leery of frame shops ever since I had a bad experience with one years ago (hard-sell, outrageous prices, etc.)...so when I needed a poster framed I went to Frame Central on a friend's recommendation, and I was blown away. All the people here are super nice and helpful, and the woman who helped me (Darcy) was outstanding. She really went out of her way to accommodate my budget while still setting me up with a great framing solution. It is not cheap to get things framed (especially when they are irregular sizes, as mine was), but Darcy made it clear that she knows her stuff AND that she cared about my project. She was extremely patient, and took lots of time to go through different alternatives until we arrived at a perfect combination of frame, glass, etc. The only issue I have with this place is the location. John's Landing is a bit out of the way for most people, and don't even TRY turning left onto Macadam from Vermont street (where the parking lot is located) if there's any kind of traffic. Still, it's worth the trip if you need framing (or want to browse their excellent selection of pre-framed prints). Highly recommended!! read more

I first went to the Pearl District location, and was very disappointed. My friend recommended this location, and even though it's a bit out of the way, it's so worth the trip. Their customer service is awesome. I came in with a matted botanical print, and after browsing their selection I found out that this particular size of print had a limited selection. Here's where the magic happened. The guy who helped me, (didn't get his name) said I could re-matte the print to a size of frame that I liked. He helped me pick out a matte, took off the old one, and then even put a backing, wire and felt all for a ridiculously cheap price. He even gave me a discount on a special they hadn't yet started. Wow, I'm bringing all my poorly framed art pieces here. It's not often you get this kind of customer service, with an extra special attention to detail that you dont have to hand over a large chunk of change for. We got a beautiful Grateful Dead poster as a present from neighbors. We love the poster, and really wanted the framing to come out well. After reading a number of positive reviews we took it to this store. The person who helped us was Margaux Meganck, who is an aspiring children's book illustration artist. Margaux suggested a number of things that we would never have thought of, and one of the things she suggested was so outrageously cool that we decided to do it that way as soon as we saw it. I picked up the poster this week and it came out even better than we had hoped. We're really happy that we picked this store and had the good luck to have Margaux be the one who helped us. He was very patient and seemed genuinely excited to be helping me get this cool poster framed. Found out about this place through a groupon deal, which was perfect since I've been looking to custom frame some of my art work. I walked in and Darcy helped me right away. Within minutes, we had a frame and matting color picked out. The whole process was very simple, smooth, and painless. She also gave me a 30% discount on top of my groupon deal. A week later, my custom framing materials came in and she helped assemble everything within 10-15 minutes. The borders of my matted picture weren't 100% perfect, but I'm pleased with the way things turned out overall. Professional, efficient, and helpful. I cannot recommend Frame Central on Macadam too highly. The place is low-key but the staff is very knowledgeable and always comes up with recommendations for a mat or frame or filet (my new framing word) that is perfect for what I want. Best of all, when I don't like a suggestion and say why, they accept it and instead recommend what is perfect for me. And absolutely watch for the sales: great discounts! Parking is even convenient. If you have a photo or a Picasso or that crayon thing your kid drew in pre-school, these folks can make it look just right. Very prompt service too, even when the frame needed to be ordered. A family member recommended Frame Central to my boyfriend and I after we needed to repair a botched frame job by Michaels. Dennis helped us and assured us he could fix the framing and ad a more stable wire to the back for hanging.
