Their quality of the work is amazing! Turnaround time was faster than they quoted. Brought in a 75 yo family heirloom oil painting and it was recommended to reuse the cloth mat that was in good shape-- to save a little money and because it's a unique part of the painting. The final frame job is beautiful. Good eye - was the first sample he pulled out that I went with. Framing in general is expensive these days so this was reasonably priced. I had a unique koi print with odd dimensions that I inherited from my uncle. along with a gorgeous print that I recently acquired. I went in with some thoughts on what I wanted, but not 100% sure. They helped me find 1) a gorgeous simple frame to highlight the koi print without distracting from it; and 2) just the right color for the waterfall print to bring out some of the warm and whimsical color tones. Never had anything professionally framed before, I am one of those guys used to just going to Target and finding a $10 frame that looks the right size. After acquiring a few pieces I wanted done right, I decided to try Luke's out. I was worried about the price, as no price ranges were stated in other reviews I read, and for those wondering, its not cheap - well, not Target cheap, but, as they say "You get what you pay for." The experience I had was 100x better than I expected, and it was worth every penny. Kurt (I hope that is his name) who helped me out, walked me through four pieces with a comfortability in knowledge and expertise that really set my mind at ease. I was given a ton of different price options for every facet, and typically I went with the most expensive, because as they "You get what you pay for." All in all I think the total was around $1200 for all four pieces. Now, some may look at that price a freak a little, I did when looking around at different frame shop quotes. But trust me, when you see the finished product, and its hanging in your house, the quality is more than worth the price. Customer service is terrible. Luke's demeanor is naturally quick, borderline abrasive, and passive aggressive. He blames the customer for his own shortsightedness. Definitely was not patient with novice and/or "smaller" sales. When a customer feels worse and angry (as I certainly was) after the purchase and it's not due to the quality of work, then you've got a customer service problem. Such attitude is more suitable for a food truck or the like, rather than a shop that charges hundreds for people's prized possessions and collectibles. I had intentionally chose to go here in support of a local, independent business but, in retrospect, this is one local, independent business that isn't worth anybody's support. read more

I'm an oncology rn and wanted to have a piece framed for a patient and Luke's frame shop went above and beyond to help me out. They were on a couple week turnaround but made an exception and were able to get the art framed for my patient within a couple days. I've had two prints framed here. For the first I chose a simple black frame and regular glass. It came out nicely, but it was expensive, even for custom framing. I'm willing to pay for good work, so I brought in another piece. The second was a photo I wanted cut down slightly and reframed. Again, it was expensive, but unfortunately the craftsmanship wasn't as good. There's a sliver of white showing at one of the corners. From what I can tell without opening it up, it looks like the photo wasn't cut straight. It's not super obvious and I didn't notice it until I got it home. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take it back and have them correct it as it was a gift. Thankfully, the recipient of this gift didn't seem to notice! Each time I went in, to drop off and to pick up, the guys working there didn't seem all that interested in interacting with customers, like they had better things to do. At the prices Luke charges, I expect perfection and it didn't happen. Couple that with mediocre service, and this is why I found a new framer, who I love!! So, it all worked out in the end, but I wouldn't recommend Luke's. read more

I brought a rather large piece for framing to Luke's. I had some issues with the acrylic glass warping just a bit where it met the frame. Luke came out personally and picked it up from my house and redid the whole piece better than new and then brought it back and rehung it. Kurt, Daniel and Chris were absolutely amazing and patient with us when we brought in 7 items to frame, all of them custom. About 10 feet of a delicate heirloom and a few other pieces we were just wanting to get out of Target frames. This was an expensive purchase, around $1200, and they spent every moment with us discussing color theory in matting and glass options, as well as advice on how to hang and treat the art after. All in all, their pricing is absolutely in line with the rest of Portland, we called 4 other places and received the same quotes, but the customer service, craftsmanship, and knowledge of the staff is impeccable. We've used numerous frame shops all over the city. Luke's is the best, without a doubt. We will only use them going forward. They are extremely creative, provide many great suggestions to chose from and demonstrate excellent taste. Their work is precise and exacting in detail (I freaked when I saw how they taped the frame art up, using reinforcing flat tape on the paper first to place their securing strips to, so the paper would tear - brilliant). Yelp brought me here so I see it protocol to leave feedback. Doing so couldn't be much more of a pleasure. These folks get it. The work is quality, the assistance in frame selection is honorable (and totally fun) It's clear they aren't out to gouge you. The way they have the pricing on a letter scale is really nice. Granted, I stepped up and paid way more than I anticipated but it was me that made the decision to do so by picking out the grander of the tons of available selection. The gentleman that helped me along with who I gathered to be Luke has a great sense of color and I would consider both to be artisans in their selected trade. It's a great laid back environment. I've been collecting art needing framing for years but never did because from my last experience (at a big box) it sucked and I wasn't at all stoked to go thru it again. Really great frame company! We had a commissioned painting get framed for our front hall and we wanted a modern frame. They recommended a really cool modern 'floating' frame that highlights the piece perfectly. When we picked up the frame and brought it home the first time we noticed a small chip on one side. We brought it back no questions asked and they completely rebuilt the entire frame for free! Really amazing service and will definitely use them again. I have been so impressed with the team at Luke's. My first experience was smooth sailing -- I took a print there and had a great experience choosing the frame and matte, and it looks beautiful! The second time, I had a vision for a very bold print, and, while the employee didn't necessarily recommend it, he went with it. Turns out there's a reason I'm not a professional framer! I had an awesome experience at Luke's Frame Shop. I was framing five tintypes as a gift for my partner. My partner is a photographer and has a really good eye for aesthetic so I was a bit nervous at how to help lighten up the tintypes and highlight our family pictures. Luke was amazing! He spent a lot of time going over the matte and frame options and offered his expertise when I wasn't sure what brought out the best light in the portraits. The framed images look absolutely stunning! The matte matches the warm hues in our living room and the tintypes (which tend to be dark and hard to see) look great under the museum quality glass. I had some large frames I haven't used in years and I wanted to have them cut down and made into smaller frames for new artwork. I had such a great experience working with Luke's. I had a fine art canvas print of a wedding photo made for my mother in law and wanted to have it professionally framed. My pro photo brother had recommended Luke's to me which at first made me hesitant, because his recommendations tend to be a little pricier then what I can afford. I went in on Thursday with a print that I hoped to have framed by Christmas, but my expectations weren't high as I was slow to the get-go. The man at Luke's (I wish I knew his name, but pretty sure it wasn't Luke) was SO over the top helpful. I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted, but had a small idea. He pulled out many options to show me and seemed more then happy to do so. We found the perfect frame and to my surprise he let me know that it would be ready the following Wednesday, two days before x-mas!! To my surprise, I got a call on Saturday letting me know that it was ready already! Mike S. went to pick it up and $42 later, we had a BEAUTIFULLY framed and matted piece of art. It came out exactly as I was hoping for a price that was more then affordable for the work done. The saddest part is that I had to give away the piece as a gift. read more

Its been some time ago, but these are the awesome guys who sold me 3 authentic London Bus signs, vintage canvas roll ups that would have marked the upcoming bus stops. As a student, I don't exactly have the monetary resources to get expensive framing jobs done, but because this place is right near my house I decided to get a quote for a small piece that needed a custom job. Not only was the price within my budget, but it was just as much as it would have cost me to get it done at some huge chain. Beautiful. And Luke took great care to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. I ended up buying an Ork poster print from him (those ridiculously trendy Portland neighborhood maps) when I came to pick up my frame (which was done in exactly the amount of time he said it would be) and thought I would try framing it myself. Bad call - I ended up shattering my thrift store frame's glass all over my bed and found myself totally unable to put the taken apart frame back together. Great! So, I called Luke and asked if he could cut me another piece of glass, and he ended up putting the whole thing back together, charging me LESS than the chain store for the glass I needed, and made my new print look amazing. He was friendly, happy to help, and really took an interest in making my art look the best that it possibly could. I won't ever frame anything alone again - and considering it's actually CHEAPER to get it done at Luke's - why would I go anywhere else? read more

I simply will not go anywhere else to have things professionally framed. I've referred more people than I can count to Luke. Luke is wonderfully creative and inspired in helping you not only make the right choices, but keep within your budget as well. If you've ever gone to have something professionally framed you know how expensive things can get. I tend to frame things myself for that reason even though it takes a lot of time and aggravation and never looks exactly the way I want it to. I was under a time crunch getting a photograph framed for a birthday present and in a panic decided to just shell out the money to have it framed. I was so pleasantly surprised by how willing Luke was to work within a budget and still have it coming out looking wonderful. Next time you have something you need framed you really need to go see Luke. He will make it worth your while to spend the money to have him take the project off of your hands. I had a good idea of what I wanted (black frame, thick mat, simple overall) and Luke's helped me find a frame and matting that worked perfectly with my print as well as suggesting some alternatives that I might want to consider, minus any pressure to buy something more expensive that didn't actually meet my needs. The job was done in a week (I think they had to order the mat I chose) and the price was reasonable, especially when compared to what some other frame shops had quoted me. Luke's has won my loyalty! I entrusted them with framing a watercolor painting my mother had done of my dearly departed black cat, Don Zarpas "El Guapo" del Oeste. The chief assistant there helped me pick out off-white matting and went through several black frame options...when I said "That one looks too office-y," he replied, "Well, yeah, it is." We settled on the "Lotus" pattern. The painting was an odd size--just slightly off 8 1/2 x 11"; the whole enchilada came to just over $100, including non-reflective UV-protection glass. I was told my order would take about a week, and the phone call came about four days later that it was ready. Very pleased with friendliness, helpfulness, service, price.
