I'm so frustrated and disappointed by my experience with Dr. Spunde and her office. When I started there late 2018 I was thrilled to find a well-reviewed dentist on yelp who took DeltaCare. (I had just started with DeltaCare through my Kaiser Medicare supplemental plan which includes Dental, I care, and gym membership). In my first appointment, the cleaning, annual exam and x-rays we're done by Dr. Spunde herself -- she was nice and communicative and I was impressed by the new equipment and the professional office building. I was hopeful at that point for a positive long-term relationship with what I thought was going be a great new dentist. However after that, I was told-- even though she herself had said to me that she would personally see me for my subsequent cleanings and annual exams-- that the only dentist available would be her new young associate Dr. Lawrence Wong. I had one acceptable cleaning appointment with him in 2019 but then my second cleaning appointment (which I paid cash for since it wasn't included in DeltaCare's benefits), was upsetting because he nicked the underside of my tongue when he was doing the cleaning. I have no idea how he could've gotten so distracted and caused that small cut, but that was very disturbing and I was hoping Dr. Spunde would agree to doing the next appointment in early 2020 for me (as she had previously told me she would), which would be the annual exam, cleaning and x-ray because I didn't trust Dr. Wong at that point. I requested to the office to personally communicate with Dr. Spunde for scheduling my followup appointment but I was never able to speak with her ... even though her different office managers and receptionists told me they would have her call me. That never happened. For the appointments that were scheduled for 2020, that annual exam and the 3 cleanings were canceled without my being given any timely communications by the staff-- And then I asked if I could go to their Livermore office and finally I was told that they weren't seeing DeltaCare patients in Livermore anymore --only at the Oakland office ... but I believe that they are disingenuously getting rid of DeltaCare completely without being honest about it. They made up some stories to DeltaCare that I wasn't a "good fit" for their office which is highly unfortunate. I was simply asking for a semblance of integrity and honesty in scheduling the appointments that I was waiting for (even after taking a break for months due to the pandemic), but their levels of dishonesty and professional malpractice were seriously disturbing. Even acknowledging the challenges of scheduling during and after the pandemic. I have extensive threads of texts from the staff where I was given misleading or NO information repeatedly for months. TO BE CLEAR: I love getting my teeth cleaned! I love going to the dentist! I've been used to getting three cleanings a year for decades. I was so hopeful about everything working out with this office but I'm so frustrated and disappointed. It's very difficult to find great general dentists who accept DeltaCare -- and so I'm now searching again here in Northern California to find an office that is reliable and honest --and despite the coronavirus challenges --will treat me like any other insurance patient. Too much that is blatantly wrong. Cannot, without mentioning names and specific behaviors of those in the practice who are clumsy and underskilled. Spunde allows her admins to schedule patients with her only to arrive to find that only her associate is present to perform procedures. This associate is an earnest and diligent person, but he lacks the knowledge and skills to properly perform some dental procedures which cost me time and much discomfort. After decades of going to a dentist I loved in San Francisco, i decided to find a dentist in Oakland (where I live) and found Dr. Spunde. Dr. Spunde is a warm, highly competent dentist with a great staff and a convenient location with a parking garage in the same building. At my first consultation, she took her time and did the most thorough assessment that I have ever experienced from a dentist. Her knowledge of oral health issues and how they connect/affect general health issues is broad and she educated me in a kind manner on things I had never considered. For example, how a diet choice might affect blood sugar, efficacy of medications and what to be aware of. She personally did my first cleaning, and explained everything she did and found. She has high expectations of the patient taking responsibility for their home care and doing their part (and she is very clear on what she wants you to do), which is perfect for me. I like to work as an equal respected partner with my doctors, and her approach is perfect. read more

OMG! Where do I start, I really wanted to like this dentist as its located near my office. I didn't even get a chance to come in, I made an appointment 2-months in advance, I just called today to confirm my appointment which is still 4-weeks away and was blown away when Valerie (the office manager) said they didn't have me on their schedule. It doesn't end there, she further stated that she could "help me by putting me on their waiting list for the next cancellation". My schedule does not work like that, who sits around waiting for their dentist to call them for an opening. Her position was that she was doing me a favor by "letting me come in for a cleaning" she reiterated that they get "hundreds upon hundreds of call per day where they have to turn patients down". I don't know what fantasy world she's living in but this is a dentist office not the splash mountain roller coaster at Disney Land. I wanted to provide the dentist an opportunity to correct the situation before posting this review, so asked for a call back. Valerie said "they are busy and don't speak to patients". I am very grateful for Dr. Spunde and her amazing team! I had an emergency case at the end of the week. I called at the office at 8:00 am and Judy quickly helped me to make an appointment on the same day, and at 11:30 am I was in the dentist's chair getting a treatment. I am very grateful to Dr.Spunde for her compassion, high professionalism, and dedication. She's not a woman, she's an angel. Honestly, I've been going to Dr. Spunde for several years now. She's nice, does her work fast but never feels like she's rushing, and she doesn't look for problems that aren't there in order to sell you products or services (this has happened to me at other dentist offices). When I had some serious pain the other day, she called me back and got me in right away. She is as good as it gets. Very highly recommended! read more

Absolutely atrocious customer service. I went in for an appointment on 2/6/2019 and had a painful cleaning. The hygienist said it was my fault so I took it and thought I will do better for the next time. When it was over, I tried to make my next appointment for a Wednesday. The person doing the scheduling said she did not have a Wednesday available but she could schedule a Saturday if I called in to schedule it in a month. I waited for two months and was berated for requesting a Saturday. I was not allowed to speak to explain why I was even requesting a Saturday appointment. The person pulled my dental file and started reading off all of my dental issues and told me I was not in need of an appointment. I asked whom I was speaking with and she stated her name was Valerie. I stated I needed a regular checkup/cleaning in four months then she started arguing with me about how that was not what I had originally requested. I told her I did not want to rehash and fight, I just wanted to make the appointment all while she is yelling aggressively over me. I emailed the office after the phone call was over to make sure the appointment was made. They wrote back stating their office policy states they do not have Saturday appointments outside of treatment when originally, it was their idea to offer a regular appointment on a Saturday to me when I was last there. They also stated they were dropping me as a patient due to my insistence for a Saturday appointment since their policy states they do not see patients on Saturday, which was never my idea and I would have taken any Wednesday (which I also have off). This is impromptu prejudiced "office policy" which they could not provide in writing. I will be filing a discriminatory and unprofessional conduct complaint. No one bothered to call me for my side of the story (they simply took hearsay as fact), there were no apologies for the disrespectful treatment and verbal abuse I was subjected to and they really do not seem to care about their patients. I really did get the impression this whole practice is about money and not dental care; much less the humanity that goes with being a clinical provider. Do not deal with these people. This review is extremely tardy but let me be the first to embarrass myself and say I rarely get the courage to come to the dentist but when I do I only think of Dr. Spunde. I've spent my entire life fearful of the dentist and (I still am) but Dr. Spunde is just top notch amazing and makes you feel safe!! I saw her roughly over a year ago in Dublin for a last minute bad bad tooth extraction. Ofcourse I was nervous after not seeing a dentist for close to 10 years prior. I really appreciate how tough and stern she can be when telling you your mouth health is SO important, but so gentle, I only felt pain from keeping my mouth open lol. She gave me a lot of great information.She is extremely sweet and I believe even after just one visit she cared about me and the wellness of my pearls. I plan on taking better care of my mouth health and I wouldn't want to do that if it weren't for Dr. Spunde amazing nurturing qualities and tough love. read more
