Been here server times and always go with our friends who go there all the time…read more Waiters are nice and service is great. I wonder sometimes if they're nicer cause they know our friends lol. The food is yummy, executed well. We like so many of their sushi rolls! It may be small but they put out good food! Smaller, to me, is very often better.

First let me start with the customer service, it was great, from the door to getting seated to the waiters checking on us & the cooks smiling & the speed & quality of the service was all great. And the prices are very reasonable, they don't open till 5 tho, for dinner basically, weekends can get busy so get there early. The food was very good, I got the Chula Vita Ramen & I'd get it again, very filling & flavorful. The sushi was very fresh & good & filling as well, Abre La Boca Mucho was our fav roll, it can be shared with another person for sure, Viva Chula Vista was a good roll too. Miso soup was ok & no garlic edamame they have lemon butter edamame, if you like lemon & butter flavor you'll like it, it was ok but it lack a bit of flavor for me. My fav item here was the Jalapeño Popper as an appetizer, 8 pieces & man let me tell you, it was mouth watering & on point, it's a must to start with. Overall I good little spot & we come again for sure, keep up the good work Naruto & see you soon :)

Short Review: I love this place, go and try it so you can love it too…read more Long Version: When you walk inside, the restaurant looks like it captures the vibe of one of those tucked-away Kyoto izakayas outside of Nishiki Market. I ordered the Tonkatsu Curry this time. The pork was tender & fried to a delicate crisp, paired beautifully with a dark, glistening curry packed with deep umami and spice. Their sake selection is superb. I tried a seasonal summer sake that provided refreshing contrast to the rich pork. They even offer a tasting flight so you can explore different options before committing to one. If you don't drink, get the daikon radish+ponzu dip, it adds that same perfect, refreshing contrast to the heavy meal. Their menu is tight and focused. They know their specialty and they hone it. I like that; no BS. The service matches the food, always friendly, informative, and knowledgeable about the menu. This place easily serves some of the best tonkatsu in San Diego, and their curry is right up there with it.

It is apparent from the elegant, minimalistic Japanese decor and the menu that authenticity is a priority for the family that owns and operates Ee Nami. I can't speak on that myself, but it did signal to me that the meal I would enjoy here would blow every other katsu meal I've ever tried out of the water. My husband and I chose Ee Nami as our after-work Friday date spot because we heard good things and noticed that we would be able to make it to the restaurant with a nice cushion of time before last call at 9:30. While we did have to put ourselves on the waitlist, it wasn't long at all before we were seated. Our server informed us that this is one of the best strategies to get in without much hassle; put your name on the waitlist around 9, when the reservations have all come and gone. Impressed and overwhelmed by the number of amazing offerings on the menu, we knew that for our first meal there, we should keep it simple. We both ordered Katsu Curry dishes to round out a long week of hard work. It comes in a wide, shallow dish half-filled with rice, the other half filled with ground pork curry, topped with the tonkatsu, and served with a small portion of pickled radish on the side. The server informed us that one of the containers on the table contains tonkatsu sauce (and it's so delicious that I wondered if it's made in-house). I'm known in my circle for disliking pork. However, Ee Nami's tonkatsu is so delicious that it made me realize that I like pork when it's done right. The cutlet was crisp on the outside, juicy, tender, and perfectly seasoned on the inside. The curry is very obviously homemade; no bouillon-related greasiness or generic curry powder flavor to be found. It's thick, savory, and insanely flavorful. I came in so hungry that I'm surprised that even snapped a photo before I absolutely demolished it and almost inhaled the plate along with it! Easily the best tonkatsu curry I've had and it's not even close. Overall, there are many more menu items that I'd like to try. While they have some offerings typically available at other Japanese restaurants like karaage, edamame, and potato salad, they also have more options not typically seen in San Diego like takowasa, shirasu-tofu, gyu nigiri, and ochazuke. I look forward to returning and working my way through the menu!

Located in a small shopping center with a few parking spaces, Tanuki is a great tapas and standard sushi spot. It leans more toward Asian‑fusion tapas with some sushi rolls and a limited selection of nigiri and sashimi. If you're looking for specialty fish, a huge roll list, or omakase, this isn't that kind of sushi place. But if you want a wide selection of sake, fun fusion tapas, and some classic sushi options, this is your spot. I love that they have a small bar and that cozy, true hole‑in‑the‑wall feel. The staff is friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and it's the perfect place to come alone, with a friend, or for a casual date night. The quality is solid, and the service is fast and welcoming. They also have some great sake and green‑tea‑based drinks. I love it here -- definitely a go‑to spot for us.

I am a vegetarian so I usually opt for the avo / cucumber rolls. First thing that came out was the edamame. The edamame tasted old and the beans were soft, definitely did not taste fresh at all. We left most of it on the table. My avocado rolls then came out with black/brown spots on the avocado which looked rancid. I asked for a replacement, which was then sent to me with salmon eggs on the avocado. I am a vegetarian so I could not eat this, but at this point, I did not want to be fussy again. My friend's rolls came out with fish that looked pretty grey and unappetizing. She did not really eat this either and got a pretty bad stomach ache afterward. At this point, our miso soup had to be the hero, but we were told the soups were accidentally given to another table. We didn't want to wait around for the soup, so we paid and left. All of us were hungry after. I definitely would not return to this spot. 2 stars for the servers that were trying their best.

We were seated immediately and were in awe with the offerings the restaurant had for entrees, light bites and drinks. Staff is extremely friendly and polite and gave some great recommendations. We ordered their seasonal yuzu cocktail which was refreshing. I did order it sweeter, but it was not as sweet as one would think. It was still well balanced and perfect for my taste buds! If you order any of their entrees, be prepared for a feast! There was so much food that came with each entree ordered, like salad, miso soup, potato salad, and pickled veggies! All balanced so well with each dish. The yakitori ordered was cooked to perfection, and the pork belly appetizer came out fresh off the grill! Highly recommend coming here for an appetite of any size! They will definitely have what you're looking for!

I've been on a search for the omurice that is cut over rice and prepared in a way where the yolk spreads over the rice after the egg is cut. The service itself is okay. I was checked on one time but wasn't asked if I wanted a refill on water. Overall, an okay experience, I'd like to try other dishes since a friend said this is as authentic as it can get for some dishes.
