Mixed at best -- decent roast beef, weak sides, and a disappointing cookie I stopped into Izenberg's and ordered the open-faced roast beef. The roast beef itself was fresh and not dry, and the white bread was also fresh, which I appreciated. The gravy was bland, but that was easy enough to fix with some salt and a lot of pepper. The mashed potatoes, however, were a major disappointment. They tasted like instant boxed mashed potatoes, and for a plate like this, that really drags the whole meal down. I also bought an oatmeal raisin cookie because they have a baked-goods display and advertise "Baked in Conshy by Julie." I expected something fresh or locally baked. Instead, the cookie was a sealed commercial product from Randa Bakery in Ronkonkoma, NY, with a barcode, nutrition label, and shelf-stable packaging. That felt misleading based on how the baked goods were presented. Unfortunately, the cookie tasted exactly like a dry commercial cookie: bland, dry, and forgettable. Overall, the roast beef was decent, but the sides and dessert made the experience feel cheap and careless. If a place is going to create the impression of fresh/local baked goods, then commercial packaged cookies should be clearly separated and labeled for what they are. read more

Izenberg's is a great option for breakfast and lunch. The interior is cozy and welcoming. Wendy took care of us. We had the meat lover's omelette which is served with toast and the turkey Rachel which is served with fries. Everything was delicious! Server was clearly poorly trained. She said "I will be right with you" multiple times before actually taking our order. When we asked for specialty coffees, she said "you can get that across the street." I then asked for water which she did not bring and when I reminded her acted like I hadn't asked previously. My company often ordered from this place. Honestly not impressed. I always finish my food, but the sandwich I recently ordered from izenbergs I could not even finished. I ordered their Philly cheese chicken steak sandwich with a side of fries. My sandwich is so bland without any seasoning and no mayo, everything is just super dry. Even the fries I got, was completely not seasoned. The most recent time I ordered white fish salad bagel sandwich which is pretty good, but it wasn't outstanding. I think I will have to try their breakfast items in the future, since I don't seem to order the best food here. read more

Stopped in closer to closing time than I'd meant to, and the staff was still willing to seat me and also very friendly and helpful. I had a cup of tomato basil soup and the tofu benedict. The soup was good, but not amazing (still tasty though!). It's just that Couch Tomato is nearby and their tomato basil soup is hard to beat. However, the tofu benny was excellent. The sauce was a bit clumpy looking, but everything tasted great. The English muffin was nicely crisped under the sauce, and the tomato added a nice touch and really boosted the savory flavor of the tofu scramble and sauce. It's hard to do a good vegan version of this dish and most I've tried have been disappointing but this was really delicious. Before coming in, I'd read online that their vegan menu may no longer be on offer, so I called ahead to confirm that it was still available. I was told that it was, and when I arrived, I received a printed physical copy of the vegan menu matching the one on their website. I'm not sure if there was a time it had been discontinued, but for now it seems good to go. I will have to come back and try some of the other vegan options! read more

Told the person behind the counter we we're moving to another table because the one we are at is full of ants! She said " oh, its only the first booth" they knew about the ants but did nothing to get rid of them. We came to Izenberg's because they have a dedicated vegan menu. The three of us ordered the breakfast burrito with home fries (asked them to put the potatoes inside the burritos, which they had never done before, but graciously complied). Big hit. My friends also ordered the buckwheat pancakes with bananas (eaten there), and I got latkes and a Mother Earth wrap to go home. The pancakes were also a big hit. One assumption you can't make is whether they'd have vegan butter for the pancakes and non-dairy milk for the coffee, but they did (oat milk). Our server was friendly, attentive, and efficient. No vegan desserts (can pre-order, though). They had a nice selection of non-vegan sweet things. Talked to the owner, who has vegan daughters and had to figure out what to make for them. This was another of my "Stumbled Upons". Riding about looking for a new breakfast spot we drove by what my diner detecting eyes saw as one I had never tried. As we strode up the ramp to the front door we saw that it was indeed a diner. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw it was called Izenberg's. I had discovered a Jewish diner/deli in Conshy of all places!!!!! Those who know me laugh when I say I must have been Jewish in a past life because I seriously dig Jewish food. My amazement continued when we were seated at a booth and the benches were church pews! ( see my pic) Looking out the window I saw we were only about 50 feet from an Episcopal Church which is undergoing renovation. Could it be? Maybe. This is getting cooler by the minute ! The place is immaculate and well kept. There are bakery cases at the checkout counter full of wonderful items including my all time fav: Jewish Apple Cake. Alas, I didn't order anything ethnic because we fell victim to the $3.99 breakfast deal which was a large portion of 2 eggs, breakfast meat, potatoes and toast. I had the multigrain toast while my companion had the rye. Really nice they have so many toast options. Both of us opted for the bottomless coffee for $1.95 which was refilled multiple times by friendly staff. We ate a really good breakfast like a King and a Queen for $12 for the both of us. Our usual breakfast spots were mobbed and I totally forgot about this place, so glad hubby suggested it. The breakfast menu has something for everyone. I got avocado toast with eggs and bacon on top- the guacamole was a bit too tart- less lime juice would help. Hubby really enjoyed his western omelette and the home fries were seasoned and crispy. I love good Deli. Wanted to give this place a try for a while. Some of the prior reviews put me off. This was not the best first visit. The Matzo Ball soup was served ice cold. The holding pot was not plugged in. Lunch service was just beginning. No one, including the person filling my cup noticed. The cup was very small, the Matzo Ball was the size of a package of crackers. With out the ball in the cup there was probably two oz of bland broth. The corned beef sandwich was good but not great. For $9:95 just a bit more meat would have been appreciated. The slaw was tasty and fresh. I love a good deli pickle with my sandwich, this pickle was not that, this one tasted like Vlasic from a jar. For a quick and simple bite I really like this place. Especially their deli sandwiches and matzo ball soup. This place isn't anything too special for breakfast though. The Belgium waffle was very disappointing. The batter was very strange, dense, and dry. I guess it is their pancake batter but I'm not sure since I haven't had them but it looks similar to their pancakes. Their eggs are decent but aren't the best I've had before. I love this place so much, they are good, authentic, and price friendly. I wasn't a fan of the chicken noodle soup, but that was the only thing I've tried that I wasn't a fan of. The wooden chairs and tables are really nice and cosy and there's a nice little view of Conshy out the window. I got the scrambled eggs with onions and lox, which was so dry I couldn't eat it. Love this place. When you order a bacon egg and cheese on a toasted bagel... the bagel is actually TOASTED so you don't have to put it in the oven when u get home. Service is great when they are allowed to open up again.
