So nice and they will work in the evenings as well--had them come on a Friday night to mount my TV and have some paintings hung into my brick walls and they did an incredible job. I provided them with a list of tasks, including: dimmer wiring hanging lights IKEA blinds floor repair bathroom fixture replacement hanging custom shelves Fixing cabinet doors that had previously been installed incorrectly. Suffice to say it was an assorted list, and they tackled it with ease and at a great price. In fact, I felt that they worked so well and efficiently, that we ended up paying them $100 more than they charged us. I highly recommend them. The missing star from the "Five Star Review": There was a third person with them (not of the J & A duo) and he tended to talk a lot, slowed the process down and seemed a bit absent minded. I needed a carpenter to do some custom woodwork/installation for me, found J&A on Yelp and decided to give them a call. Jose and Molina (? - I think that was his name) came on a Sunday to give me an estimate and we started work the following Thursday. They could've started the same day, but I live in an apartment and was afraid the noise would get my downstairs neighbor complaining. I was a little surprised that Jose sent 2 other workers whom I had never met - neither of them came with Jose initially. I think they underestimated the amount of work that needed to be done because these guys came over without the proper tools (I needed some crown molding to be cut and installed, and they came with handsaws which ended up costing them time and effort). Also, it seemed as if only one guy really did the work and the 2nd guy was just there to help hold things - plus the 2nd guy would constantly leave for cigarette breaks. To their credit, they came on time, were friendly and were very careful and detailed. They couldn't finish the work in a day so Jose called me to say he would personally come the next day to finish up. These guys have good craftsmanship but I would make sure when scheduling (if not doing work that same day) that you get at least one of the same people who showed up at your doorstep initially. read more

Jose was great. Very punctual, flexible and works hard. Left a small mess, but I can clean it up myself. He painted multiple rooms for me, bought supplies and brought them from the hardware store, installed 2 plasma TVs into concrete with rotating arms, etc. Also he installed some closet wood poles so I can put hangers. I would recommend Jose, definitely take care of him (i got him a whole pie since they were here for the day) and also tipped him because he works hard. read more

I have to say. I was very disappointed. I had ripped out a floor to ceiling shelving unit which revealed a sub floor that I had to finish. I hired J&A to put in some flooring and molding in a rather small area. Let's start with the flooring. Not such a great job. For some reason, and I don't know why, cause the boards weren't even touching the wall, the floor boards are buckled in an area. This should not be as there was adequate room. Then, the molding. Did an absolute horrendous job on matching my old molding, and ran out of the stuff to boot. That following weekend, my father and I, who are not carpenters, ran to Home Depot (not even a flooring/molding store) and matched the molding almost perfectly in three pieces rather than his ONE! (ONE piece for molding! Are you kidding me!!!) We then ripped theirs off and did it ourselves and it looks great. Unfortunately, I'm left with a spot on the floor where the wood buckles. We didn't fix that. I would not recommend. read more

Professionals. That's how I describe Jose and Clark. I work as an office manager for a company in SoHo. I was in need of a handyman service to help with some odd jobs around my office. I found Jose and Clark on Yelp, and was so impressed with their work that I asked them to help with some odd jobs at my home. They changed my shower head, hanged pictures and curtain rods, and added a chain link to my apartment for a very reasonable rate. I would recommend these guys to everyone. I have had TVs mounted before in prior apartments, and the quality of the work done by J&A this past weekend in my new apartment was unrivaled. The work was done efficiently with my input required for each TV as to where EXACTLY it would be on the wall. Jose provided visuals and approximations of where the top and bottom would hit in order to make it clear what the final product would look like. The way the wiring was done through the wall was extremely precise and neat. A cover was put over the hole in the wall which I have never had done before. And, Jose left strings attached so I could add more cords through the wall with ease. He also managed to get a cord through the wall for a very large TV - a feat past installers were unable to accomplish. I was able to schedule an appointment day of and never had difficulty reaching Jose. His partner / assistant was also very courteous and pleasant - even asking me if I wanted something to drink when they stepped out for a two minute break while I waited for my TV stand to be brought in by my movers. I would definitely hire J&A again and recommend them to friends - they do really great work. read more

I guess I wrote my other review for J&A prematurely. I would like to give these guys because they were nice and toiled away for hours without stopping. However, I'm noticing little things now. We had tile floor laid, and we see that there are pieces along the edge of the room where there are bare spots either because a) the tile was cut short or b) it was out of the direct line of view so no tile was placed there at all. Also, the patch job that we requested done was not done that well. We had tried to patch the spot ourselves before, and it had not come out well, so we wanted it done right. However, when the men left, we could still see the outlines of the job we had tried to do before, and the surface was visibly uneven. :( They are very nice, though. read more

I called these guys after reading the reviews here on yelp. I needed a few jobs done, including toilets, tub fixtures, and kitchen cabinets. These guys came out for a free estimate and fixed some of the things right then and there! They are very professional and super fast. Price is pretty reasonable. Completely satisfied with their service, will definitely use them again. UPDATE: I hired these guys again to do some work at my mom's house. This time around Jose wasn't there and two other men came. They did a pretty good job at painting a small room. However, they couldn't do any of the small repairs that we needed. So if you really need something fixed, make sure Jose comes in. super service! they arrived on time, gave me a great estimate, went to home depot for supplies, and finished quickly. i had them fix a closet rod which had fallen down, install a shoe cabinet and install the AC. they gave me options as to how i'd like the work done with pros & cons of each method. me like options. they cleaned up too, although jose's assistant was a tad hung-ho in the clean-up dept. and tossed the garbage into something that was not the garbage bin. there was some bickering involved between the two of them during the work, sort of like a married couple who have spent too much time together. hopefully they still share a spark :) read more

I've used Jose for 5 jobs within the past 3 months... I'm going to use him again this week and and month... I have no complaints about Jose.. Always on time,does great work, reasonably priced.. He may not respond right away but it isn't bad at all. I understand he's into his work , I can vouch for that.. If Jose sets a date he's been there on time.. I asked him one day if there was anything that he doesn't do because he does a lot... He's installed lights, a microwave,kitchen cabinets, fixed door moldings, changed locks,installed a thermostat, installed tin sheets for the ceiling in a boiler room.. I see the few complaints but that may be something in the past.. That's not the Jose that i know.. He's passionate about his work and he's focused in what he does.. read more

We have a 15' ceiling and needed a ceiling fan put in. We couldn't mess with the wiring so we had J&A run the wire cross the ceiling and down the wall. They went to the store and bought cord covers that matched the paint - so nice :) Overall, they were quick, kind, thorough, informative and reasonably priced. Jose and Clark did an awesome job installing my TV. This is Jose's business, and he was very diligent about making sure the TV placement was to my liking -- we even had a philosophical discussion about the TV being objectively level versus subjectively level. They also hung some blinds, properly installed my AC and hung a mirror. They did a fantastic job, cleaned up and even helped me carry out the ginormous pile of boxes that had accumulated in my apartment. Moreover, the price was very reasonable. Jose was great to work with!! Very professional, hard-working, does a great job. I needed my 55" Samsung flatscreen TV mounted on a very thin (2"??) cement wall -- my boyfriend and I tried it ourselves before calling and put a giant hole through the wall!! -- and Jose really helped me out. They mounted it just as I asked, very sturdy, leveled, etc. and showed me how to conceal the wires. I'm so glad I had them mount the TV... much more complicated than I had anticipated! While they were there I also had them hang up about 5 wall-hangings (all of our walls are cement -- horrible to drill into) and even mounted my TRX anchor (workout device) on the ceiling!! ...I would definitely have never felt comfortable trying to install that myself! I would highly recommend these guys anytime you need some handiwork -- Jose and his assistant showed up as scheduled, worked quickly, were very diligent and detail oriented -- they even patched some previous holes in the wall with moulding just so it would look better. We called Jose to tile our bathrooms. He gave us a great price and showed up on time each day for the work. He and his partner were extremely friendly and personable, and did an okay job, but were definitely not detail oriented. Firstly, my husband and I had to pick up all of the materials, and this meant several days of running around for odds and ends. Secondly, we are still trying to clean off the grout handprints and footprints left on every surface they touched. Thirdly, when you look closely at the work it is sloppy. Corners are not finished well, lines are not straight, our toilet is put in crooked, and the sink has about an inch of caulk around it that looks as if my five year old daughter caulked it in. I will say that when we called Jose to complain about some of this he came back out free of charge and worked away for about two hours. It is his work ethic that is impressive. His work could be improved. read more

I have had very mixed results with this firm. The first time I used them, Jose came out very quickly and performed great, timely, competitive work. I was so happy that I called him when my dryer vent required some TLC, and again, he did terrific work. Which is why I contacted him this summer to do a small job, sanding and refinishing my windowsills prior to the sale of my condo. I was very surprised at his lack of responsiveness. He texted in response to my voicemail, to seek more information about the requested job, but after that, I heard absolutely nothing, despite subsequent efforts to connect on my part. I was very disappointed, especially given my prior positive experiences. For that reason, when a neighbor asked me if I knew of any good handymen, I was rather hesitant to recommend this firm. read more

I had sheetrocking and moulding, floor tile, ballast , bathroom vanity top installation by J&A. Jose is punctual, honest, flexible. He took me to home depot and helped me by making valid suggestions, picking out material and deliver it home. he cleaned up after himself, tried to save me money in materials by suggesting alternatives. very pleasant and eager to make me happy. I left him in my home while I went to work without any problems, He also finished a brick wall for me that needed a face lift, a big laborous job and the price was unbeliveable. This company irresponsible. They were supposed to arrive at my apartment at 6:00 PM. At 6:05 they called to say they won't arrive until 8:00 - 8:30 because another job ran late. At 9:00 they called again to say they won't arrive at all, and said I should call tomorrow if I'm still interested. i definitely AM NOT still interested. I won't deal with a company that treats their customers this way. I know they got all good reviews, and I question the legitimacy of those reviews. read more

First of all, I had a lot of work done by J&A. The work included installing chair rails, installing attic steps, sheetrock installation, outdoor electrical outlet installation, and finally mounting a 46" LCD TV on the living room wall. Jose and his team exceeded my expectations in all areas. Jose was punctual, reliable and the work was done in a very clean manner. Mounting the TV took a little time because Jose installed it completely leveled and firmly so that the heavy TV would not fall. The most difficult part of the TV installation was finding a way to run the cable wire from outside the house to its final location in the house without damaging the mirrors on the wall or wood floors. Jose came up with a solution that I could not have done better myself. Jose was able to run the cable wire into the house and completely conceal the wire. Also, Jose was not satisfied until I was satisfied. I am extremely happy with my decision to use J&A. Finally, an honest and reliable contractor that returns customer calls and works hard to satisfy his customers. I highly recommend Jose. read more

Jose and his guys came over and did an excellent job on my living room and kitchen floor. They sanded and coated the living room floor and tiled the kitchen beautifully. He got four stars because one of his guys replaced a few tiles in my shower and I felt it could have been done a bit neater, I think this may be just this particular young man and not Jose per se since he did an excellent job on the kitchen and living room floor. He also fixed my doorbell in less than 15 minutes. All in all he did a fine job in just two days, I would use him again for those little jobs I need done around the home. Give them a try! They are quite reasonable and at the end of the job provide you with the receipts so you don't have to guess at what the costs were. read more
