Full-service butcher shop and eatery. You can eat outside at the grill or inside at "The Butchers…read moreTable", or "to go " from the butcher. The short rib sub was absolutely delicious served with Kettle chips. The meat was perfectly cooked and must have fallen off the bone before being put on the roll. The ribeye cheese steak was good with American cheese served with kettle chips. The ribeye was juicy and flavorful. I only wish the rib eye was sliced and not crumbled with more gooey cheese. Forgiveness because the short ribs were insanely good. I opted for a side of coleslaw (dixie style) however just a tad too sweet for my taste. They offered traditional bratwurst and kraut with mustard for Oktoberfest weekend. Definitely a must do in Berlin. They sell beer and wine. I'm coming back for the Reuben, brisket grilled cheese, and pastrami!

Broken glass, ice and wine/beer everywhere. My wife took it in good spirits and we moved tables. The waitress was nice but very awkward the rest of the time. It took a while for our food to come out. In the meantime we ran out of drinks and had requested water multiple times. Nothing. This is a small place and there were 3 other tables. Finally we got drinks and our food showed up. I had the brisket sandwich. Mouthfuls of fat! Gross. The brisket was good but my sandwich was 1/2 fat. My wife's was the same. Cute place. Horrible experience. The food could have been good but you can't serve a sandwich that's 50% fat. Our drinks were comped but that didn't make up for the overall l experience.

A small store at the end of a strip of shops right off the main drag of Maddox Boulevard…read more The name says it all: House of Jerky. You walk in and it's literally wall-to-wall of displays of jerky. Anything you could want - simple dried, marinated, sweet, spicy, whimsical flavor - they have it. Any meat you want - they have it. While it is mostly your standard beef or pork, they also have a section dedicated to "exotics" such as camel or python jerky. They even have some seafood jerky options. I have had meatless jerky (mushroom and/or seitan-based), but I didn't see any such options here. In addition to the jerky, there were a few other snack items like popcorn, nuts, and a small section of insect snacks. Such a singularly-focused store means customers move in and out quick, so there was only one staffer, and she greeted me when I walked in, then just went back to watching some TV show playing on the wall. They usually have two or three items available for sample, which she happily obliged when I requested. Prices are okay for a beach town. Many standard jerky options were around $14 for 4oz package, but some of the less conventional options were either smaller packages and/or higher in price. Watch out; this can add up quick! Overall, if you have a hankering for jerky, you can definitely find it here.

I wasn't anticipating stopping for jerky at a beach town, but here we are! I've been to a few…read morejerky shops in my travels and this place was pretty nice. Very small footprint, but it doesn't need to be huge. They have a lot of exotic meats, some of which I don't think I've ever seen in jerky form before (like python!). They are priced accordingly, though, with rarer options costing more than your typical beef. They do have some good deals though. The TV in the shop (why?) was tuned to Fox News. Look... I don't care where along the political spectrum you find yourself. Can't we turn this stuff off for vacation time? We went to Chincoteague to get AWAY from politics and news and all that jazz! Please just put on the Cooking channel or ESPN or DIY or something benign! You're a jerky shop... not the local political party headquarters. Anyway... We came away with some different kinds of jerky to try, mostly beef and turkey (I love turkey jerky!) and some interesting looking pork rinds (and cracklins!). I might try the deep fried peanuts next time. I've had them before... didn't expect them at a jerky joint... but I'm okay with that too! Overall, fun little shop. Won't take up much of your vacation time to stop on in and bring home something fun to snack on. Maybe you might even need it for the car ride back! Either way, it won't break your budget and it's a neat shop no matter how you look at it.

First off, yeah, they know lots of folks are going to want alcohol, and I think half of the aisle endcaps displayed something alcoholic. While they had a lot of classic and domestic products, they do offer a decent amount of local beer, wine, and pre-mixed cocktails (even though the Untappd app said the local beer I was looking for wasn't sold anywhere in a 25 mile radius, Island Foods had it!). We came the week of Pony Penning, and the store makes a couple dozen cakes (see picture) to celebrate the occasion. The produce aisle is small, but they have enough that you could get a decent variety of fruits and vegetables for your stay. There's a pretty decent selection of meats here. I don't remember seeing too much non-frozen seafood, but I imagine it's hard to compete with the fresh catch with specialty fish markets on the island. I was pleasantly surprised to find several Gardein products, which meant vegetarian Child #1 could have some imitation meats and seafood if he wanted a protein similar to what the rest of his omnivorous family would get. Things are pricey. Inflation's here to stay and it's a touristy beach town. Considering that, it's not too bad. The folks at the register were very friendly. Whatever foodstuffs you're looking for, it's a good bet that Island Foods has it.
