Cash only, and there is an ATM. I like soft sub rolls and that's what they serve, and my wife liked here square bread too. Roast beef was good but I made the mistake of asking for salt and pepper, and the guy put way too much salt, almost making it inedible. The chicken salad had green and jalapeno peppers, which was unexpected but my wife said it was good. The system for ordering seems to be a little haphazard, so save yourself time and go up to the cashier to order. The place was a little lacking for other product selections, but not insufficient, with a reasonable number of chip choices. There were a few signs about the lack of staff, requesting patience. Two people in the store when we arrived. They had called in an order. Order was missing 1 out of 2 sandwiches. We placed our order for two cheesesteak sandwiches, and waited 40 minutes. Several people came and left while we were waiting, some were call ins, some were not. The gentleman behind the counter asked what we were waiting on about 25 minutes into our wait. Another 15 minutes, and still no sandwiches. We decided to leave. The lady behind the counter was rude and said over her shoulder she had no help. There were 4 people behind the counter. I went to JB's and ordered a small tuna sub and I have to say that sub was outstanding! The service was great and they were very friendly and professional. I will definitely be going back every chance I visit Chincoteague Island! I have gotten subs from Steve's II and JB's definitely had them beat by a mile! This is an actual sub/hoagie shop. You can also get wine, beer and other drinks here. Just a note you can take alcohol onto the beach at the park. They have all your lunch meat needs and even offer some sides. The staff was ok. No real pros or cons. Parking area will fit around 5-6 vehicles unless there is a delivery. My advice is to call ahead to see if they are open and we tried this place 2 times before on different trips and they were randomly closed (a delivery driver from a chip company told us on one visit "they aren't open today...I think. I've been here for 30 minutes". They are a way better option then other sub places when open. read more

I wrongly assumed that the reviews written about their lack of Covid precautions would have brought about a change for business purposes (and general safety for their customers) but, alas, NO. No masks (unless you count the ones hanging around their necks or when directly dealing with the paying customer) and NO GLOVES to be seen. The food is good but enjoy it with your eyes wide open. When I vacationed on Chincoteague island, J & B was only a short walk away. When I arrived, the staff was very kind and the selection was enormous. When I got my meal (the roast beef sub) it was massive and tasted very nice. I would recommend this place to anyone on that side of the island so that you can experience the authentic cuisine of Chincoteague. read more

Stay away from this place! The sandwiches may be OK but it is most definitely not OK that 2 of the 3 people making food were not wearing masks. Unless you want to be part of some superspreader event, i wouldn't come here. We frequented J&B 20 years ago, before we moved out of the area. The food was consistently good. We moved back in June 2020 and we're thrilled that they were still around. We called in subs several times over the next couple of months, but decided it was too risky an the virus ramped up. The staff did not wear masks, nor did they require customers to wear a mask. The place was crowded so we would go in to let them know we were there to pick up and then go back outside to minimize exposure. They would not even signal us standing right outside the door when we were ready to check out. read more

My family and I went to this shop yesterday to pick up subs to go. Honestly, it could have been a much better experience and here's why... 1) The entire kitchen staff was not wearing gloves. At all. I've specifically looked for the hands of the staff making the subs, cooking the hot subs, wrapping them up and not one individual was wearing gloves. This is Food safety 101. I watched an individual fix meat, cheese and lettuce placements with her plain hands and all I could think about was Cross-contamination. The pickle barrel in the place did not even have a spot to place the tongs. It just sat in the juice and pickles - leaving whatever germs that was on the hands of the previous person to be soaked with the brine and pickles. I LOVE pickles. The thought of one would be great with the meal but I couldn't bring myself to it. 2) The wait time was ridiculous and it was because everyone seemed to roll into a state of confusion - leaving about 30 people to wait inside and outside of the shop. We waited for 4 subs for about 25-30 minutes. It was midday, so of course that was a factor. But, you could tell that the service was not a well-oiled machine. There was no harmony in the workflow. There was just lots of questions, lost-subs that workers were inquiring about and on top of it all - they only took cash. Y'all, i'm from Charleston - where food and drink service is huge. Maybe my expectations could be high at some points. But I think anyone would feel slightly uncomfortable when witnessing the workers abstaining from simple glove use, as that does contribute to cross-contamination that could lead to more serious issues within the body. I give it two stars because my hot sub did taste good. However, it's not so much a good experience when thinking about how not one person wore gloves and contributed to cross-contamination. Especially when you're camping and food is already limited. Additionally, 3/4 people who ate subs in my family (both hot and cold) noticed their stomach hurting directly after consuming the food. Behind the counter, the food prep guys did not have their masks on. A customer walked into the store without a mask (everyone seemed to know her and her husband), and shopped and walked around. I asked the counter guy if he could say something to her and he said, "What are you going to do?" The food prep team was very unprofessional. When we got home, we put the food in the trash. The Philly cheesesteaks are delicious and the staff is friendly but beware because the Covid/cleanliness is a major issue. This is a cash only business which would be fine if the person handling the cash wasn't also preparing food and unless there was a hidden sink and they washed their hands at warp speed means the person who handled the register went and immediately handled sandwich preparation. It's a shame because we loved out cheesesteaks . Of the 3 people running the place one had a face shield but no mask under it, one had a mask that was too loose and hung under her face and the other had a makeshift bandanna. Even without Covid I don't want someone handling cash then directly touching our food. Unfortunately we most likely won't go back. If you are looking for something other than seafood this is the place. They have good subs and sandwiches as well as other munchies. I got the Italian sub and it was huge. My family got a variety of different foods, all not too bad. I still think my sub was the best. The place can get packed during the busy lunch rush. One other thing, this place is cash only. This place was cool. They had all different chips, popcorn, candy, sandwiches-which were great by the way- and the cheeseburger was delicious. it seemed to be a good local spot. They had tee-shirts and sweatshirts, and little game called quarter dunk. You drop a quarter into a glass and if it landed on this red post in the center, you got a free tee-shirt or a big sub. Down here for a weekend getaway. Read some reviews about J&B so we needed to try it. I had the chicken salad. Very good. Not too much mayo, nice juicy chicken and tasted fresh. My pop had their Philly Cheesesteak. I had a piece and wow was it good. Did not think that a Philly Cheesesteak would be that good down here but it was. Their potato salad was good and the shrimp salad was different but still good. This is a cash only place so bring the cash and enjoy! read more
